Took Anambra to first position in school leaving exams because he was writing the exam for the students. Interesting

Billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has come to the aid of ailing former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Fregene.

The 72-year-old who represented Nigeria in the 1968 Olympic games, had been bedridden since 2016, battling a yet-to-be-disclosed ailment. Otedola got wind of the footballer's ailing state, sent his representatives to Sapele, Delta state where the footballer resides and has instructed that he be airlifted from the airport in Edo state to Lagos state today Friday, June 14th where he will be given medical attention at the Reddington hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos state.

This is not the first time the billionaire would be extending his generosity to footballers. Recall that in April, he donated $50,000 for the medical treatment of ex-footballer and coach, Christian Chukwu in a UK hospital.

When has a Government interest to build an Infant Correction Centre become a crime...?

I wonder which reporter in Daily Punch that tagged the event that took place at Umunze, an INFANT PRISONS...?

Kindly read the unadulterated report as provided by Vincent O Ezechukwu.

".....Anambra State Government Set To Commence Construction of Correctional Center at Umunze, Orumba South LGA.

The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, in collaboration with JUNAPID and ROWNAC set to commence construction of correctional center in a parcel of land donated by Umunze community Orumba South LGA.

Inspecting the parcel of land donated by Umunze community through the President General, Mr Boniface Akanyeonu, The Anambra State Commissioner For Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue assured of the ministry's readiness in ending the issue of lack of facility to assist children in conflict with the law, during rehabilitation period.

Honourable Mezue, spoke affectionately of Umunze people in their support to the government of the day in Anambra State, she further explained that, the center when completed will house international standard Hostel facilities, Skill acquisition center, Correctional facilities, Class room blocks, Administrative buildings among other facilities.

The center, according to the honorable commissioner, will serve as facility to provide shelter where children in conflict with the law will be rehabilitated, trained in various skills, and acquire basic education before being reunited with their families

It should be a juvenile correction centre not an infant correction centre. Are they planning to put kids less than 10 years in such facilities?

What's your take on this? I think the man is right on the buck.

What I hate about corruption in Africa and specifically Nigeria is there is no real sense to it. The corruption paralyzes and destroys the countries internally. There is no sense to it. What is the sense in not having electrical power, roads, functioning hospitals? It is like corruption for the sake of corruption. I don't see any sense in it.

We have corruption in the west, sure. Most of it is making a buck. I mean, politicians will "skim" for a buck on shady construction deals, but the construction still gets done. Power company people will lie and steal, but we still have power. I can go on and on.
I remember reading that when we were rebuilding Korea (I have tried to find the link to this again but can't) that we tolerated a corruption rate of about 15% **so long as things were being rebuilt and the work was getting done.** That was a cost of doing business and I am not condoning it, but it was a reality.
The African corruption is sad because there is just no sense to it. Can't there be more money made if there is 100% power? If there are roads? If there are solid schools and hospitals? Just some of my observations on the corruption I see from afar.

Nine Nigerians arrested in US for $3.5m wire fraud

Nine Nigerians have been arrested in the United States for defrauding individuals and businesses of more than $3.5 million.

Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the southern district of New York, and James C. Spero, special agent in charge of the Tampa, Florida, field office of U.S. immigration and customs enforcement’s Homeland security investigations (“HSI”), disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

The suspects are Oluwaseun Adelekan, Olalekan Daramola, Solomon Aburekhanlen, Gbenga Oyeneyin, Abiola Olajumoke, Temitope Omotayo, Bryan Eadie, Albert Lucas and Ademola Adebogun.

The US officials said the suspects committed the fraud through business email compromises, a Russian oil scam, and a romance scam.

“As alleged, these defendants deployed three different email schemes to defraud their victims.  The common denominator in all three schemes was the defendants’ alleged fleecing of their victims through fictitious online identities,” said Berman.

“The schemes allegedly earned the defendants $3.5 million – and also arrests on federal felony charges.”

The defendants are accused of participating in a scheme to defraud businesses and individuals through several categories of false and misleading representations.

“Sending victims email messages that appeared to be, but were not, from legitimate business counterparties that included instructions to the victims to wire payment to those seemingly legitimate business counterparties into bank accounts that were actually under the control of, and/or maintained by, Adelekan, Daramola, Aburekhanlen, Oyeneyin, Olajumoke, Omotayo, Eadie, Lucas, and Adebogun (the “Business Email Compromise Scam”),” read the statement.

