Politics / Metuh Urges South-East Governors To Demand Nnamdi Kanu’s Release by Nwaforj44: 6:00am On Oct 05, 2021
FORMER National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh, has urged Governors of the South East to demand for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Metuh gave the advice in a statement titled, “Use Enugu Meeting to Demand Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Metuh Urges S/E Governors,” which he signed and made available via email, on Monday.

He enjoined the governors to use their proposed Enugu meeting to make the demand.

Metuh said, “As governors and leaders of the southeast zone converge in Enugu to find solutions to the security challenges in the zone, one sure step towards achieving answers is for our leaders to use the opportunity to demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention.

“It is a considered submission that the release of Nnamdi Kanu will not only douse tension in the region but also put an end to allegations and counter-allegations regarding those behind the escalated insecurity in the zone and give our security agencies a clearer cue to track down the perpetrators.”

His appeal is coming against the backdrop of denials by IPOB that it was not involved in the series of senseless killings and arson in the zone.

The former PDP spokesperson further said, “authorities should therefore use the release of Nnamdi Kanu to eliminate the current puzzlement and complications as well as a political solution for situations that constitute unrest in the South East.

It is therefore imperative for our governors and leaders to use this meeting to impress upon the Federal Government to adopt a political approach by releasing Nnamdi Kanu.

Politics / Anthony Sani: Stop Using IPOB Threaten North Over 2023 Presidency by Nwaforj44: 6:24am On Oct 07, 2019
2023 presidency: Don’t threaten North using IPOB, says ACF scribe

The Secretary-General of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Mr Anthony Sani, has warned that using the Indigenous People of Biafra to threaten the North over the 2023 presidency will not help the cause of the Igbo to produce the President when the time comes.

Referring to a statement credited to a former Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, in an interview with a national newspaper (not The PUNCH) where the elder statesman noted that Igbo people might embrace IPOB if denied the presidency in 2023, the ACF scribe argued that using IPOB to blackmail the region was unfair.

According to Sani, in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threats and intimidation.

He said, “I have said democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons, and not by threats and intimidation that have no place in multiparty democracy. The presidency is secured in multiparty democracy through persuasions that seek to break barriers and build bridges. It is not obtained through affirmative action.

“I do not believe Ezeife could say what was reported. This is because he is too intelligent not to know that Nigeria practises multiparty democracy which allows political parties to present their candidates from any zone as part of their winning game plans.

“Ezeife also knows that there is no national consensus on rotation, power shift or zoning that is binding on political parties. That may explain why President Muhammadu Buhari contested with President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003 despite the deliberate concession of the presidency to the South-West because of Chief (M.K.O.) Abiola. That is also why former President Goodluck Jonathan contested with Buhari in 2011 and 2015.

“If ex-President Jonathan had won in 2015, the South would have held sway for over 16 years in the nascent democracy. You may also note that in 2019, presidential candidates emerged from both the North and the South. What is more, democracy is a contest of ideas and reasons and not a matter of threat and intimidation.

“Worst of all, the feisty doctor is reported as using IPOB to blackmail the nation. This is most unfair, especially when regard is paid to the fact that the threats can convey an avoidable impression that some elders of the South-East still nurse some desire to split the country through IPOB.”

But in an interview with Sunday PUNCH, Ezeife said the South-East would embrace persuasion to achieve its aspiration, adding that discussions were already ongoing with some groups in all parts of the country to achieve their aspiration.

“We are going to lobby every group; we would lobby from North to South, East to West. Some of us have started; one Revd. Obiora is foremost in this, he has started and he is in touch with some groups already. If we are not able to organise ourselves and 20 Igbo people come out to contest for the presidency, that will be our fault. But we want to ensure that we get in touch with the political players to organise themselves and ensure that they present themselves for Nigerians to see,” he said.

However, the President-General of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said all groups in the South-East would work to achieve the 2023 aspirations, adding that plans were underway to approach the two leading political parties as well.

“We will approach both major parties as platforms to actualise the Igbo 2023 presidency project. We would remind both the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party to first respect the gentleman agreement by zoning the party ticket to South, and then persuade the stakeholders in the South-South, South-West, to allow South-East to take a shot at the Presidency.

Politics / Middle Belt Not Part Of North, Will Fight For Its Liberation – MBF by Nwaforj44: 12:27pm On Sep 09, 2019
The Youth Wing of the Middle Belt Forum, said the Middle Belt Region is never and will never be part of the North but will continue to fight for the liberation of its people.

The youth wing of MBF noted that there is no sense in continuing being together with the north, a people who persistently seek their total destruction and annihilation by abetting the invasion of their communities, raping their women, killing, maiming and displacing their people into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for the sole purpose of taking over their ancestral lands and enslaving our people.

Emmanuel Zopmal, National youth leader of the youth wing of the Middle Belt Forum in a statement he issued responded to an interview by a retired police commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav had thrown caution to the wind and insulted the collective sensibilities of the leadership and people of the Middle Belt Region by claiming that the Middle Belt cannot be separated from the core North.

The statement explained, “We are not surprised at Tsav’s position, having traced his antecedents of mental slavery to the core Northern oligarchy. Sadly, our discovery shows that Tsav rose to the position he occupied within the Police Force through such sycophancy and betrayal of his people all through. It is therefore not surprising that, even in his old age, he has demonstrated that indeed old habits never die.

“Ordinarily, we would not have bothered to comment on Tsav’s baseless claims. However, for the purpose of putting the record straight, we wish to remind him that he is in the least competent to comment on the affairs of the Middle Belt as he has never at any time acknowledged himself as a member of the Forum, nor has he shown any impact or contribution towards the course of the Middle Belt struggle. On the contrary, his posture has always been that of a spoiler and an adversarial collaborator who is always in a hurry to execute the agenda of his paymasters to the detriment of the Middle belt People.”

The youth explained that in Tsav’s ill-motivated interview, one of the claims by Tsav is that the Middle Belt can never be separated from the Core North.

“How laughable this is! For the avoidance of doubt, let it be sounded loud and clear to Tsav and his paymasters that the Middle Belt Region is never and will never be part of the North.

“There is no sense in continuing being together with a people who persistently seek our total destruction and annihilation by abetting the invasion of our communities, raping our women, killing, maiming and displacing our people into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for the sole purpose of taking over our ancestral lands and enslaving our people,” the youth explained.

The youth said the concept of the Middle Belt is beyond Tsav and his paymasters. “After all, we have gone past this stage. To put the records straight, Tsav and his ilk should know too well that the amalgamation of 1914 only coerced ethnic nationalities of different regions into a nation called Nigeria.

“Over 100 years after, it is clear that this unity must be renegotiated for us to appreciate and mutually respect our diversities where justice, equity and fairness will be upheld or we go our separate ways. Tsav is too small to wish for a forced union that is hinged on abuse and illegality.

“We also need to remind Tsav and other detractors of the Middle Belt Movement that the Middle Belt identity is as old as the Nigerian nation. If the former police commissioner is a good student of history, he ought to be conversant with the factors that necessitated the constitution of the Willink Commission and the recommendations thereof.

“If he is not conversant with this history, we advise him to seek help and be properly schooled by those that are knowledgeable, provided he has not yet slipped into a state of senility,” the statement observed.

