Hi everyone, This time I’m writing to you from Leon, a beautiful town in Northern Spain close to Asturias, my home. As you know, this Monday we start the qualifying stage for the 2018 World Cup that will take place in Russia and we notice there’s a lot of excitement around, both in the team and amongst the fans. Last Thursday we played a friendly game against Belgium in Brussels and the team left a very good impression. I think we showed character and we put into practice all the ideas that we had been working on before the game. Everything was just perfect. Many times you ask me about the atmosphere inside the team, both in Manchester United and here. With Spain, for instance, we travelled by train from Madrid to Leon on Sunday and the journey was as usual. Some guys were playing online video games with each other (making fun of everything!), some others were playing cards non-stop, a few here and there watched movies or series, and the rest of the players were either chatting, reading or even having a nap, although these days, if you do so, you are likely to find a picture of yourself fully asleep posted on a team-mate’s social network, so you always have to keep an eye open! And that’s how our journey was. After the international break, there is a game coming on Saturday that I’m sure many of you are waiting for: the Manchester derby. All of us are fully aware that this is a very special game, yet we have to understand that these are three points and don’t get too crazy. Both teams have started the Premier League well and the expectations are high, as everybody can imagine. David De Gea and me have been joking with Nolito and [David] Silva in the last few days, although the truth is we are now focused on the games with the national team. After that, we will have plenty of time to think about this exciting derby. Have a nice week. Hugs! Juan |

The Election was transparent enough in my opinion, I don't know why it's so hard for him (Oke) to concede defeat! Abraham has moved on, also vowed to support Aketi to emerge as the new Governor of the State coming November! Oke should bury his Hatchet, chill and support the Candidacy of Aketi!

Leaders of the world’s biggest powers met Sunday to try to revive the sluggish world economy, with their host Chinese President Xi Jinping urging them to avoid “empty talk”. Xi welcomed each president and prime minister to the Group of 20 summit with a handshake and had an extended clasp with Barack Obama, with both men smiling despite protocol stumbles around the US leader’s visit. In a circular conference hall in Hangzhou — the scenic eastern city left deserted by a vast security operation — Xi told them the G20 “should work with real action, with no empty talk”. China is hoping a successful meeting will portray it as an assured and powerful nation ready to assume a role on the international stage that befits its status as the world’s second-largest economy. Authorities shut thousands of factories to try to clear the skies of smog, and encouraged residents to leave town on free holidays, as well as detaining dozens of dissidents to prevent any hint of unrest. The G20 brings together representatives of 85 percent of the world’s GDP and two-thirds of its population. But experts expect the gathering to be short on substance, with no acute crisis pushing leaders to defy rising populist sentiment and to take difficult steps such as liberalising trade. Xi said the global economy “still faces multiple risks and challenges including a lack of growth momentum and consumption, turbulent financial markets, receding global trade and investment”. “We hope the Hangzhou summit will come up with a prescription for the world economy and lead it back to the road of strong, balanced, comprehensive and sustainable growth.” – No deal on Syria – The summit was preceded by a flurry of diplomatic activity on issues ranging from climate change and the war in Syria to international trade. The US and China on Saturday ratified the Paris climate accord, a crucial step towards bringing into force the pact against global warming. UN chief Ban Ki-moon, who personally received the ratification documents from Xi and Obama, applauded them Sunday for “making this historic step” and urged other G20 leaders to follow suit. There had been hopes for another breakthrough, on the long war in Syria, after the US said it was close to a deal with Russia on stemming the violence. But negotiations between Secretary of State John Kerry and his counterpart Sergei Lavrov yielded only an agreement to convene again on Monday, with Russia accused of “walking back” on key issues. Moscow and Washington support opposite sides in the conflict, which erupted in March 2011 after President Bashar al-Assad unleashed a brutal crackdown against a pro-democracy revolt. Successive rounds of international negotiations have failed to end a conflict that has left more than 290,000 people dead and forced millions to flee, a key contributor to migrant flows into Europe. EU President Donald Tusk said Europe was “close to limits” on its ability to accept new waves of refugees and urged the broader international community to shoulder its share of the burden. The issue has become a political hot potato for European leaders as Islamist terror attacks and rising anti-globalisation sentiment fuel public resentment of immigration. Pictures of a drowned three-year-old Syrian boy lying on a Greek beach briefly changed the discourse last year, with Germany throwing open its borders, but a major backlash swiftly followed. Ahead of the summit, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned against “rampant” protectionism and nationalism, saying that “building walls” was not the solution.” The talks are being held in the wake of Britain’s vote to leave the European Union, which leaves it with the task of renegotiating access to the markets of the rest of the world, including those of the group it is leaving. It is a huge job for the world’s fifth-biggest economy, and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said Canberra had “got things moving towards having a free trade agreement with the UK”. But European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker said he opposes such talks while Britain remains part of the EU, insisting they were an “exclusive matter” for the bloc on behalf of its members and “we are sticking to it”. – Shouting match – China craves a polished summit but there were more wrinkles Saturday when a shouting match broke out over access for reporters travelling with Obama as Air Force One arrived on the tarmac. “This is our country!” a Chinese official, in a dark suit, shouted at a White House staffer. “This is our airport!” Obama took the fracas in his stride on Sunday, saying that although the US insists on press access and does not “leave our values and ideals behind”, the travelling White House juggernaut could be intimidating. “I think this time… the seams are showing a little more than usual in terms of some of the negotiations and jostling that takes place behind the scenes,” he told a press conference. http://m.guardian.ng/news/chinas-xi-warns-against-empty-talk-as-g20-summit-opens/ |

