The Yoruba people who today exist as peaceful loving people had long histories of internal wars. One of the most popular tribal wars in world history is the Kiriji or Ekiti-parapo War, lasting from 1877 to 1893. It is considered the longest inter tribal war in the world. This 16-year conflict, primarily between Ibadan and the combined forces of Ekiti and Ijesha, earned its onomatopoeic name "Kiriji" due to the thunderous cannons used by the Ekitis and Ijeshas under Ogedengbe's command. Despite the advantage, the war ended in a stalemate, marking the conclusion of all wars in Yoruba land. Remarkably, the Yoruba are the only ethnic group to engage in civil wars for 73 years (1820-1893) and still remain united as one tribe today. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has directed broadcast stations in Nigeria to stop reporting the details of attacks by fulani herdsmen, bandits and insurgents “Headlines of most Newspapers on a daily basis are replete with security topics,” NBC director of broadcast monitoring Francisca Aiyetan said in a letter to broadcast stations. NBC urged broadcast stations to be guided by provisions of sections 5.4.1(f) and 5.4.3 of the NBC Code which states that “the broadcaster shall not transmit divisive materials that may threaten or compromise the divisibility and indissolubility of Nigeria as a sovereign state. “The commission, therefore, enjoins broadcasters to collaborate with the government in dealing with the security challenges. “Not giving details of either the security issues or victims of these security challenges so as not to jeopardise the efforts of the Nigerian soldiers and other security agents.” https://guardian.ng/nnbc-orders-radio-tv-stationsto-stop-reporting-details-of-insurgent-attacks/amp

In a statement issued on Thursday, Rotimi said the palliatives have being distributed and are now being enjoyed by Nigerians... In a statement issued on Thursday, Rotimi reacted to claims that each member received palliatives in the sum of N600 million. While admitting that lawmakers are indeed receiving palliatives, Rotimi didn’t specify the form of the items. “The House of Representatives is monitoring a trending topic on social media, relating to the distribution of palliatives by honourable members, and in line with our legislative agenda which promises responsive, timely, and accurate information, the People’s House considers it necessary to respond to Nigerians to clarify issues,” “Our leadership successfully obtained palliatives for our constituents across the country, which is being handled by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in line with extant Public Procurement Laws. “While, as politicians, honourable members may be visible during the process of distribution, and rightfully take the credit for bringing succour to the people, the procurement and distribution of the palliatives is being handled by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. “We remain committed to ensuring diligent oversight in the implementation of the 2024 Appropriation Act — Budget of Renewed Hope — which holds the promise of bringing sustainable positive impact on the lives of Nigerians so that they can legitimately fend for themselves in dignity, ” the statement added. https://www.thecable.ng/reps-we-secured-constituency-palliatives-from-fg-no-money-was-received/amp

Says Houses Abandoned By Nigerian Victims Fleeing Terrorist Attacks In Plateau, Benue Are now being Occupied By Their Attackers .... Mr Christian Chim a public policy analyst who made this known during a programme on Arise News on Friday, lamented that the terrorists are taking over all the strategic places and settling there, while the people they attack cannot move back to their communities. Christian is the Executive Director of Africa's Morning Centre for Public Policy & Good Governance, has disclosed that houses abandoned by victims fleeing terrorist attacks in North Central Nigeria are been occupied by their assailants. He asserted that the terrorists sometimes attack with weapons that are superior to what the Nigerian Army has. He said that the assailants were not regular pastoralists, adding they were full-fledged terrorists. He said, "You need to ask yourself what happens to these communities after they have been attacked. Usually, a particular community is attacked like three or four times over a one-year period and the people in that community feel so unsafe that they move to the neighbouring community or an IDP camp. You would expect that those communities will remain empty. No, they won't; people come in and settle there. "As I am speaking with you, go to Liev council ward in Kwande local government area of Benue State. They have almost 38 communities in Mango local government alone that have been repossessed by people. "Plateau, for instance, used to be a mining site when Nigeria was big on mining, these people are taking over all of these strategic places. They are taking over bodies of water and they settle there and so it is not as if they attack and people can move back to their communities. "When people try to move back to their communities, the attacks resume and they run away. So, some other people are living in their houses now. If you go a bit further to see the modality in the upcoming census, NPC (National Population Commission) is not going to count those demolished houses. NPC instead is going to be counting those new settlements close to the demolished houses. "So, there is a serious problem; the ones we have on our hands are beyond what is being painted by the media. Let's still stick to the cause of the problem. You find a community where they will tell you they are coming and they will come. In some cases, 250 people while the community has like 20 or 30 vigilante services against people who have pump-action rifles when you know that the effective range of a good pump-action depending on the bullet you are using is 30 metres. "These guys have 400m weapon that they can fire at you from 400 miles away and they aim you and they get you. Sometimes they have air missiles, they have weapons that can fire at an operative range of 800m. They come with 50m calibre of weapons and the military-grade rifle they are coming with is superior to what our Nigerian Army has. "This is not your regular pastoralists; this is a full-fledged terrorist organisation and when you hear the vice president telling people to live in peace or to embrace peace, know you are embracing death. I've been to these places, I've seen shallow graves, I've talked to kids and I've seen people who have different kinds of things the pictures are all over our laptops. https://saharareporters.com/2023/12/29/houses-abandoned-nigerian-victims-fleeing-terrorist-attacks-plateau-benue-are-occupied

Vice president Shettima, who visited the Bende area of Abia State on Friday, said the President is worried about the economic devastation inflicted on the south east region owing to the assaults and terrorists activities in the region, promising to restore normalcy. “He is acutely aware that our commitment to Nigeria’s future remains incomplete as long as we grapple with the sinister operations of economic saboteurs who masquerade as advocates for the Ndi-Igbo,” the Vice President said at the unveiling of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. “That’s why he’s determined to utilize all available resources to ensure that the peace we’re establishing in this region is not cosmetic, and we can’t guarantee it unless all of us see through the falsehoods and propaganda that have become weapons against our unity.” Senator Shettima noted that the gory activities of the terrorists holding the South-East captive are self-serving and do not in any way represent the interests of Ndi-Igbo and the country. He said the terror groups that have held the region to ransom are not a creation of the people of the region or Nigerians from other parts of the country. “The problem we are here to solve as a community, as an Umunna, is a creation of self-serving criminals who do not represent the interests of the Ndi-Igbo and Nigerians. Mr. President knows this better than all of us, and that’s why he has never held any group accountable for the infractions of law-breaking individuals who identify as their members. This, I believe, is the democracy we have all chosen,” he maintained. https://www.channelstv.com/2023/12/29/tinubu-to-end-reign-of-terror-in-south-east-says-shettima/