The youth disagreed with the retired police commissioner claimed that the National President of the Middle Belt Forum, Dr Pogu Bitrus and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr Isuwa Dogo, do not represent the Middle Belt people.

“We view Tsav’s claim as sheer mischief deliberately anchored to mislead undiscerning members of the public. We and indeed, the teeming people of the Middle Belt, know that both Dr Pogu and Dr Dogo are widely known and respected leaders of the MBF, but who does Tsav speak for? Surely, it is obvious that Tsav is unknown to the people of the Middle Belt and can never be our voice,” the statement explained.

The youth called on members of the public to disregard the ranting of Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, whom the youth said has a penchant of being the mouthpiece of the oppressors and detractors of the Middle Belt people.

Politics / Commission Wades Into UNIZIK Don, Monarch N14m Land Deal by Nwaforj44: 7:34pm On Aug 20, 2019
Prof. Anthony Eze of the Department of Vocational Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has petitioned the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) over a N14 million land purchase he transacted with Igwe Peter Uyanwa, the traditional ruler of Okwulu Community in Anambra.

Eze, who addressed a case conference of PCC, chaired by Mr Samben Nwosu, the Federal Commissioner for Anambra, in Awka on Tuesday, alleged that he was led into the transaction under false pretence.

He said Uyanwa came to him through one Osy Nwosu over the available land for sale after which he paid N11 million into the monarch’s bank account on March 21, 2016 and another three million naira to the community.

He said he was neither led to the site nor issued documents to enable him to take possession but was surprised that the same parcel of land was sold to another person who had developed it and moved in.

Eze said the two plots of land were located at Abuja Estate opposite Government House, Awka.

He said all efforts he had made for the monarch who sold the land to him to evict the intruder had been unsuccessful as the Igwe told him to go and fight for his land or give him N900, 000 to mobilise thugs to chase the developer out of the site.

He alleged that the sellers belonged to a land racketeering syndicate who sold the same parcel to different people to defraud them.

The professor said he no longer wanted the parcel of land but his money which the monarch had refused to refund after the deal went sour.

“Igwe came to my school in his convoy, told me about the land and I paid him through the bank with a caveat that I will get my money back if anything goes wrong. I dealt with him based on trust.

“I paid him N11 million and another three million naira to Nwosu and Awka people who owned the land.

“Later I was alerted that somebody was developing the place which I informed Igwe but he said I should go and fight for my land.

“I later discovered that these same people sold the land to the person developing it. Instead of telling us who the rightful owner is, he said I should give him N900, 000 to mobilise thugs,” Eze said.

He said Uyanwa gave him two allocation papers belonging to Mr Ralph Okeke and Mr Ezekiel Obalim (now late) with which be prepared the land documents in which the monarch signed as a witness.

He said he later discovered that the two persons did not own any parcel in Abuja Estate and that as he did not have business with them on the matter, he wanted the monarch to refund his money.

“I have asked him to refund me my money to no avail, notable Anambra monarchs have intervened but he has refused to give me my money,” Eze said.

On his part, Uyanwa admitted that there was a transaction on land between him and Eze on land and that the money was paid into his account.

He said he was only a middleman between Eze and the two owners of the parcels of land who actually sold them and that he transferred the money paid into his account to the land ownrts,

He said the original title documents of the land were handed over to Eze after he made payment and that he took possession afterward.

He denied that he demanded N900, 000 from Eze to mobilise thugs as there was no need for such.

The monarch told the commission that the professor had dragged him to the police, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the shrine and traditional rulers over the matter in a bid to scandalise him.

He said he had no issue with Eze and that he should go to the real sellers of the land and the person who built on it to possess his land.

“Yes, I know Prof. Eze and he paid money into my bank account for two plots of land because I am the President-General of Abuja Estate Welfare Association, I transferred the money to the people who were allotted the land as payment.

“I have given him the original title documents and they have not been proven to be fake, he has the papers and has taken possession of the land .

“Let me add here that Prof. Eze is well known to me but he is out to scandalise my name because the person who contested the Igwe (stool) with me is using him, there is no place he has not taken me to,” he said.

In his ruling, Nwosu, the Commissioner, said all those mentioned in the matter, including the occupant of the land, would be summoned to state their role in the matter.

He frowned at the high level of land matters in Anambra, including those involving monarchs, and called for all to be just in their dealing with others.

He said the person occupying the property at the moment was irrelevant and promised that every necessary investigation would be made to unravel what transpired and who the true owner of the plots of land in question was.

Nwosu adjourned the case conference on the matter until Sept. 2.

Politics / Stop Linking Me With Frozen Lagos Accounts - Ambode To EFCC by Nwaforj44: 4:38am On Aug 10, 2019
The immediate past governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, has cleared the air over a statement attributed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging that it had frozen certain accounts linked to him.

The former governor, in a statement released on his behalf, yesterday, by his media aide, Habib Aruna, said no account of his contained N9.9bn let alone being frozen by the EFCC.

He said in the spirit of Sallah and having served Lagos State well with utmost dedication and integrity, his record is very clear and his mind joyful for the opportunity to have served the state diligently.

“Those accounts were opened in the course of normal operations by the Lagos State government for its administrative purposes and not for the former governor’s personal transactions, as was being wrongly insinuated, and have been operated to ensure smooth operations of government’s activities by previous and present administrations.

“The former governor was not and will never be involved in any unauthorised use of government property and resources.

“We strongly believe that after four demanding years as chief executive of Lagos State, Mr Ambode is entitled to some deserved rest with his family and loved ones without the unwarranted attacks on his well-earned reputation.”

“The former governor, therefore, re-assures Nigerians that he remains committed to the ideals of President Muhammadu Buhari and the founding fathers of the party for the attainment of next level for Nigeria.

“Former Governor Ambode also extends warm Sallah greetings to President Buhari and his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the entire leadership of APC as well as every Lagosian, praying that the lessons of Sallah will serve as catalyst for the much-needed bond and spirit of brotherliness among all and sundry in our great country.

Politics / Abia Govt Orders Aba Market Leaders To Refund N150,000 Collected From Traders by Nwaforj44: 4:01am On Aug 09, 2019
Abia State government has ordered the leadership of the Traders Association at the Ekeoha Shopping Centre, Aba, to refund illegal levies collected from traders at the market.
Akelicious gathered that the market leaders had collected sums ranging from N100,000 to N150,000 per shop from the traders in the guise of constructing a flower pot, access road and other projects in the market.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, the state government explained that the only levy approved by the government across the markets in the state is N18,000, which covers ASEPA, ABSAA, Stallage, Fire Service Operations, PPIDF, personal income tax and business premises.

Describing the collection as a “brazen display of illegality and impunity” by the leadership of the traders association, who issued demand notices with deadlines for payment, the statement explained that the N18,000 levy is payable only once in a year.

Politics / Akwa Ibom APC Alleges Attempt To Destroy Evidence In Guber Election Petition by Nwaforj44: 6:22am On Aug 05, 2019
The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies in the state of the plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other respondents to tamper with exhibits and evidence it tendered before the election tribunal hearing petitions that arose from the last governorship election in the state.

A statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Nkereuwem Enyonekere, alleged that the PDP and Gov. Udom Emmanuel were embarrassed by these exhibits, which showed clearly that the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) worked together to perpetrate one of the worst electoral frauds in the state.

