It’s been about a year since Kemi Adetiba‘s Netflix release of “King of Boys: The Return of the King.” According to a recent Instagram post, the film director will begin production on a new movie called “To Kill A Monkey” pretty soon.

“Bending to the threatening messages I’ve been receiving, I’m super excited to announce our next project and film from the KAV stables, “TO KILL A MONKEY”, said Adetiba. “Once again, I’m branching out and exploring something really different and pushing my creative limits, but I thoroughly believe in my spirit that this is my next challenge to conquer. I’m never been one to take the easy or clear route so this leap is as much exciting as it is scary.”

Kunle Afolayan’s award-winning 2020 film “Citation“, has yet again snagged another win, this time in the ‘Best International Film’ category at the just-concluded National Film Awards in the United Kingdom.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, he announced the win, writing, “I am glad we got recognized without even lobbying.”

He shared his excitement as the film’s lead characters, Jimmy Jean Louis and Temi Otedola, received the award. The 27-category awards saw other awardees including Jude Law, who won Best Actor for his “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” and Lily Collins in the Best Actress in a TV Series category for “Emily in Paris.”

The movie which is broadly based on true events tells the story of a student who speaks out against her lecturer after she was sexually assaulted by him.

Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa has emerged as the deputy governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.

She emerged as the PDP deputy governorship candidate to Alhaji Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran popularly known as Jandor on Wednesday.

She shrugged off stiff competition from the other four contestants, who were also shortlisted for the deputy governorship candidate position.

Following a tough screening exercise, Funke was chosen as the PDP deputy governorship candidate in Lagos, beating former governorship aspirant, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

Multichoice Nigeria, via its official social media pages on Tuesday, July 5, revealed that the 7th edition of the show will premiere with two opening ceremonies on the 23rd and 24th of July.

The 7th season of the reality show is scheduled to run for 72 days.

Nollywood stars Funke Akindele, Daniel K Daniel and Blessing Egbe have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The trio are part of the 397 new members for 2022. While Funke and Daniel were invited to join the Actors branch of The Academy, Blessing was invited to the Directors branch.

“Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity,” The Academy said, adding that “this year’s class of invitees includes 71 Oscar nominees, including 15 winners.”

Demola Yusuf, the executive producer of the award winning Yoruba movie "Alaise" is set to return home to Ilorin for an homecoming event. It would be recalled that he and his co producers David Akande and late Edgard Leroy pulled a stunner at the recently concluded AMVCA awards when they emerged winners in the best indigenous language movie Yoruba which was a tight category. 


The Kwara born actor said it was important to have such event happen in Ilorin to inspire other young people in the film industry in the state. He noted that Alaise the movie was born out of pure passion for the art of film making. He is willing to work with people in different entertainment areas in the state to make it more film maker friendly as he recently collaborated with Access Studios, KennyEast Studios, Shud Apparel, MOhab Apparel and Bolaji Sparks for a promotional shoot for the watch party to be held in Ilorin.

Interview: We have seen your works all over and that's what prompted this interview, we are really proud of you and want to associate with you. How did you get into fashion design?
Seun Ibitoye: My story of how I got into fashion design is the same as many other fashion designer. I like to think of myself as a Tailor, Fashion Designer and Fashion Entrepreneur. My mother was a tailor so I grew up learning her and in 2016 when I decided  to go professional,  I had to take advanced  fashion design classes, started sewing and designing  for friends and family.


Interviewer: You design and sell clothes to some Celebrities, how did you meet them?
 Seun Ibitoye: They were referred  to me and some of them saw my social media posts and tags on Instagram.


Interviewer: We are aware you have a good customer base in the UK, Canada, US Ghana and China how did you meet this clients and how often do you sew for them?
Seun Ibitoye: My brand name did the magic and we got the referrals, more so, it's been a matter of hardwork, patience research and rigorous trainings.


Interviewer: Do you import the material and make them here or you get them all here in Nigeria?

Nigerian sensational rapper and songwriter, Folarin Falana popularly know as Falz speaks on his new album “Bahd” and political activism in this interview with Beat FM.

Damilola Orimogunje is a Nigerian screenwriter and film director. He has a B.Sc. in Mass Communication from Caleb University, Lagos, Nigeria. After his degree, he has worked with various production outlets like Lagos Television, Royal Roots, MNET Africa and Film One as a writer or content producer. In 2014, he won the United Nations sponsored Homevida Short Script competition.

