PoliticsOsun Election: Tribunal orders substituted service on INEC, Oyetola by ochejoseph(op): 7:39pm On Oct 23, 2018
The reconstituted Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has ordered the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to serve his petition and other court processes on the respondents by pasting it on the notice board of the tribunal.

The Justice Muhammad Sirajo-headed tribunal gave this order at the sitting in Osogbo on Monday following an ex parte application for substituted service filed before the panel by Adeleke and the PDP.

The petitioners had prayed the court to grant them the leave to serve the Independent National Electoral Commission; the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, and his party, the APC, through substituted means since they were allegedly evading service.

The application was moved by counsel for the PDP candidate, Mr Nathaniel Oke (SAN).

The petitioners’ counsel prayed for “an order of this honourable tribunal granting leave to the petitioner/applicants to serve the petition, court orders, hearing notices and all other processes already filed and to be filed in this case on the second and third respondents through substituted means by pasting the said petition, court orders and hearing notices and all other processes already filed and to be filed in this case on the notice board of this honourable tribunal.”

The petitioners also sought the court’s permission for their forensic experts and statisticians to scan and obtain certified true copies of election materials.

The tribunal, in a ruling read by Justice Peter Obiora, granted the prayers.

The court ordered that the petitioners shall pay the requisite statutory fees and that the inspection and examination of the documents shall not be done by the petitioners in the absence of the respondents.

The tribunal added that the respondents shall each send two persons to be present and observe the inspection and examination of the documents.

Recall that the earlier panel, headed by Justice T. A. Igoche, was disbanded last week and a new panel, comprising Justices Sirajo, Obiora and Adeboye Gbolagunte, was reconstituted to take over the hearing of the petitions.

PoliticsUsman Yusuf: 'Only Buhari Can Sack Me' - NHIS Boss Resumes Work by ochejoseph(op): 10:54pm On Oct 19, 2018
The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusuf, who was suspended indefinitely by the governing council of the NHIS on Thursday, resumed work on Friday, ignoring the resolution of the council, Saturday PUNCH can confirm.

It was learnt that Yusuf resumed at the head office of the agency in Abuja around 10am to the surprise of members of staff.

In a memo with reference number NHIS/ES/091/1/192, signed by Yusuf and addressed to the chairman of the council, Dr Enyantu Ifenne, the Executive Secretary said only President Muhammadu Buhari could suspend him.

Citing sections 6, 7 and 8 of the NHIS Act, Yusuf said the council only had the powers to manage the scheme and other related activities, adding that he had not even been informed of the petitions written against him.

The memo read in part, “As you are aware, by virtue of Section 8 of the NHIS Act, my appointment, like yours, is at the instance of the President, while the council’s power of appointment is limited to directors and other employees of the scheme.

“It is, therefore, ultra vires or the council to suspend or purport to suspend me from office to the extent that the said suspension is the prerogative of Mr Area of SMF.”

In her reaction, the chairman of the NHIS board acknowledged receipt of the memo on Friday.

Chairman of the NHIS board, Dr Enyantu Ifenne, however, expressed shock over Yusuf’s decision to defy the council.

She said, “Let those who hide under the cover of the Presidency to protect corruption know that Nigerians are keenly watching. I am convinced that if President Buhari is fully briefed about a tenth of Yusuf’s atrocities, he will throw him out.”

At a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Ifenne had accused Yusuf of insubordination, fraud, arbitrariness and other corrupt practices.

She had announced his indefinite suspension and appointed Sadiq Abubakar as the acting Executive Secretary.

Politics2019: Yoruba Youths Set Agenda For Atiku by ochejoseph(op): 9:20am On Oct 19, 2018
As political parties strategise for the 2019 general election, the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide has called on the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to prioritise his programme if he emerges president in 2019.
The president of the group Oladotun Hassan, who made the call Thursday in Lagos, said Nigerians would not stop complaining until the economy, fiscal federation, security, education and infrastructure were repositioned.
Hassan, a lawyer, said that the PDP candidate must set out as an advocate for the rule of law if he wins the 2019 presidential election.
The youth leader said that the restructuring agenda must be faced head on with setting up of a National Restructuring Affairs Commission with an Executive Bill.
“He (Atiku Abubakar) must be able to summon a greater patriotic will towards building and reviving our dying nation from economic stagnation and social insecurity.
“He must be able to implement the 26 per cent UN budgetary standard allocation to the education sector with a view to postulating and establishing a statutory principle of law by enacting the Education Right Bill into law.
“He must be able to have a master plan for transportation development from roads network development programmes,” he said.
According to him, the establishment of a National Transport Park and Fares Management Authority is expected to regulate the amount spent daily on transport fares by Nigerians.
He added that Atiku also needed to quickly review the Land Use Act laws into Land Licensing and Allotment Law via an Executive Bill, wherein all lands right must revert back to the land owners and communities.
Hassan said that the government would only regulate its operations and management, while the Certificate of Occupancy and Consent should be replaced with Land Certificate of Ownership Licence.
“Also, the government must be ready to equip youths by granting 40 per cent youth affirmative action plan on appointment and involving the Nigerian youths in his government.
“There must be a robust vocational training programme in information technology, agriculture and other ancillary training, which will place and rank Nigeria as first world nation via economic revolution plan.
“Security architecture needs a total overhaul and ensure absolute neutrality in the discharge of their statutory duties,” he said.
The youth leader said that more emphasis should be placed on rebuilding peace and national orientation on patriotism.
He said that Atiku must choose a South-west youth with intellectual acumen for economy and law as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation since the zone lost the position of running mate.
According to him, paying attention to the above issues and adequate representation of youths will galvanise support for PDP come 2019.(NAN)

Sun Newspaper has just withdrawn its earlier publication in which it falsely claimed that gov Ugwuanyi of Enugu state rejected the appointment of Mr Peter Obi as the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and opted to work for President Muhammad Buhari reelection bid.

According to the statement signed by the Editor of Sun Newspaper, the publication titled, "Why South East govs, leaders moved against Obi as Atiku’s vice,” published in our sister publication, Sunday Sun, we erroneously stated that Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is vehemently opposed to the choice of former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, as running mate to PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that he vowed to work for President Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election next year."

