. To me Jesus is the Spiritual Master for christians. In ECKankar we have the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master.
. The Bible is the holy scripture for christians, in ECKankar we have the Shariyat. Ki. Sugmad ( way of the eternal).

. . Those who want truth must make the initial effort to find the source of knowledge and approach it. They must take advantage of the help and indications which are given to all, but which people as a rule do not want to see or recognize. Knowledge cannot come to you without effort on your part.
. . Strangely, most persons feel that truth can be gained without much effort. This is wrong, for great knowledge, even in our physical life, is often hard to gather; it takes years, sometimes lifetime, to grasp the principles of medicine, painting, writing, or music.
. . Many times an individual's independent effort will gain him nothing. Truth is usually attained from those who already possess it; therefore, one should learn from those who know.

. . While living in this physical body, we are like the prodigal son sent forth from our Father's house. We have forgotten who we are, what we are, and who and what the Father is. We have wandered along the bypaths and lost our way. We have fallen and hurt ourselves, darkened the lamp of intuition, so that we no longer know why we are here. We have forgotten that we should be gaining experience in conscious awareness to become Co-workers with God upon returning to that heavenly realm. Oil and water do not mix, neither do divine Spirit and materiality of thought. We must open that spiritual awareness within and let Spirit flow through into the outer world.

. . Since perfection has no limitation, it is neither temporary nor changeable. But pleasure and suffering are conditions of material existence.

The ancient creed of ECKankar is therefore this: "ALL life flows from the Sugmad, downward into the worlds below, and through them; and nothing can exist without this cosmic current known as ECK, which can be heard as Sound and seen as Light. Therefore, it is necessary for man to always be aware of the sounds of the ECK and see the Light of the Sugmad in order to live within the highest spiritual realms."
. . This is the true belief of all ECK travelers who have visited the higher realms and traveled the path of the ECK Marg. The secret knowledge is not hidden, nor has it a pat formula. It is not something to read from a book. It is a process through which the neophyte slowly develops and prepare himself. He does not acquire the Sound and Light of the Sugmad, he becomes a part of it. He does not accept It; It accepts him.

. . Therefore, as mentioned before, the three attributes gained, or rather developed, from the practice of ECK are wisdom, charity, and freedom. Those who find their ability to leave the body raised to a level of competency learn that Soul Travel is as natural as any body function.
. . Wisdom is the first aspect of the triune virtues found in the art of coming and going out of the body. It is that knowledge gained directly from looking and knowing in the spiritual worlds. One is able to return to the Earth Plane, or any plane, and consciously put that knowledge to practical use.
. . Charity is the Christian word for love. Its meaning is that of impersonal goodwill, a detachment from emotional entanglement with others. As Rebazar Tarzs has told me, "Since the human element in man doesn't have the capacity to love everyone, then he must give his impersonal goodwill to all, but love only those whom he must!"
. . Freedom, as already described, is liberation from the body and circumstances of this earth world. We learn to live in this world, but not be a part of it. Liberation of Soul is enjoying giving It freedom to move wherever It wishes.

. . Soul Travel is the secret path to the Sugmad - the Supreme Being we know as God. ECKankar, the Ancient Science of Soul Travel, is the specific key for unlocking the secrets of the spiritual universes, although for many it does not give the same degree of satisfaction and confidence in seeking out the mysteries of Soul as do cosmic consciousness and the intellectual senses.
. . The spiritual purpose of ECK is simply to be able to reach that realm of Spirit which is known as the kingdom of heaven, where God, the Sugmad, has established Its fountainhead in the universe of universes. Hence, Soul Travel is the means that we use to return to our true home.

. . Wisdom comes through making contact with cosmic Light and Sound. This is chiefly the result of Soul experiences. When one has transcended the physical body, he eventually comes to the worlds of wisdom and love. He absorbs the spiritual knowledge which flows in and around the Soul body, which is useful in making his life better on both the spiritual planes and in the earth worlds. Anyone who successfully leaves his body and returns to it by his own initiative can validate this point.

. . Charity is the christian word for love. According to the Bhagavad Gita, charity is an impersonal love, which we give out to all men and all things. Buddha, who was a courier of God's word, taught us that we must be detached from sentiment and love all with equality. Rebazar Tarzs, the great ECK Adept, once told me while in his Nuri Sarup, or Light body, that since man does not have the capacity to love everything, it is best to give devotion to those close to him and an impersonal love to the rest of the world.

. . Freedom is liberation from the world of matter, energy, space, and time. This liberation gives us the opportunity to travel the illuminated path to the Sugmad. It gives us freedom from all physical, mental, psychic, and spiritual entanglements. We are responsible thereafter only to the Ultimate Being, who dwells above this world of human hood. We live and move under the Law of Grace.

