Our legs felt like a fried plantain after some hours of movement, it was a roller- coaster drive but we pulled ourselves. We were heading towards Tamara town, a place decorated with high mountains. We were aware of every movement because our thighs felt tendered with a sensation of pains. We pushed on towards the final lane of goza. In front of us was a monster mountain. Our eyes grows wide and took a deep breath, not knowing there was a deadly hole right so close. " wetin be that?" I asked severely. Our jeep was a victim of the deadly hole. It was a bizarre feelings, other cars had gone further while we were still behind. " this driver sef, you no see the hole?" Shola quarried the driver. He was speechless, he was amazed about the giant mountain, just like us. " Bobo bo agbada re ka gbe motor yi( off your agbada let's pull out this jeep)" shola uttered. We used all our strength to pull out the jeep, but no ways we all ended up exhausted. Only God knows how my step father found out we got problems because no one called him. We saw a silver pilot jeep approaching us. " is that not your step father?" Umar asked my brother. " Time is against us, you all know that we have to get there before 12pm" my step father said. He assisted us in pulling out the jeep with his two friends which we succeeded. " is it that they are much stronger than us? I asked myself. " it is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves". We all looked at each other and after rounds of argument, we moved on. |

It appears like a glowing dream, or should I call it a frivolous nightmare? But I fully know is that we all ended at the same spot. A wailing sounds of jubilation that proliferate the whole street. Whistles above whistles of the birds , singing love songs that caress the heart. Hmm! The day has come, exactly what the world say, decorating the whole place with beautiful smiles. Priceless! I have never seen smiles so cooperative and adhere all my life. " happiness is a perfume, you must pour it on yourself for others to appreciate it". "Egbe omi iresi kana ooo ( put rice on fire)" the sharp smartly voice of the groom's mother got the attention of the women. She was on a buba dress chanting with an expression of joy. " egbe apo elubo jade oooo ( bring out the bag of elubo)" " haaa omi ti o' ooo( the water is boiled)" " Isu iyan nko?( where are the yams for pounding?)" " haaa awon omo yi, won ti da ewedu nu' ooo( see this children, they've poured away the vegetable soup)" " jowo ban ra akara nita kin fi mu ogi ( please buy me akara to favour my pap)" Hmm, voices of the women, ranging from one point to another. " hahahaha funny wasn't it?" That was how I laughed vehemently when I stood beside the gate watching a nollywood scene. It never disturbed me, all I only wanted was to feed my hungry tommy which I eventually did. Hmm! March 31st, 1999 was a blissful day to Adams family, a day of love and obscurity. Noble men and promising young men were present at the groom's apartment preparing for the five hours journey to Lorelo town in kobiko state. Murmurs from different angles amidst the men, only God heard their interactions but as for me, I took the next direction. Babagida, that's the groom's name was all smiles, lifting his Agbara repeatedly . " oko iyawo, haba, this your abgada go tear ooo" Umar his best friend utter as we all boasted to laughter. " wetin, na my day be dis, if the agbada tear, I go wear another one" Babajide responded amusingly. " haa! Pele baba Olowo" shola the groom's closest cousin teased. " The only limit of our realization of tomorrow will be our doubt of today" Hmm! Some men were present while some were scared to travel to the violated city of kobiko. Out of those who were present, some came with love while some with aching heart. " courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than ones fear". Adams family is a faithful one and I belong there. A lot of things has happened in our lives, some we overcome, some we let go, but there is one certainty to all we bloods and that's FORGETFULNESS . Huch! Mad of me, I didn't introduce myself... Anyways... I'm olawale by name, a kid- brother to the groom. I love my brother so much because he's an epitome of civility just like me, I got the same attribute too. How I wished my father was alive to witness that day, a great man of his days. Hmm! Our uncles turned their backs at us and were not even present at the wedding. Ooooh God is Almighty that he sent us a gift of a step father who supported us with good heart. My mother like a man, I searched through the dictionary but couldn't find a word to qualify her, she is just too much. Hmm! My late father ones says, ' A set of white teeth does not indicate a pure heart". " E gbodo bu ninu awon eran yen ooo ( no one should take from those meat)" my mother exclaimed. My aunties are an embodiment of hypocrisy. It pains me so much that they are the evils of backstabbers, jealous of our progress. " A ripe fruit will not hang forever on a tree branch". We all set to leave for kobiko state at exactly 7:30am, a five hours journey to Lorelo town. We took positions and drove off. |

Huch! Its pathetic that I lost most of my works and gotta start all over again....well...thank God I haven't gone too far with dis one. Hmm! If the fly sitting on top of a palm wine calabash says it is drunk, what will the fly inside the calabash say? Only Time Will Tell....... |

