You are confusing Christian persecution from tribulation. Persecution has always been there and it's individual bases but tribulation is for a definite period which have not began.

But the scripture you shared in Math 24 Jesus will come down to the earth and the whole world will see him. For the rapture nobody is seeing Him and we will meet him there in the cloud.

Let me answer your first question. Before the death of Christ people lived before and they are those who will make even. Now Jesus Christ went through suffering for the salvation of men that you don't have to do anything or sacrifice to be saved. By believing and accepting Him you will be saved. Now at that time of the great tribulation no man will be able to take is own life. Except you were killed by the anti christ that is how anybody can die. That is why every body will pay for their own salvation through suffering. They will persecute everyone who will not receive the mark until many will not be able to bear the pain and suffering. Some will take it and some will not.
Those who will be persecuted at that time to receive the mark of the beast are the Saints of those times. Many will be killed at that time, many will also accept the beast mark due to suffering and they will be doomed. If Jesus comes today they are Christians due to sin that won't make the rapture. Those once will become the Saints of those times because they will realised that they only have one chance now which is to go through the suffering and reject the mark.
