Family / Be Inspired: My Wife Left Me, I Lived Without Hope. by octopus111: 10:08am On Nov 14, 2018
Sidiku Olusegun Omoluabi.

Do not write an end to your story, when your life may not have even begun!

Today i share another unique story with you:

As he approached where i had been waiting for him, i could hear the sound of his car stereo from afar, he listened to Dolly Parton's Coat of many colors, he seemed engrossed in the song, that he sang along so loud, so beautifully and so effortlessly, i saw a happy man.

Oh,here he comes! i exclaimed, Mr. Yakubu(a fictitious name) had come to take on a certain task for me, a gentleman he is, God fearing, hardworking, and he also keeps to time (I love when people keep to time).

"Good morning Mr. Yakubu, how are you doing today sir, and thanks for making it here on time", these i said

With a smile on his face,he replied the same vein.

Mr. Yakubu's rare character marvels me, he earns little, yet appears happy and overly contented always, would do his job so diligently and would give a hundred percent!

On this day, out of my flaring curiosity to understand how he pulls his magic, i thought i should explore !

So, jokingly i said , "sir, when you drive around in your car, you always listen to beautiful songs, you would tune the volume of your car stereo so loud, would sing along and aloud too, you always look happy, does it mean you don't have any issues sir, a burden? "

Lol,
Silly, right?, i know

An uneasy question that was, but not for Mr. Yakubu, with a canny expression on his face ,he looked at me and said "Sir, we cannot afford to live everyday of our lives in a way that it would depict that we have challenges ,no we cannot"

For some seconds he paused...., then continued

" It pleases the devil seeing you sad, you just have to decide never to give him that joy, for our God does not fail" .

"I had a terrible accident, i was bedridden for a long time, my wife left with our four children, children I've been denied access to, till this very moment,

They thought i was going to die, i thought i was going to die, i lived without hope but God did not fail me,

You see these hands sir, these bones you see are not in anyway connected, but I've learnt to drive with them

If i twist this hand (his right hand) , what you would see would amaze you"

"I've got to look past my circumstances and give life another chance, these words i speak to myself, everyday"

Oh....., at this point my heart became really heavy, i could feel my heartbeat in my mouth, i was teary eyed, i could have beaten myself up for starting the conversation that led to these revelations......

Wow, so there's a story behind every smile and a meaning to every tear?
If you're yet victorious, could it be that you've been scared of being defeated?
What stops you from giving life another shot when God has not given up on you!

Hmmmm..... alright everyone, i bet you wonder what my response was, right?

I just said " sir, that song you played on your way here, coats of many colors, could you play that particular song again, and please turn it up very loud!!!!!"

He obliged, he played the song really loud, we sang together, and as we sang, we smiled emotionally, and we laughed.

His story has just begun.

Politics / Not Too Young To Run: Father And Son Conversation. by octopus111: 11:27am On Mar 13, 2018
After a less productive day, this conversation ensued between a father and his son(a frustrated young man).

Son: Dad, your generation has failed us, you had better lives when you were younger dad, but you chose to make a mess of ours!

Dad: Haaa! how do you mean my son?

Son: Nothing seems to be working in this country dad, there are no jobs, no power, health care is in shambles, there's fuel price hike, we are even being told that we are unemployable, that our skills are obsolete, and corruption seems to be on the rise, amongst other issues dad

Dad: Hmmm, and you blame my generation for all these, son?

Son: Yes dad, remember you said things were different in your time.

Dad: Yes, things were different in our time, but listen son, you see, when i was your age, those in government were within my age bracket, those men could relate directly to our plights b'cos it had the same effect/impact on all of us, i'm almost 80years old now son, surprisingly, those in government are still within my age bracket, men who no longer need to apply for jobs, who do not need to go to school anymore, men who can afford fuel at any rate, whose generators can run on fuel 24hrs a day.

Son: I do not understand the point you're trying to drive home dad, could you be more explicit?

