Crime / Dylann Roof Convicted On All Counts In Church Slayings by ogbonnacomfort: 9:24am On Dec 16, 2016
Dylann Roof was convicted Thursday in the chilling attack on nine black church members who were shot to death last year during a Bible study, affirming the prosecution’s portrayal of a young white man who hoped the slayings would start a race war or bring back segregation.
Instead, the single biggest change to emerge from the June 17, 2015, slayings that shocked the nation was the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse, where it had flown for 50 years over the Capitol or on the grounds. Roof appeared with the flag in several photos in a racist manifesto.
In his confession to the FBI, the gunman said he carried out the killings after researching “black on white crime” on the internet. He said he chose a church because that setting posed little danger to him.
As the verdict was read, Roof just stared ahead, much as he did the entire trial. Family members of victims held hands and squeezed one another’s arms. One woman nodded her head every time the clerk said “guilty.” In all, Roof was convicted of 33 counts.
Jurors will reconvene early next month to hear more testimony and decide whether Roof gets the death penalty or life in prison. Roof told the judge again Thursday that he wanted to act as his own attorney during the penalty phase.
In closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Williams mocked Roof for calling himself brave in his hate-filled journal and during his confession, saying the real bravery came from the victims who tried to stop him as he fired 77 bullets at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church.
“Those people couldn’t see the hatred in his heart any more than they could see the .45-caliber handgun and the eight magazines concealed around his waist,” Williams said.
Defense lawyer David Bruck conceded Roof committed the slayings, but he asked jurors to look into his head and see what caused him to become so full of hatred, calling him a suicidal loner who never grasped the gravity of what he did.
The defense put up no witnesses during the seven-day trial. They tried to present evidence about his mental state, but the judge ruled that it did not have anything to do with Roof’s guilt or innocence.
Roof was just imitating what he saw on the internet and believed he had to give his life to “a fight to the death between white people and black people that only he” could see and act on, Bruck said.
Williams’ 50-minute closing argument filled the court with tension. At times, the prosecutor raised his voice, saying Roof was a cold, calculated killer. Some family members of victims dabbed their eyes with tissues, and jurors appeared emotional when Williams, after apologizing to them, showed crime scene photos of each person killed alongside a small picture of them while alive.
The prosecutor said the good of all those faithful churchgoers prevailed over Roof’s hatred.
“This defendant chose to take their lives. He chose to break their bodies. But he does not get to choose who they were,” Williams said.
In a lengthy recording played earlier at trial, Roof told FBI agents he picked Mother Emanuel because of its historic significance in the black community. The church is the oldest in the South and one of its founders Denmark Vesey led a failed 1822 slave rebellion that drove the church underground.
Roof, who was convicted of federal hate crimes and obstruction of religion, said he had felt compelled to act because of the way blacks treated whites and said the shootings were “minuscule” in comparison.
The prosecutor recounted other evidence, like how Roof sat in the church parking lot for 28 minutes in his car, likely loading the 88 bullets — a number embraced symbolically by white supremacists — into eight magazines. Roof was handed a Bible as he sat in the prayer service for nearly 45 minutes before opening fire when the worshippers closed their eyes for the final prayer. He reloaded a half-dozen times and left behind three survivors, telling one woman that he wanted to keep her alive so that she could tell the world about the shootings.
“It is my hope that the survivors, the families, and the people of South Carolina can find some peace in the fact that justice has been served,” she said in a statement.

Education / Re: 25 Things They Should Have Taught Us In School But Didn’t by ogbonnacomfort: 3:00pm On Dec 15, 2016
sophimara:
1. Taxes
How confusing are taxes? If we had a bit more practice preparing them before we left school, we’d be in better shape to tackle them after school. Imagine defining tax as lessons are going, memorizing them for exams and then come out to face the reality of paying them.
2. Live Without Technology