VALENCIA MISSES ECUADOR DEFEAT Antonio Valencia was not involved in Ecuador's 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat at home to Brazil. Olympic hero Neymar and Manchester City-bound debutant Gabriel Jesus (2) scored the goals in Quito. |
DESCHAMPS' PRAISE FOR MARTIAL France coach Didier Deschamps spoke about Martial after the game, saying: "Martial wasn't satisfied of his performance at the Euros. We talked it over. He was a bit worn out after his busy season. But I haven't forgotten what he's capable of. I told him he'd play one half. In these conditions and with his state of mind, he's a real threat for his opponents. It's very good." |
HENRIKH THANKS FANS Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was substituted with a reported thigh strain while playing for Armenia on Wednesday, tweeted on Saturday: "My dear fans, I appreciate much that you worry about me, thank you! I'm now back in Manchester for treatment and hope to be fit very soon!" |
LUKE SHAW WITHDRAWS FROM ENGLAND SQUAD Luke Shaw has returned to Manchester United after withdrawing from England's squad, ahead of their trip to Slovakia for Sunday's World Cup qualifier. The Reds left-back felt uncomfortable on Saturday morning and so sat out of training, after which it was decided he should go back to United. A statement on Saturday read: "The left-back was rested from training at St. George's Park this morning with the medical team continuing to manage his workload. "With Danny Rose set to start against Slovakia in Trnava tomorrow night, Shaw has been allowed to return to Manchester to train with his club as a precautionary measure. "Sam Allardyce's remaining 22 players all travelled out to Slovakia this afternoon." Allardyce later confirmed in a press conference that Shaw was not injured and had returned to Manchester "for precautionary measures". |
EARLY TEAM NEWS FOR THE MANCHESTER DERBY Manchester United will not face Sergio Aguero in next weekend’s Manchester derby after the City striker was suspended for three matches for violent conduct, following an incident involving West Ham United’s Winston Reid. Aguero had already been ruled out of Argentina’s matches in the current international break with a calf strain, while the Blues will check on the fitness of summer signings Leroy Sane (hamstring) and Ilkay Gundogan (knee), who are yet to play for the club, as well as Bacary Sagna (hamstring) and Vincent Kompany (thigh). Joe Hart, Wilfried Bony, Samir Nasri and Eliaquim Mangala were among a raft of players allowed to leave on loan by new manager Pep Guardiola this summer, so it’ll be something of a new-look City side that comes to Old Trafford next Saturday. For United, Henrikh Mkhitaryan reportedly sustained a thigh strain while playing for Armenia on Wednesday night and he has returned to the club, tweeting on Saturday: "My dear fans, I appreciate much that you worry about me, thank you! I'm now back in Manchester for treatment and hope to be fit very soon!" Marouane Fellaini was not involved in Belgium’s midweek friendly defeat to Spain, with Reds boss Jose Mourinho having revealed that the midfielder picked up a back injury in the victory over Hull City. Jesse Lingard, who is one of eight outfield first-team players to have remained at the Aon Training Complex during the international break, has not played since the Community Shield win over Leicester City. Both managers will need to assess their returning international stars before selecting their teams for the derby and Mourinho confirmed that his Latin American players Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero will not be back at the training ground until Friday. It’s already shaping up to be a classic derby, with both sides having won their opening three league games in the same season for only the second time in their history (the first was in 2011/12). |