As a film director, his short films have been selected and screened in over 50 film festivals including Film Africa, Luxor African Film Festival, Fespaco, Pan African Film Festival, winning several awards. His films have majorly been surrounded around themes as Love, Betrayal, Depression, and Death. He is inspired by the works of Wong Kar-Wai and Ingmar Bergman. His last short film is titled Losing My Religion adapted from the short- story Losing My Religion from the book Bury Me Come Sunday Afternoon by Nigerian-American writer, Nike Campbell-Fatoki.

His debut feature film, For Maria Ebun Pataki premiered in London at Film Africa in November 2020, winning The Audience Award For Best Narrative Feature. The film went on to bag six nominations at the prestigious AMAA awards, including Best Writing and Directing categories.

Damilola has been featured in reputable film blogs such as Sight & Sound, The Guardian, BBC, The British Blacklist, and many more. He sees himself as part of a new generation of Nigerian filmmakers making visually compelling and unconventional African content for social change.

Kwara Film Festival had the opportunity of interviewing this intelligent and award winning Script Writer and Director Damilola Orimogunje.

Kwara Film Festival: In 2017, you released a short film MO which won a lot of awards then. What inspired that story?

Damilola Orimogunje: First, I am drawn to social issues as a filmmaker. I had read a story related about human trafficking in the newspaper and a friend sent me a draft of Mo’s screenplay. I decided to jump on it.

Kwara Film Festival: Nice. Prior to the draft from your friend, did you have it in mind that you would shoot something on human trafficking?

Damilola Orimogunje: Nope. Though the story I saw in the news inspired me in a way. The draft motivated me.

Kwara Film Festival: In shooting films, what are the normal factors you consider or does it have to be the story that brings the factors?

Damilola Orimogunje: Authenticity of the story, setting. The idea just needs to resonate to me as human first before as an artist.

Kwara Film Festival: So no common factor that can be found in every film?

Damilola Orimogunje: My films share similar themes mostly unintentionally. Dark themes like betrayal & death. Common factor would be social related issues.

Kwara Film Festival: So let’s talk about your new Film “For Maria Ebun Pataki” which has stirred up a lot of conversations, won awards and was on Netflix top 10 earlier this year. How do you feel about the reception from people?

Damilola Orimogunje: It has been great to see, especially coming from the mindset of not expecting mainstream audience here to like it so much. Love that the purpose of exploring postpartum in the film is achieved. It has been discussed and the film itself is encouraging young filmmakers to dare to make films alike.

Kwara Film Festival: Great, talking about young film makers, do you one day see yourself as a Trainer in this area?

Damilola Orimogunje: I believe I train as much as I continue to learn myself. I currently mentor some younger filmmakers but yes the future goal is to have several lectures and perhaps run a film institution someday.

Kwara Film Festival: For Maria is a 75mins long Feature length and it is your first Feature, how long did it take to shoot?

Damilola Orimogunje: Principal photography? It took nine days to shoot.

Kwara Film Festival: 9 days? How were you able to manage the casts you used and what influenced the choice of Actors. For me I thought Meg Otanwa was brilliant and bodied the role well. Why her?

Damilola Orimogunje: Lol, It was a long very detailed preproduction because I knew I could not exceed those shooting dates because of funds. Meg was a friend before the project and we align on creative choices in film so it was easy to pitch the script to her and make come on board. I think I was intricate about actors who would body the role naturally & not seem like they were acting & I’m glad I had the chance to cast & work with such a talented cast.

Kwara Film Festival: We saw the use of Babies in the Movie For Maria Ebun Pataki. How were you able to achieve that?

Damilola Orimogunje: They auditioned & read the script. Such talented baby actors

Kwara Film Festival: Lmao I see.  I guess they read their script well. Lol How many babies did you use?

Damilola Orimogunje: 3

Kwara Film Festival: Where and where can we see this?

Damilola Orimogunje: Second scene with Fola in the hospital has the first baby appearance. Then the next scene with baby at the house is the second baby. The third baby was introduced when Derin got back from hospital after her stitches was removed.

Kwara Film Festival: Tell me a bit about your filmmaking journey, inspiration and how many movies you have worked on so far?

Damilola Orimogunje: Hmm, I started off a screenwriter. I worked on various projects, produced for TV before venturing into directing shorts. I currently write, direct & produce. I also worked on several films but For Maria is my official debut feature.

