My girlfriend discovered in 2011 that her admission in DELSU was fake having spent 3years. She later applied for part time programme; as a result of the rumor of scrapping part time program from nigerian universities, she also stopped. This year she wrote jamb and scored 188. She applied for nursing but before post UTME she decided to do a change of course from nursing to microbiology. She sent money to her friend to help her process the change of course. When it was time for the post utme exam she went, wrote, result came out but her score was not found only for her to discover that her friend did not process the change of course which means she wrote post utme at the wrong department. Just yesterday she told me that she wants to apply for admission at national open university. Pls i need some advice. |

An indication that the new auto policy of the Federal Government will lead to a drastic reduction in the prices of vehicles has emerged with Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited rolling out the first set of low-cost locally assembled vehicles. The Stallion Group, the parent company of Hyundai Motors Nigeria, has directed the immediate sale of its locally assembled 1.1-litre engine Hyundai i10 car at N1.5m, and the 1.2-litre engine Hyundai Grand at N1.9m. The Hyundai i10, under the old regime of importation, was being sold at N1.9m. The Grand is a new vehicle, but most vehicles in its segment are going for between N2.2m and N2.7m. The drop in prices of locally assembled vehicles is, however, contrary to the initial fear that the new auto policy will lead to a sharp rise in the cost of imported new and used vehicles. Many car dealers had projected about 60 per cent increase in the prices of such vehicles following the introduction of the new auto policy in September last year. As part of the new policy aimed at encouraging local manufacturing of vehicles, the import duty on new and used cars was increased from 22 per cent to 70 per cent; while a zero per cent duty was placed on imported Completely Knocked Down (vehicles). Apart from the two Hyundai models, the Stallion Group gave other vehicles locally produced as the Elantra and iX35 sport utility vehicle. In the truck and bus categories are 10-tonne HD160; seven-tonne HD120; five- tonne HD78, three-tonne HD65, 28+1-seater Hyundai County and 30-seater Stallion County. Although no prices were announced for the vehicles, the Chairman of the Stallion Group, Mr. Sunil Vaswani, said in a statement on Sunday that the new vehicles “will be affordably priced,” in order to give Nigerians a break from the stranglehold of wholesale vehicle importers. He added that the Hyundai vehicles were being assembled at its plant in Lagos. The Group Managing Director, Sale, Marketing and Dealer Development, Hyundai Motors Nigeria, Mr. Parvir Singh, described the accomplishment as a milestone in the history of the country’s evolving automotive industry. This is coming barely three months after the auto group, owners of a multivehicle plant, had rolled out its made-in-Nigeria Nissan Patrol and presented the vehicle to President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. The Director-General, National Automotive Council, Mr. Aminu Jalal, had told our correspondent that no fewer than 12 auto firms would begin to assemble vehicles in the country by the end of the year. He also declared that the vehicles being assembled would be affordable, adding that they could be as low as N1.5m. According to him, by the time the several auto assembly plants roll out their products, the stiff competition that will follow will lead to reduction in prices compared to what is currently being experienced in the telecoms sector. Another Korean automaker, Kia, has said it will to roll out its first set of vehicles from its Nigerian plant in September this year. The automaker’s Africa and Middle East Manager, Mr. Homer Kim, stated this in Lagos recently while inaugurating a Kia ultramodern showroom. The Kia Motor Corporation had in February this year signed an agreement with Dana Motors Limited, its representative in Nigeria, to undertake a long-term investment in assets development, including the provision of technical knowhow and setting up a machinery for the local plant. Kim said the plant would immediately begin to assemble select Kia models such as Rio, Cerato and Optima, which are in the A, B and C segments, and commence full-scale production of the entire Kia range next year. Recently, Pan Nigeria revived its moribund assembly plant in the country with the inauguration of Peugeot 301 production line in its Kaduna factory. The Managing Director, Pan Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Boyi, said the new plant had been “fitted to handle multiple Original Equipment Manufacturer brand assembly, (and) when operational, we will require additional 250 workers at the SKD level, and over 1,000 workers when we migrate to the CKD.” http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/hope-rises-for-cheaper-brand-new-cars/ |