Dad: Ok, how old are you again son?

Son: Dad, have you forgotten you brought me into this mess 28yrs ago?

Dad: 28years you said, and who do you say you stand with again?

Son: I stand with Baba

Dad:

Son: Dad!!!

Dad: These are your failures son, your generation are the ones who have failed this nationand also failed some of us, the blame is totally on your generation!

Son: Hmmm

Dad: You see, Nigeria worked during our time because we made use of competent analog minds, but it's a new world today son, and what you need are competent digital minds.

Son: Dad!!!!

Dad: Would you allow me enjoy my palm wine and colanut in peace now?

Only your generation can fix this mess!

Politics / From The Bush To The Bank! by octopus111: 7:22am On Feb 23, 2018
By Sidiku Olusegun Omoluabi.

Given the tales of sequential animal armed robberies that have been trending in the media space lately, as a concerned citizen and for the love i have for my country, i would advise this administration to set up a committee on wildlife , for these nefarious activities of these animals are capable of plunging Nigeria into another economic recession!

How did we get here, where exactly did we get it all wrong, animals have now declared war on us?

Lately i've been sleeping with my two eyes opened , so my dog doesn't abscond with my ATM card.

Surprised? Haven't you seen dogs withdrawing money at ATM spots lately?

We need to act and the best time is now, for i see lions, monkeys and more snakes invading the CBN soon!

Dear lord, please who are we sef?

What kind of clay did you mold us with sef? (i swear, i dey suspect the clay o)

One more question Lord,
Did you create us before you rested on the 7th day, was it while you were resting or after you had rested sir?

Just about two 2days ago, a neighbour misplaced her insecticide, and the next thing i heard her say was that mosquitoes had stolen her insecticide
May God deliver us biko! Lol

BTW, these "point and kill fishes" here have been staring at me somehow o, should i run for my life ?

Politics / Obj's Letter: Now That Baba Has Spoken! by octopus111: 5:45am On Jan 30, 2018
When a baby cries in the night, it keeps only the mother awake, but when a father cries in the night, it wakes the entire community! It means trouble!

In the early hours of today, i painstakingly read through a PDF file a friend had sent to me, an epistle that ex-president Obasanjo had written to "brother Buhari", one in which salient issues were touched, articulated in the best possible way and solutions proffered.

Haven fully understood the brilliantly crafted piece, i would say i share most concerns of baba, which bothers on security, economy, war against corruption, the perceived second term ambition of president Buhari and more!

An administration reeks of incompetency, nepotism, favouritism, and when confronted with these issues, they would say they've only taken the mantle of leadership for 2years, that they would need more time!

More time?

Benue has already been turned into a hunting den, where humans are continually being hunted like animals!

They say more time, untill herdsmen turn benue into Gaza or Syria?
More time until herdsmen begin to drive armoured tanks into villages or until they're skilled enough to make and use the IEDs!?
There is trouble in the land!

If president Buhari's administration is not ashamed of the way herdsmen attacks has gained momentum and transmogrified into a national disaster under their watch, then one would wonder what tops their priorities at this perilous time, an entire state is almost nearing extinction, generations are being slaughtered, sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, babies, nursing mothers, even pregnant women are not left out, this is rather an unfortunate development, a very sad one, highly despicable, inhumane and a disgrace!
We are in trouble!

Can any son of Benue,Plateau,Taraba be proud of being a Nigerian at the moment?
How about those reported cases in Ondo state, Ekiti state, Kogi state, and some other parts of the country?

OBJ on "condonation of misdeed"!

Baba in his letter mentioned what he described as "condonation of misdeed".

Only recently did we know that one thief could be holier than the other, and that people could actually be guilty before an investigation, while "unholy thieves" are investigated by the EFCC, the "apostles" are investigated "presidentially" in the aso Villa by a "COMMITTEE"!
How about those ghosts who returned looted funds? oh well, since they don't have names, i guess one would be right to refer to them as ghosts! Ghost looters?
Where is Maina? till this very moment, Mr. Maina's case still remains a mystery, Babachir Lawal remains unsolved!

