NYSC / Redeploy Or Relocate To Any State And Direct Posting – Nysc Issues A Disclaimer by nyscstories: 3:22pm On Feb 20, 2020
The attention of NYSC Management has been drawn to an online advert created by fraudsters and mischief makers aimed at deceiving and extorting Prospective Corps Members in the guise of helping them to secure choice states for their National Service and also post them to organisations of their choice with the caption; REDEPLOY OR RELOCATE TO ANY FAVOURITE STATE AND DIRECT POSTING/REDPELOYMENT.

The Management of Scheme want to use this medium to inform all prospective Corps Members and other stakeholders to completely disregard such adverts as they don’t have any link with NYSC in any form.

It is very pertinent and instructive to state that anyone found to be part of such criminal advert placement will be handed over to law enforcement agents for prosecution without delay.

Prospective Corps Members are advised to disregard such information or advert circulating round, as it is devoid of facts, unfounded and misleading.

We want to appeal to all Prospective Corps Members and other members of the public not to fall prey to the antics of fraudsters who capitalise on the innocence and ignorance of the prospective Corps Members to defraud them. Be warned.

NYSC / NYSC Blacklist Institutions Involved In Fraudulent Mobilization by nyscstories: 8:40am On Feb 05, 2020
As published on NYSC official social media handles, the National Youth Service Corps has again warned Corps Producing Institutions against presenting unqualified persons for mobilization for National Service.

The Director-General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim gave this warning while addressing Data Entry Officers of Corps Producing Institutions at the 2020 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Mobilization Workshop in Asaba, Delta State.

The DG urged the Data Entry Officers to resist pressure from desperate over-aged graduates and other unqualified persons who would want them to manipulate mobilization data in their favor.

He advised them to make honesty and integrity their watchwords, adding that NYSC on its part had internal mechanisms for detecting over-aged and other unqualified persons.

He said among other innovations, the Scheme had started inserting the date of birth on the Certificate of National Service.

The DG warned that the Scheme would not hesitate to blacklist any institution that violates the guidelines on Mobilization, especially as they relate to the age of the graduates. “Let me emphasize here that the NYSC Act stipulates that only graduates of regular and accredited programs who are not above thirty years of age as at the time of graduation are eligible for mobilization”.

“We do not mobilize elderly persons. Therefore, enlighten your students on the need to make themselves available for service at the right time”. General Ibrahim further urged the institutions to avoid admitting candidates for Postgraduate Studies without evidence of completion of National Service or Exemption as applicable.

NYSC / The Management Of NYSC Confirms The Abduction Of Corps Members By Hoodlums by nyscstories: 8:18am On Jan 27, 2020
On the 25th of January, 2020, the Management of the National Youth Service Corps received a disturbing report that some Corps Members serving in Akwa-lbom State, deployed to electoral duties in respect of House of Representatives and Senatorial Elections were abducted at gunpoint by some political thugs after they had collected some sensitive materials meant for their assignments.

Regrettably, the hoodlums seized their mobile phones in order to foreclose any communication with the NYSC Distress Call Centre or security agencies for a rescue operation.

Notwithstanding the apparent threat to their lives, the abductees refused to do the obnoxious bidding of the political thugs.

Therefore, the Scheme wishes to salute the Corps Members for the rare display of courage, patriotism, integrity, discipline and team spirit which are the hallmarks of the National Youth Service Corps.

However, just like Management has always admonished in the face of danger, particularly that occasioned by electoral malpractices, Corps Members are strongly advised to secure their lives first and thereafter make a detailed report of such incident when they are out of harm’s way.

Gratifyingly, as at the time of going to the press, all the abducted Corps Members have been released unhurt and the political thugs numbering 79 rounded up by security agencies.

While urging the parents and relatives of the Corps Members to remain calm as the situation is under control, Management wishes to appeal to the political gladiators cutting across political parties in the country to eschew the politics of bitterness and desperation which most often than not put Corps Members who have been called up for Service by the Nation on collision course with thugs.

Management hastens to reiterate that Corps Members are non-partisan, and shall always remain loyal to the Nation in the discharge of their duties. The Scheme shall continue to place a high premium on its security in collaboration with all the security agencies in the country.

NYSC / NYSC And EFCC In Agreement To Engage Youths On St. Val’s Day by nyscstories: 2:57pm On Jan 20, 2020
[UPDATED]
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC), have agreed to use February 14, 2020, to engage and sensitize the youths of Nigeria in all the states of the country about the evils of corrupt practices.

