A number of books have been written, both by serving and former public officials in Nigeria. While so many of these books predominantly dwelt on the economy, politics, religion and autobiographies, very little have taken up the herculean task of starting a national conversation on ethnics, values, rebirth and love for country. But the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on April 27, at the International Conference Centre, launched a new book, entitled, ‘Who Will Love My Country’.http://sunnewsonline.com/day-buhari-showered-praise-on-ekweremadu/

ABAKALIKI—GOVERNOR David Umahi of Ebonyi State yesterday explained that there was no cogent reason for Ebonyi people to demand the immediate withdrawal of Fulani herdsmen from communities in the state, considering the harmonious relationship existing between Ebonyi people and the herdsmen.http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/dont-want-fulani-herdsmen-leave-land-umahi/

WHEN I SAW WHAT BUHARI DID WHEN THE YORUBAS DEALT WITH HIS FULANI HERDSMEN BROTHERS I KNEW WE ARE ON A LONG THING. It was on 13 October 2000, when words went round that General Muhammadu Buhari was leading the Arewa team to the governor’s office to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. Buhari did actually telephone the governor that he was leading a team to his office. In less than 30 minutes after the general informed the governor of his visit, we noticed that the entire secretariat was already filled with lorry loads of our brothers from the North. This created some tension but we kept our calm. At about 2 p.m., Buhari arrived in a long convoy at the governor’s office in company of the former governor of Lagos State, General Buba Marwa, Alhaji Aliko Muhammed, Alhaji Abdulrazak and Alhaji Hassan. They all wore long faces. In fact, the anger in them was palpable as all pleasantries extended to them were ignored. “This is trouble” was the expression on the faces of all of us in the governor’s office. Shortly afterwards, the state Director of State Security Service (SSS) and Commissioner of Police arrived. But their presence did not change anything particular on the fears that had already gripped majority of us. The two security chiefs did not come with any operatives, they came almost alone. Late Lam Adesina Photo NAN The meeting was called to order after Lam walked into the Executive Chambers. Introductions over, Buhari spoke on their mission to the governor’s office. Emitting fire, the general accused Lam and the government of Oyo State of complicity in the killing of over 68 Fulani people in Oke Ogun area and perversion of justice. His words: “Your Excellency, our visit here is to discuss with you and your government our displeasure about the incident of clashes between two peoples… the Fulani cattle rearers and merchants are today being harassed , attacked and killed like in Saki. In the month of May, 2000, 68 bodies of Fulani cattle rearers were recovered and buried under the supervision and protection from a team of Mobile Police from Oyo State Command. “ That some arrests were made by Oyo State Police Command in the massacre with their immediate release without court trial. This was said to have been ordered by Oyo State authorities and they were so released to their amazement. The release of the arrested suspects gave the clear impression that the authorities are backing and protecting them to continue the unjust and illegal killings of Fulani cattle rearers…” According to the general, they therefore wanted immediate stoppage of the killings, justice and compensation to the Fulanis. As weighty and indicting as Buhari’s allegations were, Lam remained unperturbed. He fired back with his own well coordinated arsenals. Lam identified all the points raised by Buhari and simply asked the heads of the organizations directly involved to respond to the allegations. First to speak was the Commissioner of Police who debunked all the claims. Instead of the allegation that the natives were killing Fulanis, the commissioner said pointedly that the opposite was the case. “ The killing of the natives by the Fulanis was duly reported to the police and, of course, we can’t make arrest because, as soon as they kill, they migrate to other areas. Who are you going to arrest? That is the problem”. On the killing of Fulanis, which he said was as result of “piled up anger”, the commissioner disclosed that arrests had been made and the suspects were in police custody. Next was the Director of SSS, who equally debuked the allegations by Buhari. “The natives don’t have problem with the Fulanis who are resident but those who are coming in, they don’t care about anybody. They just go ahead and when they graze the natives farms, whoever cares to challenge them runs into trouble. You said 68 people were killed , and people driven away. I am not saying there were no killings but they cannot be more than five. The petition is on the harsh side, there is nothing like that.” Not done yet, Lam called in his Deputy, Barrister Iyiola Oladokun; his SSG, Chief Michael Koleoso, both from Oke Ogun, and the chairman of one of the affected local government areas, Mr Ademola Alalade. They stated the true position of things, corroborating the submissions of the security chiefs. At this point, all the tensions and apprehensions evaporated. Trust Lam any day, he must rub it in. He spoke for about 20 minutes and the generals were at the edge of their seats for the entire period. They were like chicken that had just been thoroughly beaten by the rain. Lam said: “ Before I thank you for this visit, you have come to tell me something. I also want to tell you something and that something is to make an appeal. General Buhari has been a former Head of State, Brigadier Marwa has governed Lagos for some time and with credibility… so you are national leaders of this country. Even though, by accident of birth, you are from the North, you can be born anywhere; may be next time when I am coming to the world, I will be born in the North or the South- South. “My appeal will be that effort must be made to unite this country and that will be ïn the best interest of all Nigerians. I am appealing to the Arewa Consultative Forum, under which auspices our distinguished Nigerians are here; in recent times, they have been sending wrong signals to a number of us who believe in the unity and peace of Nigeria; you have been too critical of the efforts of the Federal Government. I am saying this because Nigeria, at this point, cannot afford to break and the words you northern leaders utter are very weighty, at the South here, we normally analyze them critically”. On all the allegations, he said: “From what they have written in the petition, this government is completely blameless because we don’t interfere either with the judiciary or with the police functions. I always preach peaceful co- existence in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole. We are all Nigerians and that is what we have been preaching all along and we shall continue to be Nigerians , no matter the present or immediate problems which will be solved by the grace of Allah. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/day-lam-adesina-clashed-with-buhari-marwa-others/ |
