Reason is that he was not love in Ibadan and the only crime against this man was Ibadan don't serve people twice and he ask people to leave the street. Most of road have been expanded in Ibadan, Transportation has been relatively improved, when I read the the first thread I wish i could ask him to give out crime of Ajimobi and you will discover is money related From all the candidate that contest in 2015 election in Nigeria, only in Ibadan has highest contender because most of them were political jobbers, Ajimobi closest rival Ladoja suppose to have look for a young chap like Femi Lalehin but he just want to be the governor at all cost. The Executive Director of Contact Project, Jennifer Lynne, believes that presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State were indeed compromised. Ms Lynne, an international observer monitoring the Nigerian presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State, was speaking on Channels Television via the telephone on Sunday night. She said that over the course of Saturday, she, along with the multinational civil society observation team had the opportunity to move across Port Harcourt, the state capital and observe several of the polling units. She disclosed that at the end of the exercise the team witnessed the difficulty of the availability and security of result sheets. She also raised questions concerning what she called compromised election materials, as well as the dysfunction of card readers as widely reported. Responding to a question about the magnitude of the irregularities recorded and if they were enough to invalidate the election, Ms Lynne said, “This will be a question of the INEC being able to hear these complaints and make decisions upon the validity based on the reports they are getting. “At the press conference that was held today, there were additional international reporters and observers present who would confirm violence and election tampering. “So I will leave it to the INEC to take seriously the concerns that have been raised.” Controversies have trailed the Saturday election in the state, with Governor Rotimi Amaechi raising an alarm that elections did not hold in several Local Government Areas owing to the unavailability of result sheets at polling units, which he said was a deliberate act by the Peoples Democratic Party with the connivance of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The view was also shared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside, who had earlier in the day led a peaceful protest demanding that INEC schedules a proper election in the state. Ms Lynne also threw her weight behind the citizens’ refusal of the exercise. She stated that the protests held on Sunday across the streets of Port Harcourt were justified. “Some of our international community members have reported ballot boxes that were broken. We have seen violence and intimidation recorded as well at some polling areas,” she said, adding that her team had also made attempts to report their findings at the INEC headquarters but were refused entrance into the facility. She, however, promised that her team as well as other international organisations monitoring the elections would ensure that they submit their reports to INEC as soon as possible to help the commission in making a timely decision. The PDP Governorship Candidate in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has debunked APC’s allegations that there were no elections in Rivers State, including the observations recorded by Ms Lynne and other international election observers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7lahs2NfP8 http://www.channelstv.com/2015/03/30/rivers-election-compromised-international-observer-jennifer-lynne-says/ |

Rights campaigners in Nigeria have slammed the Rivers State Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, for prodding the people of the state to fight, even with their blood, to rid the state of elements of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Mr. Ikuru, on Monday, had asked members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state to fight and redeem the state from the APC even if it means shedding their blood. He made the call in Port Harcourt to a crowd of PDP supporters who turned out to welcome him after his defection from the APC. “It is necessary for the sake of your fathers, for the sake of your mothers, for the sake of your brothers and sisters and for the sake of your children. Every Rivers man must stand up to fight this evil among us,” Mr. Ikuru said. “If it demands your blood, so be it.” The Director, Centre for Democracy and Development, Idayat Hassan, told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Ikuru’s statement does not just portray hate but is especially dangerous because of the forthcoming elections. “This a very worrying situation particularly looking at how volatile the election is. It amounts to dangerous speech, it goes beyond hate speech, it’s a dangerous speech to incite people to violence,” Ms. Hassan said. Ms. Hassan said the comments by a serving deputy governor is unlawful, punishable, and against the Abuja peace accord signed by political parties. “As much as the political gladiators keep inciting people to violence, they should not forget that if they feel the culture of impunity is actually encouraged here in Nigeria, that the ICC has already issued a statement to the effect that if anybody commits violence during this election will go in for it,” she said. Emmanuel Onwubiko, the National Coordinator, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, condemned the statement. “That’s very callous, if he made that comment,” Mr. Onwubiko said. He said he hopes the Deputy Governor’s statement attracts international attention especially with the recent statement from the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal court that anyone who incites violence or participates in violent act during the election