Crime / Re: Couple Chained Houseboy To Death. by Noxious: 6:35pm On Aug 28, 2010
BanditC: OK let's be straight here. Before anyone tries to castigate my opinion or call me names, i am a bonafide Igbo son, born and raised in Igboland.
That being said, let my fellow Igbos here not pretend like this issue is not one that has been plaguing Igbos for a long time.
Growing up in Enugu, all the so called ''agbenu'' people (people from Anambra State) were notorious for having several maids that they treat like mere dogs. I saw this while growing up and still saw it before leaving Nigeria. These wicked demons called ''madams and oga'' treat these poor kids like trash. Some even go to the extent of pouring hot boiling water on these poor house-helps or using hot burnt rod on them, things you wouldn't even do to animals. They do all these while courting their own kids as living treasures.

I was raised poor but even while not having much, my parents, being really educated, swore never to let any of their kids be sent away to such slavery. These demons even have the audacity sometimes to approach my parents asking for one of my siblings as maid (can you imagine) while their own kids are there, bunch of lazy b.a.s.t.a.r.d.s.

I am seriously not surprised that the couple involved are from Anambra states. These people, over the years have had that disgusting impression that they are the achievers of Igboland and other Igbos should see them as their lords. Even the poorest and dirtiest looking ones among them would look at people from say Enugu or Ebonyi and demean them, calling them primitive. That is why you see these godforsaken demons of madams and ogas prowling the villages of Enugu and other Igbo states looking for slaves to cart away. But times have changed.

Anambra should put their house in order.
Most ills and vices in the east are from there. These guys are grossly illiterate and their wives are just lazy Zap.s. who can't do jack but surround themselves with maids they torture to hell.

It's about time this issue comes to light. I lived my whole live in Enugu, listening to the cries and wailings of housegirls and boys being brutalized every night while the people turn a blind eye. Enough is enough

That being said, i can rightly say that these devil incarnates that deprived this kid of life should burn in hell for all i care.
@ Bandit C: I don’t need to be from Anambra State to be disgusted by the approach you’ve chosen in reacting to such a shocking case of domestic brutality. Like all generalisations, yours is flawed and lacks any basis in truth. However, what is really horrifying is that you’ve allowed years of bitterness against people from a certain part of Nigeria becloud your sense of reasoning and fairness. Thankfully, not all Nigerians think, reason, and put forth their arguments this way.
@ Topic: Sad story. One hopes that the police will prosecute this case according to the dictates of the law, and that the victims/families affected will get justice.

This movie don enter Part III now now?
Smart move, Jonah Goodie! Either sack Dora Akunyili too OR appoint her Health Minister. She has no business being Info Minister. Sacking her would mean you think she's a cheap heroine; making her Health Minister would mean you recognise her area of core competence and are ready to place a square peg in a square hole. We are watching. Naija for life!

"Suing people for money u'd never have made on your own". that's what Asa is doing. if they aint lesbains, let them show proof of their being straight. By the way the soft-sell magazine sells based on rumour, you can't blame them if their write-up is based on rumours that have been heard.

All magazines including soft sells are information outlets and should be careful to use the privileged position of mass information they occupy to educate not misinform. You have obviously been misguided. Yes, they should show proof of being straight by coming out in the streets with hunks and putting up the kind of show usually reserved for the privacy of the bedroom.Mscheeew!

e-herbal Well if she ain't gay how come there's no guy in her life for the past 4 years her album launched, heard of none.love her songs though

You mean a publicly-advertised guy? Or do you know for sure that she is in no romantic relationship with a man?

Romance / Re: Why Do Nigerian Ladies Insult Their Toasters? by Noxious: 1:47pm On Jan 16, 2010
@Poster: It's not a Nigerian thing and GENERALLY if you "toast" a girl wrongly anywhere in the world, you'd certainly get some humbling treatment. Let's consider this too, how about those ladies well into their late 30's? How come they don't mind the manner of approach and rarely insult their (few) 'chykers'?

@Stillwater, The AMAKA etc telling horrible stories about growing up in Nigeria and having these "uncivilised" men approach them in the streets, I say you need a little schooling, and I say it with all respect. It's our culture that men approach women in streets and although I know many will misunderstand this, not considering that culture by definition is simply a people's way of life. All this talk about stalking has no meaning and makes absolutely no sense to a man who's lived all his life in Nigeria. Do we have regular, easily accessible clubs in Nigeria where people meet? Don't people use the church (as odd as it sounds) as a social meeting point? How many "average" Nigerian men get to attend weekly parties where they could meet their women in an acceptable, politically correct, social setting? We should try to separate life/tradition/convention in Europe and North America from what it is here, and the fact that our men would keep stopping complete female strangers on the road to talk to them is a CULTURE that would continue in Nigeria for a long time to come.

However, how these men do the approaching should determine how the ladies respond. As has been said, if you're approached respectfully, please respond respectfully. There's nothing weak about a friendly cheerful "NO" spiced with quiet dignity (as Michelin89 would have us believe she practises, LOL).