The embattled Senate President transferred a total of $3.47 million in 40 installments in four years with his credit card to the United States, a document obtained by PREMIUM TIMES revealed. He carried out the transactions through Guaranty Trust Bank between 2009, when he served as Kwara State governor, and 2012 when he served as the senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District. Prosecutors say the beneficiary accounts in the U.S. were also owned by Mr. Saraki. Some of the senator’s companies, during the same period, also transferred thousands of dollars to the U.S. accounts. The companies are Carlisle Properties and West Gate Ltd. Mr. Saraki is currently facing a 13-count charge bordering on corruption and false asset declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. He allegedly committed the offence when he served as governor between 2003 and 2011. The politician has denied any wrongdoing and alleged political persecution. Of the 13-count charges filed against the senate president, two are related to the transfer of the $3.47 million. Count 11 of the charges filed against Mr. Saraki states: That you, DR. OLUBUKOLA ABUBAKAR SARAKI on or about 25th August, 2008 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Tribunal, while being a public officer as the Executive Governor of Kwara State did operate a bank account outside Nigeria when you transferred the sum of $73, 223.28 (Seventy Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty-Three Thousand Dollars, Twenty-Eight cents) from your Guaranty Trust Bank Plc domiciliary account No 441441953210 to the American Express Services Europe Limited No: 730580 for onward credit to your American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009 and you thereby committed an offence contrary to paragraph 3 of Part I, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and Section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and punishable under paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 23 (2) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. Count 12 states: That you, DR. OLUBUKOLA ABUBAKAR SARAKI between August, 2009 and October 2012 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Tribunal, while being a public officer as the Executive Governor of Kwara State and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria did operate a bank account outside Nigeria when you transferred the aggregate sum of $3, 400, 000.00 (Three Million, Four Hundred Thousand Dollars) from your Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. domiciliary account No 441441953210 to the American Express Services Europe Limited no: 730580 for onward credit to your American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009 and you thereby committed an offence contrary to paragraph 3 of Part I, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 7 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act and punishable under paragraph 9 of the said Fifth Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and section 23 (2) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. A prosecution witness had told the CCT that documents related to the transfer were destroyed in an inferno. When being cross examined by the defence counsel, Paul Usoro, at the Tribunal last Tuesday, the prosecution witness, Michael Wetkas, said Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, told the investigation team that the transaction documents had been burnt. “There were also police reports and affidavit which they (the GTB) swore to show that some documents were burnt,” Mr. Wetkas stated. The document, obtained exclusively by PREMIUM TIMES, shows that Mr. Saraki, on August 26, 2009, transferred the $72,223.25 to the American Express Services Europe Limited no: 730580 for onward credit to the American Express Bank, New York card account No:374588216836009. Following the transfer, the bank charged him a commission of $732.23. It is not clear what the money transferred was meant for. That same day (August 26) one of his companies, Carlisle Properties Investment, transferred another $49,969.00. Between September 2009 and October 2012, Mr. Saraki transferred over $3 million. According to the document, in 2009 the senate president transferred $127,174.05 on September 8; $85,543.88 on October 21; and $127,586.41 on November 11. In 2010, he transferred $140,319 on January 4; $140,000 on March 15; $84,000 on April 16; $134,000 on May 18; $64,000 on June 21; $80,984 on July 29; $100,000 on August 31; $18,000 on September 2; $$48,900 on October 11; and $183,232.46 on December 8; In 2011, Mr. Saraki transferred $32,687 on February 21; $30,656.74 on March 22; $111,444.79 on June 22; $43, 651 on July 19; $91,738 on August 16; $10,000 on August 26; $65,000 on August 29; $112,140 on September 27; $147,000 on November 17; and $86,872.10 on December 14. The document also shows that in 2012, he transferred $50,000 on January 4; $145,000 on January 27; $7000 on January 27; $94,754.63 on February 10; $60,000 on April 12; $70,000 on May 11; $55,000 on May 17; $89,411.74 on June 12; $45,000 on September 6; and $45,308 on September 24; $130,000 on October 11; $77,000 on February 17; $77,000 on February 20; $70,648.44 on March 29; $70,000 on July 4; $138,000 on July 16; and $45,000 on September 5. Just as Mr. Saraki was making the transactions, his companies were also transferring monies to the U.S. totalling $2,099,257.00. For instance, apart from the August 26 transfer in 2009, Carlisle also transferred $59,964 on September 7; $99,961.30 on October 16; $109,000 on November 11; $50,000 on August 12; and $150,000 on December 31. In 2010, the company transferred $40,000 on April 14; $44,000 on April 15; $134,000 on May 14; $64,000 on June 17; $40,000 on July 23; $90,000 on August 27; $10,000 on August 30; $9,974 on August 31; $6,900 on September 1; $7,974 on September 2; $42,600 on October 5; and $183,000 on December 6. In 2011, it further transferred $32,000 on February 21; $30,700 on March 17; $40,730.35 on May 5; $111,400 on June 7; $43,660 on July 18; $48,800 on August 10; $43,000 on August 16; $25,750 on August 29; $40,250 on August 29; $112,800 on September 26; and $150,200 on November 17. In 2012, $146,975 on January 26; $71,000 on May 11; $5,450 on June 7; and $5,000 on December 7 were also transferred by the company. None of the companies is currently being prosecuted. Nigerian law, however, prevents some public officials including governors and senators from operating a foreign account; a law Mr. Saraki is accused of flouting. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/202347-exclusive-bank-documents-show-how-saraki-transferred-3-million-to-u-s.html |

