The reason why Democrats were against the republiqan craze over voter id , is because the push will affect a lot of poor communities, and they are especially blacks and latino who can't afford the voter id to vote even when they are rightly americans, and also republiqans think voter id will stop an ex felon from voting which is inhumane, since most of these ex felons are black and latino. Paying for a voter id is just poll tax which is so wrong in many ways in a democracy. What you don't understand is the intricate details on why they now support voter id, because other packages put forth by manchin would reduce the weight on these poor communities.
Republiqans don't want poor people to vote, which is why they shamelessly gerrymander districts, and cater to the rich folks among their constituents -- because of what you might ask, Lobbying money and campaign donations.
