Gbenge 77: That means they deviated from the norm this year. They must have some reasons for doing so.
My brother, you are right! I wonder the reason too; may be it is related to the rumored end of DV lottery after 2014. May be they want to take maximum number for the last time. Just guessing!!
Travel / Re: DV 2013 Winners Meet Here by ogbonlowob: 10:04am On May 16, 2013
Gbenge 77: KCC registers approx 105,000 selectees in a fiscal year.

Wrong, this year's winners notification letter is slightly modified: For DV 2014, it registered 125,000 winners!

It is actually true, but it is illegal, they are only playing on your intelligence and if you fall mugu them go chop clean mouth . I had a personal experience at the last point of check-in before boarding. one of the immigration officers stopped me and asked for my passport and I presented it to her and after checking my passport she withheld it and asked me to pay some money, in my mind I thought she was just begging like the others (NDLEA & Customs), who searched my luggage did, I told her sorry that I have exhausted the Naira I had, that It is only the Dollars I have with me and its in higher denomination. she then said they collect $100 from people like us that are travelling for the first time and it is non negotiable, and that if I don't pay the money, that they won't let me cross that point. at that point my blood started boiling cos my departure time was near and the lady was looking very serious. Then I raised my voice on her and because I new my right and when she saw the way I was talking, she was scared and handed over my passport to me and I proceeded.
lets just be wise. thank God you asked this question because some may have fallen victims of this extortions and others may steal fall except the have gotten this information or really know their right.
May God help us to sanitize our country from all these corrupt practices.
Thanks so much for this exposure; I really appreciate. God bless you! For those that booked one way ticket, was it cheaper buying ticket over the counter @ the airport as oppossed to online booking n payment?

I booked at my flight at Emirates office in Lagos. The flight i booked is not direct we had a stop over at dubai before taken off to Dallas Fort Worth(DFW) in Dallas, Tx.
My brother, please you and other members should please answer these questions: 1. Is it true that if Nigerian Immigration sees that ur ticket is one way ticket in the airport, they will just know you are not returning back to Nigeria and then start disturbing u to pay tax or thithe (bribe). If u don't co-operate, they will deliberately delay you until you miss the flight. What do you have to say please? Everyone that booked one way n have left, was this ur experience?

there is no problem even it is one year, but the issue is that you have to notify them and obtain re entry packet if you are going to be away for 7 months plus. But the more you stay outside United state the more you are far from becoming a citizen.

Ok, I get you well now sir. Thanks so much for educating me and others!!

@ ogbonlowob, my visa and medical expire the same day. In UK, ur visa started counting from the day u did ur medical, so that is how both expire the same day.
Sorry, I thought you were Nija based. I did not know that's how UK do their own thing. No yawa!

baba just like your name, wisdom is money o, the link I posted is not to condemn anybody but to shed more light on the issue, recently one of our friend on nairaland too was warned by immigration officer when he came back last month after 6 months in naija to make sure he starts working in United state before his residency clocks two years. The link also emphasized that there must be "a tie to United state" e.g a house, driver's license, bills etc to be a able to naturalize in the nearest future.

Thank you Baba! Read my last post... I dey learn too na! Ese gan sir!! But sorry, in this case above the person stayed more than 6 months. We are talking of less e.g. 5 months, 2 weeks. What do you think sir?

Sorry baba, I just came back from work.Yes there is no problem with that, my friend in Houston did same thing, he came down as Principal applicant get a job a house within three months and his wife and kids joined him later, but the issue of medical should be taking into consideration too, his wife was disturbed for the medical issue and was mandated to do some physical b4 her green card was finally released.
Sorry, didn't get that medical part well: did the wife's medical expire or was close to expiry? why did she have to do some physical b4 her green card was finally released? thanks.

Also Owobaba, you wrote above that your medical and visa expire same time: It is capital " IMPOSSIBLE". You did your medical a week or 2 before interview and so both visa and medical cannot expire at the same time.

Based on the USCIS link above, I think it will be wisdom to thread with care; please, do not resign your job yet. You can write the resignation letter and package one month salary and give to a friend to go to your office and drop if you are successfully admitted into the U.S. at the port of entry. I wouldn't want you to loose both ways. What I mean is this: If you get to the port of entry and they deny you entry into the U.S. and you have already resigned, then you loose 2 ways. To avoid loosing both ways, wait till you are successfully admitted into US before you now ask your close friend or family member to drop your resignation at your office. Find out from others to: You may come in through some routes in the US like the sub-urbs where the immigration officers are not so strict to avoid wahala. Then just jeje enter bus or train till you reach where you dey go. Even if it is from one end of US to another. The quiz to answer now is this: People on this forum should help with port of entry with no much immigration wahala, like a village airport or so. Not airports like JFK or Atlanta. Thanks!

thanks ogbonlowo, but could it be your neighbor is already a citizen?
My neigbor is a medical student and won the lottery when she was in 300levels in the university here in Nigeria. She has used these past 10 years to complete her education, get married and is on her residency programme. She plans to go settle finally in US with her husband after completing her residency here in Nigeria. If you want more proofs, don't rely on such kinds of links: Pay to talk with a US immigration lawyer for like 30 minutes. My brother, real knowledge is power!

Thanks Temmy & Soji, I just got married about a week ago, wondering what signal that might be to them. I went through the link and it seems one can not actually predict what the airport's immigration might have in stock for one. I'm thinking of taking a step right now which includes writing my resignation letter with a notice till May ending.

Take it easy my brother! Do not let anyone frighten you. I have my neigbor here in Nigeria who has been servicing her green card for the past 10 years. She goes back to US after every 6 months and spends a week or so. The rules are very clear: You cannot stay out of US for more than 6 months. I know of another guy who couldn't get a good job in Nigeria and went back to continue with his paying job in Nigeria (He works in the embassy and is paid good dollars). Relax! Ask any immigration lawyer, you are not taking any wrong step. Don't leave that paying job till you have found one in US. Be warned!! That link is not an official link from KCC or US Department of State. Comfirm very well, people put all kinds of links on the net to frighten people.

I guess you can use ur naija address but I used c/o the host address in the US. I was debittd #62,625 by GTB for the payment

Thanks so much! The amount of =N=62,625.00 that was debited from your account; does it represent the value of 165USD per head for USCIS or how many persons did you pay for?

junkerhill: my congratulations to your sister and the husband.
To correct something, Gentiger's visa was not delayed, rather he relied on the visa tracking without knowing his visa was ready for pickup, that's why he advised people nt to track their visas bt to go there and pick it after 5working days.
As for where to submit the visas to, they can submit at lekki since that where most of the family members have been picking theirs.
My congratulations to them once again.
thank u 4 d advice

Gd morn house mates! My sister n d husband called me to say that their interview went well. The consular officer asked the husband for his medical, but he told the consular officer that his medical will be ready in 2 weeks time. The CO then gave them a white paper n returned their int. passport to them asking them to submit their int passport together with the medicals (when it is ready). He asked them to submit it at either of the Lekki or Ikeja. The choice is theirs to make. The question they are asking now is dis: which of the GSS centre is better to submit their int passport to? From the past posts I read, everyone keeps talking about only Lekki. Pls house, someone should kindly answer or respond to which of the centres is more reliable or won't cause delays like how they delayed Gentiger. Thanks!
