The addition of Alisson Becker from Roma for 75 million euros is a record fee for a goalkeeper, which adds the finishing touches to the squad. "We've signed all we need, I don't think there'll be any more [signings]," the German coach said after the deal was confirmed."We weren't bad last season, but we've tried to improve in the market."We had the chance to sign one of the best goalkeepers in the world and we took it."It's not the price we wanted to pay, it's the price the market demanded, we aren't thinking about him being the most expensive goalkeeper, that's a story outside the club."What's important is that we have another superb footballer in the team." The Brazilian shot-stopper is the club's fourth signing of the summer, following Naby Keita (60m euros), Fabinho (45m euros) and Xherdan Shaqiri (15m euros). That takes the spending for the summer to 195m euros, surpassing the 174m euros spent last season. No teams in the Premier League have spent more, while only Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus have spent more at 222m euros. "We've lost some players and signed some others, I'm happy with the signings and we'll work in pre-season to be stronger," Klopp added.Emre Can's departure for Juventus and a serious injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have opened the door for Fabinho and Keita, whilst Alisson will take the place of the much-questioned Lídia Karius.Shaqiri is a different case, adding depth to a front line led by Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The Blues will wear yellow away kit on their travels this season, with Nike keen to commemorate the club's history. Chelsea have revealed their away kit for the 2018-19 season, a bold yellow number! The Blues wore yellow throughout the 1960s and 70s, but have not had a yellow kit since the 2014-15 season, when they won the Premier League title. Nike claim that the kit is designed to celebrate "past moments through a modern energy" as Chelsea "usher in a new era". A lion sits on the neckline, with the words "football is the game", the second line of the club's famous song. "Blue is the colour" features on the home kit. The kit will make its official debut in the club's clash with Inter Milan in Nice on July 28. Chelsea revealed their new home strip in May, using it in their final game of the 2017-18 season, a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle which saw them miss out on a Champions League spot. The R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested Thursday night after a concert in West Palm Beach, Fla., on a charge of felony battery stemming from an April 2017 incident in Tampa. He is accused of punching a photographer, Bennie Vines, at an event there at Club Aja, according to the police. Officials notified Mr. Brown’s team of the imminent arrest before the concert, said Eric Davis, spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. The authorities escorted him out of the Coral Sky Amphitheater shortly after the concert and booked him into the Palm Beach County Jail at 11 p.m. He was released at 11:52 p.m. after paying a $2,000 bond. Mr. Vines, a Tampa-based photographer, was hired by the nightclub to take photos at an event in April 2017. He told the police he was sitting near Mr. Brown, when Mr. Brown motioned to him to move away, according to a statement from the Tampa Police Department. Mr. Vines tried to explain to Mr. Brown that he was taking photos of the crowd. Mr. Brown then punched him in his upper lip, according to Mr. Vines and other witnesses. World Cup quarter-final clash between Sweden and England at the Samara Arena. Sweden: The Swedes will be without the suspended Mikael Lustig after he picked up his second booking of the tournament against Switzerland, meaning that Emil Krafth is expected to start. Sebastian Larsson will return from a suspension of his own in midfield, with Gustav Svensson likely to make way. England: Striker Jamie Vardy is unlikely to feature having suffered a groin strain in the win over Colombia, but Ashley Young (ankle) and Kyle Walker (cramp) are both thought to have recovered sufficiently to retain their starting places. Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek could come in for Dele Alli in midfield after he stuggled against the South Americans. Sweden boss Janne Andersson: "I grew up in the 70s and we used to follow English football. It was only one televised match a week in those day. "I grew up with this and England was my second nation. It's a wonderful feeling to face them as head coach of the Swedish team. "But football has developed a great deal. What they still have is the heart and the spirit of fighting. World Cup as the quarter-finals take place on Friday and Saturday. Here we analyse the fixtures. Just eight teams remain at the World Cup, and few would have predicted that so many big names would be missing from the quarter-finals in Russia. The round of 16 saw Spain, Argentina, Colombia and Mexico eliminated, joining the likes of Germany, who fell at the group stage, and Italy, who failed to reach the finals at all. Among those still standing, Brazil and France represent the early favourites while Sweden and Russia have advanced further than many would have expected, and all will be eyeing a run to the final after the unpredictable way this tournament has unfolded. With just over a week of the World Cup to go, we weigh up the chances of the quarter-finalists heading into a mouth-watering round of matches. Uruguay v France Date, time and venue: Friday, July 6 (17:00 local time) – Nizhny Novgorod Stadium As a resident of Paris, Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani would have relished the opportunity to take on France at the World Cup. Sadly, the 31-year-old Paris Saint-Germain target man is unlikely to start the game due to a calf injury, and Didier Deschamps' side will be relieved if he is unable to make the XI. Cavani scored twice as Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 in the round of 16, while Group C winners France were inspired by two-goal teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe in their 4-3 win over Argentina. Uruguay are likely to field Girona