“Our evidence and the exhibits have shown clearly that there was no accreditation at most of the polling units during the governorship election. This is why INEC allowed PDP supporters to engage in multiple voting using unclaimed PVCs,” Enyonekere alleged, adding that “we are calling on the security agencies to be on the lookout for these unscrupulous politicians who have no restraints in executing any unconscionable action to achieve their evil purposes. The Tribunal Secretariat and its staff are hereby warned not to be induced into criminal activities by the promise of huge financial payments, a familiar practice of the PDP. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.”

Politics / A Must Read: Ikorodu Crime Flashpoints To Watch Out For by Nwaforj44: 6:08am On Aug 05, 2019
Nigeria is gradually becoming an insecure nation with the rising wave of insecurity from north to south becoming the order of the day.

Every day, hopes are dashed with heartwrenching stories in the media of bombings, banditry, herdsmen attacks in the North, killings, brutality, and kidnappings in the West and South and a government that seems confused on how to tackle these issues on our hands as a nation.

Lagos State is not spared from the insecurity challenge in Nigeria, even with efforts made by the previous administrations and the government of the day to ensure the safety of its populace.

When compared to other parts of Lagos, Ikorodu can be said to be void of adequate governance, thereby, likened to an island of insecurity as it is one experiencing what can be called fragile security architecture.

The once peaceful area is now marred with an array of criminal activities which is fast becoming almost a permanent feature as in the case of emerging cities. Some of the dastardly acts experienced are, but not limited to street gangs/rivalries, cultism, rituals, rape, robbery, kidnappings, etc., an unpalatable experience of the pervasive growing insecurity in that community.

According to reactions generated by indigenes and residents within and around Ikorodu community, gathered that Ikorodu is believed to be a territory controlled by underworld kingpins where crime is fast becoming a norm.

Many thanks to the Ambode administration which worked tirelessly to curb and bring under control a lot of the underworld activities within Ikorodu, although, there is still so much to be done in wiping out this menace.

According to information gathered by , below are some crime hotbeds within and around Ikorodu to be wary of:

Anibaba: An Ikorodu community notorious for street gangs and cult clashes.
Itu Nla: Known for notorious cult clashes
Igbo Olomu, Isawo, Agric areas of Ikorodu: Known for pipeline vandalism
Bayeku, Igbogbo areas of Ikorodu: Notorious for cultism and cult clashes.
Ibese: Known for cult rivalries and clashes
Oriokuka: Known for robbery and theft.
Ikorodu roundabout/garage: Notorious for bag snatching, robbery and scamming unsuspecting individuals even in broad daylight.
Ipakodo: Known for cult clashes, kidnapping and robbery.
Aga: Witnessed a couple of cult clashes
Laspotech First gate: Notorious for robbery, cult activities.
Odo nla, Odogunyan: Notorious for cult clashes, armed robbery and kidnappings.
Adamo: Known for civil unrest, cult activities and kidnappings.
Ita-Oluwo, Ogijo (an outskirt of Ikorodu): Notorious for pipeline vandalism, cultism, rape, bag snatching, kidnapping and civil unrest.
Italewa: Known for cult-related offences.
Ladega: Notorious for spontaneous civil unrest.

The fast developments experienced in Ikorodu has exposed it, thereby making it danger-prone with the activities of men of the underworld who prey on unsuspecting victims in the area. Therefore, it is advised that anybody doing business or visiting these places and others not mentioned above make sure they are always at alert.

Politics / Nigerian Children Not For Sale, Osinbajo Warns Traffickers by Nwaforj44: 2:23am On Aug 02, 2019
The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, has warned human traffickers in the country to desist from such illicit trade, noting that Nigerian children are not for sale.

Osinbajo called on the private sector to collaborate with the Federal Government in curbing the menace of human trafficking.

The wife of the Vice-President said this on Thursday in Abuja while opening a re-modelled shelter of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters, as part of the activities lined up for the 2019 World Day Against Human Trafficking.

Osinbajo said, “Our children are not for sale; they are precious and special to us. The sensitisation must go down to the grassroots in all our local languages so that people can easily understand the message and become less vulnerable.

“Sheltering is a key component in the fight against human trafficking. It provides stability and helps to ensure adequate reception for survivors.”

The NAPTIP Director General, Julie Okah-Donli, who said Nigeria was a signatory to the Human Trafficking Protocol, noted that there was a need to ensure that survivors of the crime were accorded a special place in the programme of activities.

She said, “The crime of human trafficking has become a global concern as it has recently been rated as the third largest illicit trade after arms and drugs’ smuggling. Therefore, the international community has realised the need to tame the ugly trend with a concerted approach.”

Meanwhile, NAPTIP has said one of the drawbacks of the Almajiri system is that it exposes children to human traffickers for recruitment.

The agency said the Almajiri system was one of the cultural and traditional practices fuelling human trafficking. It noted that there were about seven million Almajiris going by statistics from the National Council for the Welfare of the Destitute.

The NAPTIP stated this in its Nigeria Country Report on Human Trafficking 2019, obtained by our correspondent.

The anti-trafficking agency said, “The Almajiri system of education is practised in the North whereby parents give their children to religious scholars. The Almajiri system has come with its drawbacks because the number of children under the care of a scholar is such that it becomes difficult to cater to and feed them.

“This results in these children begging for alms on the streets and exposing them to human traffickers for recruitment. A report by the National Council for the Welfare of the Destitute approximates the number of current Almajiri to seven million.”

Politics / Fuel Scarcity Looms As NUPENG Issues 7-day Ultimatum by Nwaforj44: 9:31am On Aug 01, 2019
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, on Wednesday, issued a seven-day strike notice to the Federal Government.

NUPENG wants the President Muhammadu Buhari government to compel Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL, to honour the agreement it reached with the union on June 20.

It said that failing to comply, the union would direct its members to commence strike action.

NUPENG made the demand in a statement signed by its President and General Secretary, Prince Williams Akporeha and Afolabi Olawale respectively.

The union said, “NUPENG, with deep frustration and worries, would like to alert the general public and all relevant authorities of the blatant violation of agreement reached between Chevron Nigeria Limited Company and unions in the industry.

“It is public knowledge that unions in the oil and gas industry had a protracted negotiation with Chevron Nigeria Limited over 70 per cent labour manpower reduction which it (Chevron) claimed was required in view of reduction in their operations in the oil and gas Industry.

“After up to one year negotiation, brokered by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC; National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS, and Ministry of Labour, it was agreed that considering the intervention of all the institutions mentioned above and the various justifications made, only 30 per centof the Labour Manpower Contract Workers will be relieved.

“Of the 1,856 contract workers in the company, NUPENG has 1,120; PENGASSAN, 213; and non-unionised, 523. It was agreed that the 30% reduction shall be spread in equal percentage among the three groups.

“It was also agreed that union executives (NUPENG and PENGASSAN) will not be affected by the reduction, that Chevron Nigeria Limited will not in any guise change the Labour manpower to service contracts.

‘’It was also agreed that anyone that voluntarily offers to go will be counted as part of the agreed 30%. Unfortunately, immediately after the agreement was reached, Chevron started executing the exercise in blatant violation of the agreed terms, ostensibly to either put NUPENG in bad light as troublesome or for extinction because only NUPENG members have been exited from work, leaving behind the Non- Unionised workers and PENGASSAN members.