We keep eight outfield players and Sam Johnstone as the goalkeeper [for training] "We are going to lose the others and we don't know the way they train, the way they recover, the life they are going to have with their national teams. "Some are coming back on the Monday before the Manchester City match but some are coming back on Friday. The day before Man City, we will still have Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo and Antonio Valencia arriving. "It will be a complicated process but we know it is like this when we have these players. And I would love all of the players to go because it would mean that everybody is being selected for their national teams. "I give the other guys, who are not selected for the national teams, two days off. And I give four days to Zlatan. At 34 years old, you need to rest." - Jose Mourinho |

Daley Blind is not often the centre of attention at Manchester United. He rarely wins awards, he isn't showered in praise and his name is seldom splashed across the sporting headlines, yet the Dutchman remains an indispensable member of the team and Jose Mourinho’s plans. It was Eric Bailly who collected a third Man of the Match award of the season at Hull City on Saturday and the Ivory Coast international deserved it, following an impressive and authoritative display in rain-soaked Hull. But his fellow centre-back could easily have taken home the prize. Blind was also excellent at the KCOM Stadium where he maintained his fine start to the first campaign under Mourinho, keeping the hosts' striker Abel Hernandez at bay and playing a key role in what became a dramatic 1-0 win. He was later among MUTV's three nominees for the star-man poll and earned 21 per cent of votes cast by followers of @ManUtd on Twitter, while Bailly triumphed with 64 per cent. Missing out on Saturday's Man of the Match award will not have given Daley a sleepless night, in fact he may not even have been aware of the result, but it feels worthwhile to highlight the Dutchman's influence on the result in a season that has so far been dominated by summer signings and emerging talents. Blind’s intelligent performances at centre-back are perfectly complimenting the more combative approach of Bailly, forming a silk-and-steel partnership that is pivotal to United currently boasting the Premier League’s meanest defensive record with just one goal conceded from three matches played. Theirs is a perfect blend. Blind uses street smarts as a weapon of choice when other players in his position lead with their imposing height or electric pace; he reads football like we read words, only much quicker and more intelligently. Bailly more commonly deploys his physical and athletic attributes, out-muscling and out-running the opposition. There’s something gloriously old-school about him; he’s an evolution of the classic Premier League defender. Another interesting sub-plot to their relationship is the advisory role that Blind, 26, has adopted for his much younger team-mate, given that Bailly arrived at United in the summer with only 52 senior appearances to his name for previous clubs Villarreal and Espanyol. Daley tallied 56 outings in 2015/16 alone and you cannot underestimate the experience that he can share - even if the pair do not share a common language! One imagines they’d be perfect at the old good cop, bad cop routine. Daley would offer a cup of coffee and a phone call home, using subtler methods of persuasion to glean a confession, while Eric might manhandle the accused and throw said coffee cup at the wall. In the end, they'd always get their man. Indeed, this flourishing relationship at centre-back has caught many supporters by surprise, namely because Chris Smalling was so outstanding in the starting XI throughout last season and even came close to winning David De Gea’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. But the England international’s suspension for the opening-day win at Bournemouth appears to have cost him his place, in the short-term at least, with the manager now reluctant to separate his two in-form defenders. While very few predicted the successful partnership of Blind and Bailly, history shows it is comparable with the contrasting styles that have traditionally mixed so well at Old Trafford. They’re a little like Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister in the 1990s, Treble-winners Ronny Johnsen and Jaap Stam in 1999, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand in the 2000s, or even Smalling and Blind last season. Each had different ingredients and qualities, but they came together to form a potent cocktail of defensive strength. Blind’s importance to the team will be further highlighted after the international break when he is expected to start the Manchester derby, tasked with extinguishing the fire of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in what is surely English football's biggest contest this season. It will be another test of quality and one that examines the true strength of his alliance with Bailly, as well as his own place in the XI. There's evidence to suggest our no.17 will rise to the challenge. After all, he's the man that disproved critics at Ajax who claimed his starting place was indebted to his famous father, Danny. He's the man who started 55 games at centre-back last season in spite of pundits claiming it wasn't his position, and the same man who has usurped Smalling this campaign amid media speculation that he might even depart. Yes, the season is young and it remains to be seen whether he will finish it as Mourinho's first choice, yet Blind has proven to be an invaluable member of the squad. He deserves all the praise and recognition that comes his way. |
