Answer this please: Why would people suddenly want to switch to the Masters program now when they can simply secure a 1year PG admission for their spouse, wait out the 1year period, spouse gets PGWP and they apply for SOWP??

NOT “If you are a SPOUSE of an International student who graduated from a DLI”

Number 4 is where ur answer lies. The list says if you’re a dependent of a person who applied for PR.

Number 5, if you’re a spouse of an international student (international student in question must be a masters or PhD student).

The list never said if you’re the spouse of an international student who is eligible for PGWP.

I have just gone through the IRCC website and can not find any statement on the website that supports this notion that one can't apply for SOWP through PGWP.

I hope the people that kept arguing that you can apply for SOWP when you get PGWP can see this.

And no you can not apply for SP for your kids. You can only apply for VV for the whole family.

Some of the options you have include:

1. Re-apply, after obtaining your gcms notes to ascertain the real reason for your previous rejection;

2. Apply to a Masters program;

3. Wait until when you apply for your PR and include your family;

4. Visit visa application, for a temporary family visit.

I think different people have different experiences but it shouldn’t be a big deal if you don’t have it since you passed the medicals already. They’re likely to request for the yellow card at Lagos airport than over there in Canada.

You are welcomed as you have 3 options open to you.

1. To allow your spouse extend her study permit 1st and later you extend your sowp so her approval will not be delayed.

2. You can do both apply for study and sowp together but people often say it makes d study permit extension delayed

3. Let her apply and get her study extension first while you flagpole with her extension to get your own SOWP extension.

Man the same screenshot you shared I shared it earlier too. All the rules IRCC is rolling out is similar to the one in the UK and you know how the migration there has reduced drastically.

You think IRCC doesn’t know families can endure 1year of study programs and bring in their spouses during PGWP if they’re eligible?

Whatever you know and you’re pursuing do that to yourself and don’t be giving people false hopes.

If you want your spouse with you in Canada simply go for yours Masters or PhD.

There two types of work permit in Canada: Open and Closed work permit. Only international students, their spouses and spouses of foreign workers get the open work permit. And with the new rules/ban, only Masters/Phd students and their spouses get the open work permit. For every other international students, your spouse would not be eligible for SOWP except you change to a closed work permit (LMIA/sponsorship) or you simply become a PR holder.

You should do the learning instead. General Work permit isn’t the same as Post Graduate Work Permit, PGWP is mainly for students who attended a DLI in Canada. You can only bring your spouse in as a College graduate if you’re able to change your status to the General work permit which requires LMIA/sponsorship or you have a Permanent Residency.


PGWP is still attached to your study permit, that is why you must have a valid study permit when applying for PGWP.

Only Masters and PhD students can bring in their spouse anytime, during their study period or during their PGWP.

Baba learn, all you are saying is still for study permit application, the moment you apply for pgwp, it means u are now a work permit holder and not study permit holder and thus, u can apply for open work permit for your partner, that's what most of us are waiting for here after our program to bring in our families....here is the link u requested for....

Lol this is not true. Why is there a time stamp on the PGWP then? PGWP is for you to work in your field of study so you can gain real life experience about what you studied.

When you graduate, you are no longer a student. If you are granted a PGWP, it means you are now working. The policy did not state that PGWP holders can not bring in family, it said student studying etc.

I think this should be straightforward.

Even though you’re eligible for PGWP so far you’re a Post Graduate or Undergraduate student your spouse doesn’t qualify for SOWP, except you get a sponsorship job which requires LMIA.

PGWP is a work permit for students that’s why I said it’s tied to study permit.

A PG student’s spouse can still not apply for SOWP during PGWP as it still falls under study permit. They can only apply when their spouses status changes to work permit.

Sorry for the refusal. Unfortunately, you cannot be considered for SOWP anymore. You can only apply after she starts her PGWP. Your sister statement will show money inflows, how did those funds come in? Is it via business or salaries, depending on the source, then get documents to back it up. How many months statement did you submit? You can show earlier financial help or assistance from your sister to you in the past and you need a good SOP to tie everything together.

Seems the new rule is out regarding Sowp effective March 19,2024.

I will advise you to be know what you’re doing though. MBS is good and will make your application faster as it’s a form of your statement going from the bank to IRCC directly. But you know your husband can’t submit a POF balance of let say 50m and your 6 months MBS is under 5m.

All your emails, letters and enquiries should be directed to RROC now. Since it has exceed the processing time, write something more emotional to them.

All of them sent back automated response, only Nairobi replied later that it is in queue for processing bla bla bla as they always do.

Yes, primary center is RROC according to the GCMS note.

Is this immigration lawyer in Nigeria or Canada. It’s best you contact the company that hired you and complain to them.

I dropped this earlier in the week. Try to read previous messages after your last message so you won’t miss anything that would be helpful to your application. There is every possibility your application is not with Nairobi but another visa processing center.