An egalitarian's approach has always been my position in this fight against corruption, what we want to see is this war waged holistically!
Is this too much to ask for?

On Boko Haram, baba was also right!

Some credits should be given to this administration in this regard, they've done significantly well i must admit and kudos to every Nigerian who puts their lives on the line everyday to ensure that this country is safe again, thank you, you are the true heroes!

On economy.

We see those fictitious figures they put out there, and those figures look good, but it still puzzles me that their figures has been in total contractions to the reality on ground!
We've had more job losses within the last 2years, more than we've ever recorded since 1999, despite the bailout funds, workers salaries are still not being paid by these governors who run to Abuja to endorse Mr. President for a second term, how many litres of fuel can a civil servant's salary buy today? is fuel even available?

Scan through the cabinet of this administration and you'd see the nepotism baba mentioned.

Should Mr. President seek reelection.

When the Late Nelson Mandela was asked if he would seek a second term in office, he had this to say: "In 1999 I will be 79 or 80. I don't think an octogenarian should be meddling with political affairs.
"I would like to give over to a younger man. I will be available for advice if they want me, but to occupy a position as a head of state, definitely, I won't take that risk."

President Buhari will be 76 years old by next year, if he wins again, he would be 81 years old by the end of his second tenure.
My stance on this is overly conspicuous! Baba needs rest!
God bless Nigeria.

Politics / On Whose Side Are You? by octopus111: 3:16pm On Jul 27, 2017
-One would think that the true wishes of Nigerians would be conveyed to Mr. President by these non salary paying attention seeking governors and others, who visits him in London solely to take pictures!

The ineptitude of these crop of men has caused untold hardship on the masses of this country.
Yet this recycled bunch continue to offer false assurances of a great country.
We are truly living a lie!

- If only 40% of an estimated 180million people would see Mr. President's foreign medical trips as an aberration,an insult to Nigerians whose taxes are flown abroad, who inversely can't afford a sachet of paracetamol, and on the basis of this, amongst other related issues call for his resignation and apology, those deaths in those far away villages and cities due to inadequate medical care would reduce drastically!
On whose side are you?

- Less than 3weeks ago, a friend's cousin died due to an alleged wrong diagnosis, people are abandoned everyday in our various dilapidated hospitals, left to die because of stipends, million deaths are recorded yearly in this country, for reasons avoidable.

Why are they not looking at subsidising health care for the unemployed, the aged and people with terminal ailments, who require continuous medical treatments?

- How much of taxpayers money have they spent in this London hospital, while the state house clinic still runs on a 3.9billion naira budget!

As this "incorruptible change" administration been transparent enough to disclose figures of their expenditures on Mr. President's health in this foreign hospital to Nigerians?
This must stop!

- Speedy recovery and safe return Mr.President, our prayers are with you.
God bless Nigeria.

Politics / Recession: How President Buhari And Aides Merry In The UK, Promote "Made In UK" by octopus111: 12:32pm On Jan 28, 2017
It's rather unbecoming of this administration, as they sequentially aberrate ethics they paint to Nigerians daily, act in contradiction to the "change" illumination they project, and berates concerned citizens who despite fears of being castigated or "witch-hunted" continue to express their worries. After a long silence, though conscious of the happenings around, i feel compelled once more to pen down my worries, by virtue of my responsibility to my country.

Prior to the passing of the late African icon, Nelson Mandela, we understood he had a long battle with his health, what we also know is that he never at anytime flew abroad to seek medical care, despite having enormous resources at his disposal to do so at any place of his choosing.

In our clime the reverse has always been the case,as President Buhari once flew in a private jet bought with tax payers money to the UK, fueled with tax payers money, to treat an ear infection, paid for with tax payers money, and has continued to do so at the detriment of government owned hospitals, which continues to dilapidate daily, what an aberration to what is expected of any nation's number one citizen, after having budgeted 3.9billion naira for an upgrade of his official clinic, the state house clinic. Mr. President should lead by example,President Buhari must "change".

