NYSCHouse Of Reps Reacts To NYSC Slashing - Good News! by nyscstories(op): 6:05pm On Oct 11, 2016
The House of Representatives on Tuesday, said it would investigate the reported undue reduction in the quota of students to be mobilized annually for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

The resolution followed a motion under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by Reps. Raphael Igbokwe (PDP-Imo) and Babatunde Kolawole (APC-Ondo), which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

Moving the motion, Igbokwe expressed concern that NYSC had released a circular to mobilizing tertiary institutions to reduce their quota by almost 70 per cent.

He noted that the 2016 budget made provision for call-up of corps members with a shortfall of more than 50,000 students.

“The NYSC introduced three batches of NYSC to reduce the backlog of students due for National Youths Service Scheme,’’, he said, adding that the corps furthered reduced the batches to two.

The lawmaker said that the quota reduction would cause untold hardship on graduated students, if no action was taken.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, mandated the Committee on Youth Development to investigate the matter and report back to the house within one week.

NYSCNYSC HQ Reacts - No Slash In Corps Members’ Allowance by nyscstories(op): 12:08pm On Oct 10, 2016
The Management of the NYSC hereby refutes the content of a mischievous information circulating in the social media to the effect that corps members’ allowance has been slashed by 25%.
In the first instance, the document quoted a “Brigadier General Bamidele Oluwami” the purported NYSC Director General as the source of its information.
The scheme vehemently dissociate itself from this wicked falsehood meant to create confusion in the polity. The Director General of the NYSC is Brigadier General SZ Kazaure and he never made any comment as claimed by the brains behind the damaging publication.
Management hereby categorically state that corps members allowance remains N19800 and not reduced to N14800 as wickedly portrayed by the social media release. For the avoidance of doubts, we unequivocally restate our unalloyed commitment to the welfare of all corps members at all times.
Corps members and the public should therefore ignore this misleading information and go about their duties lawfully without fear.

NYSCNANS Finally Reacts To NYSC Slashing Number Of Graduands by nyscstories(op):
The leadership of the students’ body has reacted to recent reduction in the rate of mobilization among graduates by NYSC.
The attention of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have been drawn to the recent directive from the NYSC to slash the number of graduands from every tertiary institutions to be mobilised for the scheme by over 70%. This they claim is as a result of lack of resources. The development has caused a lot of confusion in our students community across the nation.
The implication therefore is that after graduation one might have to stay at home for at least five years considering the accumulated backlogs before been mobilised for NYSC. Furthermore, it will also result to a situation whereby participation will be as a result of WHO NO MAN and how highly placed your father is in the society.
NOTE!
The budget for this financial year/the NYSC has long been passed and was extended to may 2017. After which, there....

Eight Corps members deployed to Kaduna State under the `Batch B’ 2015 of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are to repeat their service year in the state.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Mohammed Momoh made the disclosure in Kaduna on Thursday at the passing out of the 2, 837 members of the batch.
Momoh said the eight corps members absconded immediately after their orientation last year.
He said that 15 other corps members had their service years extended for violating rules and regulations of the corps.
“This is a punitive measure taken against the erring corps members for violating the rules and regulations of the corps,” he said.
The coordinator, however, said that seven corps members died in active service.
Momoh disclosed that three corps members won the state’s prestigious merit award, seven others got the chairman’s awards, while 10 won the state coordinators commendation award.
He commended the state government, and the people of the state for the sustained moral and financial support to the corps.
The coordinator urged the corps members to utilise the skills acquired during the service year in their future endeavour, and always be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

NYSCBreaking News : NYSC Unable To Mobilize All Qualified Graduates - CONFIRMED by nyscstories(op): 10:35am On Oct 06, 2016
INFORMATION ON NYSC 2016 BATCH ‘B’ SERVICE YEAR
The National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has informed all corps producing institutions of its inability to mobilize all graduates of the University for the 2016 Batch ‘B’ service year as a result of tight budgetary allocation of the scheme in 2016. This development affects all universities in Nigeria.
Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has issues an internal memorandum requesting all heads of departments to come for balloting on behalf of PCMs of their department.
Unizik has been requested to mobilize only eight hundred and ninty-four (894) graduates out of one thousand, three hundred and fourteen graduates eligible for the exercise.
This is applicable for every university as NYSC has mandated them to send only 1/4 of their eligible graduates.
Bowen University has been requested to mobilize only three hundred and sixty-seven (367) graduates out of the nine hundred and fifty six (956) graduates eligible for the exercise in 2016. The remaining graduates will be given priority in the next mobilization exercise scheduled for early 2017.
Our question is , why is Nigerian Government wasting useful life of Nigerian graduates?