Finally,

I happen to agree with Martinosi and I think the "long paragraph" was that detailed in order to sufficiently educate a greater number of people. We don't all come with the same IQ level. So stop crucifying him; you may skip the paragraph as it is not compulsory to read it.

I also agree that most girls living in Nigeria (even those from other countries) can be made to compromise their emotional loyalty or otherwise be bought by undeserving men. Again, Martinosi hit the nail on the head when he said it's as a result of economic poverty and poverty of the mind (both of which are somewhat related). I don't think EVERY girl in Nigeria has a low self-esteem; that's a rather blanket statement, but MOST do.
Romance / Re: Help My Boyfriend Is Contacting His Ex by Noxious: 12:57pm On Jan 16, 2010
@Poster: I am not assuming the worst but did it occur to you that if your bf is really a player and also visits Nairaland, that he might have seen this thread and then decided to tell you before you confront him? That way, he could secure peace and what you presently share, while he works out things with his ex. That's a possibility and I might be wrong.

Why didn't he speak with you BEFORE going to see her? I have an idea of meetings like this between guys and their supposed ex and how purportedly rested relationships & old flames can be rekindled in an instant. Just be careful, it may not be uhuru yet!

For your sake, I hope it's not as bad as I have hypothesised.
Politics / Re: Dele Momodu Quits Column Writing by Noxious: 5:28am On Jan 09, 2010
I only remember that egomaniac's name because I read ThisDay occasionally but not his column. However, I was very lucky to read this last piece announcing his "retirement". I almost puked after reading the article and was going to comment and bash him when I noticed that some people had already commented "thanking Uncle Dee" for his good work! In that instant, I felt it was no use. You can imagine my happiness at reading all these now and realising that there's still some hope left for Nigeria, afterall. Never knew the guy had such wide discerning readership. Thanks NLanders! Nigeria never loss finish!
Car Talk / Re: Aba Ingenuity-people’s Creativity Rebuilds Banned Okada In Aba To Tricycles by Noxious: 8:02pm On Dec 08, 2009
It's shocking to see otherwise educated people steeped so deeply in the corrosive juice of tribalism. The fact that they are probably young people too is worrying because it's a pointer that the dream of a future rancour-free Nigeria is scarcely realisable. This same ethnic bigots would hypocritically hide their true colours on social networking sites like Facebook and make a show of being detribalised by having Nigerians from every cranny on their friends' list. However, under the cover of pseudonymous posts offered here, they manifest the true darkness of their hearts. I weep for Nigeria.

@Poster: Any e-mail address at which you could be reached? I have a few male Nigerian friends in New York and I don't plan to tell them anything beyond that you want to network with your kith and kin smiley . All I intend to do is introduce you casually to them. I think you'd get to meet more people by hanging out with them and their friends' friends. You can also reach me at dennis.chukwuma@yahoo.com

Politics / Who Is Olusegun Adeniyi, Yara'adua's Spokesman? Evil Man Or Good Man Gone Bad? by Noxious: 7:03pm On Nov 28, 2009
I recently came across a comment on www.234next.com that made me critically think of this man who's arguably one of the best our journalism schools produced in the last 50 years. Hear the 234 poster :

"Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, you said Mr president felt bad because of rumours concerning his death. Did it occur to him (or you as his spokesperson) that the reason why people are feeding on scarps is because you have starved them of information? This is the first time in two years that there has been an official disclosure of what is wrong with the president. As a one-time journalist whose profession thrives on the oxygen of information, do you think this is fair? Wouldn't it have been absurd if the rumour mill did not kick into life? What do you expect people to do? You withhold critical information from them and then lament when they fall back on their imagination. By the way, Mr Adeniyi, why have you always responded with barely concealed irritation when former colleagues have asked you questions concerning the president or his health? Are you not the same person who, a couple of years ago, railed and ranted about freedom of information? How is it that you now get indigant when people try to tease the same information out of you? Why have you stopped asking the same searching questions about governance in Nigeria now that you are now on the other side? Does it not bother you that the president of a proud country like ours will continue to travel abroad for medical examination? What does that say about the state of our health sector? Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, have you suddenly forgotten what things are like outside the villa? Is this the Verdict we have all been waiting for?" http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5487111-146/Yar'Adua_is_suffering_from_heart_condition.csp

Why do the best of our social watchdogs do a 360 degrees turn or appear to do so, the instant they rise to any form of power?

@Pres-elect: I bin think say na only me dey find better babes for London o go dey enta wrong wrong hands like that. I wonder where all these decent Naija girls dey go hide.

@Poster: All lies!

@House: You all surprise me. Which Swiss woman would construct her sentences the way this "woman" did? I am not talking about grammatical accuracy nay, I am referring to the painfully obvious direct translation from a local Nigerian language (something like Igbo, Yoruba or pidgin) to English! Re-examine the thought process guys. No European woman would advance her case the way this poster did. Seun fit don give person money make im sell us another cock & bull story. Business must go on come credit crunch or somali pirates!

People keep dying on that road daily yet nothing is done by the government. They rarely travel by road anyway.