Kwara Film Festival: Do you have a number?

Damilola Orimogunje: For everything? I can’t think of any right now else I start counting my fingers lol

Kwara Film Festival: What is your next movie and what will it be addressing this time around?

Damilola Orimogunje: Hmm, not sure yet but got a project dear to heart in storage. It’s titled “Dear Ajayi” and it addresses several issues women face in late 90’s and still now.

Kwara Film Festival: How do you generate funds to make films, especially the Netflix project, and as do you feel pressure about the outcome of your movies?

Damilola Orimogunje: I made my first film with my salary from my Tv producing job, then next film from a writing gig. I have always made my personal projects with my own money though I’ve worked on commissioned projects because they saw what I did on my personal projects. I don’t feel pressured. I just do me & leave the rest to the world.

Kwara Film Festival: I wanted to ask this feature film you directed, were you as well the producer too? Also, how can one get contacts of such brilliant casts you used for your movie? Also how does one have his film on Netflix or even in the cinema like film one?

Damilola Orimogunje: Yes I produced. The casts I used in the film are on social media. You can reach out to them I’m sure they will respond if they like what you reach out for. There are aggregators and distributors here in Nigeria (e.g. FilmOne) that aggregate for Netflix or Amazon you can reach out to them with your work and I am sure they will let you know the process or if they want to distribute your film. Albeit, I worked with a foreign distributor.

Kwara Film Festival: When you started scriptwriting? What was your motive and how did you grow yourself sir?

Damilola Orimogunje: I loved writing from childhood. I majored in journalism in my university until I got introduced to film. My motive was for screenwriting was similar to me being a journalist. Writing related issues and harnessing my investigative prowess to tell powerful stories. I learnt by myself, not a product of any film school. I read loads and loads of produced screenplays, books, watched tutorials, watch a lot of films, practice, fail and get better as I learn my style and voice.

Kwara Film Festival: You said you basically shot for 9 days, do you actually planned to shoot for 9days or you planned spending more days rather than that 9days and was it comfortable shooting for that period of days. I asked this question because I get to know that directors like Kunle Afolayan, Kemi Adetiba and some do shoot for as long as 20days and more.

Damilola Orimogunje: I think I had planned to shoot for 15 days or so. But because of budget, we streamlined the shooting schedule to 9. So we planned for 9 days. We had nearly 100 scenes for the entire film so we scheduled about 9 + scenes per day. We knew we couldn’t afford to exceed those dates.

Kwara Film Festival:  What is the total number of scenes in the movie Marie and is it the number of scenes that determines the number of days you going to use to shoot?

Damilola Orimogunje: Now, this doesn’t normally work for everyone. As a producer, I always advise extra days “just in case” also the numbers of scenes doesn’t decide most times because some 2 scenes can be more tedious to shoot than some 7 scenes. Why it’s important to work with strong schedulers or ADs to work on the schedule and make you stick to it.

Kwara Film Festival: One striking point to note in your movie was the grading. What influenced the choice of colours?

Damilola Orimogunje: Firstly, Andrew Dosunmu’s Mother of George was a reference film. We used majorly color blue in the film to denote depression because of the name “Maria” which means “sea of biterness or sorrow”. Didn’t want to go for the conventional sad dull colors & also wanted the film to look beautiful despite being depressing. The film was graded by a guy named Josh Borrill in South Africa.

Kwara Film Festival: Just as we know that filmmaking is a laborious job, so what keeps you motivated?

Damilola Orimogunje: Truthfully, I am not sure lol. I just love making them but I love the impact of films/art. Days like these keep me motivated to want to make more films.

Kwara Film Festival: When and where was “For Maria Ebun Pataki “shot?

Kwara Film Festival: The script is important to make a film; do you think all filmmakers focus on that?

Damilola Orimogunje: I don’t know.

Kwara Film Festival: What are your goals when you make a film?

Damilola Orimogunje: Impact — on audience, film industry & to me as a filmmaker.

Kwara Film Festival: If you do not mind to share with us here the total amount it cost you to produce the movie in question?

Damilola Orimogunje: A low budget of millions of naira.

Flyboywizzy: I am Akinpelu David with the stage name Flyboywizzy. I was born in Edo state Nigeria.

OfficialUniqueBlog: Tell us about your musical background.