Imagine this: A child is sick in a small village in the hills of Rwanda. It’s late at night, and the nearest hospital is hours away. So the kid’s worried mother picks up the phone, and, shortly thereafter, the much-needed asthma medication arrives — thanks to a drone. Yes, Dr. Drone may sound futuristic, but it could be a way to get ahead of neighboring Kenya , which has banned the use of this tech for fear of the terrorist group al-Shabaab. And unmanned aerial vehicles, as they’re technically known, could also be a game-changer for humanitarian purposes and trade in countries such as Rwanda, with few roads to rural areas. Indeed, this tiny East African country , known as the land of a thousand hills, is leading the continent into the future of drone use — it’s even home to what could become the world’s first drone port by the end of 2017. The word “drone” tends to conjure up images of terrified children running for cover in parts of the Middle East, or chubby nerds scaring passersby in San Francisco with their silent toys. And there are plenty of skeptics about how far this technology may go — many think deploying a large network of drones over developing countries is naive at best, and dangerous at worst. But for those like Jonathan Ledgard, a director at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, people have only begun to scratch the surface of this potentially world-changing technology. “Drones could do for transportation in Africa what mobile phones have done for banking,” he says. Despite their difference in beliefs, both sides agree that the lack of infrastructure for transportation is one of the main factors holding back sub- Saharan economies. According to a study by the University of Sydney, only 34 percent of rural Africans live within two kilometers of an all-season road, compared to 65 percent in other developing regions, like Southeast Asia. Even in nations like Nigeria and South Africa, where the economies are growing close to the double digits annually, the lack of infrastructure is getting in the way of farmers being able to sell their produce and e- commerce ventures distributing their goods. Drones could be part of the solution. At least that’s what people like Ledgard and his group of scientists say. They’ve spent the last few years developing and testing carrier drones for civilian purposes, and they’ll also be the ones in charge of filling Rwanda ’s drone hub with solar- powered flying machines. (The design will be the work of the world- renowned architect Norman Foster, who has already envisioned a series of clay-made domes overlooking a lake, where the port will be built.) “Drones offer us such a great opportunity for development,” says Eric Rutayisire, founder of CHARIS, Rwanda’s first drone-making company. But what about locals? While drones are likely to become cheaper and more accessible in the years to come, these machines currently cost thousands of dollars, putting them outside the reach of most folks here. And while some Western companies may heavily market their drones in this area, “we need to be wary of people promising quick fixes,” says Kristin B. Sandvik, director of the Norwegian Centre for Humanitarian Studies. What most tech optimists also forget to mention is that Africa already has a history of drone use: The devices were used by colonial powers to bomb rebellions in the late 20th century. More recently, they’ve been used by the United Nations in Congo, and a couple of them fell near Goma, hurting civilians and burning down fields of crops. It’s hard, too, to make sure the power of drones is not abused when the laws and regulations are being created on the fly — some of the countries that could benefit from this technology have governments that are arguably undemocratic. Yet fear is a bad advisor, says Rwanda’s minister of youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana. He recently signed a new agreement with the San Francisco-based company Zipline, whose aerial vehicles — aka vampire drones — will be able to deliver blood to more than 22 transfusion facilities throughout the country. The life-saving potential of this technology has been tested by Doctors Without Borders, which used drones to fight tuberculosis in Papua New Guinea. And if the Rwandan experiment works, it won’t be long before other countries in the region decide to follow suit. For Rutayisire, the prospect of aerially connecting hospitals, tech hubs and markets across the continent is simply too exciting not to try. “With so much potential,” he says, “it’s hard to not be optimistic.” http://www.ozy.com/fast-forward/this-tiny-african-country-is-leading-the-worlds-drone-race/68048 |

By Daniel Adugbo The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) continues to withhold billions of dollars in oil sale revenues from the treasury under President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, a new report said. The report released yesterday by the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) said in the second half of 2015, NNPC's sales of export crude, domestic crude and oil from its subsidiary the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) totaled $6.3 billion. Of this amount, only $2.1 billion entered the Federation Account while $4.2 billion (N827.4 billion) was not remitted, representing 66 percent of proceeds from crude oil sales for the six months, according to the NRGI report titled "NNPC Still Holds Blank Check". "This was 14 percent more than the corporation's withholdings under Goodluck Jonathan in the first half of 2015, and 12 percent higher than the share withheld in 2013 and 2014," the report, authored by Aaron Sayne and Alexandra Gillies, said. The latest report, which is a follow up to a previous one by NRGI in 2015, themed "Inside NNPC Oil Sales: A Case for Reform," however said some of NNPC's withholdings cover known costs, notably its share of joint venture operating expenses. "The corporation has not fully explained others; especially revenues retained from domestic crude and NPDC sales," it said. The report said that NNPC spending raises questions about fiscal responsibility-especially at a time when public finances are stretched and the federal government is looking to fund more of its budget with debt. Makeshift practices remain While acknowledging some of the ongoing reforms instituted by the Buhari administration in the oil sector, the report said the plans have not yet addressed how NNPC retains revenues. On how NNPC sells the country's oil in two streams-export sales to foreign buyers and domestic crude allocation, the report said, "This simple two-part system has broken down, however. As NNPC's financial debts and operational problems have deepened, it has introduced more types of ad hoc oil sale transactions to work around these challenges." The NRGI report, which tried to unravel where the $4.2 billion of NNPC oil sales that didn't enter the federation account went to, found that some of the money went to pay JV cash call liabilities, rather than entering the government budget while some others were spent in an unknown manner. "In one especially questionable case, we found evidence that NNPC has retained all earnings from the offshore Oil Mining Lease (OML) 119, a field owned wholly by NPDC that produces around 30,000 barrels per day of Okono grade crude," the report said. The report recommended that the Buhari government should establish a clear, legally enforceable rule governing which revenues NNPC can keep and how they can be spent. It also advised the government to move to curb the corporation's discretionary, unaccountable use of much-needed public funds. When contacted for comments, the NNPC said it was preparing a response to the NRGI report. But the response did not come at the time of going to press. Daily Trust reports that the Auditor-General of Federation recently reported that the NNPC failed to remit N3.2tr ($16bn) in oil revenues to the federation account in 2014. A week later, the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) put the amount not remitted by the NNPC between 2011 and 2015 at N4.9tr ($25 bn). NNPC disputed the auditor-general's claims by putting out a third set of figures, saying what it owed the Federation Account was N326bn which is still being reconciled. NNPC has also promised that a forensic audit, due soon, would validate its position. http://allafrica.com/stories/201604010339.html |

