EducationFederal University Lokoja: A Tale Of Two Vice Chancellors (Photos) by ochejoseph(op): 5:40pm On Feb 13, 2021
It was Abraham Lincoln who said "Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing".

I Woke up this morning to news of disturbing scenes at the Federal University Lokoja, one of the six new Federal Universities built from scratch by the Goodluck Administration.

Poster and banners of the outgoing Vice chancellor Prof Angela Miri with unprintable words saturated the scenes while workers armed with brooms and trumpets sang and danced while sweeping her footprints from the University's premesis.

Source: https://www.nairaland.com/6412770/federal-university-lokoja-staff-mock

While watching these unbelievable scenes my mind quickly flashed back to a contrasting scene few years back when another vice chancellor was leaving the same seat at the same University.

That vice chancellor was Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi a professor of pathology, with interest in cervical cancer prostate cancer and medicolegal medicine and the pioneer vice chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, a post he held until February 2016 at the end of his 5-year term.

Those who knew him say he was an administrator with a difference, a man who knew how to manage people and institutions.  According reports his remarkable transformation of virgin land into a beautiful and amiable institution with meager resources, within 5 years left many wondering as to how he was able to achieve such feat

Staff weep as he vacates office

In what appeared to be the first of its kind in Nigeria and an endorsement of his leadership style, members of staff of the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi state couldn’t hide their emotions and wept bitterly and openly as Professor Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi left office. The Prof struggled to also hold himself as he waved at staff and students who gathered at the Vice Chancellor’s office to bid him farewell.

Source:

https://www.nairaland.com/2941596/staff-cry-rafindadi-vc-lokoja

Rafindadi and Miri occupied the same office but thier tenures were characterized by two different and distinct outcomes.

Coming at a time when the country is mourning the death  a true servant leader and former Governor of Lagos state Baba Lateef Jakande, it is imperative for those entrusted  with leadership to always remember they will one day leave office, irrespective of how long thier tenure appears to be.

Those who have been saddled with the responsibility of leading should always remember that muzzling the ox when it treads the grain and denying labourers of their worthy wages when one feeds fat on their sweat will always result in this type of treatment.

As Professor Olayemi Akinwumi resumes as the new vice Chancellor of the university, it is hoped that such acrimony will cease as he will bring his wealth of experience and people management to bear in his quest to take one of Nigeria's baby institutions to enviable heights.

Gov Ortom Wake Up: Benue COVID 19 Palliatives In Kano Markets (VIdeo)

At this difficult time in our Nations history Benue state should not be in the news for Shameful reasons such as this .

At a time when our people are hungry , evil men and women are selling off food items donated to them as Palliatives by the coalition against COVID-19.

When i initially saw this news i felt it was an attempt to blackmail the state Government until details emerged that evil men and women within the government are responsible for these travesty of Justice.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”- Edmund Burke

This is a direct call the Gov Ortom to Wake up from slumber before evil men rubbish him and his Government, its a disgrace that Benue is selling off her COVID 19 Palliatives. This Palliative must be returned in full and shared to the needy and those who truly needs them. For....

PoliticsAdesina, Global Player Of Impeccable Character ―First US AFDB Executive Director by ochejoseph(op): 8:33pm On May 31, 2020
The first United States Executive Director of African Development Bank (AfDB), Ambassador Harold H. Doley, JR, has described President of the bank, Akinwumi Adesina as a global player of impeccable character that deserves the support of United States of America.

In an OP-ed letter to US Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin dated May 29, Doley said, “t is an acknowledged fact that Akinwumi Adesina is a global player of impeccable character who has helped mobilize billions of dollars into Africa and helped accelerate the continent’s development.

“It is why the executive committee of the Africa Union, speaking for 55 African countries, unanimously endorsed him as the sole candidate for re-election to a second term.

“This is vital for Africa’s continued economic growth, infrastructure and investment.

“It is traditional at multilateral development institutions that sole candidates be reelected by acclamation.