will be held responsible for their actions. With Rivers State having recorded pockets of pre- election violence, various organizations have put the state on “red alert”, he said. “That particular state has been burning, I think political leaders from that Rivers State should be careful of what they say. The state is a flashpoint for political violence, so you don’t expect anybody, a respectable politician from that state to be the one to speak of violence,” Mr. Onwubiko said. He added that it is pertinent for the Deputy Governor to quickly recant his statement and apologise to Nigerians for making such inciting speech. Also, Lauratu Abdulsalam of the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme said such statement from a personality as the Deputy Governor of the state can lead his followers to cause an unimaginable level of violence. The activists also called on the National Human Rights Commission to look into Mr. Ikuru’s statement and hold him accountable to any violence that might erupt in the state. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/179141-rivers-deputy-governor-ikuru-under-fire-over-call-for-blood-fight.html |
The Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has partially reversed his directive that Nigerians leave polling centres after voting in Saturday’s presidential election, rephrasing his position following counter directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission, Nigeria’s leading political parties, and First Lady, Patience Jonathan. Mr. Abba had warned voters last week to leave after voting, saying it would amount to allowing people take laws into their hands if they stay to protect their votes. He said the police will ensure all votes count. The directive was rejected by INEC, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Congress, as well as Mrs. Jonathan. In her remarks at the PDP Women Presidential Campaign in Enugu on Monday, Mrs. Jonathan said guarding the votes will eliminate all forms of rigging and make the elections credible. The first lady urged her party’s supporters to guard against manipulations by the opposition parties. “After voting on March 28, make sure you follow your votes till the end. Do not leave the arena until the counting ends,” she said. Speaking Wednesday after a meeting with police commanders ahead of the election, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Abba, backtracked, saying he did not bar voters from staying behind after casting their ballots. He said he merely “advised” them to leave. He said the police would prefer that voters leave to check violence. “The police did not ban anyone from the polling units after casting their vote, we only advise people to cast their vote and leave the polling units,’’ he said, according to the News Agency of Nigeria. Mr. Abba said Nigerians who wish to stay after voting should remain 300 metres away from the centres in line with the Electoral Act. Speaking at a separate meeting with INEC Wednesday, Mr. Abba said it was important for voters to cast their votes and go home in order not to commit any electoral offence. He made the comments at a National Stakeholders Summit on the elections organised by the INEC in Abuja. “This advice that I am giving is resulting from what I observed in the provisions of section 129 of the Electoral Act,” he said. “Nine different types of offences are listed there in and if you stay back, there is likelihood of you committing one of those offences.” The INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, had earlier said there was no law barring voters from staying behind to watch their votes. But the IG said the offences in the Electoral Act that may result if voters loiter include canvassing or soliciting for vote, persuading a voter not to vote for a particular candidate or not to vote. He said other electoral offences were possession of any weapon, use vehicle or things bearing a colour or symbol of a political party. The IG pledged that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, will provide security for all polling units and 9,000 collation centres across the country. “In order to also make INEC officials and their materials secure, we have identified almost 900 INEC offices nationwide, mindful of the fact that security of the materials is important,’’ he said. He added that security agencies were also working to ensure that streets and homes were protected during the elections. On the deployment of soldiers for the elections, the police boss noted that the military would be deployed to play supportive role as stated in the Constitution. Mr. Abba advised INEC to guard against late commencement of elections and rigging so as to ease security agencies’ effort at maintaining peace on elections days. “Where election rigging occurs, it may be a threat to conduct of peaceful elections,’’ he said. He warned politicians against using thugs to further their interests. “Whatever is the outcome of the elections should be accepted by you; if rejected, follow the legal procedure,’’ he advised. He said that in carrying out their duties, security personnel will be mindful of and respect human rights. On his part, the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Jega, said that the commission had taken measures to improve transparency and credibility of the process of collation of results. “Hard copies of result sheets from polling units would be scanned, converted to PDF format and put in a database, which would be made available for viewing and download via the INEC website. “Every voter or stakeholder will be able to confirm the accuracy of results from the polling units, which have been conveyed to the collation centres,’’ Jega explained. He added that not less than 82 per cent of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been distributed nationwide. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/179064-police-ig-backtracks-says-nigerians-can-stay-after-voting.html |
