@Naijaking,,,,,
Pls reply my post now pls

Here's the reply, I'm posting it a second time, because the first one was removed after a couple of hours:

Diabetes mellitus is essentially a problem of sugar usage in the body. Too little or too much sugar causes symptoms. The medications include the ones you're using right now, insulin, and most important of all, education. You're young, and that's to your advantage, because with proper education, medication, and exercise, you should live your normal life span. I have a patient who is 102 years old who has had diabetes since she was 36 years old.
Exercise is good for the body, because the muscles become more able to use sugar, but in situations were exercise is not enough, medications become useful. If you loose a few pounds of your weight, you will immediately notice an improvement in your sugar control. If you have a good doctor who is knowledgable about diabetes, you should be getting your urine, blood, sight, and body checked every six months or there about. Also, find a good diabetic education nurse or health professional who will help teach you about nutrition, exercise, and medications. I tell my patients that diabetes is no longer a death sentence in this day and age; and I tell you the same.

Samaru I need you to be clear. What xray was done. what symptoms did you go and see the doctor for. the doses you are talking about, how many milligrams daily or twice daily. For asthma and all exacerbations of chronic lung diseases(that is when it gets worse) I tend to give high dose steroids for a short time 5 days and then stop. Are you on long term steroids

Doctor Balogun,

Pls I seriously need help in this health case I'm battling with. I discovered to my utter dismay that I'm suffering from severe memory problem. Whenever l'm told a thing, read some materials for learning or enjoyment, and hear a thing, l can hardly vividly recall anything in the next few minutes. I'm seriously concerned, sad and despair for the future fearing I might not get somebody with whom to share my life with this condition and cope effectively with life. when i was in my teen years in the 1990s, i used to be one of the brightest students capable of captivating, articulating facts as I read or heard them, but now, alas, I can't recall a thing clearly. Recently, I transacted a business with one of my customers, who clearly recalled a scenario to remind me of how his balance was updated, but I couldn't as he did. This situation has led many of my friends to term me ignorant, dullard, insane etc. Plsss!, what could be the cause of this nagging problem and the cure? Is there any hope of recovery from this unpleasant problem?

Memory loss is usually caused by dementia-long term, delirium-short term, or even by amnesia-caused by injury or stroke. Then there're genetic ones like Huntington's. Parkinson's and Alzheimer's are also memory loss conditions. You must know other likely causes of memory loss---head injury, seizure, lack of vitamins like B12, aging, alcohol, infection, depression, hysteria-confusion, stroke, etc.
Dementia praecox is a forgetful and psychiatric condition of young teenage girls--the age many small girls think they are ogbanje or mammy water in Igbo culture, for example.
I have given you this list because your history did not specify age, medical condition, history of trauma, family history, etc.

True to your word, naijaking1, I'm an individual given to depression from my youth up. I was in this depressed condition simply because of inability to participate in normal social activities as a result of my partial deafness. When I was a teenager, about the age range of 8 and 11, a boy poured sand into one of my ears following a misunderstanding btw us that led to a brawl. Since then, I've been living in a cloudy, dim & hopeless world of loneliness, isolation, fear, worry etc. As I am, I've no friends to keep me company becos of difficulty to effectively communicate, even till now.
My people, pls what suggestion is there available for me to follow to get lasting relief? By God's grace, I'm the only son of my parents and much is expected of me. But this problem make me somewhat afraid of the future in that I discovered that to succeed in this life one need a good and strong social network, which I dont have. I'm so lonely! Could this possibly be the cause of this problem, my people?

Take vitamin b tablets 2 tablets daily. cool

also 2 tablespoonful of honey will also be of help.

Like I suspected earlier, your primary problem is not memory loss. Memory loss maybe one of the manifestations. Also, you're able to articulate and state your problem rather well, unlike many patients I have seen with real memory loss.
Please ignore the above advice to shove some type of vitamin or medications into your mouth at this time, you really need to be evaluated for depression and hearing loss. If you have depression, treating it will give you far better satisfaction than simply taking vitamins. Good luck

hi docs,

my dad (76yrs) is diabetic and has just developed swollen feet. he also has difficulty sleeping at night due to the pains in his feet. he is thus forced to take sleeping pills every night. he also has difficulty walking around and has also gained some weight. we have taken him to several hospitals but his situation has not really improved. he's kind of frustrated with the hospitals right now and am a loss as to what to do. is there anything we can do to alleviate the pains and swollen feet while we look for a specialist to attend to him?

thanks for your anticipated response.

There're many likely causes of swollen feet in a patient like your father, but congestive heart failure CHF seems to be at the top of the list. The swelling may cause dull pain/sensation, but if he's experiencing sharp pain, we might need to be looking at another diagnosis: peripheral artery disease PAD. Patients with CHF do also present with difficulty sleeping, because when they lie down flat, they become short of breath, and when they become short of breath, they simply jump up from sleep. Sometimes, they achieve temporary relief by putting 2-3 pillows under their head, or by sitting on a chair.
The most unique situation is simply because, many patients could and do have many of these conditions combined. That is patients could have diabetes, PAD, hypertension that has progressed to CHF. Diabetes may cause wounds on the legs, but those kind of wounds are not usually painful at some stages, because pain sensations on patients with diabetes are usually bad, so they have what is called neuropathy. What to do?
Proper diagnosis and differention is the primary key, because treatment and management of these conditions are quite possible. Also, patients with PAD also have more than 70% chance of having occluded arteries in other parts of their body, ie heart, brain, abdomen; so early diagnosis is important in reducing chances of these other arteries blocking up and producing heart attack, stroke, or ischemic bowel.

I am sorry for your situation, I remember prescribing the medication for a couple of patients in an outside service for mentrual irregularity and acne. Do you smoke? Are you pretty heavy set, or over 35? I hope you have stopped the yaz, and other modifiable risks like smoking if applicable. These factors increase the risk for deep vein thrombosis DVT and subsequent pulmonary embolism PE.

If you have already had a PE, it's always likely you'll have another one, unless you take anticoagulants like coumadin/heparin. However, when patients become intolerant to these anticoagulants, because of undesirable side effects like bleeding, another alternative would be putting a Greenfield filter. This filter is placed under x-ray, and by a qualified surgeon, just above the 2 big veins from both legs as they become the inferior vena cava.

You should also consult a hemetologist to help you with replacing some essential clotting factors removed by long history of anticoagulant use, in addition to seeing a surgeon. You should also know that coumadin or warfarin as they call it in US is not good during pregnancy, so if you ever think that you're pregnant while coumadin, notify your doctor as a matter of emergency.

Our 6 weeks old baby sucks very hard to the extent that my wife's nipples became sore. It hurts whenever she breast feeds. Someone recommended Kamilosan cream but we've searched all pharmacy shops we know without any luck. Does anyone in the house know where I can get this cream? I will also appreciate an alternative solution to this problem.

Thanks fore your anticipated assistance on this.

@ubiaa5 and others
I see you had a post that's probably missing too. I know that a very detailed technical response I gave to your question about DVT was swallowed up by somebody, something, somewhere.
Unfortunately, as Dr. Balogun and other physicians contributing their time and energy to provide free medical advice on this forum have observed, everything started immediately a moderator was appointed for this forum, and also once the moderator is online, posts begin to disappear. Appointing a non-physician moderator to moderate responses made by physicians obviously is not the smartest idea, and hasn't been shown to work. It's like asking an illitrate to moderate a debating championship by college students.
While, we wait, wait, and wait for our posts to make it for the benefit of our patients on this thread, I urge you to petition the moderator, administrator, and Seun, because this can't go on for too long.
Time is money.