. . Therefore, the basic principle of Soul Travel is that man is the Spirit self, that he can take charge of the Soul body and can move from the visible planes into the invisible worlds at will. When he becomes proficient at this, the beneficial results are freedom, charity, and wisdom. These are the God-qualities lying latent in each Soul, which must be brought to Soul's attention in order to unfold the true self in all Its glory.

. . Soul Travel is known by various names, Soul projection, separation of spirit from the body, out-of-the-body experience, and spiritual travelling, to name a few. Its purpose is mainly to enable Soul leave the physical body, travel through the higher spiritual worlds, and eventually arrive at Its ultimate destination - the Ocean of Love and Mercy, the true heaven, wherein dwells the Sugmad, God.
. . I could come and go in the Soul body at an age when most children are not aware of what is going on around outside themselves, but my Soul Travelling was a fact generally kept secret. In accordance with the ancient idea that such talk brings trouble with those who do not know of spiritual works, the members of our family remained silent. By the time I met my first teacher, Sudar Singh of Allahabad, India, getting out of the body was as natural as eating. However, in the time between my introduction to this eminent guru and the present, a lot of spiritual polishing had to be done, and I had to gain a necessary and deeper understanding of Soul Travel.

I finally reached the conclusion that anyone can practice out-of-body travel, whether he is under a spiritual teacher or not, although it is always better to have a guru in order to save the wear on oneself which would naturally come about in the trial - and - error method of self-teaching. Some students follow an inner master, who never shows himself on this plane in the physical form; others will find a guru in the earthly body, who spends much of his time on all planes, teaching his chelas (students) how to leave the body, and helping them if they become entangled in a morass of psychic difficulty. This is the Living ECK Master.
. . He is head of a group of spiritual teachers called ECK Masters, the Adepts of ECKankar, the Ancient Science of Soul Travel. Though they may often appear to be little different from the average person while here in the human body, their concern is to see that the individual will reach his ultimate goal - the highest of the heavens where dwells the Sugmad, Lord of All.

. . Solving Life's problems

. . No matter what problems are taken away from us, we must remember these are the worlds of time and space. Unless you have learned the detachable state, how to take life as it comes without letting it crush you, it can crush you. We are looking for the preservation and survival of Soul, not the physical body. Although we have records of spiritually evolved beings who live for centuries, most of us won't have that mission. Most of us wouldn't be strong enough to watch our close ones grow old while we stayed at the age of thirty.
. . So we are not looking for life eternal in the physical body, or the resurrection of a body which has died, hoping that someday we will be put together by some miraculous means and live forever in a reconstructed heaven on earth. Salvation isn't for the physical body, it's for Soul. Here and now, while in the physical body, we are already learning how to move into the heavens in full consciousness and come back alive.
. And why would you want to do this? To gain power over the fear of death. When you have gained this power, there is nothing that can hold you back in this life. Problems become stepping-stones, not obstacles that trip you. At this point you become a divine being; you become like the revered masters of the sacred writings. The stories of their lives have become distorted through time and glorified by legends. They too once walked this earth as people like you and me, but they learned the laws of Spirit and how to apply them to solve their own problems. This is all that I can offer you.
. I'm not offering you a life of spiritual healing that last forever, because they won't. I'm not offering you a life where prosperity will last forever. It may not. All I am offering you is a glimpse of the face of God, and personal experience in the Light and Sound of this Divine Being.
. Experiment freely with the spiritual techniques found in the ECK books. Make these exercises fit you. The path must fit you, not the other way around. It has to suit you. When it does, when you have tailored a technique for yourself which can put you in contact with the inner forces, then you truly are one of the divine beings. It's a rewarding opportunity.

. . The Law of Silence

. The Law of Silence, which means being silent about the secret teachings, personal affairs with ECK, and the personal word given in the initiations.

. The Law of Silence is one of the laws we're familiar with in ECK. It's simply this: If there's a certain truth that is very, very important for you spiritually, keep it to yourself.

. The ECK teachings remind us of the Law of Silence. If you attempt to put your experience into words, it can cause problems with those around you who do not believe you are speaking the truth. In their doubt, they will do everything they can to destroy it for you.

I cannot over emphasize the Law of Silence. Often, it is the sole determinant of who advances spiritually.

The Law of Silence is a spiritual principle that draws a very fine line. If you have an experience that may help another person understand his own, then tell it in a fitting way.
. Also be sure that telling your experience will really help that person. Sometimes we like to brag about our imagined superior spiritual development.
. You can tell when you've said too much: Your stomach will knot up; you'll feel uncomfortable. It takes some people a long time to learn to watch their own bodies as a sensitivity meter about how their words affect others. But you can learn to do it.
. The Law of Silence is easier to learn if you're more willing to just listen to others instead of having to pummel them with your great wisdom.