“Sending email messages and text messages to at least one victim offering an opportunity to invest in oil stored in Russian oil tank farms conditioned on that victim wiring upfront payments into bank accounts purportedly affiliated with the purported oil investment but actually opened by and under the control of Aburekhanlen, Olajumoke, and Oyeneyin (the “Russian Oil Scam”).

“Sending email messages and text messages to at least one victim from an individual (or individuals) purporting to be a female with romantic intentions toward the victim requesting, further to establishing a romantic relationship, the wiring of payment into a bank account under the control of Omotayo (the “Romance Scam”).”

They are each charged in the indictment with one count of conspiring to commit wire fraud and each defendant faces a maximum potential sentence of 20 years in prison.

Politics / Re: Ebonyi Activists Knock Glo Plc Over It’s Defaming ‘oga Sim’ Advert, Demand It’s by nwabobo: 11:02am On Apr 27, 2019
ebenyieugene:
A group of Ebonyi activists, namely; Onu Innocent, Richard Inya and Chris Nnanna Ogba Jp have submitted a petition to Mr Mike Adenuga of Globacom asking him to without further delay take down the ‘Oga Sim’ Advert (video) from all his company’s platforms, and stop further airing of same from being aired on any media platform and tender an unreserved apology to the government and people of Ebonyi State.

The group who in strongest terms condemned the said video advert, urged Mr Adenuga to take an objective look at the said advert, look at the bigger picture and add his voice to the petition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lVN9ZRh-lY

The Advert which has been described as ‘injurious’ to the reputation of Ebonyi people has received wide condemnation especially as it reflects an ignoble status of what could be referred to as an old Abakaliki; a development that is regretted of a multinational that is scooping it’s millions daily in the state, with little or no ‘Consumer Benefit’ accrued to the people.

The petition which seems to be a reflection of the people’s reactions against the Advert was copied to all relevant stakeholders for complaints and record purposes.

Read the full text of the petition below;

27th April, 2019.

Mr Mike Adenuga,
Owner, Globacom Limited,
Mike Adenuga Towers,
1 Mike Adenuga Close,
Victoria Island,
Lagos.

Sir,

GLOBACOM’S DISRESPECT FOR ABAKALIKI (EBONYI STATE): A CALL TO TAKE DOWN THE “GLO OGA SIM ADVERT FEATURING LAGBAJA.”

May we draw your attention to one of your company’s adverts titled “Glo Oga SIM: The unrivaled Big Boss of Data, featuring Lagbaja” which has been running on various media platforms including major TV channels in Nigeria.

Let us quickly point out that the manner in which parts of your advert portrayed the city of Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State is disrespectful, humiliating and deeply offensive, and does not in any way represent what the city is or looks like. No matter the message your advert was designed to convey, we believe it has been marred by its dangerous message which clearly promotes the usual fallacy that had stereotyped Abakaliki as a city of poverty-stricken, downtrodden, timid and helpless people living in undeveloped, unhealthy and shabby environment.

While your company and some other persons may see it as just an advert, and while some people may dismiss our observation as irrelevant and a non-issue, what we see is a harmful message and a serious insult on the people of Ebonyi state. By airing this advert, you are marketing your products, while demarketing Ebonyi State and its people thereby undermining in splits of seconds the developmental efforts of both the government and our people over the years.

This particular advert has also become a serious source of emotional and psychological trauma to us every time we get to watch it and we believe that a lot of our people feel the same way.

Abakaliki is the capital city of Ebonyi state, a state which is now considered the fastest growing state in south eastern Nigeria with over 5 million citizens scattered across the globe including professors, top political leaders, international businessmen, doctors, engineers, top religious leaders, lawyers, and other hardworking citizens in different fields of life, most of whom are your loyal customers spending thousands of naira on your network, and it beats our imagination why your company chose to portray them in this ugly manner.

For a well-respected company like Globacom, whose vision is about the “People” and whose aspiration is to build Africa’s biggest and best telecommunication network, this particular advert represents a new low for your company and it goes further to expose a careless attitude of insensitivity and inability to pay serious attention to details.

