I am not an advocate for leaving a comfortable life in Nigeria and coming here to Canada, it's a matter of choice. Assuming I was working as a full staff in Shell, I would not even consider leaving. Imagine working in a multinational, you do all the work, write all the reports and somebody else takes the glory and uses it for thier promotion, just because you are a contract Staff and they are full staff it's disheartening. And then your boss tells you that it is easier to employ a new person as a full staff than to convert you from a contract Staff to full staff when you are the one that knows all the stuff.
My pay was 400k naira a month in Shell without any benefits and a fresh graduate who is a full staff that I am showing the ropes is been paid 1.3 million naira and getting all the benefits. It's not really a good feeling. So I am happy being in Canada earning a good pay, and funny enough the company I work as a security guard has also promised me a job as a Network security engineer when I am done with my masters degree. This is the kind of hope you get here.
The secret is simple, no matter the job you are doing here, work as though there is no God and pray as though there is only God.

Exactly. When my sister and her husband landed, thier earnings were below $45k a year cos they were new. The government paid her $500 for each of her children and she has 4. She didn't need any daycare cos my mum was helping out to look after them. This was in 2016. In 2017, my sister and her husband had a combined earning of $121,000. My sister used to work as an accountant in Nigeria but she is working as a social worker here. Her husband was also a contract Staff in Shell earning 400,000 naira in Nigeria. He is here working as a mechanic earning about than 3 times his pay in Nigeria. Government doesn't pay for their kids anymore cos thier household earnings is now greater than $70k.Nigerians here find ways to spend way less on expenses than people think. Trust, if you work hard here, you will succeed.
Trustme2:

That may not be true if they live withing their means and the wife is not a spendthrift. Moreover achhola are free for children from primary school to secondary school. Govt also pays $500 per child per month as children upkeep allowance

I am actually married, but she is still in Nigeria. I am in the process of sponsoring her to Canada, that's why I said I am alone here. But whether you say it's small or not, at least I am living well here and building an event center in Owerri. So I think I am just fine. When I get the paying job, then I get it.

It might seem like peanuts to you but $1300 a week in Canada after taxes is almost 7500 a month before taxes. Trust me you can live very well on this, especially if you have no debts.
Firgemachar:

$1300 is peanuts for somebody living abroad.
It only makes sense when converted to Naira.

I understand you my brother, but it's not in my place to prove anything to you. The fact you can't do something does not make it impossible, and no need for insults. You have your opinions, I have my savings. I don't normally do this but, I am gonna show my paystubs for the last few weeks from one of my jobs, just so hardworking young people will know it's possible. I get paid every week, the pay varies cos I do overtime some weeks. This is my pay after tax. For my other job, I get an average of $600 a week. All I am saying is that it is possible. I get an average of $1300 a week after tax from both my jobs, so are you telling me I can't save $4000, when I am alone here. The second picture also shows my earnings from the beginning of the year till now and tax paid. And this is just from one of my jobs. So please brother, don't be too quick to insults, if you are diligent, it is possible.
opebiboy:
You are a clown. 80% of Canadian can't even save up $4,000 in 12 months. Keep deceiving yourself and the gullible. People must be mumu for others to brainwash so you have a market.

I see post like this and I wonder. There is no first world country that you immigrate too, that you won't succeed if you work hard and are ready to know what works. I am a graduate and used to work as a contract Staff in Shell portharcourt on a Salary of 400k a month, but I left for Canada in 2016. It wasn't rosy at first, especially getting a job in my area, so I decided to dump my career for a while and I started working as a security guard in late 2017.
I was able to get 2 jobs as a security guard and right now after paying my rent, car payments and other expenses I still save $4000 a month, but mind you I work 16 hours a day, though one of my jobs is just for me to go there and sleep. You have to know why you are here, and try not to be carried away. I am working as a security guard while studying and Saving to get into Harvard Extension School next year for my masters degree. Here you have to use what you can get to get what you want. So you can actually make it, just be very diligent and focused.

