Ronaldo earned yet another piece of Champions League history on Wednesday, despite seeing his goalscoring run come to an end.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the player with the most wins in Champions League history as Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 victory at Bayern Munich.

The holders came from behind to win the first leg of the semi-final tie at the Allianz Arena, with Marcelo and Marco Asensio overturning Joshua Kimmich's opening goal.

It means Ronaldo has now won 96 matches in the competition, one more than his former Madrid team-mate Iker Casillas.

The victory, which was Madrid's 150th in the Champions League, came despite the Portugal star seeing his own remarkable scoring run in Europe come to an end.
It was the first time Ronaldo failed to get a goal in a match in this competition since May 2017, in the semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid – a run of 11 consecutive games.

Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich:

Defender David Alaba faces a race against time to prove his fitness after sitting out the final training session ahead of the game with a thigh straing. Should he not make it, his place in the squad is expected to be taken by Brazilian full-back Rafinha. Midfielder Corentin Tolisso is also a doubt with a bruised shin. On-loan playmaker James Rodriguez could feature against his parent club, but Kingsley Coman and Arturo vidal will both miss out with ankle and knee injuries respectively.

Real Madrid:

Zinedine Zidane's side have no new injury concerns ahead of this one. Defender Nacho continues to be sidelined by an ankle injury suffered against Las Palmas, but other than that 'Los Blancos' have a full complement to choose from.

Bayern Munich Manager Jupp Heynckes:

Jordan Henderson is confident Mohamed Salah will not be lured away from Anfield in the same manner the Egyptian was tempted from Roma last year.

Salah has surpassed all expectations since his then-club record 42 million-euro (£37 million, $52 million) move back to the Premier League last June and will face his old club in the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final on Tuesday. An incredible return of 41 goals in 46 appearances saw Salah crowned the Premier League Players' Player of the Year on Sunday.

However, unlike Liverpool stars of recent seasons such as Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho, who were attracted by the glamour of a move to Barcelona, Henderson hopes Salah is convinced to stay by the growing momentum at Liverpool and the belief they can compete for major trophies under Jurgen Klopp. "He's a fantastic player, obviously he's up there with the world's best and there will be other clubs that want to take him away," said Henderson.

"But he's in a great place with a great set of lads, great team, with a great manager, going in the right direction. We want to create our own history here and I'm sure Mo will want to be part of that for many years to come." 22-year-old Germany international beat out the likes of Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Marcus Rashford to take the prestigious annual prize Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been rewarded for a spectacular season in England with the PFA Young Player of the Season award.

Sane, 22, signed for the Citizens from Schalke in 2016 for a fee of £37 million. The Germany international impressed in his first Premier League term, and made the PFA shortlist for the best young talent in 2016-17.

He has gone one better this season, beating out team-mates Ederson and Raheem Sterling to take the award.

Sane has made 28 appearances to date in the league, scoring nine goals to help City stroll to the title with five games to spare.

In all competitions the winger has hit 13 times in 45 games, proving a valuable option for City across the forward line as Pep Guardiola's men took the Premier League by storm. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season, bringing his 22-year reign to an end.

The Frenchman announced on Friday that he would quit the club at the end of the current campaign, a year before his contract was due to end.

This year’s Coachella headliners have been quite something, The Weeknd kicking off the weekend with a hit-packed set while Beyoncé blew everyone away with a stunning show.

Southampton:

The 'Saints' have almost everybody free at their disposal, the only absentees being Jack Stephens, who is suspended after being sent off in Southampton's previous game against Arsenal, and Steven Davis, who is not yet back to 100% in his recovery from an achilles injury.


Mario Lemina and Shane Long are both doubtful, although they could be in contention from the bench. It is possible that Jan Bednarek could receive a Premier League debut to fill Jack Stephens' place in the five-man defence, although Mark Hughes could also revert back to a back four.

Chelsea:

Ross Barkley returns to the squad for the 'Blues', after recovering from a hamstring injury, however he is lacking match fitness and is doubtful to start. David Luiz is expected to be out for a few more weeks as he recovers from an ankle problem, while Thibaut Courtois (hamstring), Pedro (knock), Davide Zappacosta (hamstring) and Danny Drinkwater (groin) are all doubts.

Southampton Manager Mark Hughes:

The Saints boss made it clear that he was happy with the performance last week against Arsenal, even if the result wasn't positive. "Clearly after the West Ham game, any momentum we were hoping to get from the cup game [against Wigan] had been dissipated," he said.