I’m not getting all doomsday or anything but there might be times when you need to live without technology – like, during a natural disaster. The more we rely on tech, the more vulnerable we are when the batteries stop!
3. Health!
Sure, there are PE classes at school but is there really any in-depth learning in regards to how to look after your health in the long term?
4. Shopping
Shopping is always going to be part of your life, but wouldn’t it be great if, at school, they taught you how to spend it wisely and how to get the best bargains?
5. Speaking
This might sound like a strange one but there runs are on the board, so to speak. How many people do you know that don’t know how to speak politely, or effectively, when it comes to communication either personally or professionally?
6. First aid
You may have been lucky enough to attend a school where this was taught in some form or another. But it really should be a core part of the school curriculum – seriously. That way, absolutely everybody would know it as second nature.
7. Law
We don’t want everybody to become lawyers, but it would be nice if people were taught the law from day one and then perhaps, they’d grow up to live in a more law-abiding world.
8. Patience
I wish they had taught me this at school. I’m very bad at being patient. I can’t even wait for this damn sentence to finish!
9. Finding job
Yeah, school gets us ready for more schooling (in the form of university), however, a lot of us could do with a bit of help learning how to go about getting a job, either while we’re studying or beyond that. Not just teaching us how to write application later though.
10. The metric system
This one probably applies mainly to people in the United States who never got involved in track and field. But that’s a whole lot of people!
Some schools might teach a bit, but most need to teach a whole lot more.

Crime / “eedc To Face Efcc” By Oguzor Ofor by ogbonnacomfort: 2:55pm On Dec 15, 2016
Enugu Electricity Distribution company has won a lot of battles against the people of Ebonyi but this time it looks like the company will have real case to answer because of the meticulously packaged document of residents of Abakaliki especially the people without transformers who now feeling seriously cheated especially as the recently damaged transformers were provided by them (residents) and which the company inherited from their predecessor, PHCN.
More aggrieved are residents of Agwu Street who still have not settled the grievances that emanated from the previous provision of transformer and cables, all by themselves.< br/>According to some of the residents, self help with assistance from a National assembly member enabled them to have a transformer after months of darkness “just for our street, they overloaded it to improve their business now it is damaged.
’’ We are not ready to go to their office because some people may loss control and get violent which we have witnessed in Ebonyi before.
The best is to take our case to the EFCC, if the Government cannot attend to alleged fraud cases that affects the people directly then the fight against corruption has no meaning’‘. For EEDC to face EFCC is a task that must be accomplished with the cooperation of all, we hope to put enough documents from every complainant in Ebonyi state”.The resident said.
Another resident said ‘‘the contract with the company should be made public to see if there is no provision that holds them liable for not providing better services than their predecessor”.
In a nutshell, let it be understood that;
-The erratic power supply has been an issue that has generated tension in Ebonyi when the residents eventually insisted on being supplied prepaid meter but despite all, the people pay their bills.
There is great evidence of inability to pay bills after the previous long period of waiting for transformer because businesses were ruined and the programs of the people changed but the people struggled to cooperate with EEDC with the promise that thing have changed already.
-The EEDC is to be reminded according to the residents that the Abakaliki without street lights yesterday is not the same as Abakaliki of today that is well lit by the state Government, we cannot see light everywhere except in our homes.
It is pertinent to note that the human right lawyers frequently contacted by the residents have advised against going to the office to protest as it may be misunderstood or some people may get out of control because there is obvious tension on the people especially as Children are at home for holiday.
Let it be understood that the relationship between energy distributors and the consumers is a business that must be covered with a contract that must be agreed on by both parties.
I think time has come for the Federal Government to tell us who signed the contract for us, while we are the ones that pay the bills.
You can not tell me when to pay bill and how you give me light I must also tell you how I pay my bill should I not get the service.
If the electricity Generation is low, refusal to provide the available is sabotage and clear intension to rubbish the Government .

we are not exempted from this suffering and we stand with anybody that will use legal means to bring about “no wayo business relationship and living.”

Nairaland / General / 7 Facts About Sleep Paralysis That You May Not Know :don’t Blame The Witches by ogbonnacomfort: 4:37pm On Dec 02, 2016
Have you ever suffered an episode of sleep paralysis? It can be a tremendously frightening experience, one you’re not likely to forget. You wake from sleep immobilized, unable to move your body or turn your head. You try to make a sound, but you can’t open your mouth. You feel short of breath, with a strong feeling of pressure on your chest, weighing your body down. You feel a deep sense of dread or danger — maybe you even feel there’s a strange presence in the room.
Here are some facts about sleep paralysis:
1. Sleep paralysis gives you the feelings that you woke up dead
2. It doesn’t appear like you are dreaming: In dreams your whole body is mobile and you are free to think but in this case, you are just immobile and yet you are awake and unable to move any part of your body.
3. During sleep paralysis, the body remains paralyzed while the brain awakens and the eyes start to open. Sufferers become alert in a transient conscious state, but they are unable to move voluntary muscles or speak. Though your breathing remains unaffected, this lasts from 20 seconds to a few minutes.
3. Sleep paralysis can involve hallucination: Sleep paralysis is just super frightening to begin with, so it often triggers a panicked response with increased heart rate. “People freak out because they can’t move, and it’s this extreme anxiety which causes people to be very fearful of their surroundings,” says Breus.
4. Sleep paralysis is a natural occurrence and can happen to anyone, but it’s mostly common among young adults
5. To avoid sleep paralysis, get a better and longer sleep
6. But really there is no definitive cause of sleep paralysis, so don’t blame your village witches, they are innocent here.
7. There is no evidence that it will kill you, this is because no death or injuries has been reported over the years as a result of sleep paralysis.