" who are you talking to?" my mum asked...." hmmm,...... its Mubarak mum, you remember him?"........." yes I do son"......... for my mum to come to my room at 11:22pm, I knew there is a big issue she wants us to discuss about. " son, do you truly want to sacrifice your dreams for law?.......don't tell me what you say to your father down there is real, you are kidding right son?" my mum utter anxiously. " mum, honestly I'm confused myself......... I don't even know what to do. mum, I want you to cry no more, that's why I made that decision." I said sobbing..."son, I know that's not what you want, I can see it in your eyes, its obvious..... don't worry about me, I'll be okay. son, this is a beautiful dream you have to fulfill... I know you love your dad, even though is acting poorly towards you...you will apply for law next year." my mum spoke out. " honestly mum, I don't like law.......I prefer to study mass communication or theatre art" i said boldly......" oooh my God.....why didn't you tell me all this while, your dad will be totally mad at you if he hears this....he is desperate for you to be a lawyer because that was your grandparent wish. he had promise them that one of his children will be a lawyer"my mum explained. I was emotionally weak. no wonder that my dad was so desperate...." well, mum......since he says one of his children.... my sister should go for law instead. it doesn't have to be me" I said....." your dad has already choosing medicine for your sister".....I didn't even know if I should laugh or scream.... my dad is a big old folk dude. why will he make career choice for his children......." mum I will rather commit suicide than to be forced to study law" I said. " The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness." not too long that my mum started crying like an infant......." mum I don't like this, what do you want me to do?" I asked sobbing....." son, I'm only worried about you....promise me you will not give up on your dreams" my mum is a precious one, I never wanted her to feel sad even for a second......." I promise you mum,I will never give up even with my last breath." she told me to invite my friends over the next day, since my dad has ordered me not to leave home." I will support you with every power I have" my mum last statement was just enough for me to have a beautiful sleep. |

sleep will not come, no matter how hard I tried, I still end up seating . " how will I sleep when the mansion I'm building is about to collapse." different taught ranging through my innocent heart, wailing strange sounds into my ears, pulling me hard to talk to someone. " you cannot fall out of love. once you learn to love that special someone,it takes over you and it will never leave you. true love is everlasting." that was how I called the love of my life " the secretary" at 10:15pm. when you look it at the surface, falling in love with a lady older than I is hilarious, but looking at it deeply, age is not an hindrance. " hello....sorry for disturbing you at this time of the night. there is something I urgently want to tell you" I said ......." oooooh James, I'm exhausted....... I need to go back to sleep, let's leave it till tomorrow when we meet in the chamber". " ooh........I'm not coming anymore" I said " why......any problem?" she asked curiously. I brief her what happened just only for her to allow me say my mind. as I was about to reveal to her my heartily love, my mum walks in, and hurriedly, I cut the line. |
That same night, things get more complicated when S.A.N Al-amin came in. he was at the door hearing every bit of our words. we couldn't believe it. S.A.N Al-amin went straight to the point. he said he came to confirm if I'm home. he was veracious, telling my father to allow me do what I want." your son is a good boy, the first day you brought him to me, I knew he never liked law. there is something different in his mind. let him go for the music competition, by next year he will apply for law. I will personally work towards his admission. believe me, this is what is good for your son". he explained. This time, there was silence. I taught my father has already calm with it. but it went other ways. " who are you to tell me what to do with my son. are you my father or what?................law is what I want for my son and so shall it be........and don't even expect him in your chamber tomorrow and ever....get out from my house" my dad vociferate. " The key to will power is want power. people who want something bad enough can usually find the will power to achieve." I couldn't believe my eyes, my dad chased his best friend out of his house. " is like my dad is getting mad, we really need to take him to psychiatric hospital" I said within. my dreams has been hampered and now my love life is about to be wrecked by the lion. I went back to my room with aching heart. it was a night of complications, a night of tears, night of vociferation, night of fear, and a night, a period I always pray to avoid. |

" send a boy where he wants to go to and you will see his best pace". I peeped through the window, trying to figure out what it was. " its mum and dad again". I looked everywhere, trying to do something. " I need help, who should I call" as I was thinking of what to do, my little sister rushed in to my room without even knocking. " hey James, you are here seated while there is commotion in the sitting room, you better do something, besides, you are cause of it". I didn't argue with her because I knew I'm truly the cause. the noise kept getting heavier and stronger. " he cannot leave school for music, don't you get it" my dad clamored. " oooh don't you think that its better to allow our son to do what he loves? you are not doing any good to him" my mum exclaimed....." doing good. I'm not doing any good to him you said?.......you are the one who is not doing good here....what kind of mother are you?....you want our son to neglect education for music......oooh give me a break" my dad vociferate. " I didn't mean that honey, all I'm saying is to allow him for the music competition. education won't run" " never stand begging for something that you have the power to earn". After inhaling different insult from my sister, I quickly rushed down to plead with my parent. " please mum,dad......stop this argument. you are disturbing the neighbours. this is the second time you both are having argument. peace, love, and unity has been sent packing. we use to be a proud happy family. please let's give peace, love, unity another room." I pleaded sobbing........" the fact here is that your mother refused to accept the truth" my dad utters..... " what truth eeeh eeeeh" my mum responded swinging and clapping. There was no other way to stop the argument than to accept the view of my dad, which I did. " the toughest part of walking up the ladder is fighting through the crowd at the bottom." that was only what I needed to do to have and maintain silence in my home. |