When God whispers Its message to us, we must keep the experience of the inner planes to ourselves or suffer for it.
. This is the reason for the Law of Silence: to let the seed of truth flower in us, and to prevent the world from stealing it from us before it can bloom.

. Law of Progressive Continuation

. One of the principles, or laws, of ECK is that there is always one more step. There is always one more heaven.

. Even the ECK Masters find the plus element in life.
. We have this mystique about masters, "the perfected ones." They're perfected at a certain level. But in the absolute sense of the word, there is always one more step to go spiritually. This applies to all the ECK Masters.
. For this reason, there are ECK Masters at one level, another level, and another level, and a higher level, and so on. There are ECK Masters with different levels of responsibility. Each one is working at his or her level, wherever they feel spiritually comfortable.

. There is always a plus element in the attainment of spiritual perfection. There is always another step to take, regardless of the achievement we have made already. If one should attain complete spiritual perfection then he would replace God, and this would be not only impossible and impractical, but highly preposterous.

. . Soul Never Sleeps

. Soul never sleeps. It is a unit of awareness. While the body sleeps, the consciousness of Soul is awake. The memory of this experience is often called a dream.
. Dreams are as real and vivid as the waking state. They simply occur on a different plane of existence. The reason so many of our dreams are confusing is that our memory becomes distorted. Upon waking, the dream experience is run through the dream censor, a function of our own mind, and we remember only pieces of the event. Or the dream is camouflage with symbols because of our discomfort or lack of understanding.

. The Dangers of Channeling

. A letter that told an interesting story came to me from a woman who lived in the southern part of the United States. She and her husband weren't ECKist at that time after the incident took place, but they were earnest seekers after truth. In their quest for spiritual growth, they joined a church group whose leaders channeled for entities from a very low area of the Astral Plane. This can be a danger for those who explore on the other side without proper guidance.
. An entity spoke through one of the church leaders and claimed to be Jesus. It introduced another entity named Emmanuel, who was to be the spirit guide for this couple. As the couple opened themselves more and more to this very low force, they strengthen the hold that this entity had over them, and it began to run their lives.
. One day the entity Emmanuel said, "You have now come to the point in your spiritual life where you will be permitted to give your home to the church. Ten of the church members will move into your house." Fortunately the couple had two houses. They vacated the larger house so the ten church members could take up residence, and moved themselves into the smaller one.
. Pretty soon Emmanuel and the other entities spoke again. "You are coming along very well in your spiritual growth," they assured this couple. "Since you have two cars, you can drive the older, blue one and give the newer one to the church members." The couple said, If this is what's needed for our spiritual growth, we are willing to drive the older blue car."
. It wasn't long before Emmanuel said, "Since you are now part of our church, you may turn over your money to us. We will give you enough of a salary to purchase your food, and will pay all your bills."
. Soon the couple discovered that the church members who had taken their money did not pay the bills, and now their house was up for sale to satisfy the creditors.
. One Saturday morning the couple talked it over, and they concluded that they had been absolute fools. They called up some friends and explained their problem, and the friends were able to back a loan so the couple could pay the bills and take their house of the market. The letter ended with, "We're older, but wiser." Their own experience was richer than anything I could have told them. My advice is, When you step onto a spiritual path, keep your hand on your wallet.





The Secret Teachings

. In The Shariyat-Ki-Sugmad, Book One, we find: "The true worlds of the Sugmad, which lie above the Atma Lok, have no complication nor mystery. They are what they are; the whole element of these worlds is simply Truth. When one has moved into these worlds and placed himself upon one of these planes, he is therefore part of them and never questions. All things are as they are because it is proper and fitting for them to be this way."
. The ECK teachings are a signpost along the road to God. The words on each sign are in accordance with the level of consciousness brought by each traveler to that point.



Wisdom of the Heart, Book 3

. . This life is all about learning lessons, our own and from those of others. Soul is like a letter. The envelope that Soul comes in is the human body, and the address reads: "To Earth." The return address: "From Heaven." The whole point about this special mailing is the letter, Soul, and hardly the envelope.
. From heaven we came, and to heaven we do return. There is no doubt we will gather experiences. That goes with the turf. The question is, how much will we gain from them?
. Do we have more understanding? How about more compassion or love?
. No matter, for we get sent back here until we get our lessons right. There is no hurry. It is up to us to decide how quickly we wish to progress. Heaven certainly does not care. We each determine our own timetable. That is the whole of it, in spite of what other religions teach.

