Politics#election2019: Kingsley Moghalu’s Profile - Pic by nwabobo(op): 6:54am On Mar 04, 2018
Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu is a political economist, lawyer and former United Nations Official. He served as a Deputy Governor, Financial System Stability, of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2009 to 2014. He was appointed by the then President of Nigeria, Umaru Yar'Adua in 2009. His expertise in risk management led to an invitation and appointment at the CBN as risk management skill and knowledge was much in demand after the global financial crisis of 2008.

He is also a Professor of Practice in International Business and Public Policy at the prestigious Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, a premier US university in Boston, Massachusetts.

Premier American universities only confer the title of "professor of practice" on selected, highly accomplished individuals who combine intellectual achievements with high-level real world experience beyond the ivory tower.

Professor Kingsley Bosah Chiedu Ayodele Moghalu was born in Lagos on May 7, 1963. He is the first of five children. His father, Shortly after his birth, his father was posted to Geneva, Switzerland. The Moghalu family spent a year in Switzerland and then moved to Washington, DC in 1964 when Isaac Moghalu was posted to the Nigerian Embassy there. In 1967, the family returned to Nigeria.

After his secondary education at Eziama High School, Aba, Government College, Umuahia, and Federal Government College, Enugu, Kingsley Moghalu obtained a degree in law at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.

Nation Youth Service under the National Youth Service Corps as a Legal Officer at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Ltd in Lagos followed. So did a subsequent three-year stint that combined law and journalism as General Counsel of Newswatch, the leading newsmagazine in Nigeria at the time, a prolific contributor to the opinion pages of The Guardian newspaper, and a special correspondent in Nigeria for several US and European newspapers including Africa News Service (forerunner of AllAfrica Global Media), South, and the Christian Science Monitor.

Kingsley Moghalu left Nigeria again in 1991 for his post-graduate education at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, turning down an offer from a friend to remain in Nigeria and become the company secretary of a new generation bank that was being set up in Lagos. His sights were set squarely on a loftier dream, one that called for delayed gratification. That goal was a career in the United Nations. Moghalu was awarded the Joan Gillespie Fellowship at The Fletcher School. He obtained a master's degree in international relations from there in 1992.

Kingsley Moghalu was appointed into the United Nations (UN) Secretariat in 1992 by then Secretary-General Boutros-Boutros Ghali on the basis of individual merit. In the UN, Moghalu worked hard and rose through the ranks from entry level Associate Officer to the highest career rank of Director. Along the way, he handled legal, strategic planning and executive management assignments at UN Headquarters in New York and in Cambodia, Croatia, Tanzania, and Switzerland.

In 2006, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan appointed Moghalu as one of five members of the high-level Redesign Panel on the UN Internal Justice System that overhauled the regulatory compliance, accountability, and dispute resolution framework that governs the global workforce of the UN. This was a core aspect of UN management reform. This six-month special assignment was at the nominal level of Under-Secretary-General, the highest political rank in the UN below the Secretary-General.

Kingsley Moghalu had deferred his plan to study for a Ph.D. when he was appointed into the UN after his master's degree in 1992. A decade later, he returned to his quest for knowledge. By now a senior officer in the UN system in Geneva, he enrolled and studied part-time and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in international relations at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2005. Kingsley Moghalu completed his 450-page doctoral dissertation in a record-breaking 12 months and his overall degree in 18 months.

Immediately after this, he studied for and obtained the International Certificate in Risk Management at the UK Institute of Risk Management in London. Later, he received further education in macroeconomics, financial policy, and corporate governance at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard Business School, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Institute.

In the course of his UN system career, Kingsley Moghalu helped design a comprehensive risk management system for the $20 billion Global Fund in Geneva, an international development finance fund established under UN auspices. There, he was also the Head of Global Partnerships and Resource Mobilization and a member of the Risk Committee.

As his passion for risk management grew, Kingsley Moghalu’s interests shifted to the private sector. He resigned his permanent appointment in the UN in January 2009 and established Sogato Strategies in Geneva with the minimum capital of 100,000 Swiss francs required to set up a Societe Anonyme (limited liability) corporation in Switzerland. The risk advisory firm soon won profitable mandates from global corporations such as the Swiss bank UBS and Syngenta, the Swiss agrochemicals multinational.

Kingsley Moghalu is a much sought after public speaker at global forums, and is a frequent commentator on global media such as CNN, BBC World TV, Bloomberg, and the London Financial Times.

Professor Moghalu is married to Mrs. Maryanne Moghalu, a lawyer and social entrepreneur and they have four children.

PoliticsRe: Chibok Girls: Jonathan Blasts APC Govt, Lai Mohammed by nwabobo: 11:39pm On Mar 02, 2018
bobnatlo:
Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has rubbished a statement credited to the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed that his administration delayed in responding to the abduction of Chibok girls.