“Therefore, Mr Secretary, the people of America implore you to use your good offices to continue to support Africa, the African Development Bank and President Adesina in his bid for re-election; and that you walk in lockstep with African Governors and Finance Ministers.”

He recalled becoming a full shareholder in the AfDB in 1983 the US has played a leadership role as the Bank’s largest non-regional (non-African) shareholder, and the second-largest overall.

“Since taking office in 2015, the current and 8th President of the Bank, the US trained and globally renowned Akinwumi Adesina, rapidly restructured the bank and refined its focus through a High 5 strategy that has directly impacted the lives of millions of Africans.

“This has been through strategic investments in energy and electricity, agriculture technologies that significantly improve food security, access to private sector finance, improved transport infrastructure, and water and sanitation.

“In 2019, with US support, the African Development Bank’s shareholders approved a General Capital Increase of $115 billion, the largest in the Bank’s 56-year history.

“The increase more than doubled capital from $93 billion to $208 billion. Also, in 2019, the Bank’s concessional window, the African Development Fund (ADF), received a 35% replenishment with donor contributions.

“US shares of $499,695,200 represent 7.81% of total subscriptions are a critically needed resource for Low-Income Countries (LICs) and transition States.

“Ultimately, supporting Africa’s private sector is critical for social and economic development.”

In 2018, Adesina led an unprecedented effort to attract global investments into Africa through the inaugural Africa Investment Forum, which mobilized $78.8 billion in investment interests between 2018 and 2019.

Doley explained that although there have been concerns in some circles about China’s role in Africa, American enterprise thrives on competition and is poised to play a more influential economic role in the years ahead.

“Recognizing America’s pivotal role at the AfDB and other multilateral development banks is crucial for the global economy.”

He noted that in conformity with the governance rules and procedures of the Board’s Ethics Committee, the Bank cleared Adesina of wrongdoing stemming from several allegations levelled against, which was a boost for the bank and the continent.

He, therefore, urged the United States to support the unanimous decision of all 55 African Heads of States and government to support Adesina for a second term.

PoliticsThe Strange Satanism Of Bill Gates - By Reno Omokri by ochejoseph(op): 7:02pm On May 04, 2020
In John 10:10 Christ said satan’s mission is to steal, kill and destroy. Since the year 2000, Bill and Melinda Gates have spent $5 billion feeding Africans and saving African lives. It thus betrays ingratitude for Africans to call them satanic agents. Can we not give them the benefit of the doubt? We have produced no evidence to substantiate these rumours, yet we are so prepared to forget all their good deeds and just label them anti Christ.

How can you say Bill and Melinda Gates are satanic agents when Christ said satan came to steal, kill and destroy? For years, they have been doing the opposite of that. It is particularly disappointing for politicians to make that claim. Can you do for your people what Bill Gates has done for them?

Sadly, misguided Africans insulted Bill and Melinda Gates when they expressed concern about deaths on the streets of Africa. But look at Kano. If we had taken their warnings seriously, Kano won’t be a #COVID19 hotspot today, despite having tens of thousands of mosques and hundreds of churches.

How can you have individuals who have not lifted a finger to help their people. Who have not shared palliatives out of their pocket. You have not done a giveaway.

Their only contribution to the #CoronaVirus fight is to insult Bill and Melinda Gates, who have spent more money on African’s health than their own governments Bill and Melinda Gates were not satanic agents when they provided anti malarial medicines to Nigeria, or when they provided food aid to the insurgency ravaged Northeast. Now they are satanic. Africa and ingratitude. What a shame!

Right now, there will be racist haters of Black Africans, approaching @BillGates and laughing at him, while saying ‘did we not tell you that no matter what you do, they will never be grateful?’. Africans. Without evidence, we have crucified a friend of Africa!

As we approach the inevitable1000 infections mark it has become imperative to draw the attention of Governments ( Federal ,state Local,) to the need to make available facemask for citizens as we struggle to contain the virus that continues to defy medical science.

Government all across the world are investing heavily on masks , unfortunately masks have become almost invincible in Nigeria.

