PoliticsWe Can’t Be Intimidated, Supreme Court Tells CUPP Over Atiku’s Appeal by Ogagist1(op): 9:15pm On Oct 15, 2019
In an unusual statement yesterday, the Supreme Court joined issues with the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), saying its serial attacks on the apex court over the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate in the last election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, would not deter it from performing its arbitration function without fear or favour.

“The Supreme Court, and by extension, the Judiciary, is an independent arm of government that can never be intimidated or dictated to by anybody,” it said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Festus Akande.

The apex court was expressing its displeasure with what it called the “campaign of calumny” being waged against it by CUPP, through one Imo Ugochinyere, and asked the organisation to apply the brakes forthwith.

The court said being an independent body peopled by diligent minds, it remains focused on its goal of always ensuring justice irrespective of the individuals behind any case.

The statement read: “In the light of the blatant falsehood, misinformation and malicious rumour being generously peddled by the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) through its spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, we wish to state clearly that the association is not and can never constitute itself into an agency of the Nigerian Judiciary or assume the role of an alternate Supreme Court of Nigeria.

We have been watching rather cautiously the drama of the absurd being exhibited on daily basis by this association, which sadly debases our collective morality and sense of decency as people from a civilized and well cultured society like Nigeria.

Sensitive issues like the presidential election appeal should not, in all honesty, be taken to the altar of frivolous drama and misguided oration that is displayed on the screen of our national television with reckless abandon by people who ought to be some sort of role model to the younger generation.

It will be recalled that even weeks before the presidential election appeal was filed at the Supreme Court, the CUPP had already, in its characteristic manner, constituted its own ‘panel’ for the Supreme Court and aggressively brandished the list on television and newspapers.

Shortly afterwards, when the appeal was eventually filed at the court, the coalition came out once again with another imaginary list of panel members and followed it with yet another malicious allegation against the Chief Justice of Nigeria of ‘handpicking’ them in contrast to the ’tradition’ of selecting the most senior justices of the court.

Let it be known that the Supreme Court is not an assemblage of individuals with no defined purpose, vision and modus operandi.

Our operations are strictly guided by the Constitution and extant laws. We are not an appendage of any individual or group of people, and we don’t pander to the dictates of anybody or association.

The Supreme Court, and by extension, the Judiciary, is an independent arm of government that can never be intimidated or dictated to by anybody.

The CUPP’s action only amounts to naming a baby before it is born. We should be mindful of our utterances to avoid inflicting a devastating harm on the nation.

This exhibition of unbridled utterances and prevarication will only endanger the progress and cohesiveness of our country.

The Supreme Court has been entertaining presidential election appeals over the decades, but the unnecessary hysteria and superlative drama being woven around this particular one calls for caution and moderation.

The constitution of any panel to sit on a matter in the court is the sole prerogative of the Supreme Court and it is never an issue for the court to debate on the television or pages of newspapers.

We are not a political party or social club and should never be dragged into any form of baseless pedestrian discussions that will drive valid reasoning aground. Enough of this orchestrated falsehood and campaign of calumny.

We are here to serve the interest of the generality of the Nigerian masses and not a select individuals or groups with inordinate ambition.

As soon as the presidential appeal panel is constituted, the public will be duly informed as Supreme Court is not a secret society. Let us always observe caution when disseminating information to the public.

PoliticsEFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu Rallies Africa Against Corruption by Ogagist1(op): 9:03pm On Oct 15, 2019
The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, on Tuesday October 15, 2019 called on all heads of anti-corruption agencies in Africa to join hands in confronting and defeating corruption through collective action.

Magu, who stated this at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Secretariat in Abuja, while delivering a goodwill message at a two-day workshop on “Capitalisation and Sharing of Good Practices on Promoting Regular Migration and Fighting Border Corruption,” organised by the High Authority against Corruption and Assimilated Offences (HALCIA), of Niger Republic, lauded the efforts of the heads of anti-corruption agencies in Benin Republic, Burkina Faso and Mali.

He commended their spirit of collaboration and comradeship in intelligence sharing, cross-fertilisation of ideas and learning in the fight against corruption.

This workshop has provided a platform not only for our respective countries to collaborate and share ideas, but also for Africa as a continent to unite in its resolve to fight corruption to a standstill.

Therefore I call on every one present, to be part of this alliance and partnership in the interest of Africa,” Magu stated.