‘’It is further embarrassing to see that NUPENG executives are also part of those already locked out. From our record, over 500 of NUPENG members are being sacked. We further learned that the intention of Chevron is to change the contract to short term service contract and we see this as unfair and a breach of agreement reached with us in bad faith.

“All NUPENG executives should be called back to work, the percentage of reduction agreed should be spread to the three groups as agreed to avoid creating the impression that NUPENG was the target of the exercise.

“The good disposition of the new leadership of NUPENG should not be taken for granted. Chevron should not be allowed to use this exercise to change the Labour Manpower contract to service contract in a disguised manner. “Consequent on the above demands and having been pushed to the wall, NUPENG, hereby, puts all our members on red alert should Chevron Nigeria Limited and its contractors fail to honour or comply with our demands within the next seven days, we would also not hesitate to take all necessary legal options available to us, including industrial actions, to press home our legitimate demands.”

Politics / Magu Laments Obstacles In Repatriation Of Stolen Funds, Appeals For Cooperation by Nwaforj44: 4:06am On Jul 27, 2019
The Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has lamented the difficulties being experienced in the repatriation of stolen assets traced to foreign countries.

Magu who expressed the concern yesterday at the EFCC Head Office, Jabi, Abuja, during a visit by Dr. Joe Abah, Country Director of DAI Nigeria, an international development firm implementing programs covering governance, in more than 100 countries worldwide, made a clarion call on international law enforcement agencies to assist the agency in this regard.

“The process of repatriating monies stashed abroad has been very frustrating and disappointing, yet we have done everything possible, gone out of our way to encourage our sister agencies, but cooperation is almost nil,” he said.

He added that the agency has been investigating a number of cases for over four years, working with the Federal Bureau of Investigations, National Crimes Agency and even the Crown Prosecution Service, doing everything possible and going out of its way to encourage sister agencies, but except there is a third party involved there is no cooperation.

Singling out the Swiss as being more cooperative than others, Magu observed that the others never disclose their findings, and are very reluctant to get the proceeds repatriated. “We are willing to go outside this country to give evidence, and to share the intelligence that we have,” he stressed.

Noting that President Muhammadu Buhari has remained unwavering in his vision and mission of ensuring victory in the anti-corruption crusade, he promised to be more daring in the next level of the corruption fight, given the political will the agency currently enjoys.

He further noted the importance of inter-agency collaboration between the EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Fraud Offences Commission, ICPC, the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, and the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, FRC, stressing that multi-agency collaboration was key to winning the corruption war.

Noting that the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA 2015 has been “very helpful”, he however lamented that majority of the people in the judiciary are not doing well. “But a few of them are, and we use to have dialogue with them to share our experience, and this has been very helpful,” he said, adding that from January till date, the EFCC has secured about 550 convictions.

While commending the MacArthur Foundation and the DAI for their support of the anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria, he called for more support for the agency in all possible areas.

Politics / El-zakzaky: Stop Lawlessness, Face Trial, Buhari Tells Shiites by Nwaforj44: 6:52am On Jul 20, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday warned members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites, to desist from needless violent, street protests and await the decision of the court. The group’s leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, is currently standing trial in Kaduna State.

President Buhari declared that no government anywhere would tolerate any group taking over public roads and interfere with the rights of other citizens.

“The issue of El-ZakZaky is before the court in Kaduna and his supporters should focus on his on-going trial instead of causing daily damages, disruptions and public nuisance in Abuja.

“It is wrong to be in court and resort to violence at the same time in order to get justice for anybody accused,” the President said in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu yesterday.

He said, “the destruction of public property in the name of protest is not within the right of this group of Shiite members and no government anywhere would have tolerated a situation where any group would take over public roads in cities as they have done in Abuja and interfere with the rights of other citizens who are prevented from reaching their destinations.

“We imagine a situation where families are taking their loved ones to hospital for emergency treatment and they are held up needlessly by the protesters. No government anywhere in the world would turn a blind eye to this unlawful behaviour.

“As far as this country’s Ministry of Justice is concerned, the case involving El-Zakzaky is no longer in its domain. The Federal Government no more has hands in the matter and to that extent, the government at the centre can be said to be clear of any alleged violations of court orders as being trumpeted everyday.

“These rallies and street dances ostensibly to openly insult the President and other leaders, threatening bloodshed will lead nowhere because President Buhari will not ask the country’s judiciary to abandon due process and set a suspect free. At the same time, the administration is determined to enforce the decision of the court clearly issued. The Buhari administration has absolutely no hand in the on-going court case and the courts are free to determine the bail request and the final outcome.

“The mentality that you are above the law and that your own rights are superior to other people’s rights is unacceptable.

“You can’t be provoking other citizens by interfering with their own rights on public roads and disrupting their businesses and call it democratic freedom. In democratic traditions, their rights end where the rights of others begin.

“Law abiding citizens must avoid deliberate lawlessness. It is not within the rights of any group to enter protected public institutions such as the National Assembly by force to attack police and destroy public and private property.

“It is always advisable to embrace dialogue and eschew violence in all our actions so that we can continue to live together in peace.

“We therefore appeal to the Shiite group to stop deliberate provocations that result in violence and fatalities and allow the trial of El-ZakZaky to take its course.”

Religion / Daddy Freeze To MFM: Praying For Your Enemies To Die Is Anti-christ Doctrine by Nwaforj44: 2:09am On Jul 18, 2019
Critic, Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze has attacked Mountain of Fire Ministries, MFM, for praying that their enemies should die, saying such prayer is Anti-Christ doctrine.

Daddy Freeze, on his Instagram page on Wednesday said the prayer being prayed by MFM members for their enemies to die was unscriptural.

He wrote: “Dear MFM, kindly consider the following scriptures before your next prayer session. Please if you pray for your member’s enemies to die, STOP IT!

“Instead, teach your congregation to pray for their enemies to prosper and encourage them to lend their enemies money whenever they need it, expecting nothing in return, as Christ instructed us to.

“Anything outside this is an Antichrist doctrine!”

Daddy Freeze quoted several Bible passages to buttress his points, one of which was Luke 6:27,28, which read: “But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.”

He added Luke 6:35, which reads: “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

Politics / NGO Trains 528 Youths On Vocational Skills In Ondo by Nwaforj44: 2:05pm On Jul 17, 2019
No fewer than 528 youths are being trained in different vocational skills in Akure, Ondo State capital, by Artisan Headquarters, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO).

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the skill acquisition, which is in collaboration with some federal agencies and artisan associations, is to train the selected youths in different skills free of charge.

Flagging off the programme on Wednesday, Mr Ilesanmi Ade-Ademola, Co-Founder of the organisation, said arrangement had been made with some artisan volunteers to train the youths free for four months.

“We have reached agreement with artisans, cutting across different skills, to train the youths who showed interest free after we had sent out notice to the public.

“Investigations have revealed that most youths are willing to acquire skills in various vocations, but they could not afford the fees charged by the trainers.

“So, we have found a way of assisting them by taking off the fees.

‘The turnout was huge, but we could only accommodate this number due to paucity of fund and other logistics problems,” he said.

Ade-Ademola said that the organisation had concluded plans to retrain the trainers by introducing them to new innovations in their various businesses such as new discoveries that would enhance their operations.