Special thanks to the Governors who have gone an extra mile to make masks available and to those who are sleeping including those still in denial it's time to wake up before it's too late. It's not enough to invest in testing we should also invest in protecting the uninfected.

Here is a collection of different ways Africans especially Nigerians have  employed to protect themselves against COVID 19.

Why it is true that politicians across board are sharing billions to imaginary citizens and ghosts the aim of these fake news peddlers is to divert the anger of Nigerians to the Nigerian center for disease control which has till this moment done a fantastic job in collaboration with health workers across Nigeria to keep the Country safe.

The News that NCDC has spent one Billion in sending text messages to Nigerians is FAKE! The center via its verified twitter handle has stated as follows "The headline claiming that NCDC has spent N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians is FALSE

Health10 Ways To Protect Yourself And Family From The Coronavirus by ochejoseph(op): 11:22am On Feb 28, 2020
What Is Coronaviruse?
Coronaviruses are types of viruses that typically affect the respiratory tracts of birds and mammals, including humans. Doctors associate them with the common cold, bronchitis, pneumonia, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and they can also affect the gut. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global health emergency over a new coronavirus, which causes an illness officially known as COVID-19 that has killed more than 2,800 people worldwide.

How Do People Get Infected?

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is most often spread from person to person via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. A person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it . People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic . Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:

10 Simple Ways To Protect Yourself and Family From Coronavirus

The World Health organization and other health agencies recommend some basic protective measures against the new coronavirus which include:
1. Washing your hands frequently
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

2. Maintain social distancing
Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

3. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

4. Practice respiratory hygiene
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately. A face mask will provide an additional layer of protection especially in public.

Why?
Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

5. If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

6. Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.
Protection measures for persons who are in or have recently visited (past 14 days) areas where COVID-19 is spreading

7. Stay at home if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and slight runny nose, until you recover.

Why? Avoiding contact with others and visits to medical facilities will allow these facilities to operate more effectively and help protect you and others from possible COVID-19 and other viruses.

8. If you develop fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical advice promptly as this may be due to a respiratory infection or other serious condition. Call in advance and tell your provider of any recent travel or contact with travelers.

Why? Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also help to prevent possible spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.

9. Avoid panic and ignore text, Whatsapp messages or social media post promoting uncertified local concoctions as remedy, cure or prevention for corona virus.

Why? Such messages and broadcast have been shown to kill more people than the virus itself as witnessed in Nigeria during the Ebola salt and water hoax.

10. As much as possible avoid parties, crowded religious, ceremonial and official gathering especially in areas with confirmed cases also take additional measures to protect babies and children.

Why? An infected South Korea woman who went to church was responsible for the corona Carnage in the country . The so-called superspreader infected at least 37 people at her church with the new coronavirus, and dozens of additional worshippers are also showing symptoms of the disease. The 61-year-old woman attends the Shincheonji Church of Jesus the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony in Daegu, South Korea, according to the international news outlet AFP. The city, located in the southern part of the country, is home to about 2.5 million people. The woman, called "Patient 31" by Korea's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, developed a fever on Feb. 10 and attended four church services before being diagnosed with COVID-19.

I am not a Dunamis Member but what I saw there today was the presence of God in a very unique and powerful dimension.

If you are in Abuja on the 31st of December you can join them to see what I meant during their cross service or connect with them online and experience what we witness today .

May God Himself grant all your heart desires before 2020 appears in Jesus Name

Christianity EtcSee How Pastor Paul Enenche's Children Reacted When He Did This To Their Mum by ochejoseph(op): 5:56pm On Dec 29, 2019
This morning we had the privilege of worshipping at the glory dome , as we do once every year in Abuja.   We were joined by other Christian faithfuls from all works of life who also came  to celebrate God's faithfulness on the very last Sunday in 2019.

It was a service like no other as everyone including the Dunamis first family took time dance like David to celebrate the King of Heaven for preserving his people througout a tumultuous year  which was almost defined by kidnapping, robbers and herdsmen but for the mercies of God.