A 28-year-old professional football player from Nigeria has been arrested on drug trafficking charges with 105 grams of fine quality cocaine, police said today. Izu Chukwu Ojobo, who had played in the Goa League Championship in 2015, used to get cocaine from his Nigerian contacts in Goa and frequently visited Delhi to deliver drugs consignments to his clients, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said. “Ojobo is a professional footballer and, in 2015, he played in Goa League Championship with the United Manipur team and also participated in Adidas Cup in Delhi,” said Yadav. Ojobo initially went to south Africa to earn a law degreebut dropped out in two years and came to India with a students visa in 2014. He started living in Goa and took up football. There he came in contact with other drug traffickers from Nigeria, he said. Based on a tip-off, he was arrested on Wednesday and booked under relevant sections of NDPS Act, he added. http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/flash-nigerian-professional-footballer-arrested-with-105-grams-cocaine/ |

REUTERS/AFOLABI SOTUNDE/ILLUSTRATION By Lesley Wroughton WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States said on Monday it would press Nigeria in talks this week to adopt a more flexible foreign exchange rate to boost growth and investment in Africa's largest economy. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, told an audience at the U.S. Institute of Peace that Nigeria should ensure that the value of the naira currency versus the U.S. dollar was "more realistic." "While most people complain about the possibility of there being a devaluation, people are already operating on a devalued currency, and the only people who are not, are people who are doing it officially," Thomas-Greenfield said. "Our recommendation is, and we will have discussions about it ... that they should look at the exchange rate and try to make the exchange rate more realistic to what the value of the naira is to the dollar," she added. She spoke before talks in Washington to be launched by Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday and which will focus on Nigeria's economy, security and development. Nigeria faces its worst economic crisis in decades as the falling price of oil has slashed revenues, prompting the central bank to peg the currency and introduce curbs to protect foreign exchange reserves, which have fallen to an 11-year low. Some members of Nigeria's central bank monetary policy committee have said the naira should be devalued. Thomas-Greenfield said the parallel currency market in Nigeria was "alive and well," warning that a rigid exchange rate, capital controls and import bans could undermine President Muhammadu Buhari's efforts to expand economic growth and fight corruption. Buhari has rejected the idea of devaluing the naira. "Capital controls that limit access to foreign exchange rewards insiders and undermines the stated goals of Nigeria to increase domestic production because both Nigerian and expat investors alike tell us many businesses are unable to obtain the capital to purchase badly needed intermediate goods," she said. The naira trades some 40 percent below the official rate on the black market versus the dollar. The central bank last year pegged the exchange rate to curb speculative demand for the dollar and conserve foreign exchange reserves after it restricted access to hard currency for imports of certain items, frustrating businesses. The International Monetary Fund called on Nigeria to lift the curbs and let the naira reflect market forces more closely, as the restrictions have significantly affected the private sector. On March 27, 20165:55 pm The Coalition for Women Advancement in Africa (COWAA) has described the new video by Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau where he announced what could best be described as a surrender as a major breakthrough by the military in the war against the Boko Haram insurgency. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Executive Vice President of the group, Mrs Jummai Pukat said the group has recruited the services of forensic experts and can confirm the authenticity of the video by Shekau. A screengrab taken on October 2, 2014 from a video released by the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram and obtained by AFP shows the leader of the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on October 2 A screengrab taken on October 2, 2014 from a video released by the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram and obtained by AFP shows the leader of the Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau. Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on October 2 She however called on the Nigeria army to sustain its onslaught against the few remaining terrorists who may want to continue with their nefarious crimes. She said, “We have authoritatively confirmed the video after subjecting it to scientific scrutiny and wish to say it is authentic and represents the reaction of the group to the ongoing merciless onslaught being carried out by the Nigerian Army. As mothers of the nation, we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to see to an amnesty for those who are ready to lay down their arms and encourage the Nigerian Army to flush out every criminal elements or factional group that fails to utilize the opportunity of the declaration of surrender by Abubakar Shekau who has been known over the years as the leader of the group. “In the same spirit of a new Nigeria devoid of the killings, kidnappings and terrorism that Nigerians were elated to view the video of their longest nightmare in the person of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau almost grovelling as he declared that ‘I am finished’. “Even without uttering those welcome words about being finished, which we believe equally applies to the terror group with which he brought this country down to its knees, the body language of the Shekau we saw in the video was that of a man who together with his minion are receiving the drubbing of their lives from the Nigerian Army ably supported by the Air Force. “The video and proclamation by Shekau should be seen as a major breakthrough in the nation’s war against terrorism. In that video, we see and heard a Shekau who finally had the sense to admit that the end is nigh; we see a Shekau who has become gaunt ostensibly because the Army has successfully disrupted the supply routes for his terror group’s vital supplies; we see a Shekau who for the first time lost the ability to harangue the Nigerian state as he was not able to hop from one feet to the other, we see a Shekau whom the Nigerian Army has deprived of the succour and support of his devilish Amirs (commanders), who fell to the superior will of our gallant troops in quick succession; we see a Shekau that has been abandoned by the abominable Daesh (Islamic State) to which he pledged allegiance; we see a Shekau who is facing internal rebellion within the band of bloodthirsty imps that he has gathered, we see a Shekau at the end of his tethers and with the full knowledge that he deserves whatever he has coming for him; we see a Shekau that is in need of a