Decrying the negative effects of corruption on Africa and its people, he noted that the scourge takes the blame for poor infrastructural development of African societies, and other deficiencies such as lack of portable water, unemployment, banditry, youth restiveness, kidnapping, human trafficking and other forms of criminalities.

According to Magu, despite the vast natural resources that abound within the continent, corruption has made poverty and inequality pervasive and has driven citizens of African nations to desperation.

In his opening remarks, the President of HALCIA, Abdourmane Gousmane, thanked the EFCC boss for accepting to co-chair the workshop, stating that anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin and Mali “must continue to intensify actions to reinforce the place of anti-corruption institutions within the institutional structure of our countries.”

Gousmane noted the important role anti-corruption agencies play in promoting good governance, integrity, accountability and transparency, which he said serve as developmental compass of societies.

He expressed regret at the high level of corruption at national borders of African countries, which he said is responsible for drug trafficking, circulation of illegal arms, smuggling of precious stones and human trafficking.

The workshop which aims at experience sharing on irregular migration and border corruption, proposed advocacy strategies against the scourges in the five nations of Nigeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Benin and Mali

CelebritiesTwo Man Dived Into Ocean To Save A Disabled Girl "Wheelchair Malfunction"(video) by Ogagist1(op): 7:25pm On Aug 19, 2019
Two men are being hailed as “heroes” after they jumped into the ocean to help prevent a girl in a wheelchair from drowning.

The men were on a cruise ship dock at St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands when there was commotion. A girl in a wheelchair had fallen into the ocean after her wheelchair rolled off the dock and she was sinking.

The men, whose have now been identified as Kuntry Hamilton and Randolph Donovan, without thinking, raced to save the girl’s life. They jumped into the ocean and got to work.

Someone on the dock threw down a life preserver which the woman desperately held on to while Hamilton and Donovan swam to rescue her.

In a video of the rescue, posted on social media, the woman is seen holding the life ring as Hamilton and Donovan hold on to her to keep her afloat. Hamilton and Donovan worked together with rescuers on the dock to use a rope that had been tied around the woman, to pull her out of the water.

The unnamed woman was a passenger on board the Carnival Fascination ship, which had stopped in St. Thomas. After the rescue, her father can be seen hugging one of the rescuers in gratitude.

Speaking to CNN, Hamilton and Donovan said the governor and a legislator applauded their rescue efforts. They also said US Virgin Islands Gov. Albert Bryan, Jr. called them and told them, “On behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands, I want to say thank you.”

In a Facebook post, Sen. Kurt A. Vialet, who represents the area in the legislature, lauded the young men, writing, “Everyday heroes with unassuming personalities live among us!”

Hamilton and Donovan said people recognize them on the streets and say they’re “local heroes.”

CelebritiesPosing Nude Is A Business Of Strategy –toyin Lawani (photos) by Ogagist1(op): 7:36am On Aug 17, 2019
Entrepreneur and social media personality, Toyin Lawani, sure knows how to court attention. She recently posted some sultry pictures on her Instagram page in which she appeared nude and the images instantly went viral. Many of her followers lambasted her for posting such pictures, while some praised her for being bold.

In a chat with SATURDAY BEATS, Lawani stated that posting the pictures was a part of her business strategy. She said, “To be honest, I have always been that way. Now that I am single and building a brand, people keep forgetting that this is also a marketing strategy. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really have anything to do with me.

I am so passionate about all my products, and I believe that nobody can promote them the way I do. No matter how much you pay someone to help promote your products, you have to be the brain behind it.

The serial entrepreneur maintained that she wasn’t bothered about the criticisms that greeted her post. “I don’t care and I don’t read them. It is when you bring it to my page that I would see them.

She also claimed that she didn’t have anything against another social media personality, Noble Igwe, who was one of the people who criticised her.

I don’t have any ‘beef’ with him and I don’t know what his problem is. Internationally, my works are well known and respected.

I have created some of the best masterpieces that the world has ever seen, so if you go online and try to water down my brand, that shows who you are, not who I am. There are many people who celebrate my designs and even copy them.

I am a trendsetter I have worked with so many big fashion brands internationally and they pay me,” she stated.

Recalling how she started her business career and what has kept her going over the years, Lawani said,

I have always been very hard working and I am still working. By December, I would have spent 20 years in this industry as an entrepreneur. Passion is important when running a business.