Mohammed, while speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the Editors’ plaza championed by the Nigerian Guild of Editors, said, “Now, don’t compare orange with apple. When Chibok girls were kidnapped, it took the PDP government 18 full days to admit that the girls were kidnapped. This time we swung into action within 24hrs.”

Reacting to the statement, Jonathan told Mohammed to respect his age and stop lying to Nigerians.

In a statement signed on his behalf by his former aide, Reno Omokri, Jonathan described as lies report that his government took 18 days to admit that the Chibok Girls were kidnapped.

The statement sent to DAILY POST reads, “My attention has been drawn to fallacious comments made by the notoriously dishonest Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, to the effect that the Jonathan administration did not act on time when the Chibok Girls were kidnapped whereas the Buhari government acted promptly when the Dapchi Girls were kidnapped.

“Lai’s comments are reminiscent of the statement made by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, justifying President Buhari’s inaction on killer Fulani herdsmen because the herdsmen also killed during Jonathan’s tenure.

“When will Lai Mohammed respect his old age and stop lying? Is he not ashamed at the storm he is currently facing on social media after he lied that 100 planes are searching for the Dapchi Girls, a statement that was promptly denounced as a lie by the Nigerian Air Force? Even members of his own government know Lai Mohammed is a liar.

“For the avoidance of doubt, it is not true that the Jonathan government took 18 days to admit that the Chibok Girls were kidnapped.

“The Chibok Girls were kidnapped on April 14, 2014. Exactly three days later, on April 17, 2014, then President Goodluck Jonathan called an emergency National Security Council meeting at Aso Rock Presidential Villa.

“If the Jonathan administration did not admit that the Chibok Girls were kidnapped, why would the President summon a Nation Security Council meeting?
“Now more than a week after the Dapchi Girls were kidnapped, has President Buhari held a National Security Council meeting to address the situation? No he has not. As a matter of fact, to prove to Nigerians how inept he is, the President canceled this week’s Federal Executive Council meeting.

“Which serious leader cancels the most important meeting in his nation at a time when Kaduna is facing ethnic and religious killings, Zamfara is facing mass killings by bandits, Benue, Plateau, Adamawa and Taraba are facing an onslaught from Fulani herdsmen and 110 girls were kidnapped in Dapchi?

“Going back to the Jonathan administration, the Nigerian Army and Air force began searching for the girls after the emergency National Security Council meeting on April 17, 2014, with sorties being flown in search of the girls.

“But very curiously, Nigerians would recall that the All Progressive Congress Governor of Borno State, Governor Kashim Shettima, admitted in an interview he gave Premium Times on April 2, 2016, that he deliberately did not inform the then President about the Chibok kidnap when it happened. President Jonathan had to find out from military forces on the ground.

“Why would the chief security officer of his state be that negligent?

“My advice to Alhaji Lai Mohammed is that he should direct his lying talents to the specific task of cooking up lies to counter the testimony of the APC Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Geidam, who blamed the kidnapping of the Dapchi Girls on the Buhari administration.

“According to Mr. Geidam, the Nigerian Army under President Buhari pulled out the troops guarding Government Girls Science and Technology College, Dapchi.

“Who gave the order for the troops to leave their guard duty? The sector command has said that they handed over security of the school to the Nigerian Police Force, an assertion that has been denied by the police.

“These are the things that should concern Lai Mohammed, not a contest with an administration that scored higher anti-corruption ratings from Transparency International than the corrupt government he is serving. And if he has too much time on his hand, Lai Mohammed can travel to more European football clubs to disgrace himself and his family by wearing a suit jacket on top of an agbada.

“Let me end by saying that whoever named Lai Mohammed at birth must have been a prophet. The person was able to look far ahead into Lai’s future and gave him a name that rhymes with his life’s purpose

AgricultureRe: Nigeria Responsible For Collapse Of Rice Mills In Thailand - Audu Ogbeh by nwabobo: 11:15pm On Mar 02, 2018

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Audu Ogbeh says Thailand has accused Nigeria of being responsible for the collapse of its seven rice mills following the drastic fall in rice importation from the country.

The minister made this known at a meeting of the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative ( PFI ) and leadership of the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers of Nigeria ( FEPSAN ) held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ogbeh said Thailand’s Ambassador to Nigeria made the “accusation’’ when he visited him in February.

According to the minister, the ambassador lamented that the collapse of the rice mills has increased the unemployment rate in his country from 1.2 per cent to 4 per cent.

“Just like two weeks ago, the Ambassador of Thailand came to my office and said to me that we have really dealt with them.