“For instance, mechanics among them, would be trained on how to use diagnostic machines among other innovations. We are also registering company names of some of the artisans free,” Ade-Ademola said.

Mr Tunji Ariyomo, the Special Adviser on Energy to Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, while commending the ogarnisers, noted that “the micro-economic input would define economic and industrial trajectory of the country.”

Ariyomo, who promised to sponsor 10 participants, implored all beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunities provided by the training, noting that entrepreneurs constituted the base of development of any nation.

“As you’re going into entrepreneurship, learn presentation and your appearance will make a difference.

“Be cool-headed, creative, smart, patience, abide by the law and be friendly with your customers.

“You should know that our population is an added advantage for entrepreneurial base,” Ariyomo said.

Hon. Toluwani Borokini, a lawmaker representing Akure South Constituency I at the Ondo State House of Assembly, also lauded the organisers, describing the initiative as the best way to reduce poverty in the country.

Borokini promised to buy start-up tools for at least 55 participants after the completion of the training.

The lawmaker enjoined the participants to seize the opportunity being offered by the NGO, saying they would not only become self-employed after the training, but employers of labour as well.

The state Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr Dotun Owanikin, also described the skill acquisition programme as laudable.

Owanikin said that the Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration “is fully committed to various programmes designed to train the youths in the state”.

He advised the participants to take the training seriously and learn it responsibly.

“You should all see the training as a path to finding a sustainable way of making a living by acquiring skills and challenging gender norms, especially the female among you.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Arewa Dickson, thanked the organisers for the opportunities offered them, saying she had been eager to learn fashion designing but could not afford the outrageous fee being charged.

Dickson pledged that she would make maximum use of the offer.

Politics / Gov. Ikpeazu Inaugurates 2019 National Farming Season by Nwaforj44: 4:42am On Jul 17, 2019
Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Tuesday inaugurated the official commencement of the 2019 National Farming Season.

Speaking at the event at the International Conference Center, Umuahia, Ikpeazu underscored the relevance of agriculture in the nation’s economic development.

The event with the theme, “Agricultural Financing: A panacea for sustainable national development,” was organised by the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Abia government.

The governor said that agriculture had the capacity to provide solutions to the challenges facing the country, including unemployment and lack of industrialisation.

He further said that any state that was serious about developing its population and achieving sustainable growth must find a way to mainstream agriculture.

He said, “Our major problem in agriculture is that our practice is rustic, we lack the ability to comprehend the imperatives of agribusiness and we practice agriculture as a pastime.”

Ikpeazu charged stakeholders to enhance their interest in agriculture and take full advantage of the various governments platforms provided to reposition agriculture as a major foreign exchange earner.

In his address, Mr Kabir Adamu, the Managing Director of BOA, said that Federal Government was committed to reposition agriculture in order to diversify and grow the nation’s economy.

Adamu, who was represented by Prof. Gideon Okenwa, said that BOA had established channels to boost local production of food, revive rural economy and eliminate Nigeria’s dependence on food importation.

He said that Nigeria had huge agricultural potential with about 84 million hectares of land, abundant water ways, favourable weather and a variety of agro-economy suitable for agriculture.

“In its attempt to meet expectations, the bank has engaged a number of strategic alignments with local and foreign partners to kick start federal government’s transformation.

“Integrated Information Technology platforms have been introduced to make rural finance services easily accessible and eliminating drudgery throughout the transaction.

“The Bank is focused on encouraging the adoption of modern farming techniques among farmers through sensitisation workshops aimed at capacity building for farmers,” Adamu said.

In her address of welcome, Mrs Uzoamaka Ikonne, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture in Abia, said that the occasion provided an opportunity for farmers to be educated about government’s agricultural programmes and policies.

Ikonne said that she was confident that the outcome of the event would make positive impact on the agriculture sector and the nation’s economy.

Earlier, Christopher Emerole, a professor in agriculture at the Umuahia Campus of the Abia State University, Uturu and resource person at the event, said that “the growth potential of Agriculture can be best explored when government injects funds into the sector.”

Emerole said, “It is important to promote the inclusion of farmers in the process of formulating and executing agricultural programmes and policies at all levels of government.”

News Agency of Nigeria reports that major highlights of the event included lecture presentation, disbursement of loans to some farmers’ groups, display of agricultural products and planting of palm seedlings.

Business / Stock Market Struggles As Index Slips 0.79% by Nwaforj44: 4:04am On Jul 16, 2019
Sustained sell pressures took the centre stage at Monday’s trading session on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange as losses in the shares of Dangote Cement, GT Bank and MTNN, dragged the All Share Index (ASI) southwards by 0.79 per cent to close at 28,341.03 points.

Year-to-Date (YTD) loss worsened to -9.8 per cent while investors lost over N110 billion as market capitalisation fell to N13.812 trillion.

Activity level strengthened as volume and value traded advanced 74.5 and 46.9 per cent to 175.16 million units and N2.14 billion, respectively in 3,111 deals.

Reacting to the development investment research analyst at Afrinvest, Adedayo Bakare, said foreign investors are focusing on the debt market rather than equities market because the macroeconomic environment remains weak.

He said, “Companies’ earnings have not been that spectacular as the investors are still looking forward to the quality of the cabinet the President is yet to constitute. Already, H1 earnings as well as global conditions remain favourable, so for the rest of the week, we still expect the bearish run to continue. Nevertheless, we expect the release of half year corporate results and bargain hunting opportunities to drive activities in the market”.

Meanwhile, investor sentiment as measured by market breadth was negative as 21 stocks depreciated in value while 10 others appreciated. Chip Plc topped the losers’ chart with 9.09 per cent to close at 0.30 kobo per share, Sovereign Insurance followed with 8.70 per cent to close at 0.21 kobo, Courtville fell by 8.33 per cent to close at 0.22 kobo while Chams and Total declined by 7.14 per cent to close at 0.26 kobo and N130 respectively.

Politics / Stop Playing Politics With Olakunrin’s Death- Presidency To Obasanjo, Others by Nwaforj44: 3:35am On Jul 16, 2019
The Presidency has appealed to those playing politics by capitalising on the killing of Mrs Funke Olakunrin in Ondo state, to stop it.

In a strong statement issued Monday night by Garba Shehu, the SSA Media, the Buhari government said: “Times of tragedy like these are not the time for politics. It reveals only disrespect for the departed and her family. And we hope that those who stand in positions of influence recognise and understand this”.

Although the statement did not identify those who have been exploiting the tragedy to hit the Buhari administration, in the last 72 hours some critical remarks have been credited to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Professor Wole Soyinka, Pastor Tunde Bakare, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and a host social media commentators, with sympathy for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

On Monday, Obasanjo penned another letter in his series to President Buhari, using the tragedy as anchor and warning that the nation is at the precipice, “dangerously reaching a tipping point where it may no longer be possible to hold danger at bay”.

In the statement issued by the presidency on Monday night, government made a pointed appeal to the critics and appealed for national unity.

“It is incumbent on all leaders across the country to consider their language and its potential consequences. Insecurity is an issue that Nigeria must face together as one nation – united”.

The statement noted public concerns on the unfortunate attack and recalled the concern of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

“The President has already issued a statement expressing his heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs Funke Olakunri and followed up with a telephone call.

