Rt Hon Givens Edionwe Condemns PSR’s Reckless Treatment of Drivers in Edo State

The ongoing mistreatment of government drivers by members of the Public Sector Reform (PSR) team in Edo State has reached an alarming level, leading to accidents and even tragic loss of lives. This reckless behavior is not only unacceptable but also a direct threat to public safety and governance.

Reports indicate that PSR officials have been engaging in aggressive confrontations with drivers, creating hostile work environments and endangering lives on the roads. Such actions contradict the very essence of public sector reform, which should be focused on efficiency, discipline, and service delivery—not intimidation and lawlessness.

The Edo State Government must take immediate action to address this issue. Leadership should call the PSR team to order, enforce discipline, and ensure that government drivers are treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. A thorough investigation should be launched, and those responsible for reckless behavior must be held accountable to prevent further tragedies.

Public service should be about upholding professionalism and protecting lives, not causing harm. The government must step in now before more lives are lost due to negligence and misconduct.

False Hope of Asue Winning the Edo Election Tribunal Case

Distinguished guests, respected leaders, and the good people of Edo State,

I stand before you today not as a bearer of mere opinions but as a voice of reason in the face of misplaced expectations. Over the past months, we have witnessed a political battle unfold—a contest that many hoped would bring about a different outcome. However, as reality sets in, it becomes clear that the hope of Asue Ighodalo winning the Edo Election Tribunal case is nothing more than an illusion, a false hope that does not align with the facts before us.

From the very beginning, the election was conducted under the watchful eyes of the people, the electoral umpire, and observers both local and international. The results were declared, and the will of the people was made known. Yet, as is common in politics, the losing side clung to the idea that the courts would overturn the verdict of the ballot box. While the legal process is an essential part of democracy, it is also important that we do not deceive ourselves with unrealistic expectations.

The truth remains that election petitions are not won based on sentiments, social media noise, or wishful thinking. They are won based on solid evidence—evidence that is convincing enough to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the election was marred by substantial irregularities capable of affecting the outcome. And from all indications, such evidence has not been established in this case.

Moreover, history has shown that tribunals do not easily overturn elections unless there is overwhelming proof of malpractice. The burden of proof lies on the petitioner, and as we have seen, the case presented has been weak, riddled with inconsistencies, and lacking in legal merit. No matter how much some may desire a different result, the judiciary does not function on emotions—it functions on facts and the rule of law.

Therefore, it is time to move forward. The people of Edo State deserve good governance, not endless legal battles that lead nowhere. We must channel our energy towards holding the elected government accountable, ensuring that promises made are fulfilled, and working together for the progress of our dear state. Clinging to false hope will only breed unnecessary tension and delay the development that we all seek.

To those who still believe in the dream of overturning this election, I say: let us be honest with ourselves. Let us accept the reality and focus on the future. Elections will come and go, but Edo State remains. Our unity, our development, and our collective prosperity should be our priority.

May wisdom guide our steps, and may Edo State continue to move forward in peace and progress.

Yesterday, I took a very painstaking decision, although this wore heavy on my heart, it was a decision I had to no doubt make.

Over the last couple of months, I had the chance to sit back and deeply reflect on issues regarding the PDP in Edo State especially. Upon very sober reflection, I came to realise that there were some very salient fundamental issues, that cannot be resolved.
