And moreover, the way some people reason shows their sense of judgment is beclouded by partisan politics and sentiments.

The first fallacy you committed was to assume all atheists subscribe to the big bang theory.
FYI, not all atheists are science-inclined. There are a good number of atheists, agnostics e.t.c who have not much knowledge of science. Some arrived at irreligion out of sheer curiosity and thirst to know the truth and live by it; some due to glaring absurdities, inconsistencies and fallacies being propagated by religion.
Heck, there are many irreligious people who are okay with the simple answer "I don't know" unlike religion which claims to have monopoly of knowledge. |

alentyno: Sometimes the way you guys reason is so so appalling!
1. OAU is an old school thus there is every chance of it producing more 1st class!!! E.g man city defeated man utd last sunday but United have 20 epl titles to their while man city has just 4 but doesn't it mean that man utd is the better team right now? NO!!
2. A high % of bright students seek admission into all these hyped schools like OAU so that they can garner respect from their peers So @ the end of the day if a lot of them graduate with 1st class it doesn't mean it is due to the school!!!!!! It is basically down to their intelligence
GET THIS INTO YOUR DAMN SKULL!!!! Ode. Did you bother reading the first part of my comment at all? My comment was actually grounded on that..The second part was just an appendage. And even if my reasoning were to be indeed appalling, yours would be more appalling. Why?..In her 15 years of existence,AAUA has produced just one while within the same timeframe(15 yrs),I can authoritatively tell you that OAU has produced nothing less than five of them! Can you now see how warped your reasoning is? |

Btw where are the peeps from the supposed Great ife supposed better by far unilorin UNN? UNILAG? ABU? Anybody? OAU last session law finalists were not among the just-graduated NLS students due to the the disruption of the school calendar caused by an internal strike. Infact, they had to enlist those with carry-overs from the sets previous to theirs just to fill the quota allocated to them with something. Out of the 250 slots allotted to OAU,not even up to 100 students were shortlisted. And FYI,while AAUA is just producing her first Law School First class graduate,OAU has produced innumerable number of them. Even not just OAU but as well as other Universities listed in your comments. |

Education › Re: Hardest Courses To Study In Nigeria by Ograke(m): 6:19am On Nov 01, 2014 |
deesquarediddy: Be it Nigeria or anywhere in the world, Engineering is the most difficult course to study. Medicine and Surgery only require longer years when you add internship and all sort (Requires lots of dedication too, but you only read, understand and pour back during exams). It’s nowhere near engineering when it comes to difficulty in learning. Engineering combines knowledge from physics, chemistry and mathematics e.t.c not to mention the unreal problems you have to solve that require you to think, think again and again.
Students dropped out of Engineering because of the difficulty, so the drop out issue is not peculiar to medicine alone I can speak for Mechanical, Computer and Electrical Engineering...Infact, almost all engineering course has hours of Lab work/practical to go with it. Scheduling is always a nightmare. With engineering, you don't memorize answers for tests… how nice would that have been? You are given unreal problems to solve, with limited time to do so. Having to take 4 levels of Calculus…
The correct list, from the hardest 1. Engineering: Mechanical, Civil, Electrical/Electronics, Chemical, Petroleum e.t.c Congratulations, engineers, now you finally have some proof for what you’ve been telling everyone all along: yours is the hardest major. From chemical to civil to electrical to mechanical, the courses you take in chemistry, physics, calculus, statistics, geology, biology, and other tough prereqs give you the lowest rate of As and the highest rate of Cs for any major. Because of this, the path has a notoriously high dropout rate some have pegged as high as 60% per year.
2. Life Sciences: It’s a rare student who doesn’t find at least one or two concepts that trip him up in cell biology class. The life sciences include anatomy, biochemistry, neuroscience, biology, genetics, zoology, and more tricky subjects, landing this field just behind engineering on the low GPA spectrum. Many graduates of a life sciences path go on to careers in the medical, dental, or veterinary fields, which famously require as many as seven or eight more years of difficult schooling, internship, and residency after a bachelor’s degree is earned.
3. Physical sciences: Physics, chemistry, and geology all fold into this major, making it one of the hardest paths to take on in college. With the lowest percentage of students able to work full-time (more than 30 hours a week) and the fourth-lowest rate of students with GPAs over 3.5, majoring in this field proves to be a challenging undertaking. And the uphill battle doesn’t end after graduation. A glut of graduates, a poor economy, and a move toward cleaner energy has created a troubling outlook for chemistry majors.
4. Business & management: You may think what your boss does is not difficult at all, and you may be right; a degree in management is probably not what makes this category a difficult one. It more likely lands here thanks to the challenges of getting a degree in finance or accounting. Either way, the data shows well below half of business and management students are able to pull off a 3.5 or better, and they average the second-longest amount of time in which students complete their degrees.
5. Social/behavioral sciences: This category seems to be a popular choice for students seeking an easy A, but they could do so more easily by picking something else. The social and behavioral sciences encapsulate what are sometimes known as the “soft sciences”: psychology, economics, sociology, anthropology, and political science. Although they are much more closely related by GPA to some of the easy major entries than they are to engineering, the social and behavioral sciences house the fourth-lowest number of fulltime workers and are tied for shortest median degree completion time.
For those shouting law, just accept it simply doesn’t rate as one of the hardest…You can even study law from home, Yeah! It’s that easy. Ignorance is bliss indeed. The degree of your ignorance is quite befuddling. Google "Top ten most difficult exams in the world" and you'll find two law exams there. I need no sage to tell me you're likewise science-inclined. Making rash comment out of ignorance. If you've done well to educate yourself and research well before spewing that thing up there here, you could have averted publicly displaying your ignorance here. You think law is just about reading the constitution and recounting its provisions later? Lolllsss... |

