Romance › Re: My Experience Dating A Nigerian Police by Oceemo(m): 5:13pm On Jan 17, 2015 |
Naijasinglegirl: I met a policeman on Monday. I had stood for over 10 minutes trying to cross the highway before an elderly policeman came to my rescue. He flagged down all incoming vehicles for me to cross safely. I thanked him and proceeded to walk away but he asked for my name & place of origin. When I told him, he came up with a fable of how his grandma's sister-in-law nephew is my uncle brother cousin. Typical Nigerian behaviour of tracing your family ancestry to theirs when they need your attention. *sigh*
Then he pointed at a bar and told me to sit out with my 'village person' briefly. I stuttered on how I needed to be home in 10 minutes and all he did was take one look at me and another at his cellotaped patched gun strut around his shoulders. Who wan die? I quietly followed him.
We sat by the window. He told me to order a drink and I timidly requested for pineapple fayrouz for fear that he might arrest me if I order a fancy champagne and ibo. For where? Then he told me some unfunny jokes and I had to let out a fake laughter for fear that he might shoot me if I don't find him funny. To sum up how miserable I was, his mode of communication was unadulterated pidgin. When he noticed I was twiddling with my straw nervously, he gave me that crafty, 'relax, the police is your friend' look.
"Baby girl as you never chop here, shebi you go follow me go house go cook soup for us?" "Sir I can't oh. I have a slight fever and I feel drowsy." I replied, flabbergasted at his request. "Drowsy drowsy...drowsy." He murmured repeatedly. "Na why you for drink stout instead of this yeye sugar water so the drowsy go just commot."
"What I mean is, I feel sleepy." I said. He walked briskly to the window and pointed towards the left. "You see that catholic church. You go go my house go sleep. E no far from here. Just waka straight, enter that compound opposite that catholic church, ask for chairman house. Na me be the area commander for this side." He looked me in the eyes and smirked. "As you don become my girl, nobody fit make trouble with you for this town." Na so! One hawker passed with a bucket of buns. "Egg roll dey pass oh!" He exclaimed. " You go chop am with your mineral?" "Thank you." I said sincerely. I couldn't laugh. Apparently, the only way I could break-up with my new romantic boyfriend was to play along. I told him to give me an hour so I could go over to my house, drop my bags and come over to his for a nap. His face lightened up. He brought out a hideous walkie talkie phone and told me to input my phone number. One of those Hollywood 'Jack Bauer, do you copy' alcatel gadgets. I took his, typed mined in his walkie talkie but replaced the last digit with 4. My apologies to the unlucky person. He produced a bunch of keys and twirled out a spare for me. "Panadol dey for table for sitting room if the fever still dey do you. Shebi you go wait till I come house? I go come meet you around that kind 6. " "6 ke? Ah Oga Police don't you have armed robbers to shoot? Don't you have roadblocks to mount?" Those where my thoughts but I didn't voice them out. I nodded in affirmation and left.
I'm still with his key. I have no intentions of ever passing his lane and I'm lucky where I live is quite a distance. Here is to hoping I don't find my photo in one of those wanted posters. If that is how local a relationship with a man in uniform is, abeg abeg abeg I no want. "Egg roll dey pass oh!" He exclaimed. " You go chop am with your mineral?" LOL that got me laughing seriously I mean really serious. |

Politics › Borno Senatorial Contest: Peoples Democratic Party Drops Boko Haram Ex-governor by Oceemo(op): 1:04pm On Jan 14, 2015 |
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dropped former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff after initially adopting him as its candidate for Borno Central senatorial zone ahead of February general election.
Sheriff's name was conspicuously absent from the final list of senatorial candidates released by INEC on its website. In place of Sheriff, the INEC list contains the name of Muhammad Baba Kachalla, 49, for Borno Central senatorial district.
