What I feel happened is that the plane landed and slowed down as usual and the pilot must have made a hard turn when trying to taxi to where it will stop it now turn away from the tarred runway to the sandy side that was why the nose wheel was stuck.

If you are sensible you would see that it was for Administrative convenience, because all their facilities were in Lagos Colony already so it would very costly to relocate all to Calabar.
