Armed Miyetti Allah members set up vigilante group, checkpoint in Ondo.
Some armed members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria have set up a vigilante group in Ondo State, mounting checkpoints along the highway.


The General Secretary of Forward Buhari, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, said this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily in Abuja on Monday.

Ajulo said he was travelling to Ondo State with armed policemen on Sunday when he sighted the armed herdsmen with their cattle.

The former National Secretary of the Labour Party said when he accosted the herdsmen, they claimed they were doing it with the permission of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said, “I was in my state yesterday (Sunday) when I saw Fulani herdsmen under the auspices of Miyetti Allah tagged themselves as Vigilante Group of Ondo State in this country, in the South-West. An Army Colonel, a Captain with his four escorts and a driver were killed Thursday killed by rampaging Boko Haram insurgents between Mainok and Jakana along Damaturu/Maiduguri highway.

Sources revealed that the Colonel and his convoy ran into some fleeing insurgents who were retreating after a heavy gunfire exchange between them and soldiers at Jakana in an attack that lasted for hours.

A military source who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity denied insinuations that it was an ambush, saying that, “the Colonel with his escort was just unlucky to run into the insurgents on his way from Maiduguri to Damaturu without knowledge of the ongoing attack on the highway”.

The source also confirmed that the Colonel is from 29 Task Force Brigade of Sector II of Operation Lafiya Dole.

The source also informed that the insurgents were dealt a heavy blow as one of their gun trucks was burnt and several of them killed.

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students on Thursday threatened to shut down the South African Embassy in Nigeria.

According to media reports, A local fisherman identified simply as Pewo has been found dead at the shores of Brass Island, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The fisherman said to be 43 reportedly went fishing on Sunday evening but failed to return while his son, who accompanied him was said to be missing.

The deceased, who hails from Ogbokiri, was suspected to have drowned alongside his son following rising tide and high current at the ocean.

The boy, who was identified as Erogbanyon Pewo, was one of the six children of the deceased.

An Ibadan based businessman, Wasiu Ajibola, has told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, to disintegrate his multi year-old marriage to his better half, Sadiya, because of her hardheadedness and noncompliance to him.

As indicated by Media reports The prevalent and very much looked for after ‘Amigos Supermarket’ otherwise called ‘4U Supermarket’, in Wuse 2, Abuja, was gutted by flame on Tuesday.

Mr Jerry Timvh, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, confirmed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Timvh said that the fire outbreak, which affected only the warehouse section of the store, started at about 1:30p.m but was successfully put out by firefighters at 7:30p.m.

According to him, the cause of the fire is yet to be discovered as investigation is ongoing

“The fire incident led to the loss of many goods in the store but an exact estimate of how much is yet to be revealed.

“The fire did not affect the main supermarket as it was controlled to reduce wild spread.

“There was no casualty as shoppers and staff of the store were able to evacuate the store immediately the fire started,” he said.

According to media reports; The Jigawa state Hisbah command, have arrested 30 commercial sex workers and also confiscated 37 carton of alcohol in Taura Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking to newsmen, Hisbah Commander, Malam Ibrahim Dahiru said the suspects were arrested after operatives of the agency, in collaboration with the police, carried out a raid at Gugunju village.

A 51-year-old suspect, Jibrin Ibrahim, and 14 others were on Wednesday paraded by the Joint Investigative Panel comprising of representatives of the Defence Headquarters, the police and the Department of State Services, over the murder of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh.