finishing off; and we see a Shekau who must not get the mercy that he never showed his thousands victims.” The group commended the Army for sustaining the onslaught on the terrorists in a manner that the degraded Boko Haram to the point where Shekau was flushed out to give proof of life to his own so called followers. “However, our wish is to reiterate our resolve for lasting peace. We cannot get lasting peace by allowing Shekau and his remaining Amirs the luxury of being able to re-group and restore their ability to take on the Nigerian Army. The decision makers in the Army should let the federal government know what is needed to help these abominations called terrorists keep their appointments with their makers,” she said Pukat said the Army must not relent, but should get more ammunitions and artillery to further decimate the ranks of terrorists. She said While Shekau as the head of Boko Haram deserves whatever he gets, amnesty should be handed over to all those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the terror group’s criminality as a way of further decimating whatever structure the criminal thought would survive him. “We reiterate our position that Amnesty should be granted to those who were forcefully indoctrinated into the movement while those who wish to remain on are treated as mere criminals by the Nigerian Army.” She said the immediate rescue of the 16 women abducted by Boko Haram should be commended by all Nigerians, stressing that the timely rescue should be a reminder that anyone abducted shall be found and set free. PROPHET PREDICTS SECOND CIVIL WAR IN NIGERIA Prophet predicts second civil war in Nigeria Posted By: CHRIS NJOKUon: March 26, 2016In: NewsNo Comments Print Email 0 0 0 0 A prophet of the Royal House of David, Godfrey Gbujie, has predicted that Nigeria would witness another civil war if the nation’s leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, did not act swiftly to resolve the national questions He said that part of the national question is, are Nigerians willing and ready to continue to co-exist in an entity called Nigeria, adding that much depends on the President to act now in resolving this issue without further delay. This is even as the man of God said a serious air disaster would soon be recorded within the airspace of Imo State. Gbujie, who gave the revelations in a press briefing held at his Akabo, Ahiara Mbaise, Imo State country home, yesterday, said that blood sucking demons were roaring across the six zones of the nation, noting that an honest approach in handling the affairs of the nation was needed from Buhari and other leaders of the nation to avert the imminent war. He said: “God’s anger on the leaders of Northern Nigeria was enormous in that another terrible rebellious group in addition to Boko Haram will spring up from the North very soon,” he said. According to Gbujie, “this second rebellious group will be led by two seasoned Nigeria army trained generals, and soon after, a more terrible and fiercer opposition group led by a younger trained Nigeria military commander will emerge from the South. “This southern force will eventually cause the final disintegration and collapse of the Nigerian nation,” he said. He said that two signs would herald his prediction. The first, according to him, would be a serious air disaster to be recorded within the Imo airspace soon. “The nose of the aircraft shall point towards the west and the burning tail, pointing to the east’’, he said. “Another sign is that two very prominent Nigerians working and walking in partnership along a north/south highway shall make history. “As they walk along, suddenly, the senior partner will get struck to death due to circumstance not very clear, and this will result to a serious commotion and public revolt in Nigeria,” he said. He said that Nigeria under the present administration of President Muhammad Buhari was passing through a gathering storm of God’s anger and pitiable dangers. Gbujie said that what informed his public revelation on the spiritual messages was the need for Nigerians and the world to take note and possibly apply the solutions to avert the dangers ahead. “Due to certain overwhelming development in the spiritual realm over the Federal Republic of Nigeria, within the last few months, in my Christian divine ministry as God’s commissioned and covenanted prophetic watchman over the nation. ”I could not help, but step out on faith to boldly and courageously open up and deliver to you certain message of the development for onward dissemination to the public and government and people of Nigeria’’, he said. Gbujie, while presenting the solutions to the predictions, urged Buhari to urgently resolve the national question. According to him, “for Buhari to resolve the national question, he should convoke a conference for various parts of Nigeria to state if they still want to remain one country or not.’’ On the anti-graft campaign, the man of God stated that the way and manner the anti-graft was going on was one of the major issues threatening Nigeria’s unity, especially amongst the nation’s armed forces. http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/prophet-predicts-second-civil-war-in-nigeria/ |

freeze001:Maybe some of us do not know or we are feigning ignorance but these fulani killers are maiming, raping and killing our brothers and sisters in the SE and they have virtually taken over their farmlands.Something must be done to stop this madness. I saw this on Nairaland and I think it is high time the entire SOUTH comes together and act swiftly- Tales of woes There have been reports of clashes between the herdsmen and farmers across the region. For instance, in Abia communities of Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government Area, Ebem and Akanu in Ohafia and Umuchieze in Umunneochi, there have been cases of deadly clashes between rural farmers and these cattle breeders. In Uzuakoli, a man popularly known in the area as Ajambele sometime in the past received a deadly attack when he met cattle destroying his farm in the Over Rail area of the community and confronted the Fulani cattle herdsmen who had invaded the farmland with the cattle. The herdsmen were said to have used sharp dagger to rip open Ajambele’s stomach, forcing the intestines to gush out. He was said to have been rushed to a hospital and was lucky to have survived. Cases of invasion of farmlands in Ebem and Akanu communities nearly resulted in bloodbath but the wisdom of the leaders in the community who timely reported to the authorities saved bloody clashes. Some of the cases were so serious that Abia State Government had to intervene, preventing the youths of the communities from retaliating. It set up a peace committee that quelled the then imminent doom. The story is not different in Enugu State. Saturday Vanguard investigation revealed that attacks unleashed by Fulani herdsmen are a recurring decimal in the state. Of the 482 communities in Enugu State, one cannot boost of one community that has not had its fair share of Fulani herdsmen’s barbaric activities which leave in their wake, perennial tears of sorrow. Indigenes of Ezeagu tell stories of not only destruction of their farms but also rape of their women in their farms. Over 70 percent of the people in the state who are domiciled in rural areas, engage in subsistent or commercial agricultural activities as their