Flyboywizzy: I started music in 2013 but my first project was in 2016.

OfficialUniqueBlog: Tell us about your previous project.


Flyboywizzy: My previous project was titled "My People" and it was a song that talked about the current condition of the country. It was also aimed at giving people hope and from the response of people i can tell that the song was a very Good track. The song was produced by one of Abuja famous producer Tino santa.

OfficialUniqueBlog: Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

Flyboywizzy: Victor Ad and Goodgirlla are the artiste that inspire me. Their songs inspire me coupled with their vibes and their lyrics. They are different from other artiste.

OfficialUniqueBlog: Who's your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

Flyboywizzy: Wow they are a lot of musicians on my mind but people am thinking of working with are Fave and Scatter. These two artistes are on my mind their vibes are different and If I can collaborate with any of them i will get automatic improvement in my music career.

OfficialUniqueBlog: What is next for you in your career?

Flyboywizzy: I am working on so many projects but most importantly i am working on dropping my first EP ever and i am making preparation to have Scatter on one of the tracks on the ep. I believe i am the next big thing the world is waiting to see.

OfficialUniqueBlog: What is fulfillment for you as an artiste?

Flyboywizzy: Fulfillment for me is when i start bagging many awards like Grammys, headies and many other top recognition in my career.

Flyboywizzy: I want to encourage so many people that are on their way to giving up on their dreams that they should never give up and they should keep on praying to God. Surely, their dreams will come to pass.

Without further ado, here is the sure method that is helping artists achieve their dreams: creating an effective music plan.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a French journalist said that a goal without a plan is just a wish.

Honestly, your dreams will continue to be covered in thick dust until you start creating a realistic music plan.

It is a pity that many artists like you prefer to build castles with their mouths instead of making out plans on how to achieve their dreams.

As Benjamin Franklin, a political philosopher rightly said: “when you fail to plan, you are inevitably planning to fail.”

In other words, the reality of your dreams lies between your effective planning.

See, creating a music plan gives you a clear vision and a sure path to follow in achieving your dreams.

Also, it sets you apart from the company of mediocre artists and launches you into the circle of successful ones.

I urge you to chase your dreams instead of sleeping on them with mere words such as “I have plans of releasing many songs this year”.

Instead, take your time to plan out how many songs you would like to release and how to promote them to get to the right audience.

To be candid, hoping and praying without planning properly is like playing and joking at the same time without knowing.

In a book titled “How To Be A Genius”, Daniel Adebayo, a vision analyst clearly stated this: “When you live by chance, you will not have a chance in the hall of fame.”

Be intentional with your music career and stop leaving things to chance.

You’re the CEO Of your music career, start acting like one.

Without mincing words, I will say it is the goal of almost every upcoming artist to become a star. 


But sadly, many still remain upcoming artists even after 5 years and above in the music industry. 


What's holding you back from being a prominent artist?


I think that should be a question that demands a genuine and practical answer as this will continue to happen if the issue is not addressed properly. 

Without much ado, the surest way to stop being an upcoming artist and become a superstar is for you to unsubscribe from the Blaming Game. 


Truthfully, your music career won't transform positively until you stop blaming others for your failure. 


Listen up, the more you blame your poor background or government for your current position, the more you deny yourself of sweet opportunities in this industreet.  


You really need to snap out of the world of blaming others for your failure, if you want to become a star. 


See, the world owes you nothing; not even your parents, government, uncles, friends, producers, record label owners, promoters, etc. 


Honestly, the more you say the likes of this, the more you kill your chance of becoming a star:


"I should have blown but the producer doesn't want to help me" or "I should have blown but no one wants to sign me", etc. 


I urge you to take charge of your music career and make things happen instead of waiting for it to happen.


Blaming others will only make you settle for less when you are supposed to be soaring like an eagle. 


And blaming everyone and everything will only drain your energy and rob you of your sweet dreams.


Since I have been reading about successful artists, I am yet to see one who becomes a superstar by blaming others for his failures. 


See, you need to roll up your sleeves; get to work and stop blaming the universe for your tough luck. 


Also, you need to stop blaming your so-called "village people" when you have failed to be useful to yourself.


Put in the necessary work instead of sleeping and expect more from yourself for it is your dream. 


The clear fact is this: once you stop the blaming game, you will start thinking and acting like a star. 


And your chance of becoming a superstar will probably become inevitable.