After the service the Senior of the Dunamis International Gospel Center Dr Paul Eneche, who sacrificed medical practice over three decades ago to answer God's calling shared this very beautiful picture of him carrying his wife Dr Mrs Enenche while his children watched the spectacle in awe .

May the work of the Kingdom continue to prosper in the hands of his servant in Jesus Name!

EducationABU Zaria Denies Girl Who Scored 302 In JAMB Admission For Medicine & Surgery by ochejoseph(op): 3:21pm On Dec 19, 2019
Dear Prof Garba This Should Not Happen In ABU Zaria

It was Martin Luther King Jr who said that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.'' it was on the premise of this that I decided to open this thread when I stumbled on a post by my journalist friend and brother George Onmonya .

I was Pained by the details of the post and decided to draw the attention of JAMB and Prof Ibrahim Garba the current Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria an astute administrator in who I strongly believe will act in the Spirit of justice equity and fairness.

I Have decided to reproduce the facebook post George Verbatim in order not to dilute it's content

Attention: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

*Goodness Thomas*, the Valedictorian of St. Clement Secondary School, Gbaiko Minna, Niger State for year 2019.

This girl scored 302 in her JAMB, 274 in Post UTME at the ABU Zaria. She has 6 A1s (including Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry) in her WAEC yet ABU Zaria denied her admission to study her course of choice, Medicine and Surgery.. rather she was offered Human Anatomy.

ABU Zaria cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery is 250. She surpassed that score by 52 points.

She is currently demoralized by this act and we need to fight for her. She is only 16 years old and does not deserve this trauma."
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10218422876754656&id=1575764303

It is unimaginable that in this age someone with English , Mathmatics , Chemistry, Biology and scored one of the highest scores in recent times in both JAMB and the Post UTME will end with a course she never when those who scored half of what she scored will end up as medical students.

To deny this girl this admission is to cement the the wrongly held notion that the ABU of today no longer values merit . Using religious quota under any guise is a sacrilage that no Nigerian Muslim or Christian should be subjected to.

Those charged with the responsibility of correcting this error should remember that the tenor of human positions no matter how highly exhalted will one day come to an end only Gods tenure is eternal.

EducationSexually Transmitted Degrees : 7 Things You Should Know by ochejoseph(op): 11:58am On Oct 17, 2019
The term sexually transmitted degrees refers to degrees, diplomas and certificates obtained not by academic or intellectual prowess or capacity but through granting of sexual favours in an academic setting. The term was first used by Ademule David December, 2012 and became recently popular following the undercover report by BBC which exposed some Nigerian Lecturers. Nigerian institutions are populated by fantastic lecturers many of whom labour extremely hard under unfriendly working conditions to transfer knowledge to their students. Unfortunately, they are also packed with sexual predators and malevolent creatures destroying lives and wrecking destinies.
In this piece, I have tried to capture all the issues around the sex for grades scandal with the hope that society will rise for up for what is right and make our institutions a place we can all be proud of.

1. The Excuse of Skimpy Dressing
Our educational system has become almost useless because sex and money have become a weapon within a system that is meant to groom individuals both in character and learning. While it is true that students of tertiary institutions in Nigeria are legends of provocative dressing, that must never be the yardstick to sexually harass and humiliate them. While not making excuses for the naked nonsense and nudity on our campuses, it must be said that if Western students , their South American counterparts and their lecturers can interact without molestation, especially in summer when the ladies wear little to nothing, Nigerian lecturers should not use this excuse. They can wield their moral powers by sending such crazy dressers out of class or their offices, instead of plotting to a sexual collabo.