Crime / Prophet Magaya Rape Case Referred To Constitutional Court by ogbonnacomfort: 2:12pm On Dec 01, 2016
PROSECUTORS refused Wednesday to drop the rape case against prominent Harare church leader Walter Magaya, prompting his lawyers to seek referral to the Constitutional Court.
Chief Law Officer Michael Mugabe indicated that the prosecution intends to indict Magaya for trial at the High Court despite his accuser withdrawing charges.
Magaya’s lawyers Advocate Thabani Mpofu and instructed by Admire Rubaya told Harare magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe that this was unacceptable.
Advocate Mpofu said the complainant confessed to Acting Prosecutor-General Ray Goba that she was not raped, but that she had lied against Magaya.
“The State’s intention is not only tainted; it is not in accordance with Sections 65 and 66 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act. It is also not in accordance with Section 56 (1) and 69 (1) as well as the liberty guarantee as set out in the Constitution,” said Mpofu.
“We are aware of two things -that the State has been advised by the complainant in writing that she does not wish to pursue the matter. The second and most fundamental one is that the complainant has made a decision and advised the State that the complaint she made is false.
“For these reasons, and bearing in mind that there are two processes, the first being intention to indict and the second being the committal in terms of the accused, therefore before there is committal, we are entitled to challenge the intention to indict.”
The defence also indicated that they wanted to bring the complaint, who was in the public gallery, to the witness stand to confirm that she had withdrawn charges.
Prosecutors said this was unheard of.
“There is no law which allows accused persons to challenge indictment at the High Court. Issues that arise after that are triable.
“It has never happened in our jurisdiction and the court should not entertain the application.”
Responding Advocate Mpofu said: “I am going to mount this application in a manner that I deem fit to protect my client’s rights. This is a preliminary application.
“There is no trial at this stage, so there are no State witnesses to talk about since they are witnesses for justice. This morning in my presence, the complainant told the State the position she had adopted.”
Magistrate Chikwekwe backed the defence argument saying: “The court cannot stop the State to indict the accused person.
“It is the State, not the complainant, which has that constitutional mandate. Complainant is just a witness, hers is a mere persuasion which is not binding.”

Magaya’s lawyers are expected to file written submissions for the application for referral to the Constitutional Court on Thursday tomorrow with the State responding on December 12.

Crime / Man Kills Brother, On The Run by ogbonnacomfort: 3:53pm On Nov 23, 2016
A man from Mudidzwa Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera is on the run after he allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death following a dispute.
Ngoni Zinyemba allegedly stabbed Tinofa Zinyemba with a knife three times on the neck and in the chest because the deceased had assaulted the suspect’s son with fists.
Manicaland Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the incident.
Councillor Dambson Makichi of ward 15 told The Mirror that Ngoni fatally stabbed his brother Tinofa after the later assaulted his (Ngoni) son, Decent Zinyemba with fists.
He said that Ngoni’s son entered into a room where Tinofa and Ngoni were discussing family issues with their mother. Decent entered playing music at high volume which interrupted the family discussion.
This annoyed Tinofa and he ordered Decent to stop the music. Decent allegedly continued to play the music which did not go down well with Tinofa who then assaulted Decent.
This saw Tinofa and Ngoni exchanging harsh words and blows as Ngoni was saying Tinofa had no right to assault his son.
Ngoni then took a knife and stabbed Tinofa. Ngoni ran away after realising that he had killed his brother.

The matter was reported at Murambinda Police Station.