My Friend, did you read her credentials? If anyone has such credentials, it doesn't matter which country you are from, you will be sort after.
SmartPolician:
Only God knows how much he will be paying to keep the woman in that position

I think this is an ego trip.

You want to brag to friends that Tony Blair's wife is on your payroll, but you will be paying Nigerian staff, who do the real work, peanuts

Life is indeed unfair

It's not like we don't have the brain, Dangote requires such people because of his plans to enter other markets. Dangote has had it difficult setting up in Europe, but a woman with such pedigree can negotiate deals that will make it possible to enter the European market. Imagine if he still decides to purchase Arsenal now that Wenger is leaving, Cherrie Blair can negotiate an awesome deal for him.

Please tell me one thing Michelle Obama has accomplished aside from being the first black first lady. ?

A Nigerian without an American citizenship rose to a position of influence and opinion shaping without ever been in politics.

You think that is not more impressive than whatever Michelle Obama has accomplished?

When was the last Michelle Obama won an award in her field of study which is law?
Her highest achievement is first lady.
Don't ever insult chimamanda by making that comparison again.

Hilary Clinton on other hand is a highly accomplished Titan.

It is not bad Belle. It would be nice if people who actually act as role models tell the truth. I live around the area, this house is at least $1.2m, the only way to afford this house outright is if you are a billionaire.
Otherwise you will have to take out a mortgage on the property. Which means you would have to make a down payment of at least $50k if you have an outstanding realtor. Then you will probably be on a monthly payment of $2500, meaning you will payout in at least 30 years. Now if the house appreciates, you can take out equity on the property which will also be a sizable amount for you. YOU CAN ONLY AFFORD THIS HOUSE, IF YOU ARE A LEGIT BILLIONAIRE, OR DRUG BARON OR FRAUDSTER OR LIAR. Let's not be carried away by people who always say thank you Lord. And let's not believe that once you come here, you will make it just like that, that only happens in Nollywood. But if you work hard, you will be successful in time.

You guys keep talking about bills and tax. Listen most of us here have 2 jobs, one job pays the bills the other job is for savings, simple. Moreover in Canada, if you earn less than 24k a year you are taxed next to nothing, or nothing at all.Tax in Canada is 16 percent of you pay. It's all about your lifestyle. I pay rent, pay my car bills, mind you I drive a 2017 Elantra, pay for my feeding, and I still have just over 4000 Canadian dollars in savings every month, cos I work 2 jobs. Meanwhile I am studying for my professional certifications while doing this. It is not a long term plan, it is just short term to make sure we are not wasting time here.
Chevronstaff:

Lol...U're quick to convert the salary to Naira but fail to calculate other expenses in the UK.. Do you know what it means to pay bills? Do you pay tax? plus other deductions At the end of the day , N500k is nothing when converted to pounds..
I will never advice a graduate earning good pay to leave Naija and move abroad to be A CLEANER OR A SECURITY GUARD...WTF

My brother, I work 14 hours a day, 6 days a week for security, 5 days a week for lot attendant. My sixth day is over time pay. Trust me when I tell you before tax and my bills, my pay from both jobs is 6300 Canadian dollars a month. After tax and my bills, I have just over 4000 dollars. Canadian dollars to naira is 282 to 1 naira. I worked in Shell for 5 years as contract staff, nothing much to show. In less than 2 years in Canada ,
I am already building an event center in Owerri. Trust me, if you are hard working, you will Excel here. And also, I am doing this even as a masters degree holder.
deji17:

Obi, which kind security work and lot attendant you dey do, wey dey give you $3,500 / month after tax and bills? You sure say your bills include payment for accommodation and car? $72k per year doing security work?

Bros you are actually not correct. I work as a security guard in Canada I also work part time as a lot attendant. After taxes and my bills I still take home an equivalent of one million naira a month. And mind you,
only my car monthly payment is 800 dollars a month, my rent is 750 dollars my other bills are about 300 dollars. I used to earn 400k in Nigeria working as a Shell Contract Staff
