@NaijaKing In principle you defintiely hit the nail on the head as per the need for hard work however Nigeria has not even past through an industrialisation age yet. I think we are still waiting for Yardua and his cohorts to wake up to that fact or as emiemi says a revolution Having spent my whole professional life working in the banking & consultancy field in the UK it has been an "experience" working in Nigeria. It seems that lethargy is definitely the order of the day in the vast majority of companies. On the other hand however I have found that merit & hard work does not "necessarily" push you forward in Nigeria. I get pressured everyday to put unqualified family members into positions they have no postion being in. I may not succumb but others might. I dont think anyone has an answer to Nigeria's myriad of problems, or Nigerian business or individual behavioral patterns. I just know there are a lot of them and without good leaders in place to ensure that Nigeria develops organically and in a sustained manner then we will still be on nairaland in 100 years talking about how employers are still slave drivers. |
@iukpe et al I just moved to Nigeria recently I have a PS3 and pro evo 2009, cod4, beijing olympics etc. I'm keen on getting back to online gaming, I am based in Lagos. Who are you using as your ISP? What are their speeds like and whats the cost? Thanks |
How can I get in contact with you? Email etc Thanks |
To the experts on this thread. Democrat/Promise 72 and others - I am interested in purchasing a 2004 Nissan Murano SE AWD. Buying it and shipping it I doubt will be the issue. Once in Nigeria clearing it from the port and ongoing maintenance are my primary concern. As we all know to buy a car is one thing, to maintain it is another. Two questions: How much would it be to clear the SUV? How easy is it to source parts for/service a 2004 Nissan Murano SE AWD in Nigeria (Lagos)? Any replies would be appreciated |

What a shame, na wa for this security situation in Nigeria or shall I say lack of "security situation" in Nigeria. ![]() |
@yimiton I know of one of her sons - Uzodinma Iweala - who went to Harvard with a friend of mine. His debut novel "Beasts of No Nation" published in 2005 is a formation of his thesis work at Harvard. It depicts a child soldier in an unnamed African country. He's doing quite well for himself. Another brother was at Harvard as well, he's quite a good rapper or more accurately "urban poet" (he's very philosophical). That woman is a groundbreaker in all her endeavours Kudos to Mr & Mrs Okonjo Iweala |
I hope to God that one day we will grow up and all see ourselves as Nigerians first |
Hi babycool, i agree with the other comments that the UK has a good transportation system but if you can give us an idea of where you will be based we can reply accordingly, i.e if we can assist you ourselves or if we can hook you up with some 9jah peeps based at your intended destination. ![]() |
modeM feel free to email me on obi2obi@hotmail.com. I'm no oracle but I can advise you where I can. |

*sorry redenominated, how they will manage and roll out this scheme debosky is what we have to see. One definite bonus of this is the portability effect of redenomination. The portability of the redenominated naira will make it more convenient to carry large sums of money on a person rather than in ghana must go bags. The time wasted in the counting of large sums of money and the risk involved in carrying large sums of money in nylon bags, or bulging pockets will be reduced drastically with the redenomination. It could also facilitate the introduction of of the use of vendor machines and car parking meters as well as the re-introduction of the use of coins for smaller units of money. |
@debosky, correction someone who has 1 million Naira in cash will have 10,000 as the cash will be revalued. |
A major reason for the redenomination is for accounting ease in the everyday use of the naira and to strengthen the naira in the global economy. I personally think that its a good idea if we are going to further our integration into the global economy. But on the other hand further integration will throw up many issues such as increased volatility in the capital markets. On a lighter note, whatever the case many Billionaires will become Millionaires and many Millionaires will no longer be! Which I like as psychologically a milliion naira will be almost that in the US and UK. One of the biggest issues will be management of this redenomination as change management is never an easy task. I suppose we will have to watch Soludo and his musketeers to see how far come August 2008. |
@fun j excellent work thanks for taking time out to do this, I forwarded the list to a cousin who is extremely appreciative. ![]() |
Hi guys, Seems like an interesting thread you have here. I am a Prince2 qualified Junior Project Manager in a UK based Business Process Outsourcing firm. One of our directors is from India so understandably we outsource much of our work there though we even outsource to other parts of the UK too. I believe that with the right support from central government Nigeria has potential in this field. Our competitive advantage lies in the availability of skilled labour and a our relatively low cost of labour. To obabs one threat that i can readily identify for you is the 'time zone factor'. Clients like working with us knowing of our links to India based on the fact that whilst they are sleeping in the UK, work is being completed in India. Take for instance by 12pm in the UK the time in Mumbai is almost 6am. They do the work and do it diligently. We live in an globally competitive economy, India will not be easy to beat but I believe we have potential to become world beaters but it must start at home, i.e Africa and then move out from there. I will keep an eye on this thread ![]() |

By Gods grace Kunle will not always be poor, what happens when in future he cannot have children or is tired of hiding the truth, it will eat him up and the truth will come out, you know what they say honesty is the best policy, anyway sounds like gripping stuff, keep us updated! |
The census report showed a growth rate of 3.2 per cent and a female to male ratio of 105 males to 100 females (71,709,000 males and 68,293,683 females). More choice for the females! |