The news media therefore said, "We have discovered that our reporter did not get his facts right. PoliticsVote For Credible Leaders, Titi Abubakar Urges Women by ochejoseph(op): 4:14pm On Oct 13, 2018
Chief Titi Abubakar, wife of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, urged women to vote for credible leaders in the 2019 general elections.

Abubakar, who is also the founder of Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation, said this while speaking at the 2018 Diocesan Women Conference of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Abuja.

The 19th annual conference had the theme “Be a living epistle”.

She advised women to participate actively in the forthcoming election and also contest for leadership positions.

She said, “Through this, we shall raise a generation of conscientious leaders, who will have the fear of God in them to do all the needful to develop our dear nation.

“We as women must rise up to the task of reshaping our country by providing our intuitive ideas to support the development of Nigeria.

She further challenged women to raise children, capable of taking leadership positions in the future.

“We must endeavour to raise good children and of course inspire them to do the same to their children.

“Trust me my dear women; for Nigeria? There is Hope!”

In what appears to be an earthquake readers and followers of Northern Nigeria's only surviving newspaper (Daily Trust) on whose platform the APC has won every single opinion poll in the last 4 years. (2014- 2018) appears to have dumped Buhari of the ruling party for Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.

Atiku in an opinion poll launched by the newspaper earlier today had almost tripled the votes of President Mohammadu Buhari at the time of posting this thread.

Before his fall from grace to grass, Buhari had a cult-like follower-ship in northern Nigeria and had won every Daily Trust Poll ever conducted. However even with the advantage of retweet button allocated to him by daily trust which gives him a double advantage over Atiku with the like Button the aged General appears to be no match for the Wazirin Adamawa.

PoliticsOlusegun Obasanjo To Endorse Atiku Abubakar Eventually - SR by ochejoseph(op): 2:34pm On Oct 09, 2018
EXCLUSIVE: Obasanjo To Eventually Endorse Atiku

“Baba believes that Buhari is too rigid, and you know Baba said long time ago that Buhari should go and rest in 2019,” a source close to the Owu-born politician told SaharaReporters on Tuesday. “Yes, Atiku and Baba have a history. But these days, he has been saying Atiku, despite all his foibles, will at least create more jobs and help to revive the ailing economy.”

Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP), is gradually making headway in his mission to win the heart of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, SaharaReporters can report.

Obasanjo is not the biggest fan of Atiku’s, the duo having endured a fractious relationship for more than a decade, starting from the latter years of their Aso Rock reign.

“How can I be on the same side with Atiku? To do what?” he had asked.

“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support. I do not have personal grudges with anyone. If you do not do well for Nigeria, you do not do well for all of us.

“It is not a question of working with or not working with an individual. “If you are working for the good of Nigeria, I am working with you. If you are not working for the good of Nigeria it does not matter who you are I am not working with you.”

To Atiku’s credit, he launched a charm offensive on his former boss minutes after he was declared winner of the PDP presidential primary on Sunday, telling the crowd towards the end of his acceptance speech: "Finally, on a personal note, I wouldn't have been standing where I am today if my former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, had not made me his Vice President.

"Under his tutelage, I learnt quite a lot, and I believe the experience I have got is going to impact on how I eventually govern this country. I wish to pay my personal tribute to him."

SaharaReporters now understands Obasanjo’s hard stance against Atiku is gradually softening, and he is poised to “eventually endorse Atiku”.

Since leaving office in 2007, Obasanjo has publicly backed or rejected an incumbent or incoming President.

He rejected Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 while endorsing Buhari; however, in January 2018, he rejected Buhari’s re-election bid with a ‘letter bomb’.

PoliticsOsun Rerun: See Why Omisore’s Statement Is The Final Nail On Apc’s Coffin by ochejoseph(op): 5:12pm On Sep 26, 2018
What Omisore Said and what It means for Adeleke Tomorrow

The last time i met Omisore was in the lead up to re election of a governor from the North, he had come to show support to a colleague he had known for many years . One thing that has defined the political career of the former Deputy Governor of Osun state is his persistent decision to always stand with the oppressed. A proper X- ray his statement released earlier today shows that nothing has changed. An extract of the statement is presented below:

Omisore firmly states that he will never renege on his promise of good governance, accountability and human dignity in Osun state.”

“I am telling my people that they should go with any political party that believes in what we in the SDP stand for: good governance, social justice and accountability. I have already detailed how we planned to restore Osun to the path of good governance through the five thematic pillars in the manifesto I shared during the electioneering. I will not negotiate for personal gains and abandon my people.

"My alliance is with the people of Osun state irrespective of the political party they belong. I want my people to be treated with the dignity they deserve. I desire that they have a government that will be accountable to them. I want them to experience the good governance the founding fathers of this state envisaged.

Source : http://saharareporters.com/2018/09/26/

The Five Major Things Omisore Wants For his People In Osun

ACCOUNTABILITY

The Outgoing government of Osun state is one of the most unaccountable in the History of Nigeria. Although domiciled in Osun the government of the state of Osun as it wants to be called, throughout its lifetime was only answerable to the “Lord” of Bourdilon and never to the good people of Osun it was meant to serve.

On the 6th of January 2018, Omisore said “Osun government remains unaccountable for the Paris Club refund, yet it has the audacity to present a budget it can neither fund nor execute. The examination of the feasibility and credibility of public sector budgets is a matter for everyone, in which the current Osun state budget not only an indication of incompetence and bankruptcy, but also reflects absolute lack of knowledge of public financing and appropriations process.

“It remains very sad that after almost 8 years of the Rauf Aregbesola-led APC government in the state, its leadership still whines in its incompetent game of blaming previous administration, a glaring sign of its inability to respond to the budget issues raised”,Omisore stressed.