“The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has in addition, paid a visit to the grieving family in Akure, Ondo State.

“Her death is a tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family”, it said.

Celebrities / Beyoncé, Jay Z Meet Meghan And Harry At ‘the Lion King’ Premiere In London by Nwaforj44: 1:45pm On Jul 15, 2019
Two forms of royalty collided as American singer and actress, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and her husband Jay Z met The Duke and Meghan Markle and her husband, Duke of Sussex at the European premiere of The Lion King in London’s Leicester Square.

Beyoncé and Meghan Markle were introduced during the premiere of the movie where they embraced and chatted as their husbands Prince Harry and Jay Z also enjoyed one another’s company.

The “Crazy in Love” singer, who voices the character of Nala in the new Disney film, was beaming with excitement over meeting the royal.

This marks the first time the former actress hits the red carpet as a royal, just two and a half months after giving birth to her first child Archie, where she and Harry led a star-studded line-up as they attended the movie premiere.

So as the royals walked to the entrance of the cinema greeting fans, Beyonce and Jay-Z were forced to make a hasty arrival via a side entrance in order to be in position for the meet and greet – to the disappointment of some fans.

While they had not met before, Beyonce paid homage to Meghan earlier this year at the Brit Awards.

Inside the Odeon cinema, Meghan greeted Beyonce warmly, the two women hugging each other like old friends.

The singer, dressed in a daring yellow evening gown split to the thigh, rubbed Meghan on the back as the pair continued to embrace for several seconds.

They then held hands and chatted intently as Jay-Z looked on.

There was also a big hug from the duchess for the rapper who congratulated her, presumably on the birth of baby Archie.

“The baby, so beautiful,” cooed Beyonce. “We love you guys.”

Meghan then turned to introduce her husband, dressed in a dashing tuxedo, who greeted Beyonce with a kiss on each cheek and Jay-Z with a handshake.

“You’ve been rather busy,” said Harry to Beyonce.

“Congratulations on the birth of your baby,” Jay-Z said to the prince, and nodded towards Meghan.

“Wow, that’s pretty intense.

“And how are the twins,” asked the prince, in reference to their children, Rumi and Sir, born in 2017.

“They are not here. They don’t come on every trip,” replied Beyonce.

“We left them at home. They would loved to have been here.”

Jay-Z added: “The best advice I can give you, always find come time for yourself.”

The premiere is being held in support of the conservation and communities work undertaken by Harry through his new charitable foundation.

For the time being, the funds will be channeled through The Royal Foundation, which the duke operates in conjunction with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan.

In celebration of the hugely-anticipated film’s release, Disney has announced Protect the Pride, a global campaign working with conservation partners to raise awareness and support efforts to protect and recover the dwindling lion population across Africa.

Since The Lion King was first released 25 years ago, half of Africa’s lions have disappeared.

Lions face rising threats such as poaching, loss of prey and destruction of habitats.

However, research shows the lion population can recover and the Royal Foundation is supporting Protect the Pride.

Harry has long had an interest in conservation issues on the African continent and on leaving the Army in 2015 spent three months working on the number of such projects in Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa and Botswana.

He is now president of African Parks and Patron of Rhino Conservation Botswana.

Harry, Meghan and Archie will go on an official visit to South Africa this autumn. The duke will also visit Angola and Malawi.

After Sunday’s premiere, Harry and Meghan were set to meet representatives from organisations doing ground-breaking work in the areas of conservation and the environment.

Celebrities / My Husband And I Don’t Mix Business With Pleasure – Joke Silva by Nwaforj44: 6:33am On Jul 14, 2019
Widely regarded as the golden couple of Nigeria’s film industry, Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs have won the admiration of many with their union which has endured over the years. In an industry where marriages regularly crash at the drop of a hat, it is indeed commendable that the couple is still waxing stronger in love after 36 years. During the week, Jacobs celebrated his seventy-seventh birthday and his wife melted the hearts of many with the lovely message she sent to him on the day.

Asked to identify the factors responsible for the success of their marriage, Silva told Sunday Scoop, “It’s not as if ours is better than anybody else; just that we are in the public eye. However, it is by God’s grace to have a very good friend in the person you marry. And we try our best, as humanly possible, to be honest with each other. This means that when one is upset with each other, one lets the other person know. It is majorly all about friendship; I really don’t know how to articulate it.”

The couple has played onscreen lovers in several films but one that resonates is the movie, The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, in which they couldn’t seem to get their hands off each other. Asked whether those characters bore any semblance to their real lives, Silva said, “I don’t know about being all over each other but we are very close.”

Silva also noted that the couple never mixed business with pleasure. She added, “Of course, there has to be a separation (between work and home). We don’t mix business with pleasure. There is a difference between our lives in movies and our lives at home. Work is fiction even though we try to pass real messages across. At home, we are faced with real life issues such as diesel in the generator, home helps, doctor’s appointments and other things.”

Sparing some advice for young entertainers, especially those who married within the industry, Silva said, “I find it very difficult to give people advice because we all have different situations. But something that always works is patience. And as much as possible, try to be honest with each other. However, it is honesty that is not cruel. You have to understand that there is cruel and wicked honesty, and loving honesty as well. It doesn’t mean you wouldn’t get angry, but you don’t have to cross the line of getting violent. Violence is not only physical; it can also be emotional. However, at the end of the day, the most important factor is God. I am happy that we have weathered our storms over the years in our 36 years of marriage. I am not sure I would have said the same thing I’m saying now 20 years ago. Perhaps, then, I could have asked his people to come and carry him and take him to wherever they wanted.”

Politics / Ensure Transparent Remittances To FAAC, Govs Urge Mele Kyari by Nwaforj44: 6:11am On Jul 11, 2019
Governors of the 36 states of the federation under the aegis of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) yesterday told Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari, to ensure the continued implementation of earlier agreements reached with President Muhammadu Buhari on transparent remittances to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).

The governors, at a meeting in Abuja with Kyari, said the maintenance of the agreements was imperative for transparency, accountability and to serve as buffers from fiscal shocks for states.

Over the years, the governors have had a running battle with successive leadership of the NNPC over alleged under-remittances to FAAC, leading to the storms at FAAC meetings where statutory revenues from the Federation Account are shared among the three tiers of government, federal, states and local governments.

On some occasions, the president had to intervene to calm frayed nerves. Such interventions have led to agreements between the parties on how remittances should be made to the Federation Account by NNPC, which collects revenues from oil sales and oil royalties on behalf of the federation.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who doubles as the NGF chairman, also pushed for some accountability measures during the meeting just as he called for a review of the current fuel subsidy regime.

He said: “Working with Mr. President, we had resolved that the collection and remittance of oil royalties should be returned to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) as stipulated under the Petroleum Industry Law. Similarly, the collection and remittance of the Petroleum Profit Tax (PPT) should be returned to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in line with extant laws.

“It was in this vein that Mr. President directed that a revised revenue remittance template should be developed jointly by NNPC, the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

“Going forward, a major direction for the forum is to identify options that will help stabilise revenues from oil. We need to consider options to determine a ‘revenue trend’ that corresponds to the long-term trend of exports and that will be enough to stabilise government budgets.”

He said in 2017, the then minister of finance had estimated that a minimum amount of N700 billion must be generated and shared by FAAC monthly to the three tiers of government to enable them to meet up with their obligations of salary payment, statutory transfers and debt servicing.