Both agencies will, during Valentine’s Day, engage the youths of Nigeria in the fight against corruption.

The Director of Public Affairs (EFCC), Mr. Osita Nwajah, who represented the Acting Executive Chairman, Magu at a meeting with NYSC Management, said the youths were the center-piece of any social development adding that it was important that every single development policy and law involve the youths.

Magu who described the NYSC program as a “life-changing program” added that it is important to aggregate the ideas that are embedded in the Nigerian youths to move the nation forward.

He strongly acknowledged the role that the NYSC has played in nation-building and described it as an integral part of the Commission in achieving its mandate, especially in the areas of sensitization and human capacity development.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Youth Service Scheme, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, in his response, expressed excitement at the collaboration and assured the Commission of his total support and availability in the fight against corruption.

NYSC / Gunmen Rob, Rape NYSC Member In Bayelsa - NYSCSTORIES.COM by nyscstories: 10:42am On Jun 19, 2018
http://www.nyscstories.com/news/gunmen-rob-rape-nysc-member-in-bayelsa/#.WyjPqFMvx-U
An unidentified female member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, was reportedly raped by a gang of robbers in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. It was gathered that the hoodlums, who were engaged in house-to-house robbery at the Yenizuegene suburb of Yenagoa, attacked the corps member’s apartment located in the area in the early hours of Sunday.

The robbers, numbering about three, were said to have stormed the area at about 3a.m. and fired several gunshots into the air to scare away members of a vigilance group, whose members were only carrying sticks and cutlasses. They were said to have robbed the victim of her mobile phones, cash and other valuables and later raped her. The hoodlums, according to sources, capitalised on the blackout in the area to carry out the crime. A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they took turns on the victim despite her pleas for mercy. “She has, however, been taken to the hospital for treatment,” the source added. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident and said three robbers were involved in the crime. Butswat noted that the victim also made useful statement on the identities of the robbers, adding that the Police immediately launched a manhunt on them.

NYSC / 80 NYSC Members Rescued by nyscstories: 12:35pm On May 28, 2018
http://www.nyscstories.com/news/80-nysc-members-rescued/

80 NYSC members rescued as protesters, police clash in Bayelsa. The Bayelsa State Police Command said it has arrested no fewer than 18 persons following Tuesday’s violent protest at the Niger Delta University, NDU, Wilberforce Island, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The NDU was plunged into crisis after some angry women of Amassoma, the university’s host community, took to the streets on Tuesday to protest their disengagement from the institution as the state government implements its ongoing public service reforms.

The protesting women were said to have locked up the university gate, blocked the Amassoma-Tombia Road and carried mock coffin of the state governor, Seriake Dickson, while demanding reinstatement.

Reacting, the state police command, in a statement on Tuesday signed by DSP Asinim Butswat, its Spokesman, said the management of NDU informed the command via a letter “to provide security in the university to prevent hoodlums from stealing the property of the university.

“18 suspects were arrested for riotous behaviour and that they would be charged to court soon.

“Also 80 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who are vulnerable to attack from Amassoma community were rescued.”

According to him, the corps members were handed over to the NYSC officials in Yenagoa.

He denied allegations that security operatives shot at the protesters and killed three of them.

“Consequently, on 21st May 2018, the command deployed security personnel to the university. On arrival at the gate, the detachment of policemen met a hostile crowd who fired shots at them.

“The police had to use reasonable force to contain the hostile protesters. In the ensuing melee, two police officers were injured, five police vehicles vandalized and the protesters attacked the Amassoma Police Division.

“The Command deployed additional security personnel to contain the protesters and restore normalcy in Amassoma community,” Butswat added.

NYSC / I Will Turn NYSC Into Compulsory Military Service – Presidential Aspirant by nyscstories: 12:28pm On May 28, 2018
http://www.nyscstories.com/news/i-will-turn-nysc-into-compulsory-military-service-presidential-aspirant/

Presidential aspirant, Professor Remi Sonaiya, has promised to amend the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act and turn NYSC into a compulsory one-year military service for Nigerian graduates if she wins the 2019 presidential election.
The aspirant, running on the platform of KOWA Party (KP), disclosed this in a statement about her strategy released on the platform of her voter education initiative, Restart Nigeria, earlier in May 2018.

In the statement titled, “Running East, Looking for a Sunset… Thoughts on a viable National Strategy”, Professor Sonaiya listed five important areas where she hopes to improve the country if she ever becomes Nigeria’s president.

She argued that Nigeria has been suffering from decades of indiscipline and disorganisation that can only be solved by a deliberate well-structured system of discipline.

