SCORES of supporters of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State stormed the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt on Wednesday in protest of an alleged imposition of candidates on the people ahead of the May 23, 2015 council elections.
The protesters, who were mostly from Obio/Akpor and Ahoada West Local Government Areas, claimed that some top members of the APC in the state were not interested in holding primaries.
Displaying placards and chanting war songs, the protesters blocked the main gate into the state party secretariat located along Forces avenue.
Some of the placards read, ‘Primary election must hold in Ahoada West’, ‘Obio/Akpor says no to adoption of candidate’, ‘Ahoada West election materials were hijacked’, ‘There was no primary election in Obio/Akpor’, and ‘Do not impose any candidate on us’.
Security operatives, however, had a hectic time while trying to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order at the state party secretariat.
One of the protesters from Ahoada West, who simply identified himself as Phillip, lamented that those that are being imposed on them are not popular, adding that democracy would be rubbished should candidates emerge at the grassroots without the conduct of primaries for the election

I tried restarting my htc vivid but when it got to the HTC logo it hanged. I
tried doing a hard reset but it gets to a point and show a red triangle with
exclamation mark.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, has joined the
race to become the President of the country in 2015 on the platform of the All
Progressives Congress, which he defected to two weeks ago.
Media aides of the Speaker, who joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic
Party, confirmed that “friends and associates” bought the presidential
nomination form of the party for Tambuwal, who became the Speaker of the
House in 2011.
Tambuwal’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Imam Imam, told our correspondent
on the telephone on Thursday, “Earlier today, some friends and associates of the
Speaker notified him that they have bought presidential nomination forms for
him.”
Our correspondent learnt that members of the APC in the House opted to pay
for the nomination form for the Speaker to contest the 2015 presidential poll.
The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that the members reportedly reached out to
one another soon after it turned out that Tambuwal showed interest in the
presidential race early this week.
Attempts by the APC to pick a presidential candidate by consensus appeared to
have failed after talks between the stakeholders reportedly collapsed by
Wednesday.
The contest was initially between former Head of State, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu
Buhari (retd.); former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Kano State Governor,
Rabiu Kwankwaso.
But, The PUNCH learnt that the entry of Tambuwal into the race had further
compounded the situation in the APC.
Investigations showed that the lawmakers had reasoned that Tambuwal was a
“poor speaker”, who would not be able to afford the N27m the APC fixed as
the cost of the form.

I attended the rally in port harcourt. Governor Amaechi never made such statement as alleged. But even if Governor Amaechi made such statement, it could be at another gathering of which is Amaechi not far from the truth. We all see and hear what is happening everyday in rivers state and Nigeria. Just that GEJ was very angry after seeing such a huge crowd gathering for Amaechi and APC in rivers state after the likes of Nyesom Wike have continuously told GEJ that APC and Amaechi are not on ground that they only exist on billboards. I believe that this is the reason for the recent threat by the president.

The former Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, on Monday,
challenged the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to a debate on
corruption.
Wike, who accused Amaechi of being corrupt, vowed that the governor must
account for any fraudulent act while in government.
The ex-minister, who was the chief of staff to Amaechi in the past, vowed to
wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Speaking when he visited the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the
state at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, Wike explained that he had
what it would take to unseat the APC in the forthcoming election.
He said, “I’ve come to formally inform you, members of the State Working
Committee and leaders of our great party of my ambition to vie for the 2015
governorship of our state on the platform of the PDP.
“As you have heard, it was for this purpose I resigned as a member of the
Federal Executive Council and I believe that without you, no success can be
made.
“I also have come to ask for permission to visit each of the 23 local
government areas of the State with my team. I had to inform you before I
proceed on such visit to ensure that we achieve our dream.”
He, however, warned against election of delegates that would betray the party
at the forthcoming congresses.
Wike cautioned members of the PDP to be vigilant and resist being lured by the
leaders of the opposition party in the state.
He pledged to serve as campaign manager to any aspirant, who emerged as
governorship candidate at the party primaries, expressing optimism that the
primary will be transparent.
In his remark, the State Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Felix Obuah, stated that the
party would not impose candidates on anybody.
Reacting, the State commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs.
Ibim Semenitari, said the state governor would not dignify Wike with a
response.
Semenitari described Wike as a former aide to the governor, adding that even
as a minister, the position of the governor was still higher.
“As a former chief of staff to the governor and later minister, Wike position is
lower than that of a governor. So, the governor of Rivers State will not dignify
him (Wike) with a response,” she