The role of the opposition in a democracy is very important and cannot be over emphasized. Apart from the traditional role of checkmating the excesses of the Government, by far the most important role of the opposition is to provide an alternative programme and agenda for the country. This way the electorate can choose between two or more alternatives. PDP members celebrate Photo Credit: 247ureports.com The newly elected (selected) leadership of the All Progressive Congress seems to be struggling from day one. As the euphoria that accompanied the Convention fizzled out, they were trust straight into their first battle. The Ekiti Gubernatorial Election was the perfect opportunity for the Chief John Oyegun led Executive to announce their arrival in grand style. That Fayose won is no longer news. The real news is that APC came a distant second. According to the Returning Officer for the 2014 governorship elections and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, Professor Isaac Azuzu, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Ayodele Fayose had a total of 203,090 votes to defeat other candidates who participated in the exercise.APC candidate and incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi had 120,433 votes to come second. Certainly it was not a close race. Those of us who expected a neck and neck battle were shocked to see APC fall like a pack of cards on a slippery surface. APC lost in all the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State. The implications of this result would become manifest as we countdown to 2015. It is very important to mention that a Coalition of Election Observers has declared the exercise free, fair, and credible. One begins to wonder if APC can indeed rise to the big challenge next year or will continue on this road to self annihilation. My opinion is that APC is not strong enough and therefore cannot displace the PDP in a free and fair contest. I have identified some self inflicted handicaps on the table of APC. First is that APC lacks a national outlook. The PDP has remained relevant in Nigeria because of the national umbrella it has maintained. Although it has its own problems, but it cannot be said to belong to a particular group. The APC has done very little to allay the fears of Christians that APC has a hidden agenda against them. Instead of addressing these weighty fears and suspicions, the APC has rather kept mute on the matter. When the former Aviation Minister Femi Fani Kayode resigned his membership citing the religious bias of APC, the Party instead of addressing this serious allegation, rather responded by saying that Femi Fani Kayode was not a registered member in the first instance. This is like sweeping a serious matter under the carpet and hoping that the news will fizzle out one day. Whether the APC likes it or not, there is a general perception by a significant section of Nigeria that the party was established to project the interests of one religion above the other. While this may be true or not, a party that cares about her image and public perception must address this issue otherwise the perception of voters would continue to influence electoral results against them. Perception is different from facts, but the reality is that voters vote largely on how they perceive you or your party. The second problem with the APC is the overbearing influence of the chief financier Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. A chieftain of APC Chief Tom Ikimi alleged recently that Bola Tinubu single handedly selected persons for all the top positions. This mafia-like posture does not cast APC in good light before Nigerians. It grossly lacks internal democracy. One godfather calls the shots. Chief Ikimi maintained that the ruling PDP is not owned by anybody. It is a national institution that accommodates all and sundry equally. If APC is to be taken seriously by Nigerians, it has to rise above this one man tyranny and make conscious efforts to make APC a party for everyone. Nigerians would love a party that is built on our national pillars without too much attachments to one man. Internal democracy is badly needed in APC if they are to make progress. At the moment if Tinubu catches cold APC would sneeze. This is an insult to Nigerians. One begins to wonder what roles Tinubu would play should APC win the next general elections. Would he give the President free hand to govern without interfering? Your guess is as good as mine. The next problem with APC is that it seems to be the amalgamation of strange bed fellows only united in their lust for power. The membership of APC was drawn from different political parties with diverse interests only united in their quest to capture power from the PDP. While there is nothing wrong with this arrangement, what is however worrying is that the differences instead of getting narrower is getting wider. Chief Ikimi spoke the minds of the silent majority. There seems to be no love lost among the top echelon of the party. The most probable prediction judging from the above is that an APC government would be marred by crises and power tussle should they find themselves in power. APC also lacks a defined ideology. Every opposition that wants to displace the incumbent must work hard to define and market the agenda to the People. Presently most Nigerians do not know what APC stands for. Most People do not know what APC would do differently. These are the roadblocks that may cost them dearly in 2015 and beyond. If President Jonathan wins the 2015 Presidential election, as widely speculated, it wouldn't be because he is the only person eligible to be President, rather it would largely be because there is no credible alternative. Nigerians would love to have a robust debate before the elections. Nigerians want a healthy contest. At the moment the opposition is inadvertently helping Mr. Jonathan to win. Nigerians want a credible opposition against the PDP, not a poorer version of it as an alternative. God bless Nigeria. |

THE Rivers State Police Command said it had arrested the Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, for the alleged murder of his kinsman, Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo and a police sergeant, Urang Obediah. A statement made available to The PUNCH on Thursday night indicated that Lloyd was purportedly arrested on his way to join the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, in his private jet in order to escape justice. The statement sent via e-mail by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, specified that Lloyd knocked down Obediah while pursuing Ejeuo, identified to be his political opponent. Lloyd, who was still standing trial for his involvement in the fracas that took place in the State House on July 9, 2013, was said to have rammed into Ejeuo’s Passat car with a bulletproof vehicle and killed him (Ejeo). The police command pointed out that it had initially thought it was an auto accident until Lloyd relocated to another hospital, “conscious of what he did.” “The Rivers State Police Command has arrested Hon. Chidi Llyod of the Rivers State House of Assembly for murder of police Sgt. Urang Obediah and Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, his kinsman and arch political opponent. “He was arrested on his way to join Governor Amaechi Rotimi in his private jet at the Airforce base to escape justice. “Hon. Chidi Lloyd on December 30, 2013 while pursing his political opponent, knocked down Sgt. Urang Obediah, in spite of his effort to stop him, rammed and killed him and went ahead to crush the Passat car of Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo was driving and killed him. “Initially the Police thought that it was a mere accident, which ought to have been a manslaughter. The Commissioner of Police directed ACP Aliyu Garba, the Area Commander Metro, to visit him in his hospital bed and commiserate with him, conscious of what he did, Chidi Lloyd relocated to another hospital. “Facts emerged that Chidi Lloyd drove a bullet-proof vehicle while pursuing his political opponent, late Mr. Kingsley Ejeuo, and he (Lloyd) knocked down Sgt. Urang Obediah, who died on the spot and (Lloyd) moved ahead to smash a political opponent in his Passat car who equally died instantly,” the statement reads. The statement added that late Ejeuo, who hailed from the same place with Lloyd was believed to be in the PDP camp led by Elder Felix Obuah. The statement also indicated that the Leader of the House allegedly escaped from the hospital where he was being guarded by four policemen. However, a top government official told our correspondent that the claim by the police that Lloyd tried to join Amaechi in his (Amaechi) private jet in order to escape justice was a blatant lie. It will be recalled that Lloyd, who presented himself to the Nigeria Police after a video clip showed him hitting a member of the House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Chinda, with a mace on the head, was charged to court on a six-count charge, including attempted murder. Lloyd was later granted bail in order to receive medical attention after sustaining injury during the July 9, 2013 free-for-all in the chambers of the State House of Assembly. source http://www.punchng.com/news/rivers-assembly-majority-leader-lloyd-arrested-for-alleged-murder/ |