Sir, we therefore demand:

1. An immediate take down of this advert from all your media platforms.
2. That your company stops further airing of this advert.
3. That your company tender an unreserved apology to the government and people of Ebonyi State.

Please be informed that we are prepared to boycott all your products and as well encourage other
concerned citizens to do same in protest for this act of humilation. We shall also mobilize a host of other citizens to carry out both online and offline protests if your company fails to meet all our demands within two (2) week from the date of this letter.

However, you may wish to delegate a team from your organization to visit Abakaliki to see how it looks, for apparently, there was no such activity before that production.

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation.

Petitioners:
1. Mr Onu Innocent Chidi (08156453381)
2. Mr Inya Richard (08038709697)
3. Mr Ogba Christian Nnanna Jp (08034371937)

Corruption is not the reason Nigerians are poor, even if you eliminate corruption, Nigeria will still be poor with the revenue we get at the moment.

In what has been described as another feather to the hats of the Akeredolu’ administration, the Joint Tax Board (JTB) has rated Ondo State as the Highest growth performing state in the internally generated revenue [IGR] from the 2017/2018 Comparative IGR performance and percentage growth.

Ondo state with a population of just above 4 Million, generated the sum of N10,927,871,479.76bn in 2017, and an improved figure of N24,788,059,725.53bn in 2018 respectively, representing an annual growth of 126.83% in a space of one year.

It was also noted that Bauchi, Imo, Sokoto, Kogi, Niger, and Akwa ibom emerged top 7 earners of Self-Assessment tax across the country.
This information was made available to the public yesterday following the release of the 2017/2018 Comparative IGR performance and percentage growth by the joint tax board.

The Joint Tax Board is the umbrella body of all the tax authorities in Nigeria, which is saddled with the responsibility of promoting and ensuring uniformity, harmony and efficiency in the administration of Personal Income Tax in Nigeria as well as advice government on general tax matters.

Coming top among its counterpart in the federation, the rating is a confirmation of the state government efforts over the past two years which were aimed at charging all the revenue generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to improve on their revenue generation as a way of building a strong economy base in the state.

The state of Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) has proven to be effective with its plans, which has successfully brought major stakeholders in revenue generation together to review, highlight and proffer solutions to challenges militating against optimum performance.

Upon the assumption into office as the executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Akeredolu reiterated his commitment to mapping out various strategies that are in line with the global best practices on revenue generation, and this rating is a testament of the effort of the Akeredolu led administration at improving the fortunes of ondo state.

Politics / Re: The 5 Problems With Atiku's Server by nwabobo: 11:15am On Apr 18, 2019
netpro:
Election has come and gone. Atiku is in court disputing the outcome. The PDP candidate is currently banking on some alleged INEC Server entries as claim to become President.

Here are some of the top 5 problems with this Atiku's cliffhanging.

1. With the failure of the PDP in getting President Buhari to sign the proposed electoral bill into law, Nigeria's current Laws regarding Elections does not cover electronic transmission of results. So the only valid results acceptable by law are those collated and announced by authorized INEC returning officers.

2. The INEC's card reader can only transmit accredited numbers and NOT number of votes and parties voted for. Even at that, there are still manual verification of voters where the card readers fails or malfunction.

3. Neither PDP, Atiku or his agents are authorized to access the figures they are parading. It is illegal and inadmissible in court. Hacking, espionage and unauthorized access to classified information is still a crime all over the world. Atiku and his hacker can still be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if the Federal Government wish to do so.

4. Atiku's figures can only be accepted in court if he divulge his source, who will also testify to its validity. And the government will also arrest and trial such an individual for espionage and treason against an institution of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

5. The Constitution and the Electoral Laws of the Federal Government of Nigeria does not in any way recognize the figures being paraded by Atiku and his Team order than the figures officially announced by INEC - who by law are the Independent Electoral Umpire in Nigeria, no one else (not even the President can announce a winner, except INEC). Inviting programmers from Heaven can't even help Atiku in any way.

The electoral ACT empowers INEC to formulate and issue electoral guidelines. It's under that power that INEC approved mandatory use of card readers. It's now for INEC to show the use of card readers in Borno, Yobe, Kano as well as the other 34 states and the FCT.