When it comes to ACCOUNTABILITY it appears Omisore has already told his People to Vote Adeleke and PDP

GOOD GOVERNANCE

According to Wikipedia, good governance is an indeterminate term used in the international development literature to describe how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources. Under APC, Osun state became the poster child for bad governance and misplaced priorities. A citadel of white elephant projects despite over 500 Billion in Debt.
This is what Omisore has to say about APC when it comes to GOOD GOVERNANCE[b] " My ultimate ambition for seeking to govern the state is predicated on the determination to set the state free from the economic bondage and bad governance foisted on the state by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2017/04/ambition-set-osun-free-bondage-bad-governance-omisore-replies-apc/amp/

HUMAN DIGNITY

When you ask a Nigerian to name two state where the peoples suffering is palpable despite huge allocations, Osun will likely be on their lips , it is a state where PhD holders and university professors have resorted begging to mark WAEC scripts just to feed their families owing to the nonpayment of salaries for years.
The story of a mother of six aptly describes the pitiable condition and the hardship the people are currently living under. This mother went to a market far from her area, to buy foodstuffs, and she had to give one of her children in exchange. Unknown to the seller, the family had been starving for days before this woman took this decision to save her remaining children from hunger. Thanks to overloaded contract sums for White elephant projects.

Source: https://www.naija.ng/amp/882534-aregbesola-may-soon-stoned-people.html

I Will Not Negotiate for Personal Gains

The decision of Dr Omisore not to negotiate with APC for personal gains despite being offered Immunity from EFCC, ministerial slot and or Senatorial ticket underscores his disdain for the havoc APC wrecked on Osun for 8 years.

Many in Osun think the battle against those who foisted hunger on the people is already won but that will be a huge mistake!!! A leprous finger from your tormentors tomorrow can alter the table and foist modulated salaries on you for another 4 years so tell everyone who needs to vote to go out and ensure that light prevailed over darkness.

The Decision before the people of Osun tomorrow and the voters in the remaining polling units where elections will take place is between

1. Unpaid salaries of the APC and the prompt payment of Salaries

2. A choice between a party that is known for massive job creation and a party that promised 3 million jobs annually but ended up sending over 4 Million Nigerians to the unemployment market in a single year.

3. The decision the voters will make tomorrow is between a party that promised innocent children school feeding with nothing on their plates after 3.5 years and a party that built 12 universities in 2 years which today admits thousand of admission seekers and employ thousands of graduates including the returning officer of Saturdays election.

Omisore has told his people what to do it’s up to them to complete the good work they started on Saturday!

May God the maker of Heaven and Earth, help the good People of Osun to help themselves!

May God Bless The Federal Republic of Nigeria

Politics2019: PDP’s Candidate Must Be Prepared To Be President From Day 1 - Maibasira by ochejoseph(op): 3:28pm On Apr 07, 2018
2019: PDP’s Presidential Candidate Must Be Prepared To Be President From Day One Without Any Excuses - Abdullahi MaiBasira

Congratulations on your election as National Financial Secretary of the PDP.

Thank you, to God Almighty be the Glory. I dedicate my emergence to all young members of the party who supported my stewardship as National Youth Leader.

Does your elevation from National Youth Leader to National Financial Secretary signal that young people are getting the desired recognition in PDP?

I should align myself with that thinking and notion. But remember, PDP has always been a youth friendly political enterprise. I am a living example. At 30, I was elected National Youth Leader. At 34, I was elected as National Financial Secretary. For a big party like the PDP to invest such responsibility on one of its very young members, the party must truly be youth friendly. We had young ministers like Dr. Nurudeen from Jigawa, we enacted the Nigerian Youth Parliament to identify and train young people in leadership, we believed in and promoted 35% youth inclusion, one of our own members, Hon. Tony Nwulu is the arrow head for the Not-Too-Young-To-Run Bill that seeks to reduce age for elective offices, the youngest Speaker of any of the Houses of Assembly is PDP. Remember also that in 2015, we gave the country it's youngest candidate for Governorship, the youngest serving Senator is PDP, the list is endless. Very soon, this NWC shall launch the PDP's GenerationNext project.

Should young people get more involved in politics and elective position?

If we fail or refuse to show interest, partake or play a part in the political process, then we would be failing in our present and future responsibility. We have no option than to be involved. I invite youths to seek elective offices, because without representation or having a seat on the table, our ability to influence outcomes and policies is greatly reduced. For me, youths should be supported by mentorship, career apprenticeship, capacity building and transfer of responsibility. It is accepted that young people have ingenuity, energy, drive and capacity for knowledge acquisition. If I choose to be in business or politics or governance, I should learn the ropes, infuse ideas and innovation to change situations. The fact is that this country as a whole, our body polity, institutions, structure and foundational elements require new thinking, new methods and definitely strong leadership. Our development and economic growth must keep pace with our population growth.

At the December National Convention, your party resolved its leadership problem, and 2019 general election is just around the corner, do you think it’s possible to return to power without political realignment going by what ACN, CPC, nPDP and some parts of APGA did in 2014?

We must give credit to the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court for granting justice. The fact is that the PDP has gone through its most turbulent period. That was a period that was characterized by internal challenges and it was also a test of the provisions of our own constitution.

Even though political evolution is dynamic, the prevailing circumstances is not completely similar to that in 2014. In 2014, there was no dominant opposition party. In 2018, PDP is still the dominant alternative. We must allow democratic institutions like the political parties to grow. And growth has a learning curve. The idea of changing parties, or trial and error is not what Nigeria needs at present. We need everyone on board, even across party lines, to provide a serious and forward thinking government for this country. The PDP is open to inter party discussions that will alter the current trajectory of this country for the better.
Also, in my opinion, and this is my own very personal opinion, the present political course does not warrant a coalition in the like and manner of 2014. With 140 members and 43 Senators, and coming with a history of running elections and national government; the PDP is poised to have a successful outing in 2019. The 2014 political coalition is also yet to prove that this type of "coalitions" can lead to performance when elected into government.

Do you believe restructuring is the solution to Nigeria’s problem?