NYSCNYSC Disqualifies 157 Bidders Over Fake Documents by nyscstories(op): 9:36am On Oct 06, 2016
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disqualified 157 companies out of the 209 bidders that indicated interest for the production and supply of kits items for corps members in the next orientation exercise for lapses ranging from double submission, fake PENCOM, ITF, tax clearance certificates.
Disclosing this yesterday during the opening of financial bids for the procurement and supply of kits items for Batch ‘B’ 2016 Corps members in Abuja, the director- general, Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, said the Scheme would not compromise quality and standard.
Kazaure, who was represented by the director, Procurement, Mr. Yakubu Jok, said to ensure credibility, integrity and in compliance with the law, an independent technical evaluation committee drawn from key critical departments and units were constituted to evaluate the bid documents.
He said only 46 companies would be selected out of the 52 that passed the bidding to carry out the production and supply of the kit items.
He said participants had been warned before that the bidding will be done in total compliance with the 2007 Public Procurement Act to ensure that there was fairness, transparency and accountability.
He said: “We appreciate the economic recession challenge, but we will not accept any fake or substandard products. Remember that you must label your products so people can easily know it, know that our quality control unit has been charged to do a thorough screening of all the products supply and those found wanting would be rejected. I am sure you cannot sell it if we reject your products, so please do a good job if you are selected.”
The participants applauded the Scheme for its ability to fish out those that used fake documents, urging other government agencies to emulate NYSC for its thoroughness.

NYSCCorps Member Bitten By Employer’s Dogs Cries For Help - Full story + Picture by nyscstories(op): 12:21pm On Oct 05, 2016
A National Youth Service Corps member in Bayelsa State, Miss Loretta Okoro, has cried out for help over pains caused by bites she sustained from her employer’s dogs.
Our correspondent gathered that 28-year-old Okoro was bitten by security dogs in her employer’s house on December 5, 2015, where she was posted for her primary assignment.
It was learned that three dogs on the premises of the employer, Prof. Klem Imananah, reportedly pounced on the corps member at about 7pm on that day.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, Okoro lamented that her employer and the state chapter of the had abandoned her to her fate.
She alleged that since the incident occurred, she had not gone through proper medical treatment and that her health had deteriorated.
Okoro, a member of Stream A, with NYSCnumber NUA/2015/162926, said though the wounds had her NYSC led on the surface, she later started suffering from hallucination, numbness, mental torture and psychological imbalance.
Okoro, who said she was posted to the residence of Imananah at Opolo in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of the state, accused her employer of neglect.
She said, “On December 5, 2015, I was attacked by three dogs owned by Prof. Imananah who I was attached to. The first hospital I was taken to had no doctor to attend to me.
“I called a friend of mine who came to take me to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa. The injuries were cleaned every day and I was given injections. I spent three weeks at the hospital and later went home.
“The following day after being discharged, I started feeling some strange ailment. I have been trying to be stable since then. I can no longer sleep. I see strange and horrible things in my dreams. I have been reaching out to the NYSC to know if they can be of help, but nothing has happened till now. They claimed I am only pretending.
“Even the owner of the dogs has been threatening me with court action, saying that I am embarrassing him.
“I have not been able to do anything. Things have gone beyond my imagination. I have yet to get back to normal.”
Okoro, an indigene of Imo State, appealed to the federal and state governments to wade into the matter.
She said the NYSC in the state had not given her matter the attention it deserved, adding that since the incident occurred, no one from the NYSC had called to know her condition.
Okoro’s colleague, who identified himself only as Kingsley, said the victim’s health had worsened, adding that she needed urgent medical attention.
Kingsley said, “It was unpleasant on Monday evening. She was hallucinating and screaming throughout the night. I knew her from the camp. But now, everything about her health has changed. NYSC is supposed to protect corps members. But with what I have seen in the case of Loretta Okoro, we are just on our own. If something urgent is not done, Loretta may lose her life.”
The employer, Imananah, confirmed that Okoro was bitten by his dogs but said he ensured the corps member was treated for her injuries healed.
He said his dogs were free of rabies, adding that Okoro would not be alive if she contracted rabies from the incident that occurred since December.
He said, “The girl wants to extort money from me. She thinks it is easy. If a dog bites you and the dog is normal, nothing will happen to you.
“It takes only a few days for someone bitten by rabies-infected dogs to die. What she is saying is total nonsense.”
Imananah said he spent about N200,000 at the FMC to treat Okoro, adding that she was given the full dosage of anti-rabies at the hospital.
The state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Anthony Ekeocha, when contacted said he could not respond to the matter on the telephone.

When the Vice Chancellor Prof. ‘Lanre Fagbohun assumed office on Monday, 11th January, 2016, the passion to turn the fortunes of the University around positively, was clearly and boldly written all over him.

The pragmatic progressive Vice Chancellor’s style of Administration has proved to be the secret of winning more Friends for the University. Aside, building and improving on the existing relationship with the Media, Friends, well-meaning Nigerians and all stakeholders, he has equally attracted the attention of the National Youth Service Corps [NYSC].

NYSCRe: 2015 Batch ‘b’ Winding Up/passing-out Approval by nyscstories(op): 12:56pm On Sep 19, 2016
The attention of the NYSC Management has been drawn to a fake document with the above heading being circulated online and purported to be from the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in respect of the passing-out of the 2015 Batch ‘B’ Corps members.
2.The document, dated 16th September, 2016 and made with scanned official letterhead and other portions of an earlier circular of the Scheme, dismisses the dates set for the passing-out of the 2015 Batch ‘B’ Corps members as contained in that genuine circular in a bid to cause confusion.
3.Management wishes to inform the 2015 Batch ‘B’ Corps members and the rest of the public that the official passing-out dates are as follows:
2015 Batch ‘B’ Stream I: 6th October, 2016
2015 Batch ‘B’ Stream II: 4th November, 2016
4.Details of the winding-up/passing-out activities lined up in respect of the two streams have been communicated to all NYSC State Secretariats for implementation.