The PDP didn't give reasons for dropping Sheriff but it is believed that it may not be unconnected with scandals surrounding the Ex-Governor with respect to allegations made by an Australian negotiator, Stephen Davis, alleging Sheriff was a sponsor of the Boko Haram sect. Sheriff has since denied the allegation while the Department of State Security also gave him a preliminary clearance after it paraded some seven men the DSS alleged conspired with Davies to tarnish Sheriff's image. The DSS had however said that it was still investigating Sheriff.
The PDP had soon after the DSS clearance of Sheriff adopted the Ex-Governor as the party's Senatorial candidate for Borno central which Sheriff had represented from 1999 to 2003 under the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) that later became All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before merger with other parties to become the All Progressives Congress (APC). Sheriff contested Borno Governorship as an incumbent Senator in 2003 and won the elections. He was Governor from 2003 to 2011. He defected to PDP in 2014 after failing to take control of the APC that was formed months before his defection.
Former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff
The Borno PDP had adopted Sheriff as a consensus candidate, following consultations among stakeholders in a trade off between old members of the party and new entrants that made up Sheriff's group. The old members produced the Governorship candidate, one Senatorial, four House of representatives and 9 State Assembly candidates and conceded 2 Senatorial, 6 Reps and 18 State Assembly candidates to Sheriff's group in addition to the Deputy Governorship. However after the party settled for Gambo Lawan as Governorship candidate from the old PDP group, Ex-Governor Sheriff allegedly worked with the Presidency to replace Lawan with a loyalist of Sheriff, making the new entrants to take over the PDP from the old members they met in the party, made of over five former Ministers, two former Governors and former Senators.
The old PDP's Gambo Lawan has since filed a suit at a Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging his substitution with Mohammed Imam from Sheriff's group. The case is yet to be decided. Meanwhile, majority of the old PDP members have shunned all campaign activities being organized by the Sheriff group ahead of the elections, a situation that indicates a deepened crisis within the Borno PDP.
Facts emerged that the PDP's decision to drop Sheriff was because the party was fed up with controversies surrounding him. It would be recalled that last year, the Presidency was under serious heat when the photograph of Sheriff with President Goodluck Jonathan and Chadian President Idriss Derby in D’Jamena, the Chadian capital, appeared in the social media.
The pictures provoked debate and condemnation by critics and opposition political parties. The Presidency explained that Sheriff was not part of Dr. Jonathan’s entourage, adding that he received the visiting President like other Nigerians resident in Chad. |

vigasimple: Only the truth will set us free in this country. Unfortunately we do not like the truth. All the problems in those posters only happen under the GEJ administration ?
APC is a party that thrives in propaganda, intimidation, Bullying and blackmailing.
The greatest problem we have are Tribalism, Religion, untruthfulness, born to rule mentality of the Fulani's and lack of historical perspective.
The North is dragging this country down big time and packaged it as GEJ government failure.
Majority of northern leaders are selfish and deliberately backward in order to control and keep their people in perpetual bondage of ignorance.
EDUCATION EDUCATION EDUCATION . policy failure including Bhuari lack of vision create millions of Alamajiri in the North which the whole country are paying for today.
Bhuari has no vision of any kind other than 'fighting corruption". You cannot fight something successfully without fighting the root cause.
All APC are doing is what we call political sound bites for ignorant people. Oga or mallam abi mazi wch one anyway. Who is more ignorant like u? Or mayb u benefiting from d said government if not u are d real ignoramous times 1000000. |

Toks2008: PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, A VICTIM OF AVOIDABLE MEDIOCRITY.
Your excellency,i salute you sir on your courage to lead the most populous black nation on earth and i must state the fact here that you are indeed favored by GOD and i really thank GOD for your life because on November 20, 1957, when a peasant farmer named Jonathan and his wife gave birth to a baby boy at their humble homestead in Otuoke, they never imagined that the boy would become famous beyond the rural confines of Ogbia kingdom. Not for once did it occur to them that this boy would one day become the first Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State rising, by dint of hard work and the intervention of fate, to become Governor of same sate and within few years rise to become the vice president and subsequently the president of the most populous black nation in the world,a position many have died in the bid to occupy but was handed over to you on a platter of diamonds.
