I was half-kidding. I'm yet to speak with Tinubu and Mama Hannah Dideolu afterall. I share your pessimism to an extent, but seriously, we have to break the cycle. This Country is at a crossroad, I predict that Nigeria will be forced to make some deep fundamental changes in the next decade or collapse if it does not. It will involve a lot of powerplay and give and take. We will need to have strong leaders in front fighting the battle for us. They won't be perfect but they will need much greater support than all these screaming at each other will allow. See, It is good to dislike group-think and embrace diversity of opinion, it is very healthy too. But not now, it is dangerous for us to ignore the bigger picture at this critical stage. We can point to the "fall" of OBJ as a triumph of opposition, and a good example of the same pattern playing out now -the same old pattern that has always played out across the SW, But we have to remind ourselves that OBJ was obviously more concerned about keeping Nigeria as one for "power/control" reasons than actually fighting for the SW or developing any region in particular. Awolowo, Bola Ige and now Tinubu are clearly not from that school of thought. We need to critically examine that fact and ask ourselves if this "diversity of thought" "political pluralism" or "democratic pluralism" are the values we want to push forward at this moment. Although they are good values for us on the long run. For now, we need an emergency re-adjustment of values, just like a country-at-war making special adjustment laws for war time only. IMO, we are at war. It is very dangerous to continue the power-play. Like you alluded to; we know how it will end and that is not what we need right now. I don't know how the Tinubus, Awolowos, Falaes other political player camps view it, but we need a more united front against "Nigeria" (not the country per se, but the dis-jointed system it represents). Nigeria is the bigger enemy we have now. Unlike nationalist pro Nigeria-agenda status-quo defenders like OBJ and co, I'm more concerned about my region. It is easier to attack the Nigerian problem from that position. I hope these people see it that way. I doubt it, but it's good to hope. Sorry, probably a bit off-topic, I had to let it out.
Thank you Kilode for this post. Unfortunately many are not looking at the bigger picture, rather, all we see are the bigger name and the bigger man. And too bad as you rightly pointed out, this is dangerous for us in the SW. Just when we should be rejoicing for having an edge which we ought to be maintaining over our enemies, our enemies now see us as the laughingstock. Yoruba ronu o. |

dayokanu: Ystranger:When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. The progress of Odualand is what will suffer in this case. If it is possible for Oduduwa and Awolowo to see what is going on, will they be happy? Just when we thought the SW is set to move forward, then this. Se afise ni? We can do without all this, what is at stake is higher than all the personal insults. |
While we ought to be building bridges, we are busy dividing ourselves further. This is the time SW need to come together and be united more than ever, but unfortunately we are busy fighting ourselves. Yoruba ronu o. |
