Tcrack:Do you need transportation fare? |
Artifact |
Kobojunkie:You are right, that is why am an advocate of Public-Private-Partnership(PPP) Organisations. While not also discouraging wholly private owned refineries under people oriented regulations. |
Seun:May be not, and I dont expect it to be, but considering other overheads that go into importation of these commodities, it should be cheaper for us producing them locally at the long run. |
Really? Why are they not chasing alayes then? Because they help them rig elections,ba?. And goodluck on your donation to Rotary club because less than 50% of your contribution goes into charity. Try red cross next time please.
Do you know what Fashola has done for many of the so called alayes/area boys? so many of them were taken off the street, rehabilitated and employed by Lagos state. And thanks for your recommendation. I do support red cross too but i also know how Rotary club works, your less than 50% claim is not true, might be true for other charitable orgs though. |
Kobojunkie:Hopefully private owned refineries will be better managed and the efficiency will be higher than those public owned refineries. The benefits are much more than producing petrol, think about other value added to local production of these commodities such as job creations, GDP growth etc. |
It is very easy for one to support evil and look for ways to justify it. The same thing happened to slaves in America and many used the bible to justify their torture. Beggars are not one because it is the most lucrative profession and all those who claim that beggars build multiple structures are those who hate to give. Begging will strip one of his/her self esteem, expose them to harsh weather and make them look pathetic mostimes. I am not sure people become beggars by choice except alayes. many beggars in Nigeria are of hausa descent and it is due to their exposure to leprosy and other diseases that either blinds them or renders their limbs useless. Is that how you feel about your fellow disabled citizens yet you complain when oyibo shows a little racism to you?. There are beggars in the streets of America and they are more in NY even with their better social system. Some of the beggars blatantly ask for alms so they can buy beer and cigarettes yet people who wants to give them money still do. If a relation of yours is affected by this inhumane treatment, will you open your dark lips to support the government?. What makes a city mega is the availability of responsible people, miscreants, beggars, touts, high powered people, inventors, etc and not just one. NY wouldn;t have been the capital of the world if they exhibit the level of xenophobia seen in the government of Lagos. Please explain to me why a Lagos indigenous beggar should vacate his/her state because the govt he/she voted in asked him to leave his/her motherland?. If a Lagos indigenous beggar is forced to move to Kano and gets killed there in the hands of rival amajiris, who will be blamed for putting him/her in harms way? Let us think twice about what we support. I know Fashola has many fans and has done well overtime but this move is an act of cruelty.
Spare me your long sermon, fact remains that street begging is not the best solution to the needs of these less privileged people. We must do things right. No one is saying they should be ignored, there are many social institutions and charitable organisations out there. I do give to charity and I will prefer for instance to give my money to say Rotary Club, that would build a home and employed carers for these leprous beggars than encourage them to remain begging on the street. It is not only an eyesore seeing them on the street, it is unhealthy and unsafe for them and the community. Lets learn to do things right. |

I think it is a typical Yoruba culture. Well there is no particular description for it since arondan is nothing, it is usually described in such a way to get the curiosity of the one being sent on fruitless errands. Ist time i heard about it I thought it was a jewelry, may be it's because of the 'dan' in the name (dan in yoruba means shine) so u assume it is something shining. but i didn't go all the distance in my case, i was not ready to walk all that distance, after the 2nd point of call I went back home in annoyance and asked my Aunt and Uncle to go and get it themselves. |
Who sent her? You? How old was she? I remember that specific Arodan trip, and could easily have been sent on several more after that, since, surprisingly, one ever broke the rule and explained to me why I returned home empty-handed. It wasn't until years and years later I figured it out. The beauty of it is, they didn't overdo it - I don't remember any but the one trip, in fact. Otherwise I'd had figured it out sooner, I'm sure. ![]() Would I have told other gullible kids around me? Heck, NO! Let them experience it themselves; they'll have stories to regale their friends and family later on.
she was around age 12 or 13 then. my sister was giving lots of troubles and my aunt told her about an arodan that makes skin bright and shining always, she claimed she just bought it and she gave it to a neighbor to have a look, then sent my sister after it. lol |
^^ lol What a lucky man, and he must get iice on top, free of charge cos where ever those two go, iice must go.BTW, the man looks like me sha, abi na me? ![]() |