Education › Re: See What Unilag Did!Is This Not Gonna Increase Materialism In Our Ladies? by Ograke(m): 9:39am On Oct 07, 2014 |
Acidosis: The ROI (Return on Investment) of a beautiful girl to a company is higher than that of a 'brilliant' one. Who says beautiful girls aren't intelligent?
I believe the contest is company sponsored; hence, the company has little to gain from a first class student. As a matter of fact, most of these companies (telecoms, etc) have lots of pending first class and sharp 2-1 resumes.
I really do not blame them; is Ekiti not the Nigerian state with the highest number of PhD holders? What's the impact of PhD degrees on the state?
Companies pay advitisers, models, etc more than hard working staff. It's all about RETURN ON INVESTMENT, not the number of linear equations you can solve on paper.
...and if I'm asked, I will say a 200 Unilag student is intelligent. How do I know? She passed her O'level papers, utme, and 100 courses.
I have a 7year old nephew who received 1m for simply participating in a 35 seconds TV advert for a fruit juice company. Meanwhile, the same company barely pay entry level degree holders N70k monthly. Its all about the ROI. This same advert, I believe must have yielded more returns for the company, (than what the dude rolling in an office chair can give).
There is absolutely nothing NEW a first class student can give a company whose workforce already consists of 70% first class and 2-1 holders; all they need might just be a funny advert created by "I go die" & voilla!! More millions will roll in!
Someone is also condemning ProjectFame. Let me ask; do you guys know the gain MTN made from Geoffery, Ruky, Emeka, etc? The truth is 5m, 2m, 1m & cars are mere peanuts when compared with the profit the company made from the contest.
Without these "s. illy" contests, most companies wouldn't be able to pay the "intelligent" workers.
We really need to stop criticizing everything! Nonsense.. Just because you have a nephew that once benefitted from something similar.. Sentiments.. Is the Nigerian environment itself enabling? Does it encourage intellectualism and innovativeness? Some of these people you're accusing of contributing nothing to the nation's progress travel abroad to where they're appreciated and become phenomenal there.. Is it even all PhD holders that are gainfully employed?..Some that even have job among them are underemployed thereby finding it hard to maximize their intellectual capabilities. |