“We would like our team to work with the corporation to develop a realistic revenue forecasting model for oil revenues. This will help state governments plan appropriately to mitigate, to a large extent, the recurring fiscal shocks we experience.

“It is also important to highlight that subsidy remains a major drawback on government revenues. We may need to consider a new deal on how governments will absorb the cost of subsidy. This has become necessary given the new reality of low oil revenues and rising government commitments.

“We believe that at the current course, subsidy costs will continue to offset any recovery in the oil market. The country recorded one of its lowest cost of subsidy in 2016 when oil traded at an average of $48.11 per barrel. Total subsidy that year was around N28.6 billion; but the amount rose to N219 billion in 2017 and N345.5 billion by mid-2018, as the price of oil and domestic petrol consumption rebounded,” the governor added.

According to Fayemi, these are important considerations for the governors as they have direct implications on energy security and economic stability in the country.

He said NGF partnership with NNPC remained critical to it because it was integral to the fiscal stability of both the federal and sub-national governments, given the central role oil revenues play in funding budgets.
“The growth and stability of the oil industry has a significant bearing on our plans – we have recorded a period where monthly allocation from the FAAC reached as high as N1.1 trillion (June 2014), and in another month in May 2016, the three tiers of government shared just over N289 billion.

“Besides the fall in oil price and production, some of the challenges that have compounded instability in the market include the impact of cash call obligations and the accumulation of liabilities; crude oil theft/losses with about 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day lost to oil theft, while about 500,000 barrels per day is deferred in production shut-ins; and the existing regulation for Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), which grossly limits government royalties and tax revenues. These are ongoing issues we must work to resolve,” the NGF chairman stated.

In his response, Kyari pledged a continued cooperation with the governors as well as increased revenue for the country.

Politics / Plateau Central Senatorial Election Credible, Witness Tells Tribunal by Nwaforj44: 6:50pm On Jul 08, 2019
A star witness of the senator representing Plateau Central in the National Assembly, Evangelist Samuel Mbok, on Monday told the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos that the election of Sen. Hezekiah Dimka was free, fair, credible and a true reflection of the wishes of the people.

Evangelist Mbok disclosed this at the tribunal when he was under cross-examination by counsel to INEC, Sunday Obende and counsel to the petitioner, Sunday Oyawole.

Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Nde David Paradang, had dragged Nde Hezekiah Dimka to the tribunal, accusing him of rigging the election.

But, Evangelist Mbok, a serving Deputy Chairman of Pankshin Local Government Area who was a collation agent of the APC for Pankshin Local Government Area as well as a returning officer for Senator Hezekiah Dimka in the said election told the tribunal that the election was not rigged and that they were the votes cast by the electorate that were declared by INEC.

“The results collated and announced by the electoral umpire in the senatorial election of which I was featured prominently in the process is a true reflection of the wishes of the electorate and by that, the election was free, fair and credible.”

Evangelist Mbok further confirmed his deposed statement by identifying all the documents showed to him by lawyers of all parties in the suit to include some unit results, even though he consented to the fact that he was merely at his polling unit during the election.

The witness also confirmed that he had nothing to do with forms EC 40 G one which is a complaint form that is handled by INEC officials neither did he see any party agent filling any, adding that in his capacity, he received results from ward collation agents of the APC and not unit collation agents.

Counsel to the petitioner, Sunday Oyawole, showed the witness results sheets both original and duplicate for some wards and units in Kanam LGA which were for Jom, Sabon Layi, and Mbat Dapshi which there were cancellations and over voting were said to have taken place including areas like Zakam Pada, Tapsar Furyam and Munbutbwo.

Sunday Oyawole and Sunday Obende both applied to tender some documents from the bar; the document from Obende was for Takar in Daffo, Bokkos LGA, while that for Oyawole were those for Gagdi, Kantana, Munbutbwo, Jom and Gwamlar of which the tribunal admitted in evidence.

The documents were result sheets for those polling units and wards. After the cross examination of the witness, the tribunal adjourned sitting to August 1 2019, for adoption of final written addresses in compliance with the electoral law first schedule.

Politics / Boko Haram Releases NYSC Member, 4 Others by Nwaforj44: 12:59pm On Jul 08, 2019
Boko Haram has reportedly set free a female youth corps member (namewithheld) held hostage since January.

Also said to have been released were four other females with the following ages (22 years, 14 years, 15 years and 21 years, all held in captivity since 2017.

Their release were said to have been facilitated on Sunday by Hajiya Aisha Wakil (popular known as Mama Boko Haram).

According to the media aide of Mama Boko and the Country Director of her Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Complete Care Foundation. Prince Lawal Shoyode, Hajiya Wakil swung into action on appeal from the sister of the youth corps members (Hadiza Umaru).

Shoyode said they were released without the payment of any ransom.

He said: “It was the sister of the corper, her name (withheld). that called mama (Hajiya Wakil) and mama said she should send her picture. she then sent her picture to Boko Haram pleading for her release.

“The Boko Haram then released her with four others about six hours after they received appeal from Mama.”

Shoyode who was unhappy with the treatment melted out on the released females, said: “They were sexually abused, they passed them round to each other for sexual satisfaction.

“The women were given annal sex….
“They didn’t bath for many days, it was the wife of commander that were given the privilege of bathing daily, and it was only when one of the commanders want to use them (have sex with them), he will ask them to bath with little water at interval of six hours.”

He said Mama Boko Haram had however appealed to them to release other females in captivity, especially Leah Sharibu.

She also asked them to drop their arms and surrender to the Nigerian Army.

Politics / Nigeria’s Zero Oil Plan Targets $150bn Revenue, Says Awolowo by Nwaforj44: 9:03pm On Jul 07, 2019
The Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council ( NEPC), Mr Segun Awolowo, says plans are on by the Council to raise 150 billion dollars revenue from sources outside the nation’s oil sector in the next 15 years.

Awolowo stated this when he briefed State House Correspondents on the outcome of his closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

According to him, the zero oil plan is about raising production and productivity; already the Council has identified 22 sectors where Nigeria can earn foreign exchange apart from oil.

He said: ”We are hoping that in the next 10 -15 years we will be able to raise 150 billion dollars from sources outside oil.

”That is what we are working on and we are galvanizing the whole states behind us in other to raise production and productivity.

”We are working with the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to achieve this.

”You know the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) just announced an initiative on five of our products and giving them low interest rates to farm and raise production.”

He identified cocoa, sheer nut and cashew as some none oil revenue-making commodities in the country.

According to him, Cocoa is an immediate win for us because, it’s been our number one none oil revenue making.

”But we are on less than 300,000 metric tons, Ghana is heading to 900,000, Cote d’ Ivoire almost two million metric.

”So, how do we compete? Meanwhile if you see the landmass in Nigeria you can imagine what we can do.

”Another sector is sheer nut, cashew is another breadwinner for us. So, let’s raise production, let’s give our farmers low interest loan so that they can raise production for us.

”We are also looking at value addition for all because that is the way you create jobs, we cannot continue to sell the raw materials.

”I was happy to present to Mr. President some tomatoes and Bell peppers from a green house in Benin.