mainstay. But the recent increasing threat posed by Fulani herdsmen is rocking the fabric of their fundamental existence. Incidents of killing, robbery, rape, maiming and kidnapping by the cattle herdsmen have inflicted pains on most farmers, even as farm produce have been drastically affected. Farmers, leaving in fear, have scampered to safety in desperate bids to avoid being hacked down by the rampaging herdsmen. Last March, suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly killed Tamgbo Ogueji, a member of the traditional rulers’ cabinet at Eke Community in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. The deceased, aged 85, was shot in his house in the early hours over an undisclosed issue with the herdsmen. President-General, Eke Town Union, Mr. Anthony Enu, told Saturday Vanguard that the community was irked and the youths restive. He said: “Last year, the same Fulani herdsmen killed two of our brothers, Matthew Aniugo and Chiagha Chigbo, in their farms. The town is boiling with anger now. We have reported the matter to the Police. We are calling on all relevant authorities to prevail on these Fulani herdsmen to ensure justice for our people.” The sleepy town of Nkpologu Community in Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State was, last January, thrown into mourning following news of the death of a young woman on New Year eve, during a Fulani herdsmen’s robbery attack on a commuter bus. *Umar...on the hospital bed after the attack by Fulani herdsmen The deceased, Veronica Ezugwu, 20, from Agum Village, Nkpologu Community was pronounced dead at Annunciation Hospital, Emene, Enugu. She had sustained several gunshot injuries during the robbery attack on the commuter bus conveying the victim and three other passengers home for Christmas on December 24, 2014. The incident occurred at Camp Bus Stop, Nkpologu Community at 12.54pm. According to an eyewitness, three Fulani herdsmen, armed with short pump action double-barrelled guns, sprang from the bush and started shooting at the bus. The bus driver escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds, while the two other passengers sustained minor injuries. According to the eyewitness, “Veronica was hit on the head and eyes and her brain tissues severed.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/menace-of-fulani-herdsmen-tales-of-woes-from-the-east/ |
oboy3:Sentiments apart,I think the yorubas have fared better than any tribe in Nigeria against the marauding fulani herdsmen killers which prompted buhari and his fulani kinsmen to go to the SW to seek for the stoppage of the killings and justice-WOW-I could not believe my eyes when I read this on Nairaland and followed the link to read it in the vanguard and some other paper.I doff my hat for the justice done to the fulanis by killing 68 of them and I think this had curtailed their gra gra in the SW than any other region. It is high time we give them the same treatment. This is the story* It was on 13 October 2000, when words went round that General Muhammadu Buhari was leading the Arewa team to the governor’s office to confront the state over alleged killings of Fulani cattle rearers in Saki, Oke Ogun Area of the state. He fired back with his own well coordinated arsenals. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/day-lam-adesina-clashed-with-buhari-marwa-others/ |
naijaking1:Those Awgu youths are cowards. Why did they arrest the 10 Fulani herdsmen. Are they policemen?MTCHEWWW.They should have killed them like the yorubas killed 68 of them and nothing happened.Make it a tit for tat situation. They killed one of you and took two women who by the way are gone forever. They will rape them as many times as possible and then do away with them.Awgu youths grow some balls and deal with them decisively because they will come back.Yes,that is their logo, they always come back. |
PDP wins eight state constituencies, one House seat, APC victorious in one constituency • Wike, Peterside’s security aides in shootout, one killed • Amaechi, governor clash over ‘abducted’ collation officer • Army explains arrest of SSG, police say four dead, 24 apprehended By Ernest Chinwo, Segun James and Shola Oyeyipo in Port Harcourt The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the results of nine state constituencies and one federal constituency in which rerun elections were held in Nigeria’s oil hub, Rivers State, on Saturday, but the commission was forced to suspend the electoral process in all other constituencies in the state where results were not announced due to the widespread violence that marred the elections. However, based on the results released yesterday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) consolidated its control of the state by emerging victorious in eight of the nine state constituencies and one federal constituency seat, while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won one state constituency seat. But as results were announced, the state continued its descent to anarchy as the violent battle for control of the state was exacerbated by the exchange of gunfire between security men in the convoys of the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, and the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State governor, Mr. Emma Woke, in Port Harcourt yesterday, resulting in the death of Woke’s personal assistant. Sporadic shooting was also reported at the Abonema area in Akuku Toru Council, few kilometers to Port Harcourt, the state capital. This came as Governor Nyesom Wike and the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, squared off against each other at the Mile 1 Diobu police station over a collation officer, Mrs. Ekwi Adebisa, who was purportedly abducted Saturday night by the former governor in company of soldiers. Confirming the outcome of the rerun polls, the Director of Voter Education Publicity of INEC, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, informed THISDAY that the results were released in nine state constituencies and one federal constituency in the state. He said PDP won in eight of the state constituencies, while APC won one seat. PDP, he said, also won one federal constituency but did not give the names of the state or federal constituencies in which results were declared. Osaze-Uzzi also revealed that the release of further results were suspended due to reports of violence, attacks and even the deaths of INEC officials and ad hoc personnel in the state. He said all INEC personnel were relocated to Abuja yesterday due to the escalation of violence in Rivers State. Also in a statement yesterday, he said INEC conducted the polls in Rivers State pursuant to the orders of the Court of Appeal, but “rather unfortunately, some of these elections witnessed the disruption of the process, including the barricading of some of the INEC local government offices and Registration Area Centres (RACs) used for the distribution of electoral materials which led to the late commencement of the exercise in some places and consequently, its smooth take off. “Of more serious concern was the level of threats, violence and intimidation of election officials and voters by well armed thugs and miscreants allegedly acting on behalf of some politicians, which marred the elections in some areas. “There were reports of numerous attacks resulting in fatalities, kidnappings, ballot snatching, diversion of