Sir,before i continue,i would like you to check my records at INEC and you will find out that four years ago,i voted for you with such a great passion and even mobilized many people to do same in and outside my family but today,i weep not because i regret casting my vote for you but because many people who i influenced to vote for you now look at me in such a way that usually makes me wonder why i had to involve them in making same mistake.
I must also state that i am not a pro Buhari and i have absolutely nothing against you as a person and that is why i will never make the mistake of cursing you because as a thorough breed Yoruba man,i am trained never to talk down on people especially the elderly.
Nevertheless,i want to state emphatically that in my humble opinion as well as that of many Nigerians,YOU HAVE FAILED US and you have allowed yourself to become a victim of avoidable mediocrity because for 6years you have made mockery of that exalted seat especially in the area of corruption and insecurity which have characterized your administration.
In a country where graduates die like chickens in the bid to get a job after going through the stress of acquiring a degree, where millions live below 1usd per day, where the masses suffer because of gross incompetence of the people at the elms of affairs, where million of lives have been lost to insurgency,i will start by asking you just two questions out of countless ones that may need urgent answers through any of your spokes men and maybe a logical answer to these questions might just make me and millions of Nigerians risk that mistake once more by voting for you come February 14th.
1.As the commander in chief of all the armed forces in Nigeria, can you tell us in clear terms why you have not been able to curb the insurgence of Boko haram to the bearest minimum despite the intelligence we have and the resources available to the government.
2. Why is it still difficult till this moment why Nigerians still do not know what happened to the missing $20billion crude oil money which is over N3.2thrillion which is equivalent of the 2009 national budget gone just like that.
Mr president,do you have an idea what can be done with this money? do you know that this money alone can transform the economy of this country and bring a new lease of livelihood to million of Nigerians in just one year?
Mr president,we love you so much but loathe your governance and we will not hesitate to try another hand whether he is old, uneducated, forgetful, sick and so on,we will not hesitate this time around to experiment once again just the same way we gave you the chance.
Of what use is it if we have an educated president who can not give us succor but will have the guts to inflict pains and hardship on us so lackadaisically?, and i will never forget how you woke up on the 1st of January 2012 to increase pump price by over 100% and i can only wonder what sought of human will do that.Of what use is it when we have a Phd holder who can not administer proper governance for 6years and of what use is it if we have a young man who have surrounded himself with charlatans and have intentionally made himself a victim of avoidable mediocrity?
Yes we know Buhari is an old man,yes we know he is an illiterate as claimed by some people, yes we know he may have ill-health and yes we know he is so forgetful that he can not remember his phone number but nevertheless,i believe that logically speaking,an old man with a presumed ill-health will do what he can to leave a good legacy knowing he has little time left on earth.
We are not saying Buhari is the messiah neither are we saying that he has the magic stick but for just two years that he was the head of state,Nigerians can attest to his doggedness in fighting corruption and if in 6years of your leadership, we have only seen same corruption been legalized with indicted individuals refusing to resign and acting with unequal impunity, people with criminal records been chosen by you as appointees, the best we can do is to try another hand.
If after 4years Buhari does not give us a good reason to retain him, we will vote him out.
For 16years we have tried the PDP government and a girl child born 16years ago by stroke of rare fate would have given birth to another and it is unfair for a mother and child to suffer same wicked fate.
We are tired of mediocrity,we are tired of excuses,we are tired of lackadaisical governance. WE NEED A CHANGE.
Those days of rigging are gone, we are wiser now,its time for us all to use the power we have which is our voting power to create the change we need. bro u hit d nail on d head love ur piece that's jst d truth. I remember 2011 very well cus I was an electoral officer how we all want d man called Goodluck 2 win but 2day see. D thing is that am confuse abt naija.