“But I asked what did we do wrong and he said unemployment in Thailand was one of the lowest in the world, 1.2 per cent, it has gone up to four per cent because seven giant rice mills have shut down because Nigeria’s import has fallen by 95 per cent on rice alone.

“So, Mr President we thank you for the support and we thank all the agencies and those of you in the private sector for your resilience,’’ he said.

The minister, however, alerted the nation on what he described as alarming smuggling of fake fertilizer and rice along the western borders of the country.

He, therefore, called on the Federal Government to take drastic measures to check the trend as all previous diplomatic measures had failed to address the menace.

“But one last request Mr President, we have to take one strong measure against our neighbour to the West. The smuggling is really compromising our capacity on our result.

“Too much rice, too much fake fertilizer is still coming across the borders into this country in spite of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) we have with them they are not listening.

“Maybe if the Federal Government take one tough action, they will come and renegotiate the terms because good neighbourliness means reciprocity.

“We can’t be allowing them to survive at our own expense and I believe that we will do something about it,’’ he said.

Ogbeh appealed to FEPSAN to adjust their blending formula using little more micro nutrients for some crops like cocoa, cashew, plantain, banana and others that would soon be revived by his ministry.

The minister noted that the agricultural sector had created millions of jobs for Nigerians in the last two years.

He said: “People may say what they like about jobs. Recently I heard that we lost four million jobs. Nobody has calculated the millions and millions of jobs created on the farms.

“So, this programme as it grows can only make us stronger.

“As soon as more dams and lakes are put in place, you begin to sell fertilizer all year round and not wait for the rainy season alone.”

I checked out the report and realized he doctored the report, even in his doctored report southeast and South south were stated as the next two big regions for kidnapping.

It is also important to note that the crime statistics of metropolitan Lagos is added to the crime statistics of southwest.

Every one knows the crime statistics of metropolitan areas are always higher than that of the country side because of the mixture of different people and high population. I.e. you can't compare the crime statistics of London or new York to other state or cities in there countries
So when it comes to regional development, you claim Lagos as SW but when it comes to crime rate, you remember Lagos is metropolitan.

Anyway, Lagos has always been a no man's land.

zakim:
Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, yesterday, said the major opposition party, the PDP, is no longer a brand.

He said the ruling APC had no credible opposition in PDP, but admitted that the ruling party’s opposition was from within.

El-Rufai, however, said he was confident that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reconciliation committee would resolve the crises within the APC, adding that the party would come out stronger.

The governor said this in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, while delivering Al-Hikmah Univeristy’s first public lecture titled: ‘Governing justly: Perspective from Far and Near with Lessons for Nigeria.’

He said more revelations concerning the PDP’s 16 years of alleged misrule would come to the fore before the 2019 general elections.

“We are a party that is just five years old. We are a miracle. We are truly a 21 Century miracle. A party that was formed a year to the elections and it ejected a party that had ruled for 16 years is a miracle. We will solve our problems and we will win the next elections even in more states,” he said.

iamherry:
The federal government has released a statement informing Nigerians how President Buhari should be addressed at formal functions henceforth. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, gave the directive in a circular sent to ministries, departments and agencies of the federal government. The circular reads;

“Government has observed with concern the inconsistent manner in which the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria is addressed during Official and Private functions. It has therefore become necessary to have a standard format for addressing him at such formal occasions. To this end, Mr. President shall henceforth be addressed as ‘‘MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.’’ except in purely Armed Forces Programmes, where “COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA” will be added. All concerned persons should accordingly be guided and ensure strict compliance with the contents of this Circular.”

This new directive indicates the president, though a retired major general, is not to be addressed by that military rank at formal function

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been spotted by security agents in Ghana, TheCable understands.

There has been controversy over the whereabouts of the IPOB leader who was last seen in public in September 2017 before the military launched Operation Python Dance II — apparently to quell the agitation for the breakaway of south-eastern Nigeria.

Since the military raided his home in Aba, Abia state, there has been speculation that he was arrested and might have been killed.

At some point, Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia state, said Kanu was in London.

His court trial for treason has stalled and Enyinnaya Abaribe, the senator who served as Kanu’s surety when he was granted bail after spending 18 months in detention, has sought to be discharged from the obligation after his disappearance.

However, security sources have informed TheCable that Kanu was ferried to the Niger Delta creeks by militants at the height of Python Dance II, from where he found his way to Ghana by sea.

He is regularly seen at Kenzo Bar and IBG saloon in Accra, disguised in fez cap and usually in company with his wife, Uchechi.

Kanu is said to live at an area called Cantonment, also in Accra, at an estate called “Arabella”.

He regularly patronises suya joints in remote parts of the city, according to the sources.

If confirmed, this will lay to rest speculations on the fate of the IPOB leader.

His brother once asked the military to release his “dead body” if he had been killed.