First, no system is perfect. Second, let us realize that the governing system of any country has a relationship with its history, cultures, make up and in some instances, its ideological preferences. Third, no matter how well structured a system is, the people who manage the system should even be better than the structure itself. Regional, even tribal sentiments seem to have clouded the objective subject of restructuring. The concept and matter mean different things to different people. Personally, I believe that there are certain national foundational issues, norms and tenets that either need to be strengthened, reset, adjusted or all together discarded to enable us unleash the fullest potentials of this country. It appears to me, and maybe to a lot of discerning eyes, that there are fault lines in the current system being operated that needs objective and patriotic rethinking. I belong to the school of thought that the present bicameral legislature, three tier of government with 36 states and 774 local councils, and this presidential system is simply too expensive for Nigeria to run. To me, the system is not tailored towards developing a country but payment of wages. The wastages are near infinite and the leakages incalculable. We cannot run a government that thrives on payment of salaries, wages and other recurrent expenses and expect magic. Simply put, this present system thrives at the expense of development of the country. About 75% or even more of our National budget is recurrent. We need a smart, effective and efficient government system that provides for savings, infrastructural investment, business and private sector growth, education and research focused and allows for real development of the federating units. At present, we don't have finances to invest in Infrastructure, military, human capital, education, agriculture, research and health. We have too many agencies and authorities with overlapping responsibilities probably working far below expected efficiencies. The purpose of government is to create a conducive environment for businesses to grow, for private enterprise to flourish, for people to live the pursuit of their happiness, for welfare and for security. I doubt if the present arrangement, in anyway and under any guise supports this. But one thing is that the unity of Nigeria, as we know it, can't be under discussion.

So what is the quality a PDP presidential flagbearer must poses?

I am not in a position to list qualities before I get misquoted out of context. But as party administrators, the NWC is committed to ensuring a level playing field and upholding the tenets of a free, fair, just and credible process. We simply have no option than to deliver a transparent presidential convention. For us, the candidate is as good as the process itself and must be ready and prepared to be President from day one without any excuses. I am convinced that PDP can give a credible and well prepared candidate. As the leading opposition party, we must provide a better alternative. For me it is a matter of who would best handle the issues confronting us presently and into the foreseeable future. Economy, education, jobs, unity of the country, national security threats, decaying infrastructure, governance structure of the country, transfer of leadership, human capital development and the unholy high cost of running governments should top the list of issues that will shape the 2019 election. Any serious contender for the leadership of Africa's most important country must simply be ready from day one.

What are your political plans after your present tenure at the Party?

My immediate concentration is to deliver on this mandate, praying God Almighty will see us through successfully. Whatever follows will be the design of providence.

Chronicles of Catalan : Five Lessons I learnt From Paddy Adenuga's Memoir

One thing that Paddy's memoir thought many ignorant Nigerians like my self was that Paddy Adenuga was not the spoilt, overbearing, and unintelligent fellow that the Nigerian media have painted over the years. As I read through his Chevron Netherlands acquisition dairy, I pictured a young Nigerian that exemplifies the true Nigerian spirit of never giving up, a young Nigerian transforming his education, training, and contacts into an idea that would have revolutionized the way oil and gas business is conducted on the continent.

Going through his write up to me was like attending Harvard Business school through the back door, the whole business concept of Catalan, and the openness with which he described his failures and willingness to accept responsibilities for them makes the chronicles of Catalan a good read for African businessmen and women with interest in becoming big players in the Oil and gas sector on the continent with one of the largest proven oil and gas reserves in the world.

Lessons From Paddy

1. Unlike many rich kids and heir to riches, Paddy had the courage to strike out on his own and build a business that was bigger than anything he has ever attempted.

Lesson: All rich kids are not the same ; the fact that he/ she is from a rich home does not mean he/she is not intelligent, ambitious or hardworking.

2. Although born with a silver spoon, here was a golden boy, uncomfortable with sitting back and getting a golden pass through life. He swapped the largest Indigenous mobile telecommunications operator with a five man start up to pursue his dreams.

Lesson: Riches does not necessarily make you fulfilled

3. He was willing to venture and travel into unfamiliar territories outside his comfort zone in search of new opportunities instead of "feasting" on his fathers empire.

Lesson : There are certain things you will never learn in your comfort zone

4. The Edgar and Remi component of the memoir showed that experience and relationships still matters a lot in business, and that although he has managed companies at the highest levels, he was not immune to making bid wrecking and business crumbling mistakes.

Lesson: You may never get help if you refuse to ask.

5. The Catalan Management advice against his guts is a reminder to business tycoons and entrepreneurs that sometimes its pays to trust your instincts.

Lesson: It takes more than best brains to succeed in business.

As an avid reader and author, I have chosen to share this few but powerful lessons I have learnt from Paddy's chronicles praying that perhaps , Nigerians who hate long reads like me sometime ago will somehow learn from a Nigerian who has chosen to share his memoir with us with the hope that we will learn from the mistakes of his near acquisition of Chevron Netherlands and just like his father we will one day share in his joy and accomplishments.

PoliticsLetter Of Appreciation To Aisha Buhari – By Dele Momodu by ochejoseph(op): 1:28pm On Jan 21, 2018
PENDULUM | Letter of Appreciation to Mrs Aisha Buhari – By DeleMomodu

Your Excellency, let me start by telling you that this letter is not intended to flatter you but to show my profound appreciation, and that of so many like minds, for your uncommon sagacity at a time it seems wisdom has taken leave from most people in our dear beloved country and they are more engaged in flights of fancy. You are a classic example of that adage that says “behind every successful man is a woman.” Let me assure you that you are in a class of your own. And I thank God for blessing Nigeria with your kind.

I decided to write this letter only yesterday when I came across your tweets, or retweets, of the Oak Television videos that have since gone viral. I have never seen any wife of a Nigerian President who would openly criticise a government in which she is a major beneficiary. I’m even more surprised that you would voluntarily endorse and promote videos that criticised your government on social media. You may not know it but you’re setting new standards in our country. You shall be called a quintessential pacesetter, when tomorrow comes. I have no doubt that no matter what, when all is said and done, and the present administration is long gone, you would have left behind a positive enduring legacy, an epitome of womanhood and wifely rectitude. My prayer continues to be that we will be able to say the same of your husband, our dear President Muhammadu Buhari, notwithstanding the fact that he now has little time to address and redress so many shortcomings.