"So we needed to have a good performance, which I felt we did against Arsenal, albeit we didn't get the result we all wanted," "But confidence hasn't been diminished in any way, shape or form. We're ready to go. We've had another good week and we'll get the benefit of that. It's a busy week and one that will test us, but we're all ready for it and ready for the challenge."

Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte:

The London side face Southampton on Sunday 22, but Conte is focusing on this game for now. "We have to go game by game," he said. "Tomorrow is the most important for us against Southampton." Champions League quarter-finals, as Barcelona host Roma at the Camp Nou in the first leg of their tie.

Barcelona:

The big news for Barcelona is that key midfielder Sergio Busquets is likely to return to the team, after recovering from the injury that he sustained against Chelsea in the Champions League round of 16.

Another big boost for Barca will be the return of Leo Messi, who was only fit enough for a substitute cameo when his side took on Sevilla recently. The main miss for the home side will be Philippe Coutinho, who is cup tied, having played for Liverpool in the Champions League this season, although his absence will be offset by Busquets' return.




Roma:

The visitors will be without midfielder Cengiz Under, who picked up an injury on international duty with Turkey.

Radja Nainggolan was also an injury concern, after limping off when Roma faced Bologna, however the midfielder has been named in Di Francesco's squad.

The Barca coach is glad to see Busquets and Messi back, and called the pair "fundemental" to his team. "The players are so good in their own position," Valverde said. Nigeria has moved forward under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, in spite of the huge challenges it inherited, Amb. Samson Itegboje, Permanent Representative to the UN, said.

Itegboje made thos known during a Town Hall forum organised by the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC and the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) U.S.



The theme of the forum is “The strength and voice of the Nigerian Diaspora’’. The Envoys, however, said that the Buhari’s administration had been shy in publicising some of its achievements for the citizens to be properly informed.

“We are witnesses to the fact that prior to the coming of the government of President Buhari, the economy was almost grinding to a halt. “In fact, President Muhamadu inherited a recessed economy waiting to happen. “Boko Haram was running riots in the country and has even held sway in 14 local governments in Borno.

“Corruption had almost become normal and our infrastructure had decayed among others. “But this government went to work and I must confess that the government appears to be publicity shy,’’ Itegboje said. He reeled out some of the successes achieved so far in less than three years of the current administration, saying they are subject to verification.

“It takes three years for a country to exit recession but it took this government less than one years and a half to exit recession. “Foreign reserves have peaked at about 43 billion dollars, the highest level in about four years and up from 24 billion dollars just a year ago.’’ He said the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) had stopped the haemorrhaging of the Treasury, adding that N108 billion had been saved from the removal of maintenance fees payable to banks pre-TSA.

“Nigeria raised 24 places on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Ranking and earned a place on the list of 10 top performers in the world. “According to third quarter 2017 figure, agriculture export is up year-on-year by 25 per cent while solid minerals export is up year-on-year by 78 per cent. “Raw materials export is up 70 per cent year-on-year and manufactured goods export is up 22 per cent year-on-year while our non-crude oil earning amount to 40 per cent in foreign reserves,’’ the Envoy said.

According to him, government agencies like the Nigeria Customs Service and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) were reporting highest ever revenue collection. He recalled that JAMB recently remitted N7.8 billion naira compared to a paltry N51 million between 2010 and 2016. “Six million rice farmers in 2015 have grown to over 12 million farmers, leading to a reduction in rice importation from Thailand.

Dele Alli marked his 100th Premier League appearance by scoring a brace to help Tottenham to a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The game looked like being key in deciding which team would claim the fourth and final Champions League place and it was Spurs who claimed the spoils.




As is natural in a game of such magnitude, it started slowly, with neither side wanting to overcommit in the opening exchanges. Alli got his bearings all wrong when he rose to meet Christian Eriksen's cross from the left, whilst Marcos Alonso saw a beautiful volleyed effort chalked off for offside as he met N'Golo Kante's cross from deep with 19 minutes gone.

Willian has been in imperious form of late and his strike from range almost escaped Hugo Lloris' grasp, only for the Frenchman to claim it at the second attempt.

Tottenham goalkeeper wasn't so lucky as the game reached the half-hour mark though as he gifted the hosts the lead. Victor Moses crossed from the right and Lloris came to claim, only to get nowhere near the ball, giving Alvaro Morata the simple task of rising to head into the unguarded net.