. . Mental acrobatics or tortuous, complicated philosophical gymnastics are not required in ECK. Nor is there any necessity for a chela to pore for hours over a page or an extract from some book or writings in order to grasp what the author means. The ECKist needs none of this. The truth of God is too simple for the seeker after complexity, looking for things he cannot understand. The intellect creates its own problems and then makes itself miserable trying to solve them. Truth always express itself with the greatest simplicity.

. We live according to the Law of Plenty when we go about life with love and thanksgiving. The viewpoint that there's enough for everybody; more than enough if people know how to find the blessings of God.

. This person had a good perspective on the Law of Plenty. He felt he was rich because he had a loving mate, loving children, and a good home. He was rich in a way that probably no one else on earth would understand. Sometimes people who consider themselves rich don't have a home but they have friends. They say, "I am happy here, and I am growing spiritually." I think these are the people who are living according to the Law of Plenty.
. They have found the richness of the Holy Spirit within them. And because they have, they are the ones who go out into the world and give much more than wealth to the people they meet every day.

. CAN SOUL TRAVEL HELP WITH CAREER
. . CONFUSION


. Diana had an experience with an ECK Master that helped her in her career:
. I was moving into areas of greater responsibility at work - a real stretch from what I'd done before. I was dealing with feelings of low self-confidence, unworthiness, and fear.
. In my spiritual exercises one day, I went to a familiar healing place on the inner planes. There was a high mountain cliff - higher than anything we have in the physical world. I would sit and look over the abyss from a park bench near the edge. I felt complete peace in the slight breeze, knowing I was above my earthly worries. Sometimes the Mahanta, my spiritual guide, would come to sit with me and talk.
. This day, I sensed a presence standing nearby. I turned to see Rebazar Tarzs, another of the ECK Masters. He said, "An eagle never thinks about falling, it just flies." As he spoke the words, an eagle soared past in front of me.
. This Soul Travel experience helped me regain my spiritual sight and focus. It gave me the courage to try my wings, and I found that I could fly!

. CAN SOUL TRAVEL HELP PEOPLE HEAL?

. People receive the blessings of God's love in many different circumstances. These blessings often come from experiences that lift us above the physical world. For Kristen, it was a dream-travel experience in the form of a healing:

. I've had this knee problem for the past four years. I ran track in high school and pushed myself too much. Ever since, I've always had knee trouble. Four years ago I developed a chronic limp. I was always in pain, but it was something I'd just grown accustomed to.
. Then I had a dream where my spiritual teacher, the Mahanta, was looking at my knee. After the dream, my knee didn't hurt! I thought my knee was healed in my dream, but I kept thinking, It's not possible, it's not possible. All morning it felt normal, like my other knee. Yet it was more than I could accept as possible, so the pain returned.
. I sometimes get to this point where if something is really, really good I won't accept it or even acknowledge it's there. That was the case with this miraculous healing. Finally, I realized I just needed to accept it.
. Another dream occurred, this time with many friends around me. They were all giving me love. My knee healed once again, and this time I could accept it. The dream state is very real for me, and the experience of healing proved to be real-both in my dream, as a real spiritual experience, and in my waking life, as a much-improved health condition.


. Kristen referred to the Mahanta, her inner spiritual teacher. The Mahanta is a very special teacher, a spiritual guide who works with anyone who asks. He will not interfere in anyone's life. He is a guide and a coach for the journey into inner worlds, the many levels of heaven; he can take you safely and directly past the rocks and snares, because he has been there himself. . And what is Soul Travel? One example of it may be a near-death experience. Some dismiss these as hallucinations, but in a Reader's Digest (August 2003) article, "After Life" the writer describes out-of-body experiences that happened while a person was brain dead. There was absolutely no brain activity, so no hallucinations could take place.
. Yet Soul Travel is not just a near-death phenomenon. It can occur in day-to-day life or while asleep. Harold Klemp, leading authority and author of numerous books on Soul Travel, tells the story of Gladys. Gladys father was a Baptist minister, so of course she attended church every Sunday. During services she daydreamed and went to a place of great beauty. She knew her body was still in church, but she felt like the essential part of her was someplace else. . HOW DO I KNOW IF SOUL TRAVEL IS REAL?

. Harold Klemp explains it this way to members of ECKankar.

. You're going to have many different experiences on the path of ECK. Some of them will be as dynamic as anything you've ever experienced. Others will be like a dream. And some will be simply like figments of your imagination.
. A test of an experience is: If it helps you open your heart to divine love, to God's love, then it's a real experience.

. Only you can tell. It is an inherent sense you have as Soul. Deep down, you will know.
. In time, and with practice, it will become clear to you what's real, what opens your heart to God's love. Meanwhile, no one can question you if you don't tell them about it. Often it's best to keep these experiences to yourself. People who do so may find they have more of these special experiences.