I’m certain that if your husband had listened to your wise counsel much earlier he would have, probably, averted the mess in which he is currently enmeshed. Your husband rode to power with so much love and goodwill, the type we’ve not experienced since June 12, 1993, when Chief Moshood Abiola won the Presidential election, fair and square. The expectations were very high, in a similar fashion, in 2015, when majority of the voters, including former critics of your husband chose to support or vote for him. His was a miraculous resurrection. No one expected him to waste such humongous goodwill at all and, nevertheless, not so soon after his return to power. But before we blinked our eyes, things had started falling apart. It took forever to assemble his team. And when he finally did, many wondered why they could not have been selected much earlier, given the nature and calibre of people selected. Indeed, it was as if Nigerians expected that your choices were going to descend from heaven and some angels were going to be appointed. The government started losing steam and stamina from that moment.

Not just that. Your husband’s ruling Party, APC, started a war of attrition in the National Assembly. Some of his biggest supporters were suddenly pounced upon and humiliated publicly while your husband kept a straight poker face, as if he knew nothing or it was not any of his business. This fierce battle inadvertently united and aligned some of his own party faithful with the opposition and they even succeeded in sharing very powerful positions with them. I’m sure your husband had been misled into thinking he still had the power of life and death like he did as a military Head of State after the overthrow of the Shagari regime in 1983. He also forgot an important characteristic of Nigerians, our ability to forgive and forget easily. The same Nigerians who would shout “crucify him” today are the same people who would scream “don’t kill him” for various reasons, ranging from ethnicity to religion or even pecuniary gains. There is also the quotalisation of corruption, a situation where stealing enjoys Federal Character.

As if that was not bad enough, the Nigerian economy suffered its worst cataclysmic fall in decades, perhaps, because of the ill-informed decision of your husband’s government to ban people from depositing United States Dollars into their accounts. As interpreted by laymen like me, a country that desperately needed an injection of foreign exchange into its Central Bank was actually rejecting the medicine it badly needed. Maybe this was the beginning of the end. All manner of freaky controls followed. Kids who were schooling abroad began to suffer untold hardships. Those with scholarships from home were being dishonoured. I remember writing a memo to the President begging him not to offend those kids. Education had always been a major investment in Nigerians and any attempt to deprive our youths the best education at home and abroad was an invitation to trouble. Before the decision was properly sorted, many young people had given up on this government to protect their future. In a country that found easy money for pilgrimages, it was very unfortunate that education was never a priority.

You blew me apart when you found your voice and spoke up openly and candidly and lamented the way your husband’s government was shattering into smithereens. You were in a position to know, and very right to tell the whole world, that your husband was not in charge and that if the situation continued unabated, you were not likely to support his second term bid. Though you were told to mind your own business at the time, the point had been made so eloquently and poignantly. Today, and looking back, it seems, you’re indeed a prophet without honour at home. Everything you said has become gospel truth.

One more example of your admonition to our President. Why would he abandon the key figures who made his winning the election possible? Those Party Chieftains who ensured his electoral victory were either studiously ignored or conveniently abandoned. It was as if the President had laboured alone on what had been a remarkable collaborative effort. As you rightly noted, Ma, the people you started seeing in the Presidential villa were strange faces that you didn’t see in the heat of the battle. I’m aware of the personal efforts you made reaching out to some of such people to appease them and assuage their sore feelings. That is what every good woman and supportive wife should do in the face of wanton disregard and disrespect of the gallant warriors who fought to demolish the PDP behemoth when it was least expected.

Today, the chickens have come home to roost. It appears the President has suddenly woken up from his slumber or maybe the mask of the evildoers has suddenly been lifted and the President we all voted for has come back from the deep. Our President is now under pressure to reach out frantically, and desperately, to the same people who were used and dumped after that landmark election in 2015. The same people you pleaded for and urged should be absorbed and assimilated into an all-inclusive government of patriots who worked to enthrone democratic principles and the change philosophy you became known as the apostle of.

Now, the President is working extra hard, using extra time and effort, to bring back some of those who have been ostracized for no justifiable reason. Suddenly, he is now making appointments which were penciled in almost 3 years ago, leading to an understandably botched exercise. The flaws notwithstanding, key national institutions will be properly administered for the first time in your husband’s tenure. We hope that the necessary refinement of this list of appointees will not take forever again. Time is fast spent and your husband will do well to quickly confirm the authentic list and let those appointed get to work. Others may see it as largesse to the Party Faithful but why not? However, as discerning administrators and observers will know, the essence of these appointments is not just in rewarding Party members but in your husband fulfilling his statutory and constitutional responsibilities and not being seen as running an autocratic, exclusive government. Every government that observes the rule of law and not merely pays lip service to it is on the path of righteousness.

More recently and commendably, Mr President is digging deep. He is now interacting with the people that he needs to move the country forward and ensure that he himself has a lasting legacy. It is gratifying to see the President having meetings and dinners with members of his Party, principal officers of the National Assembly and other key stakeholders. God is indeed wonderful. Those who felt you were seeking relevance, and personal comfort, have now realised your level of patriotism and love for Nigeria, as those things that you yearned for and spoke out about at great peril to your personal comfort and safety are now beginning to happen. It is my prayer that you will yet have the last laugh over the ignominious cabal that seemed to have held your husband hostage and attempted to strangulate our nation in the process. You are a woman of virtue and honour and Nigerians can’t appreciate you enough. So this weekend, on behalf of my fellow citizens I say bravo and doff my heart to a gentle Amazon, beautiful soul, visionary woman and invite my fellow Nigerians to do the same!

May God continue to bless and protect you and your family.

PoliticsYou Are Our Choice, Northern States Pdp Chairmen Endorse Maibasira, Agbo, kabiru by ochejoseph(op): 8:23pm On Oct 25, 2017
By: Raphael Ashwe

It was a peaceful gathering of political heavy-weights yesterday in Abuja as Northern States Peoples Democratic Party Chairmen ratified the unanimous tickets granted some aspirants of the party from the North Central Zone, the aspirants are Dr. Agbo Emmanuel from Benue State for the post of Deputy National Secretary, Barr. Kabiru Usman from Kogi state for the post of National Publicity Secretary and Mr. Abdullahi Maibasira Hussaini from Niger State for the post of Financial Secretary.

In his erudite presentation, Dr. Agbo who spoke on behalf of the aspirants maintained that, their enduring years of political experience had offered them enough to excel in the positions they were going for. He reiterated that, it was first better to garner support from the home front before they could enjoy support from support from other zones in the country.