Culture / Burial Ceremony In Yoruba Land by ogbonnacomfort: 5:31pm On Nov 22, 2016
The Yoruba’s belief that death is not the end of life; rather, it is a transition from one form of existence to another. There is a belief in an afterlife that is a continuation of this life, only in a different setting; the afterlife is conditional, depending on the nature of one’s life and the nature of one’s death. This is the meaning of life.
Yoruba believes that: Keni huwa gbedegbede; keni lee ku pelepele; K’omo eni lee n’owo gbogboro L’eni sin. (Let one conduct one’s life gently; that one may die a good death; that one’s children may stretch their hands over one’s body in burial.)
The achievement of a good death is an occasion for celebration of the life of the deceased. This falls into several categories. First, children and grand children would celebrate the life of their parent who passed and left a good name for them. Second, the Yoruba are realistic and pragmatic about their attitude to death. They know that one may die at a young age. The important thing is a good life and a good name. As the saying goes: Ki a ku l’omode, ki a fi esin se irele eni; o san ju ki a dagba ki a ma ni adie irana, (if we die young, and a horse is killed in celebration of one’s life; it is better than dying old without people killing even a chicken in celebration.)
When the breath has departed from the body there is the usual outburst of exaggerated grief, with loud cries, lamentations, and frenzied gestures, and the eldest son of the deceased, or the brother, (if there be no son) will be call upon. The family will meet with the children of the deceased on how to bury the death, if the deceased is a Muslim, he or she must be buried same day after which the seventh days and fourth day’s prayers will be conducted by the Imam.
In the case of a Christian, the family decides whether to bury immediately or keep the corpse in the mortuary In the meantime a death-feast has been prepared, and now commences, while outside the house a continues beating of drums is sustained, together with frequent discharges of musketry, fired in honour of the deceased. The feast, at which intoxicants are used lavishly, soon becomes a veritable orgia, in which, however, the chief mourners, that is, the widows and daughters of the deceased, take no part; for as soon as they have performed the last offices for the dead, and have placed the corpse at the door, they are restricted to an adjacent apartment, where they are compelled by custom to remain during the three days that a corpse invariably lies in state. While thus immured they are forbidden to wash, and usage requires them to refuse all food, at least for the first twenty-four hours, after which they usually allow themselves to be persuaded to take some nourishment.
The conventional mourning is the business of the women of the household, who, while the men are feasting utter loud lamentations in the room in which they are confined; and, in consequence of this, the epithet isokun, “a mourner,” is often applied to a female child; a male, on the other hand, being sometimes called iwale, “a digger,” i.e., of a grave. A father might thus say that he had begotten two mourners and a digger, meaning, two daughters and a son. Female friends usually come to join in the lamentations, the conventional character of which is while the widows and daughters lament their lonely and unprotected state, somewhat as follows:—

Crime / An Australian Woman Falls Love-scam Victim To A Nigerian, Rots In Jail; Full Sto by ogbonnacomfort: 2:00pm On Nov 21, 2016
The Police Judicial prison on the outskirts of Phnom Penh was once a camp used by the Khmer Rouge to interrogate, torture and ultimately murder its victims.
Now, its decaying walls and overcrowded conditions present a new kind of hell for inmates.
This is where Yoshe Ann Taylor has spent the past three years. The 44-year-old Australian woman was convicted of drug smuggling in 2013 after being caught trying to leave the Cambodian capital with two kilograms of heroin concealed in her luggage.
Taylor’s incarceration was based on information provided to Cambodian authorities by the Australian Federal Police. Her sentence is 23 years, enough to miss the entire childhoods of her young son and daughter, who now live without her in their Queensland home even though Australian authorities have folders of evidence that suggest she is innocent.
A joint investigation by Fairfax Media and SBS’s The Feed can now reveal that Taylor was the victim of an internet dating scam run by an international drug smuggling syndicate.
The syndicate which entrapped her, along with other Australian women, continues to operate, apparently unrestricted, from inside the Cambodian prison system. It continues to target Australian women with the intention of turning them into unwitting drug mules.
In 2013, Yoshe Taylor was a single mother living on an isolated property in Queensland. She had recently quit her job as a kindergarten teacher and was working part-time as a tutor while home-schooling her own two children, aged 9 and 14. She dreamed of building a new career in the arts.
Like millions of others, she went online in search of companionship. There she came across a man who offered even more - not just charm, sex appeal and romance, but the possibility of a job in an arts and crafts business.
He went by the name Precious Max, and claimed he was a successful South African businessman working in Cambodia at the so-called Khmer Arts and Crafts business.