If you don’t have the passion and you are not consistent, a lot of people can spring up and surpass you. I believe it is the hunger and the love for what I do that has allowed me to stay above all these years. I also know how to rebrand, reintroduce and reinvent myself.”

CelebritiesGood Women Are Scarce, Don’t Hurry Out Of Marriage – Uche Elendu Tells Men by Ogagist1(op): 8:59pm On Aug 16, 2019
Nollywood Actor and Producer, Uche Elendu has advised men not to hurry out of marriage as Good Women are few.

Uche Elendu stated that what most women want is a man who is loyal, caring , loving and understanding, adding that a lot women make huge sacrifices just to protect their marriages or relationships and it hurts when they get the blame when it ends.

She wrote;

Good women are scarce. When you get one, don’t mess with her or go out thinking you will find someone better. You Just may not be that lucky, Appreciate your woman, Not all women are materialistic, most of them just want a man who is loyal, caring , loving and understanding. Any other thing is a plus if you’re privileged to have it.

A lot of women make huge sacrifices just to protect their marriages or relationships, the tears, the battles both emotional, physical, spiritual battles they fight, the pain, financial input , betrayal and the disappointments… Yet, they dont give up easily… Till it dawns on them that they’ve actually been in a relationship with themselves. it hurts, and at the end of the day when it packs up, they blame it on the woman. Karma is a bitch and she’s a woman so she favours women. BE WARNED

Pls MEN, take time to appreciate that good woman in your life today. You dont have to do much, just reassure her of her position in your life and proove it to her, make sure you lit up her face with a smile, make her body feel your warmth and her ears hear your heart beat, you never value what you have till its gone, Don’t wait till another man harnesses the treasure you were too blind to see before you receive sense.

To all the women out there working hard to save their marriages and relationships, praying and wetting their pillows nightly , God is not asleep, you are not alone in this, you are a pillar that can not be shaken, stay strong, stay focused, do your best and leave the rest, live your life and protect your heart, don’t be in a hurry to come out of your marriage, it’s lonely out there and full of deceit, but if its a threat to your life, Run run run for your dear life, Cos with your life you can start a home, but in a casket your home is your END.

Big Brother Naija, BBNaija, housemate, Diane has hinted on staying away from sex until marriage.

The BBNaija housemate made the remark while recalling how her aunt once made her take a vow using the Bible to stay away from sex until marriage.

Diane made the disclosure during a game with fellow housemates, Omashola and Elo on Friday.

The BBNaija housemate, however, stated that she would recant her vow if she meets a man she truly loves.

Responding to Elo on when last she had sex, Diane said: “When I was little around 10 or 11 I went to see my cousin and her mother was telling us about how she kept herself till she got married.

She told us that one thing that kept her was she made a vow with God to stay pure, after which she now made us make a vow using the Bible to stay pure till marriage. At 23, I could wait or find someone to confuse my head and I will give it out.”

Recall that evicted Big Brother Naija, housemate, Nelson had admitted pushing for a relationship with Diane.

Nelson said he stopped gunning for a relationship with Diane after Tuoyo told him he had an interest in her.

Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation, Qatar chapter, said lack of functional passport production machine at the Nigerian embassy in that country has made it difficult for them to travel for Sallah.

NIDO-Qatar president, Mr. Victor Ikoli, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.

He said it had become important to have a functional passport machine at the embassy because Nigerians travel all the time, and not only during Sallah.

According to him, the government of Qatar had declared Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as public holidays.

NAN reports that Sunday is a working day in Qatar, while Friday and Saturday are weekends.

Ikoli said, “Sadly, as big as the Nigerian community in Qatar is, we rely on the Nigerian Immigration service in the United Arab Emirates to come to our rescue in terms of passport renewal.

We have a large community with 11,000 members.

Although we have appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission to intervene, we are yet to get a response.

We have 400 people wanting to do capturing for passport and the UAE delegation just came to spend two and a half days to attend to us.

Some people’s passports will expire and they will have to depart, while other people’s job security is on the line due to expiration of their passports.

So, Eid-al-Adha celebration for us in Qatar is hinged on the processing of our passports, as most Nigerians here are Muslim and are supposed to be with their families to celebrate, but cannot,” Ikoli added.

He said that the period within which people were expected to process their passports was too short, adding that those who were captured in August would wait until October before they could get their passports.

He, therefore, urged the Federal Government to wade into the issue of renewal and procurement of passport being faced by NIDO-Qatar chapter, because their employers are not always tolerant once foreign workers’ travel documents expire.