Furthermore, Dr. Agbo was resolute that, the support offered them by the Northern Chairmen would not be betrayed. He said, the interest of the party was key, especially at a time when the party needed expertise and experience to do well and reclaim the mandate lost in the 2015 elections.

On the demand for a Chairman from the North-Central to confirm that, the candidates were the unanimous choices of the zone, Niger State Chairman, Barrister Tanko Beji maintained that, the candidates had been tested over time and trusted to effectively represent the area and to do well. He further charged the candidates to represent the integrity and position of the north.

Hon. John Ngbede, Benue State Chairman of the PDP had raised concern over the issue of candidates emerging from no where to contest against the already endorsed candidates and further called on the Northern Chairmen to work as a team with collective intention. They also resolved to check internal crisis within the party, especially as regards Governors who decamped from other political parties and on coming to the PDP attempted to dissolve the already standing party structures in their states.

Happy New Month and Happy reading

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble if you have been grinning from molar to molar, celebrating Pa Audu's "incredible feat" of exporting 72 tonnes of yam to the US and UK. I watched the report on AIT. Nicely packaged yam, in lovely cartons. I was tempted to celebrate Pa Audu for this achievement. Then I ran the numbers.

According to the May 2017 report by the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics, 1kg of yam goes for N256. This means that 72 tonnes of yam would have a street value of N18 million. Do the math. Forget that this is less than 50% of the volume of trade on a good day in Katsina Ala yam market every week. Anyway, the yam was well packed, and then freighted to the US and UK. Lets us assume than the packaging and freighting costed N3 million (and it might be a lot more, given that yam is heavy). So we have about N15 million net worth of yam (18 - 3 = 15). Assuming we sell it at twice the price, we would make a profit of N15 million. Again, let us assume that we did not incur additional cost in the transaction. So, here is the summary: we exported 72 tonnes of yam, and made N15 million. Good business, good profit.

Now this is where I am going with this: if 72 tonnes of yam is processed to pharmaceutical grade starch, (PGS) (that is the major component of tablets and capsules), we will get about 9.7 tonnes of pure PGS. I am a pharmacist, I know. Depending on your source, pharmaceutical grade starch goes for anywhere from $20 - 40/kg in the international market. And you can google this up. Pa Audu's 72 tonnes of yam is therefore worth a princely N102 million if it was processed to PGS (assuming it is sold for $30/kg, just to be conservative). So, N18 million worth of yam, processed to N102 million, profit of about 84 million.

The question is, has Audu made N15 million or lost N84 million?

Imagine, for instance, that Benue State was interested in setting up a starch production plant in Katsina Ala. Would we need to export 72 tonnes of starch to make N15 million, instead of making 84 million? And this is a state that makes a pitiable IGR of N250 million per month. The same Benue produces arguably half of the oranges in the country but there is no single fruit juice making industry in the state. This is not about Benue.

Nigeria produces 50 million metric tonnes of cassava annually, 20% of world production according to FAO, but what do we do with it? We convert it to fufu and eat. Zero percent is processed to PGS or other value-added products. If only half of it is processed to PGS, we would be making N35 billion per annum in sales. Again, open Excel and do the math.

So we have Audu exporting yam, exporting jobs, loosing revenue and feeling cool. And we have Gov. Ortom in the background, loving the spotlight of this new enterprise, waiting for applause. He cannot see the opportunities and the waste. He cannot understand why IGR is only N250m/month. Then we have the federal government exporting crude, exporting jobs, messing us all up.

The we have us, eating 50 million metric tonnes of cassava, converting it to pooh when we can convert it to cash.

And we want to be called a developing country.

HealthGov Ortom , The Holy Spirit And Pa Ogbe's Tubers Of Yam by ochejoseph(op):
huhGoing through Facebook this morning I came across a post shared by my beloved Tiv brother and friend Karlos and with the comedy of Errors taking place in Benue and the complete lack of direction by the Otrom administration I decided to share this here since it has become almost impossible for any one to advise Gov Ortom.

I criticised Pa Ogbe when he touted the idea of importing hybrid grass from Brazil and hailed his packaged yam export initiative which I bekive is a step in the right direction. However, after reading this beautiful piece as shared by Karlos I humbly submit that there is so much more to benefit if Pa Ogbe and Ortom work on the idea.

PoliticsRe: Biafra Vs Arewa Face Off: The Five Major Issues We Must Not Fail To Understand by ochejoseph(op): 6:33am On Jun 14, 2017
Sweetguy25:
You made very salient points but they aren't strong enough reasons as to why Nigeria should currently be run this way - And I mean this structure of government that generates hatred, poverty, strife, inequality, anger, insecurity and other anti-societal issues.

Honestly, This New Biafran agitation generates mixed feelings among young Igbos like me (especially educated youth) and the reason for this is the uncertainty. There is uncertainty in the Biafran project and there is greater uncertainty in the Nigerian project.

The uncertainty in the Nigerian project is highly visible. Nobody can predict the future of Nigeria even in the short term. If you meet President Osibanjo today and ask him what Nigeria will look like in the next 5 years, he can't give you a clear or accurate answer. Boko haram, militancy, widespread unemployment and poverty, persistent secessionist agitations etc... These are problems we didn't expect to happen in 1999 but they are realities now and nobody now when these problems will end. In fact, based on current realities, these problems will persist in years to come.

There is also that uncertainty about the Biafran project especially with regards to how it is being planned by its agitators. The truth is I love the idea of my ethnic people having their own country (and majority of Igbos do too) but the problems associated with secession and forming a strong viable nation generates serious thoughts against the idea.

However, I am more optimistic about a Biafran or an Igbo nation project than the current Nigerian project.

Nigeria as it is currently structured is stagnant. We have not made any progress since we gained independence 57 years ago.
- There have been no improvements in the way the different ethnic groups and tribes relate with one another.
- There have been no improvement in overall infrastructure provision to the public
- No improvement towards the economic well being of majority of the nigerian public.