According to her, if she has the National Assembly’s approval, Nigerian graduates will serve in the military for a year and become reservists for the next five years that comes after it. She believes this will be pivotal to an essential system of strict social retraining.

She said, “On Day 1, I’ll forward to the National Assembly an amendment to the NYSC Act that will make it a one-year compulsory military service. For five years thereafter, graduates will be military reservists. I believe that we can benefit from a deliberate well-structured system of discipline.”

Prof. Sonaiya further disclosed her plans to restructure the country, improve education, champion the nation’s renewable energy innovation age and improve productivity.

She remarked that fixing these major issues will ensure that other important issues with the economy, infrastructure and health will fall into place.

The 63-year-old called on Nigerians to not re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari due to the failures of his administration and urged them to also imbibe the same culture of change that they demand in their leaders.

Her full statement read, “Many people have asked me what I would bring to Aso Rock should I win in 2019. My answer is this: just five things.

Restructuring and devolution of power to the states and local government areas as well as security amnd state policing.
“This is essential because the power concentrated in the centre is obviously overwhelming and seriously undermining the effectiveness of the federal government.

“Take the issue of the herdsmen attacks in various places. If the states had their own police network, the president would not have to ask the IG (Ibrahim Idris) to relocate to Benue state and, thereby, abandon the rest of the country.

“The role of the federal government should be to bring in heavy firepower and intelligence capabilities.

Introduction of compulsory military service
“I believe that decades of indiscipline and disorganisation cannot be solved merely by good plans and good intentions. A system of strict social retraining is essential.

“If you look at the most innovative countries by 2018 rankings, the top five are South Korea, Sweden, Singapore, Germany and Switzerland.

“Except for Germany, all the other countries in those top five positions have compulsory military service. Germany, the exception, is, as we know, a country whose national culture is based on discipline and there is even a historical reason for not having compulsory military service.

“On Day 1, I’ll forward to the National Assembly an amendment to the NYSC Act that will make it a one-year compulsory military service. For five years thereafter, graduates will be military reservists.

“I believe that we can benefit from a deliberate well-structured system of discipline.

Education
“I will invest the UNICEF-recommended amount into education and have the Minister of Education equally become the Minister of Innovation.

“It must be emphasised that education is not about amassing head knowledge but about driving innovation to solve real life challenges.

Renewable energy innovation
“The nation has experienced, especially in the last few years, the dire consequences of having a primarily oil-based economy. Indeed, the oil sector became a cesspool of corrupt practices. Recall the mind-boggling scandals over subsidy payments which rocked the Jonathan administration and has continued into the Buhari administration as well.

“The problem is actually not about fuel subsidy; the real challenge is that we’re faced with an opportunity to examine our real energy needs and seek ways in which they can be met in a sustainable manner, that is, also being mindful of our future needs given our growing population.

“Innovation is not a uniquely western idea; as the world shifts to alternative forms of energy, we cannot wait for them to bring it to us. I have often wondered why Africans, with the hot sun on our heads permanently, were not the first to think of solar energy.

“I will ensure that the Ministry of Science and Technology is focused on making Nigeria one of the world’s leaders in alternative energy. In 30 years, filling stations will most likely become obsolete. We have to start today to invent the technology and put in place the needed infrastructure that will take advantage of the huge potential we have in generating green energy, not only for our own needs but for exports within our region as well.

Improved productivity and fair renumeration for work done
“We waste a lot of time as a nation. This means that our productivity is very low. Developed countries measure productivity in terms of how much work is done within an hour, and they pay accordingly.

“We do not even know how much work is expected of different categories of workers and there’s unfair renumeration; for example, the legislators at the National Assembly.

“Fair, just and equittable renumeration for work done is one of the most stabilising factors among any nation’s work force. This is one way that an end can be brought quickly to the constant agitations and strike actions by workers.

“Overall, we need to create a just and orderly society and perhaps, more importantly, we must create a culture of honest and dignified labour for our coming generations.

Conclusion
“In conclusion, definitely, a lot of people would expect me promise to attend to the usual sectors like economy, infrastructure, health, corruption, etc. The fact is that those sectors will most likely fall in place by themselves based on the five areas identified to be focused upon.
“Government’s primary job is to create the right environment which would allow entrepreneurs and investors to thrive in their various areas of endeavour, not to compete with the private sector, micromanaging everything from secondary schools to roads to building railways and generating electricity.

“The majority of Nigerians now believe that President Buhari should not be re-elected. We have performed that feat before in 2015 when Nigerians decided to vote out a sitting president.