Guys it’s cool to sit behind your partner in the kitchen while she boll meat you help with the vegetable, while the meat boll you might be asked to check if it’s well cooked. It saves her stress and strength for another day, rather than crossing your legs on the table with a huge news paper over your face and screaming “how many hour will it take you to cook”? Romance / Ex Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke Opens Up On Sextape by ogbonnacomfort: 11:36am On Nov 12, 2016
Since the story of her sex video broke some weeks ago, the 20 year old Ex Miss Anambra has finally broken her silence. In an exclusive interview with The Nation
She said: “Early last year, the ABS advertised for the Miss Anambra beauty pageant. I heard of it and went to make enquiry. One of the organizers told me to apply, I told them I was not interested but the man insisted saying that I might win the competition. He also promised to give me the form for free if I indicated interest, and he did when I agreed to contest.
But one Jane told me that before a winner would be declared; there were certain things to be done, including the (sex) video. I consented after some persuasion from the organizers. I later went for the contest at the Marble arch Hotels in Awka, and I was declared winner with a Kia Rio vehicles as star prize. When I went for my car after the contest, the organizers brought out a contract form for me to sign, but I told them I wanted to contact my lawyer to see it. I was not given the opportunity to do so.
What they kept telling me was that if I had insisted on not signing the contract or wanted to contact my lawyer, they would release the video. At that point, I became uncomfortable and signed the contract to avoid such embarrassment, and the car was releases to me from where it was packed within the premises.
From that moment, I became a slave to them. On October 11, 2016, they called me to come and make presentations inside the office one of the organizers. After that, the man excused some people in that room and showed me the video again. They told me to drop my car and removed my crown from me. I told them I would take the car as stipulated in the contract. They insisted I should pack it in the premises.
I told my uncle at Abuja about the situation. My uncle called them and asked them to release my car to me; instead they forwarded the video to him as part of the blackmail. That was what happened,” she said crying. She denied being a lesbian saying she had never being involved in the act before.

Nairaland / General / In Honor Of “THE COMMANDER A.A” (lt. Col Abu Ali). by ogbonnacomfort: 1:21pm On Nov 10, 2016
All our gallant military men and women, brothers and sisters who have been tormented by the evil of terrorism we declare this site out of bound to any mention of the name of terrorists, terrorist organizations, or even Terrorist activities.
If ‘they’ bomb to be recognized, we must refuse to help them spread their ill news, but we shall celebrate the Gallantry and Honor our Heroes without a word to glorify the senseless seekers of publicity.
Post or news on any organization or individual that kills and maims just to be heard will not be allowed on www.nowayobloggers.com.
That we do not talk about terrorists has no impact on the competence of the Military. Our refusal to break their ill news will surely break their ill heart.
If the news of bombing sells so well, we have an alternative commodity that sells more and that is the news without bombing. On that, stands the position of Nowayo bloggers.

Romance / MEN ATTRACTED TO CHILREN BELOW 13 “MINOR” by ogbonnacomfort: 11:51am On Nov 08, 2016
INTERPOL made various arrest of pedophiles who defiled thirteen year old girls worldwide yet it is always reported that we have such cases in Nigeria we are yet to be visited by the international Police as our local Police may not look in that direction. The worst is that the pedophiles makes it public and even marry the girls as if the marriage automatically changes the age of the girl.
When will pedophiles be seen as criminals in Nigeria? When will the Nigerian Police be interested in inviting them for questioning?
We are confident this will never take place as the Nigerian society seem to be at home with Pedophilia or what did our National assembly say about that?
Dictionary definitions preadolescence as ranging from age 10 to 13 years, it may also be defined as the period from 9 to 14 years .
Girls at 14 are less likely to have become physically developed enough to sustain a healthy pregnancy or to give birth.
I believe our health blog “life ultimate” will have more to say about the implication to the Nigerian society.

What happens to a woman who got married to a man that has this illness of being attracted to children?

Donald Trump boasts that he doesn’t need stars to fill his venues in the closing days of the presidential campaign. Maybe so, but the very people Hillary Clinton needs to shore up her campaign — millennials and minorities — appear all too happy to see her with singer Beyoncé and rapper husband Jay Z.
Standing on stage with the superstars at a free concert Friday night at Cleveland’s Wolstein Center, Clinton lavished praise on the celebrity couple and asked the thousands of cheering fans for their votes.