forward Cristhian Stuani in place of Cavani, while Deschamps will look to Corentin Tolisso to fill in for the suspended Blaise Matuidi in his front four. Star Man: Luis Suarez v Raphael Varane With Cavani's fitness in doubt, Uruguay will be increasingly reliant upon Suarez to take advantage of any gaps in the France defence and snap up every opportunity for a shot at goal. The Barcelona striker has faced Real Madrid defender Varane in high-stakes matches at club level and the atmosphere in Nizhny Novgorod promises to be every bit as intense as El Clasico. Top stat: Oscar Tabarez's men have won their opening four games in Russia, becoming the first Uruguay side to do so at a World Cup tournament since 1930 - and the fourth game in that run was a 4-2 victory over Argentina in the final. Brazil v Belgium Date, time and venue: Friday, July 6 (21:00) – Kazan Arena Tournament favourites Brazil have yet to really fire on all cylinders at the World Cup as they prepare to face a Belgium side that has plundered 12 goals in four games. Roberto Martinez's men looked increasingly likely to live up to their billing as Belgium's golden generation until Japan gave them a scare in their 3-2 last-16 victory, while the most discussed aspect of the Selecao's 2-0 win over Mexico was Neymar's theatrics rather than his football. Both these sides have a point to prove in Samara. Star Man: Fernandinho v Kevin De Bruyne While Neymar will likely hog the limelight, this game may well hinge on the battle for possession and space in central midfield. Belgium are at their best when De Bruyne finds room to manoeuvre and, with Casemiro suspended, it may be down to his Manchester City team-mate Fernandinho to shackle him. Top stat: Brazil have faced fewer shots on target than any other team, with just five efforts testing Alisson. They have also had the most shots on target, making 48 accurate attempts. Juventus will seal a deal with Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo within the day. "The business isn't concluded, but the rapprochement between the two parties will be a reality in the next few hours," states the report from 'Record'. Ronaldo will seal a €30m-per-year contract that will keep him at Juventus until 2022. The path was cleared for the deal yesterday, when Real Madrid president Florentino Perez met with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, for urgent talks over the issue. The meeting "went on until dawn" before a categorical conclusion was drawn, according to the Portuguese outlet. "Ronaldo definitively closed the door on Real Madrid," they claim. Thus, the Spanish side will reportedly let the forward leave for €100m. Ronaldo apparently has a clause that lets him leave if a club that isn't a direct rival pays this sum. It was precisely this clause, created a few months ago, that prompted Ronaldo to consider leaving the club, according to 'Record' and 'Marca', who led with the headline 'If I am worth 100 million, they now don't want me'. The agreement with Juve reportedly will see Fiat, who own the club, become one of Cristiano's sponsors, in order to lighten the financial burden of the deal. The Real Madrid star, who has won the Ballon d'Or on five occasions, made it clear that there was something afoot when he cast doubt over his future with 'Los Blancos' after the Champions League final. "It was nice to be at Real Madrid all this time. In the next few days I'll give a definitive response to the fans," he said, creating a media storm. The story died down to an extent while the World Cup took centre-stage, but with Ronaldo back home following Portugal's elimination, things seem to be moving fast. If 'Record' are to be believed, this could be the last day of Ronaldo's time in Madrid. After nine years at Real Madrid, it looks like Cristiano Ronaldo is finally ready to leave. |
Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the new manager of Derby County, the club announced on Thursday morning. It marks the first job in management for Lampard, who retired two years ago, and sees him follow in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard, who recently took up the job at Rangers in Scotland. As a player Lampard racked up over 100 caps for England and won every trophy in club football, including the Champions League in 2012 and three Premier League titles. Derby County Executive Chairman, CBE, Mel Morris, said: “I’m delighted to have someone of Frank’s calibre as our new manager. “I’ve always been an admirer of Frank both as a player and a person, especially in the way he conducts himself both on and off the pitch. That impression was only re-enforced when we interviewed him for this role, his passion and humility shone through in equal measure. The board were unanimous that he was the stand-out applicant with many highly desirable and unique capabilities. “Few players have achieved what Frank has in his career to date. He’s a winner, a leader who knows what it takes to succeed and who has the character and charisma to be a fantastic manager for us.” Lampard joins the 'Rams' on a three year deal, and will be tasked with taking them back to the Premier League. “I’ve always wanted to manage a club with a big tradition and history like Derby County, so this is a huge opportunity. I have spent considerable time discussing the role and the club’s objectives with the Chairman and board members," Lampard said himself. Cristiano Ronaldo became only the fifth player in the club's history to make 100 appearances in the Champions League wearing the famous white shirt. Ronaldo brings up the milestone having scored 105 goals in his previous 99 games in the competition. In reaching his European century for 'Los Blancos', Ronaldo joined an exclusive group comprised of Iker Casillas, Raul, Sergio Ramos and Roberto Carlos. The Portuguese holds a host of records in the competition, including being the all-time record goalscorer. The 33-year-old has 15 goals in 11 games so far this season in Europe's premier club competition but whilst he is planning to continue his career at the top level for some time yet, he still has some way to go to beat Casillas' record of 150 Champions League appearances for Real Madrid.