On the state of the nation's economy,i don't think any government can insouciantly handle the activities of the likes of the "avengers" and avoid an economic recession in Nigeria,no way, wastages of previous administrations is also a factor but that's secondary, while other reasons are just mere excuses.

I know a President who can be said to have truly met an empty treasury, according to formal President Olusegun Obasanjo, he only inherited $3.7 billion in reserve when he assumed office in 1999,oil price was $9 and also inherited a country in huge debt, we know how Nigerians faired under his administration,a huge chunk of the debt was cleared and foreign reserve was at an all time high, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

That was a government that made use of top-notch technocrats, who understood the direction the country needed to go,unlike the compensatory cabinet we have now, constituted of politicians who only think 2019.

This administration's fictitious road map to getting the country out of recession will remain a facade if a compromise is not reached with the people of the Naija delta region, either long term or short term, the projected 2.5million barrels of crude oil per day for the implementation of our budget must be met or nothing changes.

Revenues from that region, amongst other sources, is what we need to diversify the economy, not a loan from China. I suggest we look inwards.

Politics / #changebeginswithme: Mr President Should Resign Or Change His Cabinet. by octopus111: 9:09am On Sep 19, 2016
On the current state of the nation's economy, I'm compelled to demand that President Muhamadu Buhari resigns or reshuffles his cabinet in the overall interest of the estimated 180million citizens of this nation, for what we have at this point is what i call " a compensatory cabinet", which itself is corruption, invariably undermining the much publicised "integrity" on which Mr President was voted and in all ramifications precarious to the sustainance of our hard earned democracy and the survival of this great entity called Nigeria.

The Nigeria we have today is a "changed" one,Mr President met a converted Nigeria and if he still doubts that, then he should be reminded of the critical moment our resolve was tested during the last presidential election, how we shocked the world by remaining one indivisible nation even though there were strong indications that we would disintegrate
and how his major contender congratulated him even before election results were formally announced.

The continuous patience and support this administration has enjoyed since inception, despite being characterised by eccentric economic policies and consistent reversion to blame game, is also a testament that this indeed is a changed nation, given the fact that violence would have been a viable option, typical of many nations today.

What is pertinent at this point is the need for Mr President to begin to prove to Nigerians that he is "changed" enough himself to rule this new Nigeria and that he can be that president this new Nigeria needs, which he must hastily begin by giving Nigerians the cabinet they truly deserve.
As a people, we've changed enough for a changed President and his "change" administration.

Politics / On The Current Fuel Scarcity And The Presidential Petroleum Minister. by octopus111: 12:35am On Apr 03, 2016
I think we should unanimously ask the minister of petroleum ( President Muhammadu buhari) to stop traveling like Kim Kardashian and handle the fuel scarcity we're facing in this country or relinquish that sensitive position to a competent person before the country collapses.

That president buhari has failed as minister of petroleum is clearly irrefutable,as Nigerians continue to battle with fuel scarcity on a daily basis since his self appointment and this brings to mind the high recklessness of the 8th senate and their charade ministerial screening, shouldn't they have screened president buhari before he was allowed to handle the petroleum ministry? and why has he not been asked to appear before the Senate committee on petroleum since this scarcity started? Guess we shouldn't expect the senate to summon a man they were too scared to invite for screening!

Mr president, if truly your change agenda is about Nigerians, I would expect you to do what is best for the populace by doing your job as petroleum minister with utmost seriousness or appoint a competent individual to handle that sensitive position as your total reliance on the petroleum minister of state has not yielded any positive results.

