Some people are naturally stupid. Instead of you to do your research well, you are saying their money no good. A country earning equivalent $16/ hour minimum wages and someone checking about their currency conversion rate.
If it’s by currency exchange rate, people that traveled to Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain would be the richest.
Op if you can find your way there legally, Denmark is one of the best place to live in Europe. |

You guys should leave people alone and let them invest in peace. Stop making people panic and Stop worrying of uncertainty. Not everyone will diversify or follow your mode of investing. Every damn thing is risky.
The real estate risks: tenant defaulting rent, troublesome tenants, fire accident burning the whole building to scratch, (Nigeria insurance won’t pay full damages) vacant flats, land revoking and more land problems too.
Investment in goods and services: no customers patronizing , goods expiring, accidents, theft.
Stock risks: global Stock crashes, company making loss.
Euro bonds: anything can happen to dollar too, example WAR can crash dollar too or naira gaining and inability of government to pay back in $$ or $$ unavailability.
We are all living in uncertainty.
Diversity is good but not everyone will do that. People are scared of losing their hard earned money and some are even scared to buy $$ as anything could go wrong with their money in the process or they could fall into fraudster.
You guys should stop preaching every minutes like people that invested all their fund in FGN bond committed a crime and as if Nigeria or naira would collapse tomorrow. |

You are doing a very good job here but all these things are expected.
You might be the OP of the thread but as soon as you created the thread it’s not about you alone anymore , Anyone can contribute and share their opinion/experience so far it’s not violating the forum rules.
That’s Nairaland for you. You must be saying something very interesting to have gone this far because many OP don’t make it this far. |

claremont: Excellent and refreshing thread here.
In my opinion, I think most people in the diaspora have a misconception on what the definition of ''home'' is. My ''home'' isn't where I was born and raised (Nigeria), but rather, it is where I can live a good life, raise a family and have peace of mind with the knowledge that every penny of tax I pay is being used for what I pay it for. Nigeria is where I was born and raised, the UK is my adopted ''home'' and where I would be buried.
A ''home'' shouldn't necessarily be the country of your birth, it should be the place where you and your family are currently comfortable and living a good life. We live in a global village. I'm Nigerian by birth, British by passport, Kenyan by marriage.
On a side note, this thread shouldn't be moved to front page. It will get invaded by dodgy characters from politics section etc. You said nothing but the truth. No matter the passport, study permit and permanent resident, deep down, you are still a foreigner in another man’s country. Each time I enter Naija I feel the atmosphere differently like a real home. Yes its dirty, no light, bad roads, no security but always remind me of my root and where I come from. Those Akata in America are still pained for not knowing their roots, some came all the way down to other African countries tracing their roots. I curse our leaders for making us living as second class citizen in other countries in the name of greener pastures each time I visit home. Why would you put all your investments in foreign country, example was the man that violated law ignorantly and got deported. Yes, he got what he deserved but that’s a remainder for us that this isn’t home, anything can happen, law can be changed. Be wise invest home. As soon as I clock a certain age, I’m moving back home and yes real HOME. Everyone to his own opinion. |

noobs123: The truth is you can’t compare Europe with America not even Norway. Things are just very easier in America, chances for a black man succeeding in Europe is low compared to America.
It’s easier to save more in America than Western Europe, things are just fucing expensive compare to America. Small house with high rent, small car with tax, high car insurance and high cost of gas.
You are more welcome in America than Europe and then we have the major problem which is language.
No matter where you live in Europe, they will first look you as an African refugee before seeing you as student. It’s not common for Europeans to start a conversation with a black man, it happened many times in America.
Europe is good if you are lazy, like quiet life and not aspiring of living large. America is good if you want to earn more, live bigger and have hope.
I rate as follows .
1. Nigeria if you are rich or have a good stable high income. Things are very very cheap (No where is sweeter than Naija if you are rich or living above average) The law is more relaxed for rich people which is opposite in most western countries.
2. USA
3. Australia ( yes they earn more than America but America got everything happening ( shopping, social events, entertainment and proximity.
4. Canada.
5. New Zealand
6. Europe.
I have lived in both continents( Europe and America) The only thing scary about America is their stupid gun law) |

unite4real: Let me repost my previous response on this below.
It is usually very tricky with FGN bonds. One rule of thumb is, always keep your eyes on the yield to maturity. For example, a bond could have a coupon rate of 15% and you are told that the yield is 10%. If u don't want to mess up with your head, just look at that 10% as your annual interest on your capital. Although you will be earning the 15% but on a lowered principal. For example, if you want to invest 8M on a bond paying 15% coupon and the yield is 10%; you will buy that bond with more than 8M depending on the year to maturity. Let's say you got the 8M bond at 10M, your coupon payments every 6 months will be 15% of 8M and your principal at maturity is 8M and not 10M. At the end of the day, if u factor in your initial 10M put in the bond, you will realize your interest is actually 10%. So if u want a bond, keep an eye on the yield unless you are getting it in the primary market and it's a new bond issue.
Your bank or discount house should help you. With banks, always patronize the headquarters or main branch Inna state or region so u can easily meet people with the knowledge G |