We have not made any progress in 57 years, how are we going to start now?
I have taken a deep look and analysis of this country called Nigeria and I can boldly say that Nigeria does not have a bright future. I can defend my position with objective reasons and facts.
My brother you spoke brightly , if you look at my conclusion you realize that I mentioned that the current framework of the Nigerian state needs a tweaking some call it restructuring, Nigeria as a state can't continue like this, development will never happen as long as we keep our current structure, becos its all about fighting for the cake at the center which creates too much tension and enmity. But seceding has too many landmines with potentially dangerous consequences!

iiiyyyk:
your write up is fine, though u lean a bit in favour of the north that I understand.

1. U know life can not be compared to any material acquisition by man. The mere fact that the life and property of an Igboman is not and might never be secured in the North, looking at current prevailing factors. This alone completely nullifies any economic benefit Igbos get from the North.

2.U didn't Mention that Igbos pay business and property/hotel taxes in those states, which help the economy of those states.

3. if Igbos withdraw their little investments in the north, the economy of those places will feel it as well.
4. who consume most of the farm produce from the North, remember we buy them, north dont give it to us for free. if they tax our products heavily, we also tax theirs.
5. Igbos will easily build another lagos in Abia, via Imo River to atlantic,
or in cross River and Akwa Ibom whom am very sure we gladly join the Igbos...Remember we are very close to central Africa, a bigger market than Lagos_ west Africa corridor.

6. what makes nations great is not natural resources, but Human capital development and financial capital, which u agree Igbos are not doing too badly in Both.

I want a restructured Nigeria, to true fiscal federalism, or back to regional(6 federating Regions) but if Fed govt persist in status quo, am afraid, Nigeria is not sustainable. therefore Biafra becomes the next viable option for all progressive minded Igbo Nation.

I tell u the truth, Biafra will be an aggressive success with freeminded Igbomen. Rather than compare Biafra with Sudan, I think u should look at countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Singapore. the Igboman share same spirit and mindset with people from these places ....surving against all odds

all the same welldone
You have spoken well
PoliticsBiafra Vs Arewa Face Off: The Five Major Issues We Must Not Fail To Understand by ochejoseph(op): 4:28pm On Jun 13, 2017
BIAFRA VS AREWA FACE OFF: THE FIVE MAJOR ISSUE
WE MUST NOT FAIL TO US

Growing up as a child in Rigiyar Dorowa area of Sokoto was one of the happiest times of my life, opposite our house were the native Hausa/ Fulani hosts while on our sides were the non-natives 80% of which were Igbos. life was good, pidgin English was the lingua franca and the two other languages we could not do without were Igbo and Hausa and as kids we spoke them fluently nobody thought us we just grew up to speaking the languages as we mingled without segregation.

I have stayed out the Biafra discussion because I realized that whenever the issue comes up emotions run high while common sense and logical reasoning is always thrown out of the window hence my decision to watch the drama on the sidelines ,As a child who was born, raised and educated in Sokoto, North western Nigeria, I have felt the warmth, kindness and undiluted love of the people, I also understand the thinking's of a typical northerner haven spent the first 27 years of my life there and as a husband to a lovely Igbo woman and father to kids with some Igbo blood in their veins I also have a stake in the Eastern region.

Like I asserted in my book the Unseen Terrorist published by Author house in the United Kingdom, telling yourself a lie is like putting a short gun to your head and pulling the trigger in both ways you end up destroying yourself. There are 5 issues we must objectively look at in the ethnic and religious conflict that produced the Biafra agitation, at this point in our nation’s history silence is no longer golden, and history will not be kind to us if we fail to objectively dissect the issue and help the warring parties understand what is truly at stake.

Issue Number 1: The Tendency of the North to always be Violent

No one likes living with animals, as Northerner's we have spilled so much human blood, about 75 % of our innocent and defenseless victims have been the Igbo people and their children, and we have not spared their property also. Once there is any small fight or civil disturbance the next thing a northern miscreant thinks of is how to destroy Igbo property and sniff life out of a fellow human being.
During the sharia and election crises we killed and destroyed their properties across northern Nigeria, while they were still bleeding from the pains of the civil war and the trauma of abandoned property we continued to make them our number one target at the slightest provocation, these animalistic behavior we have perfected over decades has made living with us a nightmare.
Even among the so called northerners we have remained extremely violent to ourselves, how do we explain the killings in my home state Benue, how do we rationalize the slaughter by Boko haram in the North East. The Agatu massacre by Fulani herdsmen, their collaborators and silent supporter's is unexplainable yet we want people to live and coexist with us! Only a mad man will do so without asking questions.

\

Issue Number 2: Beneficiaries of the Northern Population.

The second truth we must tell ourselves is why are the Igbo's found in the remotest villages of Northern Nigeria, No one has milked the benefits of the Northern population like the Igbo nation truth be told. Unfortunately, majority of Igbo's and southerners are unwilling to accept the role of the north in developing the Igbo entrepreneurial zeal.
A vast majority of the Goods and products sold in major south eastern markets like Aba and Onitsha are not consumed in the East they end up in the north, this explains why the volume of cash inflow to the east is at its lowest during Ramadan and crisis period up North, today the Igbo's control about 70% of the core commercial activity in the North while Northerner's control less than 3 % in the Eastern region these are facts.
The Northern population has provided a training ground for many Igbo traders and their trainees who later became masters and continued their commercial exploits , data has shown that a vast majority of real estate especially in major cities in the northern Nigeria are owned by our eastern brothers and sisters thanks to a northern population that was willing to support their enterprise, but to claim the Igbo's are doing the north a favour by making money in their enclave like some have claimed is taking the insult too far .

Issue Number 3: Insensitivity to Religious Beliefs on Both sides

The complete lack of regard for the religious believe of the typical Muslim is usually the trigger for violence between the Arewa Muslim community and the Igbo nation, it is not unusual to find an Igbo man provocatively gulping a bottle of beer before a fasting Muslim neighbor without recourse to their emotions during Ramadan, the failure and outright refusal of a vast majority of the Igbo community to recognize and respect the religious beliefs of their host communities will continue to be the weakest and most lethal link in this complex relationship.

On the other hand, the insatiable appetite and perpetual quest to burn churches by arewa miscreants and few educated illiterates is another issue that has hastened the segregation of the nation along ethnic and religious lines, this is because the non-northern Christian population in the north is largely dominated by the Igbo's
Unfortunately, the political elites on both sides see this as a political weapon and often used same to whip up sentiments during elections this explains why elections in Nigeria is never based on issues of development but largely on ethnic propaganda and where you pray.

