Programming / Need Help With Service That Can Process Text Messages by Nov1ce(m): 8:22am On Sep 04, 2012
Hey guys!
I don't really know how to go about it, but I need to build a web service (preferably Java) that can be assigned a number and then text messages can be sent to the web service for further processing...
Thanks.

I go with you!
@OP: Language translation is more than directly converting individual words directly!
Do a lil more research!
Programming / Re: Nairaland Needs A Mobile App by Nov1ce(m): 10:38pm On Aug 21, 2012
Fruittyswaqboii: Where are the app developers in the house? I think its high time nairaland had its own mobile app so it could make accessing the network easier and certainly, much more fun. A good example is the Auto section. People just learn to advertise their products and services and wait for phone calls/e-mails/  Pings but they don't follow up the comments here. If we had an app, I'm sure push notifications will make us aware of what's going on on our posts. Will really appreciate if this is put into consideration. Moderator front page please smiley

Programming / Re: I Need Help With Oracle 11g by Nov1ce(m): 10:44pm On Aug 12, 2012
akj26: Pls I need advice on how to have strong foundation & sound carreer in Oracle DBA. I have started reading different materials on oracle 11g since the beginning of this year. I dont know if that is enough or I should go for a training to have practical knowlegde in Oracle before I write the exams.
You actually don't need to go for the training if you've truly been reading this long... All you need are:
1. Resource Materials (Books and their Slides)
2. Past Questions (Dumps)
3. The Oracle Setup for practicing on your PC.

I have all three, what don't you have?
Programming / Re: Laptop Good For Programming? by Nov1ce(m): 10:35pm On Aug 12, 2012
okeyxyz: Are you sure it has just 1gig ram? I don't expect any laptop these days to come with less than 2gig ram. other than that, it should serve your purpose.
It depends on what you'll be doing but any laptop I'll advice you start with something with 3GB of RAM and above so you don't get frustrated when your applications and services are taking forever to load...

what a reasonable advice!
settling d issue wit my family is not a problem, but her family is d main issue here. coz am very sure her dad will never nd ever agree wit it. But she keep telling me i av notin to fear for.
Just give it time man... He'll eventually have to come around when he sees there's nothing he can do about it (after she's done with school) but right now, she's still under his roof and she's still living off his bank account so he kinda has a say for now.
Romance / Re: Is She Up To Something?....pls If Can't Do Without INSULT Don't Open Dis Thread. by Nov1ce(m): 7:25pm On Aug 08, 2012
If you had not censored insults, I'd have called you a NUTJOB... But since you did, I'll refrain from doing that.

Guy, If you think getting her pregnant will solve the problem, then you must be joking...Seriously!

Well seems you've got cash thats why you were able to move to another apartment and your mom was able to get the attention of the police abi... Think about the consequences, you'll probably suspend or even stop her education, then you'll have two people to cater for (the girl and her schooling, and the baby...which is way more expensive).

In my opinion, if you truly love this girl, let her finish school first and if by then she's still heads over heels for you(Because from the look of things, you are her first real relationship... It might just be all the emotional jiggy-jiggy that's making think she loves you to that extent), then start marriage proceedings FIRST by settling with your own family before you move to her family.

PLEASE LEAVE THE GIRL ALONE OOOO!!!

Programming / Re: VB.NET Assistance Needed From VB.NET Gurus by Nov1ce(m): 12:31pm On Aug 08, 2012
I think I could help...
First you'll have to read all the scores from the database...
Put all the results in an array, Perform a sort operation on your array so it sorts each element from the highers to the lowest...
Then, you'll insert the positions based on the array index e.g the highest score would be at the top so all you'll do is use the index + 1 as the position.

This would work straightforward assuming you have a perfect collection of scores (i.e. no duplicates) but eve if you do, it'll just be a step further and I'll think up something once you'r able to do what I said successfully.

Cheers!

TV/Movies / Re: Request To Create Anime Forumn by Nov1ce(m): 6:46pm On Aug 06, 2012
Parnassuss: There's already a thriving Naruto and Bleach thread here so a separate forum might not be necessary. Though I have to disagree with ur chronology, for me it goes;

1.ONE PIECE
2.NARUTO
3.DEATH NOTE (Just begun watching it)
4.FULL METAL ALCHEMIST (Brotherhood)
5.NINJA SCROLL
6.SAMURAI X (need to rewatch it sef)
7.BLEACH (solely on the basis of their brawn & beauty)
8.DB (Never seen it, but everyone's raved about it)

Naaaaa!!!! Naruto's always number one man!
Just thought we would have our own spot instead of looking for a thread that keeps growing and becomes difficult to search. Also, it would allow different threads on different topics.
PS: Your thread link doesn't even work... See what am saying...

Hi,

If anyone has experience with it (I would really appreciate if I can use something like Interswitch), kindly revert....
TV/Movies / Request To Create Anime Forumn by Nov1ce(m): 10:46pm On Aug 05, 2012
Hey!
This is the best place I found to put this.
I would like to request that Nairaland Administrators create a forummn for Animes, I know it's not exactly everybody's thing, but it would be helpful to those of us that follow them (Adults...TechWhizes...etc.).

Example of anime's are: Naruto (Number 1 by the way), Bleach, One Piece etc.

Thanks...
Business / Re: Counting Your Money At The ATM: Why? by Nov1ce(m): 10:41pm On Aug 05, 2012
mxxpunkxx!:
only illiterates do so . . if u really understand how an ATM works, then you would be wasting ur energy counting,
the machine has a sensor that pushes each bill into the dispatch tray, one bill at a time
another infra-red sensor scans each bill for thickness. this means if two bills are stuck together, it would not come out
rather it would pass into a reject bin. any bill that is badly torn is also passed into the reject bin
it does this so perfectly, it could never go wrong.
the only mistake an ATM could do, is debiting your account without paying
and it's not the machine's fault. it's caused by a timeout in network while transmitting banking messages from the machine to the relay server.
O boi! Na Naija we dey o!
I have known people who withdrew money and after deducting it from their account moni no commot from the machine!
I have recieved bad bills from ATM machines before!
So, as much as you give brutal intellectual gist, take practical experience from the field!

Sam xiu lee: Poster,Am a christian nt a witness any way but must you argue the bible the way you want just for your convinient? You could has well throw away the old testament,i had to reread all those verses you just quoted and i could nt see any correlation with what you said.Jesus christ was a Jew,and he taught us how to pray and he started with Our father who hath in heaven,he didnt say my father or on my name on earth, pls its all this kind of argument that has brought the world in turmoil, do you even know the meaning of the word prayer? Please check your dictionary.

I kinda have to take you on that...
After Jesus' time on the earth, the Bible records that "God has given Him a name above every other name, that at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord..."
Even before Jesus left, He himself said that a time will come and that "Whatsoever we ask God in His name shall be given to us..."

Point being: Yes God is supreme, Yes God is who we need to pray to... But we need to do it through the work of Jesus Christ since he's the one who exchanged our nature with His....
Also check this out: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
(John 14:13)

Think on these things deeply...

Have you forgotten that it application development generally is not for the "not so smart"
You want someone to spend sleepless nights for #70,000 and then send you the source code
Come on, You could try posting an ad for a developer, I think that would get better responses,
