Human rights lawyer and former President, Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has lauded the economic and political policies initiated by President Muhammadu Buhari, noting however, that the elite are frustrating the President’s reform agenda. Speaking to newsmen in Lagos, yesterday, on the state of the nation, Agbakoba said that since May 29, there has been an economic correction in the country, as well as an ideological shift to the left to serve the people’s interest. He stated that the implementation of Treasury Single Account, TSA, quality of ministers, blocking finance leakages, social regulations, benefits and stimulus strategy, like paying employment benefits, keeping the oil subsidy, at least in the short term, and the zero tolerance on corruption, are evidences showing that President Buhari fully understands the enormous challenges facing the country. He said: “I want to warn President Buhari about the conspiracy of the elite and its resolve to frustrate his reform agenda. This elite class, made up of people in high positions in the religious circles, traditional institutions, professions and businesses, represents a small percent of Nigerians but exert tremendous influence, with a view to state capture. “This class is very dissatisfied about the ideological change of Buhari’s administration. They see the new agenda as a threat to their privileges. As set out below, they are the greatest roadblocks to President Buhari’s economic and political policy agenda.” Agbakoba, who, however, noted that the reform is yet to be felt, urged President Buhari to avoid communication lethargy in 2016, adding that the President must clearly carry the people along to inspire hope, followership, confidence and practice. He advised Buhari to create an Office for Strategic Communication to link government with the people. “There is no need to have two Press Secretaries. One may be assigned to head the Office of Strategic Communication, while the other should cover the President’s diaries,” he said. dominique:they were not repaired.no repairs whatsoever. currently, WRPC is undergoing serious repairs and hopefully should start production by December ending going by the fast pace in which the repairs are undoing but KRPC is not producing as we speak. reason is because the crude oil pipeline supplying the refinery from warri to Kaduna is been compromised but there is an ongoing repair work on those pipelines to Kaduna.without the refinery been supplied crude,we can't know were and accertain the particular units in the refinery like the FCC,TOPPING and REFORMING units that is faulty and need urgent repairs. |

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has engaged the Department of State Security Services and the Economic and the Financial Crimes Commission to stop the hoarding and diversion of petroleum products. This is contained in a statement issued by NNPC’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe, in Abuja on Wednesday. The arrangement was to assist in the monitoring of nationwide fuel truck-out to retail outlets and to stop hoarding by unscrupulous marketers. Mr. Alegbe said NNPC was doing everything possible to normalise fuel supply and distribution situation in the country. The NNPC also apologised to commuters, motorists and the general public for the hardship faced in accessing petrol across the country. It said the Group Executive Director Commercial and Investment of NNPC, Babatunde Adeniran, during a visit to NNPC depot in Suleja, warned marketers against sharp practices. “Any marketer found wanting in the sale of petroleum products, including the NNPC retail outlets, would be sanctioned appropriately. “There will be no sacred cows as the corporation is working round the clock by supplying sufficient petroleum products to marketers to ensure that Nigerians enjoyed a yuletide season without pain. “We must all make sure that petroleum products get across to Nigerians at the regulated price, especially as the yuletide season approaches. “We have enough products and we want to plead with the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) not to be involved in the diversion of petroleum products in order to avoid causing untold hardship to motorists.” The Managing Director of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, Esther Nnamdi- Ogbue, said defaulters would be sanctioned. “The DSS and EFCC will arrest any marketer involved in sabotaging government’s effort in making petrol available to Nigerians,” Mr. Alegbe said in the statement.. “We have invited the EFCC and DSS to join us in this campaign of monitoring the movement of petroleum products and they have our mandate to sanction any errant marketer, enough is enough.” The NNPC urged Nigerians to desist from panic buying, saying that there were sufficient petroleum products to satisfy local consumption. About 500 Nigerians deported from the United Kingdom arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday. According to the BBC, they were brought into Nigeria on a chartered flight from London. Some of them are said to be stranded at the airport. “One person told me that he was arrested by British police and was not allowed to even take his belongings before being deported,” the BBC said in its report. “A few of them who say they don’t have relatives here are stranded in the airport.” UK has the plan to deport 29,000 Nigerians, according to reports. The decision of the British government to send away those living in its country illegally, has generated controversy. Alexia Thomas, a a Nigeria-born British human rights activist and chairman of Commonwealth Liberation Party (TCLP), a registered political party in England, has embarked on a massive campaign to protest the decision. In a statement issued on Monday, Thomas, who gave UK an ultimatum of two weeks to rescind on the decision, described the act as an attempt to “depower colored people”. “The United Kingdom ruling government is given up till the 7th of December, 2015, to pronounce mandate to release Nigerian citizens from immigration detention centres in the UK unconditionally without compromise, or else by 9th December, 2015, they (British government) should expect Nigerian citizens to boycott British products and produce,” the statement read. “The Nigerian people will refuse to patronise British airlines and Nigerian citizens will refuse to visit British embassy or submit applications nor pay them any fees. “The British government intention is a premeditated attempt to ‘depower colored people civilization enrichment’. “Their action is war against humanity. The Queen is called upon to caution the Conservative ruling government before they bring shame to the British Kingdom as their actions to dehumanise citizens from the Commonwealth nations and treat them as third class citizens by denying them equality means third world War is looming. “The TCLP pronounces that the world is yet to recover from the second world war of 1935, that saw 15 million Jews and others lost their lives, where Jews were massacred, 100 million citizens of the world displaced and made homeless.” source: https://www.thecable.ng/500-nigerians-deported-uk-stranded

The Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalong, on Tuesday blamed Nigerian youth for aiding and abetting corruption. Mr. Dalong said the youth submit themselves to people with questionable wealth, most especially those in government. He charged the youths to play key roles in the fight against corruption rather than submitting themselves to people with questionable characters. Speaking at the opening session of a two-day National Conference on Youths Against Corruption organised by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, the minister urged them to declare war against corruption in all ramifications. He condemned what he observed as the inordinate crave for wealth by the Nigerian youth, expressing regrets that some of the youths now prefer to live large by owning expensive cars, with love to display affluence even as student leaders. Mr. Dalong asked the youth to emulate past leaders, who he said operated as the conscience of the society by speaking against bad policies of successive governments. He recalled his days in the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, when students rejected a parcel of land in a choice area of Abuja to prove they could not be corrupted. Also speaking, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Hameed Ali, told students to take possession of the fight against corruption as they had always been the victim of the vices of corruption at all times. He said the role of the youth in the fight against corruption must be paramount, reminding them to always constitute themselves into a vanguard of change for a better Nigeria. “The fight against corruption cannot be won until we adopt a different social, political, economic and religious path to living a life free of corruption. “The failures of the older generation to instill the right morals and ethics must give way to a new perspective on doing things. “Corruption must be regarded for the evil that it is and the short term benefits it provides, rejected as toxic to the stability of Nigeria,” he said. The chairman of ICPC, Ekpo Nta, expressed happiness that the Nigerian youth were now being integrated into the fight against corruption. He charged them to explore the collaboration of ICPC with them to define the role they want to play in the fight against corruption. Mr. Nta said ICPC was pleased to have the youth team up with against corruption, recalling that the decision to hold the conference emanated from the youth in the first instance. The National President of the NANS, Tijani Shehu, suggested that the conference be replicated at the zonal level to enhance a wider participation by youth across the country.