We wish you all the best on your visit to the United States of America and we hope you'll find time to visit the people of benue state being attacked daily by fulani herdsmen before you probably fly again to Cotonou or Argentina sir.
God bless Nigeria

Politics / The 8th Senate: Gradually Becoming A Haven Of Buffoons And Circuses? by octopus111: 6:49pm On Apr 01, 2016
The widespread indiscipline and corruption that has been ossified by our leaders, which has led to the slothful development of this nation, can only be decimated if every Nigerian acquiesces to always put this nation first in all they do.

We once resolved that the decay in the system was as a result of the infringement of our right to having a say in who represents us at the various arms of government, but surprisingly nothing significant has changed since every Nigerian adult became a stake holder in governance, via the electioneering process that came as a result of our peaceful transition into the democratic system of government about 17years ago.

It is saddening that some Nigerians sell their votes to the highest bidders for stipends, some tend towards religious and ethnic path while deciding, unwarranted loyalty to political parties and selfish leaders who care less about their sufferings. Some became political entrepreneurs (the Jagabans) conveniently sitting at the top of the food chain, making unchangeable decisions and the (cabals) holding the country to ransom at will. Some politicians sing accolades to these fellows for fear of being politically decapitated while some people endanger their lives fulfilling their selfish ambitions due to their high level of illiteracy, poverty and gullibility while some are just misinformed.
While we watch, the reputable red chamber is gradually being turned into a haven of buffoons and circuses by some of the products of our numerous failures as a people.

The 8th senate has been nothing short of a circus show since its inauguration,is it the way and manner in which the election of her principal officers was conducted? Or the ministerial screening that was insouciantly handled? Even our local food vendors "mama put"would never have screened those nominees in such a laughable manner. How about the charges of alleged illegal assets declaration leveled against the senate president,in which one would have thought that some of our elected senators would have set aside their party/personal interests, putting the nation and the integrity of the hallowed chamber first by joining others to unanimously ask the senate president to step aside pending the outcome of his trial at the CCT, as it is the moral thing to do but rather, they continuously abandon their numerous duties to grace the court, probably to intimidate the presiding judge or just to show solidarity to one embattled senator while national issues suffer. What an utter show of shame!

While a few spend ample time brainstorming on measures to revive the downtrodden economy, thereby coming up with laudable ideas and slogans, aimed at encouraging Nigerians to patronize the local brands in order to strengthen the naira, some are busy making senseless contributions like "made in Nigeria women", some even had the effrontery to suggest to Nigerians to start marrying more wives.
How many schools will the money being spent by someone to mobilize over eighty lawyers to the CCT, build for his people? Or the money one spent on the flamboyant tricycle he's busy driving on the streets of Abuja, which he could have channeled towards the ware-fare of his people.
All this makes one to wonder the basis on which some of this people secured their party's nominations and people's votes. Could it be that they were the highest bidders in their various constituencies?

I say it's time we begin to hold these leaders accountable on their promises and ensure that they're constantly reminded that they're in these positions to serve the interests of the masses.

I say it's not too late for the 8th senate to win back the hearts of Nigerians, they can still restore the confidence we once had in them by focusing on issues that are pertinent to the change we are yearning for.

To aid in the fight against corruption, bills protecting whistle blowers should be sponsored and passed into law, as this will encourage more people to come out and expose misconducts in the system and also curb corruption without fear of being witch hunted. We need laws prohibiting political office holders and their families (Mr president inclusive) from engaging in further foreign medical trips and sending their children to foreign schools as this would force them to pay attention to the decaying medical and education sector in the country. In order to encourage local production and ensure patronage, higher taxes should be imposed on imported goods that can be locally made in Nigeria. Leading by example, government must adopt vehicles locally made and assembled in Nigeria for its official use, thereby Increasing higher local content.

And as citizens,we should be part of the change process by prioritizing competence when voting people into public offices, candidate's integrity and party manifesto should be paramount and we should also ensure that we always do the right thing at the polls.
However, our duties doesn't stop the polls,as there is no country in the world that has ever succeeded with nonchalant/unconcerned citizens,as nothing is more patriotic than being actively involved in all the positive reformations of the government.
God bless Nigeria.
