The World’s Largest Single Turbine Geothermal Plant, Kenya’s Olkaria IV geothermal power plant The olkaria IV project is the fourth and largest in a series of geothermal power plants in Kenya’s Eastern Rift Valley. Kenya was the first African country to build and exploit geothermal energy sources. so far 636 MW of electricity comes from geothermal sources a potential of 10 000 MW of geothermal power has been developed. Most is owned by the Kenya Electricity Generating Co. (KenGen)—a company majority-owned by the Kenyan government that produces 80% of Kenya’s power—with the remainder owned by Ormat International subsidiary OrPower 4. Kenya plans to produce the bulk of its electricity from geothermal power. The Olkaria I Units 4 & 5 has also been awarded the “Clean Energy Project of the Year” while KenGen received the “Utility of the Year” Award during the Africa Utility Week in May 2015. potential for geothermal is huge, and Kenya is proudly now among the top 10 countries in geothermal energy production globally and leader in Africa the numerous geothermal plants are spread out in the middle of a wildlife reserve ![]() i have been here myself, very nice place. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1497/23972134432_7cf90d087a_b.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5809/23451888034_437d9d8689_b.jpg https://i.imgur.com/nII8Eht.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5742/23453567513_f3d75ef315_b.jpg . Mombasa- Second largest port in Africa after Durban (south Africa) Kenya's Indian Ocean port of Mombasa, serving Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and the eastern gateway for the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the most important port in East Africa The quantum of goods handled at the Port of Mombasa has increased from 13.28 in 2005 to 26.73 million tonnes in 2016, denoting over 100 per cent growth. Port dwell time, which describes the time that lapses from the time cargo arrives to the time it leaves has reduced from 4.9 days in 2013 to 3.4 days in March 2016. With a quay length of 840 meters, the container terminal can now comfortably take in three of the larger post-Panamax vessels at a go. The biggest game changer at the Port in terms of capacity growth is the Second Container Terminal. Started in 2011, Phase I of the project is now complete and has already been handed to KPA by the contractor. The terminal, which started operations on April 25, brings some 550,000 TEUs into play, increasing the port’s overall capacity to 1.65 million TEUs and making it one of the five biggest ports in Africa. New data showed that the ports operator posted Sh35.6 billion in revenue in the fiscal year 2014/2015 compared to Sh 30.72b the previous years, firming a growth trend since 2010. https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/347/20342714575_0d770d9731_b.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3765/12211568266_06f9346e5d_c.jpg https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16730129_1878837265697662_103617318119549484_n.jpg?oh=d3df23e519af5770d5d4814c96dd86b7&oe=594D596A https://www.4allports.com/images/ports/69/694oi4io4.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3780/19720064104_d2706f6cfc_b.jpg https://www.smartnewskenya.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/An-oil-tanker-discharging-oil-at-the-Kipevu-Oil-Terminal-800x445.jpg https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/16299172_996834293749767_5119263419291248287_n.jpg?oh=63ebf5724bd6ff4f5e3f940c3dbee179&oe=596E9209 https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14317423_1340405775972094_50881382657367270_n.png?oh=0201b26676920d7fab9e4ca9e4797531&oe=59725985 https://scontent-fra3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14022235_10155160120919517_6453927247045448892_n.jpg?oh=04694252ab3c1f95a7fae239b1b22246&oe=596661E4 |

nyangau123:. Turkana wind power project injects first 102MW into the National grid Lake Turkana Wind Power Company has started the injection of an initial 102MW into the national grid. The additional power forms 33 per cent of the total 310MW that the wind power farm has agreed to inject into the national grid by June. On completion, the Marsabit-based firm – the largest wind farm on the continent – aims to produce enough energy to power an additional one million households in the country. Managing Director Phylip Leferink said in a statement yesterday the total cost of the project is estimated at Sh70 billion. He said the firm targets an annual generation capacity of 1.6 billion kilowatt hour (kWh), while the tariff rate would be Sh8.6 per kWh. Technicians working on the 40,000-acre wind farm in Marsabit mounted the final blade on the final turbine of the 365–turbine-project on Friday last week. Currently, Kenya relies heavily on renewables such as geothermal, solar and hydro-power, and thus the discovery of high quality wind sites across the country and the modernised turbine systems, will play a major role in expanding Kenya’s generation capacity. |

Omuse attended the official signing ceremony held at the five-star Kempinski Hotel, Beijing, on 28 February. Also attending the signing ceremony were the Chairman of Hass Petroleum Group, Mr Abdinassir Ali Hassan; Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of White Lotus Inc., Mr Sita Ramachandra Raju Poosapati; Vice President of CSCEC Overseas Operations, Mr Li Mingguang; and Vice President of CSCEC Overseas Operations, Mr Zhang Zhiping. In his speech, Mr Hassan, Hass Group Chairman, described the signing as an ‘historic’ event andcongratulated CSCEC on winning the contract after a long negotiation and tender process. He said: “It has not been an easy road. [CSCEC] went through a rigorous tender system which they won over ten international companies including European, Turkish as well as other Chinese competitors. “Hass Group awarding the contract to CSCEC demonstrates a stronger growing economic partnership between the Chinese government and the Kenyan government, and is a testament to Kenya’s economic and political stability. This project will give CSCEC a majestic entry point into Africa.” Mr Li Mingguang, Vice President of CSCEC Overseas Operations said: “This will be the tallest building in Africa and become a landmark in Kenya. It is sure to drive regional development, promote economic growth, and attract more investment and tourism into Kenya. China State Construction understands the importance of this grand project and is honoured to be chosen as the main contractor.” Construction of the foundations for Hass Towers is due to start in April this year, when the project will officially launch in Kenya. Once complete, the development will include Grade A offices, a five-star Hilton hotel, plus a luxury retail and entertainment complex. Standing over 300 metres high with 67 storeys, the tallest tower is designed to represent ‘the height of African achievement’, considerably taller than the current record holder, the Carlton Centre in South Africa (at 50 floors and 223 m tall). Kenya is one of Africa’s fastest growing economies with strong growth in its agricultural, tourism, construction and telecommunication sectors. The project is conveniently located just 16km from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi’s growing financial hub of Upper Hill, where many embassies and international organisations have set up their regional offices. These include Cisco Systems, World Bank and the IMF. link http://www.africanbusinessreview.co.za/finance/2758/World's-largest-construction-company-to-build-Africa's-tallest-development |