officials and materials, amongst others, which necessitated its suspension in 8 local government areas. “Regrettably, such deviant behaviour has continued today (yesterday). Several permanent and ad hoc staff engaged by the commission have been attacked, again resulting in fatalities, while some have been forcibly abducted and taken to unknown destinations. “Under such difficult circumstances, the Returning Officers were only able to collate and declare results in one federal and nine state constituencies where the disruption and malpractices were not so widespread. “Having reviewed the situation, the commission is compelled to suspend all further action concerning the exercise in all the other constituencies in the state pending the receipt of a comprehensive report from its field officials and monitors. “For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that the suspension does not affect the constituencies where the exercise has been completed and the results declared by the Returning Officers,” he said. However, unconfirmed results obtained by THISDAY from the various collation centres for 11 state constituencies showed that PDP won 10 constituencies, namely: Akukutoru I (Major Jack), Omuma (Kelechi Wogu), Degema (Farah Dagogo), Ahoada East II (Edison Ehie), Ahoada East I (Martins Manna), Emohua (Sam Ogeh), Akukutoru II (Tonye Alalibo), Obio/Akpor I (Martin Amaewhule), Obio/Akpor II (Michael Chindah), Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni (Christopher Ahiakwor). The candidate of the APC won in the Opobo/Nkoro state constituency, while Betty Apiafi of the PDP won the Abua Odua/Ahoada East Constituency to the Federal House of Representatives. Speaking on the shootout between the security detail attached to Woke and Peterside, which occurred yesterday evening at the UTC junction, Azikiwe Road, Port Harcourt, Wike told journalists that Peterside, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in the state, had gone to INEC Registration Area Centre (RAC) in Isiokpo, headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area and allegedly snatched the election result sheets for the council. According to Wike, Peterside, who was with his running mate, Honourable Asita and the APC state chairman, Dr. Davies Ikanya, were then pursued by Woke, who was the PDP agent for Ikwerre. “The shooting happened because they were chasing them (Peterside and Asita) from Isiokpo,” Wike said. He said when the security detail of Peterside saw that the PDP agent was still following them as they got to the junction leading to his (Peterside’s residence, they opened fire leading to the death of Woke’s aide. But in his own account of the incident, Peterside said it was an attack on his life, adding that he was attacked by gunmen in two sports utility vehicles when he was on his way home from the Port Harcourt International Airport. According to a statement he issued last night, “Two SUVs belonging to Emeka Woke, Nyesom Wike’s Chief of Staff, carrying two unknown gunmen trailed us to UTC Junction and opened fire on my car. “Our car however did a detour to the DSS office gate where we drove to seek refuge, but the unknown gunmen opened fire again at the SSS men on guard. “The exchange of fire between the DSS men and the assailants lasted for more than 30 minutes. This is a very ugly experience but I thank God that my colleagues and I escaped unhurt. “Today’s experience is not only terrifying but also shows the parlous state of security in Rivers State. If I can be engaged openly by gunmen for nearly an hour in the heart of Port Harcourt, only God knows the fate that will befall members of our party and those sympathetic to our predicament. “What is happening today in our dear state is not only horrible but also constitutes a serious national security risk.” Before the shootout, however, Wike and Amaechi, squared off against each other at the Mile 1, Diobu police station in the state capital over a collation officer, Mrs. Adebisa, who was allegedly abducted by the minister, Saturday night. The development, which led to the suspension of collation of results in the constituency, led to a standoff between the leaders of the PDP and APC yesterday. Adebisa was allegedly taken to Novotel Hotel where the duo of Amaechi and Peterside and the acting Managing Director of NDDC, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, were lodged and results doctored. The electoral officer was said to have been placed in protective custody by Amaechi and Dakuku. However, when PDP leaders including Wike got wind of the fact that she had been placed in protective custody at the Mile 1 police station, they rushed to the station seeking an explanation. Wike later alleged that Adebisa is the girlfriend of the APC candidate for the Port Harcourt Federal Constituency who framed her abduction alongside other APC leaders. He went further to claim that she had compromised the results placed in her care in favour of the APC. When Wike and some other PDP leaders stormed the station, more than 400 soldiers arrived the station with Amaechi, Peterside and Semenitari and directed that Adebisa be released to them. The former governor, Peterside, Semenitari and the AIG Zone 6, Calabar, Mr. Baba Adisa Bolanta, were said to have eventually left with her. But reacting to the report, the Special Adviser (Media) to the acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, Bekee Anyalewechi said there was no iota of truth in the story that was peddled by the PDP-led Rivers State Government. “We have received, with bemusement, the attempt by the Rivers State Government and its image managers to retell the facts of the incident of Sunday, March 20 which occurred at the Mile 1 Police Divisional headquarters in Port Harcourt when Rivers State governor, Ezebunwo Wike, in the company of a retinue of aides, invaded the police station and held the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation officer for Port Harcourt Ward 10, Mrs. Ekwi Adebisa, hostage. “Whereas it is not in our style to join issues with any tier of government, it is imperative that we state the facts because of the need to safeguard our electoral process and strengthen the confidence of our people in their leaders. “Mrs. Ekwi Adebisa, the Port Harcourt City Ward 10 Collation Officer, for the March 19 rerun legislative election in Rivers State, was moved by force to the police station. The result she had collated was separated from her. “While at the police station, agents of the Rivers State Government, brought her under duress to write a statement that she had been abducted and made to falsify the ward result by agents of All Progressives Congress (APC). “That they forced her to the police station and kept her under traumatic conditions was in itself criminal. But that they had forced the result she had lawfully collated out of her custody was more criminal,” Anyalewech said. According to him, “Governor Wike had arrived the police station accompanied by Sen. George Sekibo, Mr. Austin Opara, Azubuike Nmerukini, as well as other aides of the governor. “As a leader in APC, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), being in attendance at the meeting, was among those delegated to go and see what the actual development was. “When Semenitari and others arrived the police facility, they confirmed the report. In conclusion, we state therefore, that it was shocking