I may not b a wordsmith,
i may not make a music beat,
i may not on the alter sit,
or have the shiniest white teeth.

She may not ring the church bell,
she may not b d finest girl,
she may not b a good sell
or b d model for my new jell.

But love is wild and blind,
twistin two bodies, heart and mind,
of different nature, type and kind,
makin dem realize the treasure they'd find

Writer's block

I know am meant to update but the truth be told am just there.
Between Writing a novella, researching for ideas, and actually pen'ing' them down it takes alot of time and effort.

Lets not talk about house chores, going to the market, running errands, visiting relations etc

I give kudos to all writers out there,e no easy o,my thanks to woju who is helping me not to make this thread dull and for everyone who have in a way commented, criticised, updated poems, they made me Stronger and better God bless.smiley

Harlos have been missing thou,I guess its his fone again.
Next year, may the Lord grant me Wisdom and knowledge to continue, you will be in for a surprise.

Please do drop ideas about anything you will love and want to see in a poem, make your own poems post them.Rome wasn't built in a day who knows the next Soyinka might be you.

Happy new year in advance... :*

Well, I'd love to see a poem about pregnancy, circumcision, united nation (country), tribalism, travelling, sickness, death, success, disability (physically challenged), introverts, marriage, education, pride, etc..

The others still in process.

Thanks for the ideas.

Drumming fills the air
Dance steps I can hear
The beads around my waist delights me
It would soon be my turn
After all the hardwork
I had put into learning this dance
I deserve all the applause I get
The king smiled at me
The smile was only for me
My heart soar
Why wouldnt it? Am to be his bride
All was ready till the elders coughed and asked
Has she been circumcised?

My smile turned sour
Everyone knew my people does not circumcise their children
Why had they bought it up?
I was told the only way I could get married was to be circumcised.

Tears filled my eyes
Was fate to repeat itself
My elder sister had gotten married
Without being circumcised
During child birth she found it
difficult to give birth
It was said it was because
She wasn't circumcised
That she lost her baby

Because of Fear and Love
She went ahead to do it
All pleas and warning
She threw away

It was successful
They said, she was now a woman
I wasn't allowed to see her
And when I did
It was to watch as they buried her

She did it late
If she had done it earlier
This would never had happened
The old women said and agreed
Refusing to admit to themselves
The truth which stares them in the face

What would you do if you were in my shoes?
A proposal from a King;
A man who loves me

Who knows, when am Queen
I might change the way things are
But am I willingly to take the risk?

Life and Death all in the flash of a blade

Your poem has show the indelible ox of denial from being among the dynast. And equally explain the girl child right, it has contents but I think this message will be fully pass if not in poetry. Thou the poem follow a pattern with a weak poetry life, but all the same it shows exacerbation of denying female circumcition.
Nice one. Kudos to you..

PASSION UNFULFILLED
My gossomar dreams are cast in glass
As I ford my night in dark
Fearful, lest my fantasies shatter.
My hopes are in flamed
Yet a fear.. lest some tempest put out my flame
I wait for a lonely yes
To turn on the spring of joy
In a culmination of my dream
In the ectasy of your embrace
It's all I wish
I have my moon over my sky
Where dense dark clouds also hover
I wish this moon is never overcast
A searing loneliness
A pacing heart
And not a moments peace
Make up a wonderful story of mine
I've only a restless yearning
For a passion unfulfilled.

Time

What an omen is time
A creature in what other creature define
A bird of a million feather
In the wing of time we all stand
Our elbowroom is in time
And own valor in it
I pine in the value of time
For daunting people of today
Riding this flying horse
Without brace and caution
Forgotten, a stitch in time saves nine
For every seconds come but once
For every cast shadow is a fall in time
Behold dear procrastinator
For time will never be enough
Until your death time will stand still

When leaders of yesterday are still leading today

Then today by all definitions still remain as
yesterday

So,Logically tomorrow may never come, since
today is not here yet

And they call us leaders of tomorrow

If a serving Governor is 80years

Then I think he has not gathered enough money
for his burial yet

By leaders of tomorrow they refer to posterity

Those who are not yet born whose supposed
parents have not attained puberty

What else do we need apart from proper
preparation and agility

I once heard if someone is not adding to your
value then indirectly deduct from it,

Maybe for once they have failed to notice they
have left behind not one facility

Oh! They expect nothing from it so instead of
building a nation they'll rather break it,

They pet the monster with big smile and let the
angels starve.

Albeit For the sake of posterity they fight
corruption with a blunt edged sword.

So when posterity finally arrives they will turn
speechless with no word

Or get irritated with no urge

How funny and magical the moment was
between Moses,Aaron, the wizards and their
staffs.

I hope they know that story didn't end with a
happy ever after.

"I'm still here with you" he mumbled

"okay sir, this is posterity saying what do you have to offer?"

I still can't explain why I wrote this