“So, the mission this time is not merely to repeat the same thing. We have to show that we can hold ourselves as citizens to the same standards that we hold our leaders.

“Good leadership is invaluable but it will be ultimately unsuccessful if the followers themselves are unwilling to pay the price of change they wish to see in their leaders.”

NYSC / NYSC Members To Get Health Insurance – 2018 Budget by nyscstories: 3:45pm On May 17, 2018
The 2018 budget has provided for corps members to be covered by health insurance.
This will be implemented from the one percent of consolidated revenue fund to be dedicated to health, as stipulated by the National Health Act.

The chairman of Senate Committee on Health, Lanre Tejuoso (APC, Ogun Central), disclosed this at plenary on Wednesday while contributing to a motion sponsored by Andrew Uchendu (APC, Rivers).

Mr Uchendu had lamented the insensitivity of officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) towards corps members who fall sick during the three weeks orientation.

In his remark, Mr Tejuoso stated that the one per cent of the Consolidate Revenue Fund (CRF) will ensure that youth corpers are covered by health insurance.

“I want to refer to the budget that we are passing today; that the issue of youth corpers in Nigeria is well highlighted.

“The introduction of the one per cent of the consolidated revenue fund that is going to be introduced in this new budget will ensure that all the youth corpers are covered by the health insurance.

He therefore advised the national headquarters of NYSC to ensure that only fully qualified medical practitioners are deployed to work in NYSC camps all over the country to prevent future occurrences.

NYSC / Join Military, NYSC Boss Urges Corps Members by nyscstories: 3:50pm On May 09, 2018
Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members to consider enlisting in the armed forces.

The Director-General inspects drugs and other facilities at Sagamu Orientation Camp during his visit. Kazaure gave the advice in an interview on Tuesday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun.

The director-general, who inspected various physical and combat activities of the 2018 Batch ‘A’ corps members deployed to Ogun, said he was impressed by their level of discipline. Kazaure, who also watched the quarter-guard, Man-O-War regiment, martial arts combats as well as the band display of the corps members, said he was certain that they would excel in the military. He described the Ogun Orientation camp as one of the best in the country, noting that it had been persistent over the years in maintaining excellence in the training of corps members. “With what I have witnessed here today, I can confidently state that this has been by far the best set of corps members ever received in Ogun State camp.

NYSC / How NYSC Camp Changed My View Of The Northerners - Akeredolu Odunayo by nyscstories: 3:05pm On Feb 03, 2017
After a long drive which seemed to last for ages from Lagos, I arrived NYSC
permanent orientation camp, Kubwa, Abuja where i carried out all the needed
registrations and collected my kit.
There and then did my camp experience start, as I began to adjust to a
regimented life of sleeping and waking earlier than I wanted as I was totally at
the mercy of unarmed military officers. I also began to reconcile the differences
in my stereotypical conception of other tribes and what is obtainable in reality, for
instance, I realized northerners are hardworking not always wanting to depend on
the “BIGGER MAN” for need satisfaction, friendly and peace loving people, which
was in sharp contrast to what years of living in Lagos and constant pictures of
violence in the media impressed on me, funny enough I was able to learn this in
just three days of living with my new roommates.
However, I failed to understand why the kitchen didn’t prepare enough food only
to constantly supplement it with another food type, for instance the kitchen would
prepare rice that wouldn’t be enough for all corp members then when it finished
they would start serving bread to corp members who were yet to receive their
rations of food.
Maami market was also “lit”, at least for those who had a lot of cash to throw
around, but truth be told I had my fair share of Maami visits, and every single one
of them was memorable and fun including when I was pick-pocketed in the same
said market.
Finally, friends made my camp experience worthwhile as without the opportunity
NYSC camp provided, am not so sure I would be able to sit on the same table
and even share a drink with a full blooded northerner who grew in the northern
part of the country. Yes feel free to call me proud or egoistical, truth is I haven’t
always felt easy with a northerner till now, heck I even had a serious crush on
one. I was also able to bond with a couple of people who I came to cherish, love
and respect over time either for intelligence, street smartness, beauty,
kindheartedness etc like Victor, Jibaniya Solomon, Ameen Hamida, Edua Eboigbe,
the ever beautiful Ehinor, peace hostel boiz, platoon 3 dance and drama crew and
my platoon 3a and b friends and everyone I forgot to mention or I didn’t talk to
sef.
My name is Akeredolu Odunayo Isaac with state code FCT/16B/0133. This
summarizes my camp experience.