to read a statement issued by Mr. Simeon Nwakudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, linking Semenitari to facts contrary to the truth as stated here.” Reacting to the performance of his political party, the PDP, Wike said the rerun elections in the state had shown clearly who is on the ground and is accepted by the people. He said the rerun elections had proved that the control of INEC, the federal might, military, police and other security agencies cannot translate to electoral victories, as the people will always resist agents of rigging. Wike blamed the military for the deaths recorded in Saturday’s election, alleging that the victims were killed by the military and not by politicians or residents of the state. He also said most soldiers deployed for the elections were used by the APC leaders to hijack materials, illegally arrest PDP members and manipulate the process. He said the people resisted the attempt by the military to subvert the electoral process. He said the number of troops unleashed to intimidate and harass Rivers people was regrettable, even as they failed to tackle security challenges in the country. In a related development, the Nigerian Army explained yesterday that it arrested the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Chief Kenneth Kobani, for allegedly disrupting the last Saturday’s rerun elections in the state. This is as the Nigerian Police, Zone 6 Command, said a total of 24 persons were arrested from different parts of the state for various allegations of criminal and electoral offenses during the rerun elections. The Commander, 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brigadier General Stephenson Olabanji, who spoke to newsmen at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt yesterday, said: “Many people were arrested yesterday (Saturday) for disrupting the electoral process and the law is not meant for just the lower cadre alone. No matter who you are, if you go against the law, you will definitely face the music. “So there is nothing like being the Secretary to the State Government, many people were arrested as you have been told. A lot of people were arrested.” The army commander denied claims by the state government that some of its commissioners and other top officials were manhandled by men of the Nigerian Army during the rerun elections. He said: “If you say arrest, we can say yes, but there was nothing like manhandling. We are meant to protect civilians, not to manhandle them.” In his remarks, the AIG in-charge of Zone 6 said those arrested during the rerun elections were currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Port Harcourt. “It is pertinent I let you know that we have 24 suspects comprising 22 males and 2 females in police custody, who were arrested from different parts of the state. They are presently undergoing interrogation on allegations of criminal or electoral offences or both,” Bolanta said. Bolanta insisted that four deaths were recorded in the state during the polls, pointing out that two persons were killed at Buguma in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, while two others were killed at Nonwa-Tai, and Omuanwa communities in Tai and Ikwerre Local Government Areas, respectively. He said: “I am startled this morning after seeing outrageous figure of deaths associated with the elections as dished out by the media. To put the records straight, four deaths were recorded with two in Buguma, while Nonwa-Tai and Omuanwa each... http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/03/21/inec-releases-10-results-suspends-rivers-elections/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has identified the unique contribution of the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics base (LADOL) as one of the strategic investments in the country that currently drives the nation’s economy. Buhari made the statement when he opened proceedings at the sixth African Petroleum Congress and Exhibition (CAPE VI) in Abuja organised by the African Petroleum Producers Association (APPA). The President, who was represented at the event by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), identified LADOL, which has invested over $600million in private investment, as one of the companies that currently adding the most value to the Nigerian economy through their ingenious investments. This is coming as the Managing Director of LADOL, Dr. Amy Jadesimi, outlines plans to further attract $5billion investments into the country through the LADOL Industrial Free Zone located in Lagos within the next few years. Dr. Jadesimi gave the indication, Thursday, while delivering a presentation at the event under the topic: Driving Economic Growth Through Local Private Sector Investments in Nigeria. She noted that given the spate of growth at the zone, “the success of LADOL has attracted new investors to Nigeria who partner with credible Nigerian investors leading to the creation of dozens of similar facilities”. She noted that in 2010 alone, 130 oil rigs were towed from West Africa past the tip of Africa across the Indian Ocean to the Far East for repair adding that “with LADOL and similar facilities now on ground, more of such ventures would be done in Nigeria.“ While lauding the efforts of the indigenous organization in building economic growth, the President similarly gave accolades to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), which is currently building one of the world’s largest oil platforms at the LADOL base in Tarkwa Bay, Lagos. The LADOL/SHI project commonly referred to as Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) platform valued at $3.8billion, is said to be first of its kind to be built in the sub-Saharan Africa. According to the President who urged other investors to emulate the LADOL example, African countries should develop ingenious ways of promoting value addition and investments through sustainable policies in local content. Reports indicates that through the LADOL/SHI FPSO project, the industry has been boosted with 5,000 direct jobs and 0ver 50,000 indirect employments by leveraging on the Local Content Act 2010. Appraising the local content achievements of the organization, the President noted that, “A common approach to local content will ensure that the whole of Africa benefits from economies of scale associated with our vast resources.” President Buhari noted further that ongoing mega projects like the LADOL/SHI Oil Platform; the General Electric service centre for manufacturing rotating equipment in Calabar; and the Dangote Refinery in Lagos are some of the most strategic investment to an emancipated African economy. The President who described LADOL industrial free zone in Lagos – a wholly indigenous, privately developed and hosting the largest shipyard in West Africa allied with the Samsung FPSO integration yard at the base, said the joint venture will aid Nigeria’s quest for her pride of place as a leading world economy. The President stressed that the continent must recognize that the development of domestic refining capacity in the oil and gas sector would remain critical to sustainable economic growth. He also noted that Nigeria, which recently announced a new timeline to end gas flaring at her oil fields, was on course to see this out. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/03/buhari-names-ladol-one-strategic-investors-nigeria/ |
