The recent 40 per cent hike in the exchange rate for cargo clearance at the seaports and the increase in tariff on imported cars by a terminal operator, Ports & Terminal Multipurpose Limited, has led to about 70 per cent drop in the sale of second-hand imported cars.

The PUNCH reported last week that the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Customs Service had taken the ongoing foreign exchange reforms to the maritime sector with a 40 per cent increase in the exchange rate used for calculating the import duty.

A support group of the Labour Party, has accused the chairman of the party in Lagos state, Mr. Kayode Salako of working against the party in the state.The group made the allegation in a statement published via its official Twitter handle on Saturday.

The group, which identifies itself as The Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilization 2023 Movement alleged that Salako is working for Bola Ahmed Tinub, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress,( APC) in Lagos State. The Group further said that Salako must be rooted out of Labour Party.

Recall that the Lagos Chapter of the Labour Party elected Salako, husband of popular Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola, as the new party chairman in the state in July 2022. Peter Gregory Obi CON (born 19 July 1961) is a Nigerian businessman and politician who served as Governor of Anambra from March to November 2006, February to May 2007, and from June 2007 to March 2014. In May 2022, he became the Labour Party nominee for President of Nigeria in the 2023 presidential election.