”I also presented to him Casanovas, which is cassava chips which a cottage industry is producing in Idu Industrial Estate, that is already being exported to Germany. And that is the future for Nigeria. We are about to enter into.”

On packaging and substandard products, Awolowo stated that even though the country is facing few challenges, its products meant for exports were no longer substandard.

According to him, our products are no longer substandard and we are exporting all over West Africa and Inter-land Africa.

”We have a few challenges here and there but I always tell people, the journey of processing raw materials to producing goods is not going to happen over night. We are going to have rejects but we will not succumb to them.

”Our packaging is improving and we are even packaging and labeling in different languages so we can get into those markets, particularly when Africa opens up for us now,” he added.

On President’s response, Awolowo revealed that ”the president was very pleased, he promised to give continuous support for this export.

”I thank him that we have paid the backlogs on the export expansion grant, that is an incentive that we give to exporters.

”We owed them for several years but we have reversed the whole system and the president approved the payment of the backlog of N350 billion to pay them.

Politics / NGO Takes Campaign Against Drugs To Motorcyclist, Traders by Nwaforj44: 5:43am On Jul 07, 2019
Bridge and Bond Development Initiative, an NGO, on Saturday cautioned motorcyclists and petty traders on the dangers associated with abuse of drugs and substances.

The Lead Director of the NGO, Mr Festus Onifade said this during a sensitisation awareness campaign walk against drug and substance abuse in Lugbe suburb in Abuja.

Onifade said drug abuse was one of the top problems confronting the nation especially among the youths, saying incidences of drug abuse and related anti-social behaviour have tremendously increased in recent years.

“The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with National Agency for Food Drugs and Administration (NAFDAC) must put in place more punitive measures to check the proliferation of drugs in the country.

“In addition, another way to eradicate drug abuse in the country is to educate parents, especially women, on the dangers of youths engaging in such acts because through parents, children will no doubt learn early enough to steer clear of drug abuse.

“This has become a matter of concern to the government, parents, teachers, Non-Governmental Organisations and all other relevant agencies,” Onifade said.

He said the campaign against drug and substance abuse should be done regularly, saying that it would serve as a reminder to those in the communities.

“The choice of Lugbe for sensitisation is strategic to us, as our attention is more on the `Okada riders’ (motorcyclists) and petty traders.

“About 70 to 80 per cent of those who reside in Lugbe use `Okada’ (motorcycle) as their means of transportation.

“The drug and substance abuse is common among them which increases the rate of crimes and accidents in the community,” Onifade said.

He said the crimes and accidents could be avoided if such people were properly sensitised on the dangers of drug and substance abuse to their health.

Onifade, however, called on government at all levels to invest and be more committed to community outreaches to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse users in the country.

He said many of the youth in the country need proper monitoring by their parents and guardians as well as avoidance of children hawking, adding that family values had been eroded due to the embrace of western culture.

The Public Relations Officers(PRO) of the NGO, Mr Biodun Adeleke said drug abuse was a platform in which crime was been committed, adding that more still needs to be done.

Politics / Gov Poll: We Accept Supreme Court Verdict, Says Osun PDP by Nwaforj44: 3:23pm On Jul 05, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has said it has accepted the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Governor Gboyega Oyetola as the winner of the September 2018 governorship election in the state.

Mr Soji Adagunodo, the State PDP Chairman, in a telephone interview with News Agency of Nigeria in Osogbo said since the Supreme Court was the apex court in the land, the party could not appeal the decision.

NAN reports that the Supreme Court in a split judgment of five-to-two on Friday upheld the election of Oyetola.

Adagunodo said the minority judgment dealt with the constitutional issue of the matter, which according to him, was the most important while the majority judgment dealt with the technical issues.

“Since the Supreme Court is the highest court in the land, we don’t have anything to say than to accept the verdict.

“The judgment is a split judgment.

“The majority judgment dealt with technical matter and we expected the judges to have called for the file of the lower court.

“Meanwhile, the majority judgment dealt with a constitutional matter which is important to our democracy.

“The court has ruled and we don’t have anything to say than to accept the verdict since there is nowhere to go again,’’ Adagunodo said.

He, however, appealed to party members to be calm and peaceful.

Politics / Imo: Ihedioha Reiterates Plans For Credible LG Polls by Nwaforj44: 7:38am On Jul 05, 2019
Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has insisted that local government election must hold in the next six months as promised.

Governor Ihedioha reiterated this during the swearing in of chairmen and members of Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) boards, special advisers and permanent secretaries at the Sam Mbakwe Exco Chambers, yesterday.

The governor said he promised on assumption of office to strengthen existing institutional frameworks through good governance and community mobilisation and therefore, tasked the newly sworn in commissioners to correct anomalies of the past and restore confidence and hope of Imo people in government.

“We are coming at a time our state had gone through trying times. The task before us is to correct the anomalies of the past and restore confidence and hope of Imo people in government.

“It is a time to recover lost grounds and take our pride of place again in scheme of national development. Your appointment, respectively, is a call to duty and not an invitation for celebration.

“I believe that ISIEC and ISOPADEC will play great roles in the operation to revive our state. While ISIEC will be expected to put a machinery in motion for a free and fair election in local governments, in a no distant time, ISOPADEC is charged to drive rural infrastructural development as well as provisions of social and public amenities to the state especially in the oil producing communities.

“I need to remind you that for ISOPADEC, you will not function in breach of the laws of our state. To ISIEC, I clearly stated on June 18, during the inauguration of the Local Government Area Interim Committee that local government elections must hold within six months.

“I still maintain my position that election should hold in six months time, you have no time left as you must give 150 days notice of election as required by the Electoral Act.”

ISIEC Chairman, Julius Onyenaucheya, responded on behalf of others, and promised that ISIEC would conduct the freest and fairest election ever witnessed in the state and pledged the loyalty and cooperation of all appointees to the present administration and the rebuilding process.

Politics / Ohanaeze Youth, MASSOB Vow To Resist RUGA In Souh East by Nwaforj44: 7:22pm On Jul 03, 2019
The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has vowed to resist any attempt by any group or individual to forcefully implement the Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlement in the South East.

Speaking to our correspondent in Owerri, National President of OYC, Igboayaka O Igboayaka, noted that Igbo youths were ready to do everything it takes to prevent the implementation of RUGA in the zone.

According to Igboayaka “those asking for RUGA settlement across the federation are indirectly asking President Muhammadu Buhari to do declare war in the country, and over 30 million Igbo youths will not fold their arms; we will do everything possible to resist them.

“They cannot use RUGA in disguise to invade Igbo land; nobody can issue such warning, only insane people who do not care about the current threat to peace in the country can issue such threats.

Igboyaka said that he was presently disappointed with those urging the president to implement the RUGA settlement across the nation, maintaining that its call could only lead Nigeria to break up.

Similarly, Igbo pressure group, the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) has assured that the call for the forceful implementation of RUGA will fail in South East.

Leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, disclosed this to our correspondent in Owerri.

According to him “we will always defend the lives and properties of Ndigbo and Biafrans in general. The islamisation agenda on Nigeria is a reality as forceful establishment of RUGA settlements across the nation is the final onslaught against the entire nation.

“RUGA settlements will act as the platform for the close range domination, terrorising, islamisation and religious killing of the natives. The implementation of RUGA settlements will never see the daylight in Biafra land,” Madu vowed.