2. Non Academic Students and Slay Queens Also Harass Lecturers
Sexual harassment on campuses is not one sided as many claim , ask any reasonable graduate of Nigerian University and he or she will tell you that Non Academic students who got into the system through “voodoo” means will always use ‘voodoo’ means to secure a degree. Slay queens with nothing but ‘akamu’ in their brains are not left out, they party all night running from one club to the other while their colleagues are taking lectures. Such fellows will be off campus often for weeks spending valuable time with yahoo boys , politicians and money bags . These class of students hound lecturers for grades with offers most cannot resist and blackmailing those who resist sex or money. When results are out they end up with an A or B, thanks to the settling schemes that has become a tradition in our institutions.

3. Course Rep Usually knows everything
The class /course representative or captain often knows more than he is ever willing to tell. Having spent more than 10 years in that role, I must assert that female students some times are the architect of their own misfortune. Many of them visit lecturers taking a course at unholy hours often alone to seek for one help or the other. During these sessions they try to use their feminine charm to form a platonic relationship with these lecturers. However, this signal is often misinterpreted by the male lecturers as a signal for a relationship often sexual and when the other party withdraws the green light and takes off often after getting what they wanted, these lecturers feel betrayed and unleash their venom either directly or through their colleagues who are also co conspirators.

4. Demons Posing as Lecturers
This category of persons are the ones that insist on seeing the pants of a female student or she will not graduate, no matter how brilliant she is. These group of lecturers have all the blackbook tactics used by lecturers of the underworld. These range from giving a student who scored distinction in a course D or E simply because she refused advances or asking a colleague to out rightly fail her. These lecturers prey on girls as young as 16, many of whom are barely the age of their children or grand children. Have you ever wondered how the exam script booklet of a student suddenly gets missing after she turned down the advances of a lecturer in another department when evidence clearly shows that she signed in and signed out of the exams and all students that took part in the exams submitted their scripts as confirmed by the examination officers?
The cabal that molest students are in different departments, they know each other and share these girls among themselves. They often protect each other and go to extreme limits to ensure that they get what they want, it does not matter how many times a girl spills over.

5. Religious cover most times used
One of the most disappointing aspects of this trend as we have seen is the use of the religious organizations to cover or commit atrocities. Persons parading as pastors, imams hide under these cloaks to destroy the lives of young people leaving them scarred for the rest of their lives, forgetting that their own children will one day pass through the four walls of institutions like theirs. This practice is more prevalent in polytechnics and colleges of education where students are lured in the name of religion and transformed into sexual slaves by their demigod pastors-lecturers, most times leaving them infected with sexually transmitted diseases.

6. The NYSC Disaster
Although this is applicable to both male and female students, it is more rampant among persons who obtained their degrees by the settling schemes in our schools. This group of people are grossly incompetent and many are either unemployable or declared incompetent by their employers after a trial period because they bypassed the necessary training and skill acquisition process during their higher institution days. At the extreme level, you will find a 2:1 graduate of English and Linguistics committing grammatical blunders and malapropisms in every sentence they utter. Some cases are so severe that they cannot even read, write or spell simple words correctly.

7. HIV /AIDS Angle
As a disease control specialist I have seen countless cases of HIV Carriers being raped by randy men lecturers and the so called men of God inclusive. One recurring decimal in all these cases is that a randy man on heat will not mind inserting his manhood into the mouth of a viper disguised as a female reproductive organ. Unfortunately, most of our schools have become brothels and centers for breeding criminals, yahoo boys and cultists.
This piece will not be complete without celebrating the intellectual capacity of the Nigerian student. History has shown that Nigerian students especially our sisters and daughters have blazed the academic trail since independence. From America to India, from the United Kingdom to Gods own country, Nigeria, the convocation of any institution is never complete without Nigerian ladies carting away awards for academic excellence. This spirit must not be destroyed on the altar of sex, money or ego.
History has shown that the Nigerian woman has contributed most when called upon for National assignment than all men combined. As a Nation, we remain eternally grateful to Professor Dora Akuyilli for saving us from menace of fake drugs , to Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh for sacrificing her life to save millions of Nigerians from Ebola, and to Ngozi Okonjo Iweala for rescuing us from the bondage of Paris Club Loan. To every Nigerian girl out there, striving legally to earn an education and make a living, your labour will not be in vain .