Issue Number 4: Demerits of the Biafra agitation and Arewa exit declaration.

It was Micheal Crichton who said “if you don’t know history you don't know anything, you are like a leaf who does not know it is part of a tree."
Today Puerto Rico is begging to lose its statehood and join the US as its 51st state, South Sudan the world's newest nation is currently in coma with no end in sight to the infighting for power by her political elite. It’s not about chasing people out of a land or claiming you want Biafra it’s about the huge consequences of what some of our friends are asking for...

Salient issues

A. If Biafra is granted independence as some want that will automatically transform Igbo's into foreigners in Nigeria, a nation they contributed immensely to build.

Now...
Which country in the world will allow foreigners to control 80 % of the commerce within its territory? It will be against National security to do so, except the capital of Biafra will be Abuja.

B. If Biafra secede Will the Arewa dominated "new" Nigeria allow Igbo's who by this time are non-nationals to still hold on to 70 % of the real estate which they control in the capital?

C. Many of the Nigerian flagged ships are Igbo owned, with Biafra coming into the picture they will automatically lose their privileged rights under the Cabotage laws and even go bankrupt because they automatically become foreign flagged ships with little or no expertise in foreign shipping and the huge demands

D. It will be odd to see Goods from Aba the China of Africa and Onitsha paying import duty just to cross the Niger Bridge into Asaba! ,!!! Yes that will be an export terminal if the agitation succeed, this will reduce the competitiveness of these products in terms of pricing.

E. Our current laws limits foreign equity in local banks, even Jaiz Nigeria’s only Islamic Bank has more Igbo shareholders than arewa Muslim shareholders, if that is the case imagine the Igbo shareholding and equity in traditional banks! What happens to these investments by hard working Igbo men and women? Will the law be changed overnight?

E. The Nigerian Civil service is dominated by Igbo's, comparative to their population nationally they have taken more than their fair share , will the over saturated states Eastern civil service struggling to pay salaries absorb them? How will the new nation cope with the huge number of pensioners from the east under the national payroll?

Qatar with all its huge resources powdered by gas and other petroleum resources is currently feeling the heat of the blockade by GCC nations, its only land border is with Saudi Arabia this route serves as the only link for the supply of critical resources and it is currently closed, the proposed Biafra although with some little orifices is virtually a landlocked region the Igbo man is too mobile and enterprising to be confined to a landlocked nation. Therefore those supporting Biafran agitation must avoid parochial sentiments and look at the bigger picture.

On the other hand my Arewa brothers who are banking on free crude oil money after chasing the Igbo's away must go back to the drawing board. It is sad that they fail to realize that once the South east goes, the South South will joyfully exit, and as we all know their agitation will not be as peaceful as IPOB who present themselves for practice training with live bullets by drunk officers and men of the Nigerian police and army, even the middle belt might not be willing to stay after the fragmentation and trust the highly educated Yoruba nation they have all the ingredients and capacity to start and sustain a viable new country.

As at today many of the northern states cannot sustain themselves, Benue my home state inclusive, with all the noise about food production and food basket there is widespread hunger, desperation and hopelessness in the land. The Northern healthcare system is driven by the population they want to expel, 9 out of every 10 pharmacy and chemist in the north 8 are owned by Igbo's.
The educational system in the core north is on life support thanks to Boko Haram. We have failed to properly manage the industries bequeathed to us by the late Sir Ahamadu Bello the Sardaunan Sokoto today their carcasses are scattered all over the region. If there is a time we need entrepreneur’s and investors to come to our region it is now !!!.

Many of those who have joined the band wagon of chase them away and Biafra agitation have not seen war, and some are under the influence of tramadol, alcoholic drinks and other substances which they abuse , nevertheless there are genuine agitators with sufficient grounds to call for a divorce of the marriage of 1914, they have issues which needs to be addressed, this is why I believe the decision the Buhari administration to pursue the policy of 97% and 5% as soon as he was inaugurated was the worse decision of his presidency so far.

Furthermore, the decision to completely throw away the entire recommendations of the national conference without sieving through to implement some of its nation saving recommendations is an action we will continue to regret for many years to come. With the current administration showing no regard for the constitution, court orders or the rule of Law, citizens are beginning to copy these dangerous precedents by abrogating to themselves powers which even the state does not have, as manifested by these haphazard declaration's and counter declaration which will further weaken whatever is left of the Nigerian state.

It is instructive to note that the general feeling among Nigerians who genuinely have the interest of the nation at heart is that there is an urgent need to restructure or tweak the framework of Nigerian state in order to prevent an imminent collapse and descent into lawlessness and anarchy.

Finally, just like my Eastern family my Northern family must recognized that we all need each other, No ethnic nationality can claim to know all, and no region is entirely self-sustaining as such we must stair up the Nigerian spirit of innovation and seek for ways to permanently resolve our differences, salvage our crumbling economy and preserve whatever is left of our common humanity.

May God Bless the Federal Republic Of Nigeria

Arise News247 is debunking the rumours flying round that the Supreme Court has decided PDP case in favour of Sheriff. It is all lies believed to have been cooked up by enemies of PDP to weaken PDP Supporters.

In fact, the Supreme Court did not sit over PDP issue today as there has not been any date fixed for the Supreme Court judgment.

Arise News247 obtained that those who cooked the lies of this Supreme Court issue started yesterday by spreading false rumours that the Supreme Court judgment in PDP case has been slated for today. And so many people erroneously joined in spreading the fake rumours.

As if that was not enough they coined out another rumour today again, as a follow up to their false alarm yesterday, that the Supreme Court has decided in favour of Sheriff.

Based on the fact confirmed by Arise News247 from the PDP National Secretariat, the Supreme Court has not even fixed any date for judgement in the Makarfi Vrs Sheriff case.

According to Madam Chinwe, the Head of National Publicity Department of the PDP: "The Supreme Court did not Sit on the PDP leadership matter today and there is no judgement and no date fixed yet. Hopefully, very soon."

Hence, disregard all rumours as they are all the handiwork of enemies of PDP.
