Health › Re: Trying To Get Tested For Coronavirus By NCDC In Abuja: An Experience by ogtavia(m): 12:29pm On Mar 29, 2020 |
SinisterX: ATTENTION: PRESIDENCY & FED. MINISTRY OF HEALTH
To tell you the truth, NCDC can't do anything for you because they are not ready. All this PR they are doing they are assuming people will not try that's why. On Wednesday (25/03/2020) I and a colleague of mine decided we want to be sure of our status before going into #selfisolation. So we went through the following steps 1. We called the toll free line and after all the normal recorded stories, when we chose to speak to an agent they end the call. 2. We went to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, they told us they don't do testing there, that the hospital is only an isolation center. They refer us back to NCDC office in town, told us that's where testing lab is. 3. We drove to NCDC office at Jabi. There are two NCDC offices there in close proximity. The first office told us they don't do testing but they directed us to the second office saying that's where testing is handled.
4. The second office too absolved themselves of that responsibility and directed us to NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Gaduwa.
5. We visited the NCDC NRL. On getting there, the security at the gate informed us that a lot of people were there too earlier in the day and were turned away. That they don't do testing for individuals unless your state took your sample and submit to them.
6.They refer us to a circular posted at the gate and told us to contact the FCT Epidemiology team lead on COVID-19.
7. When I called him I introduced myself by name and then asked him if he's the FCT team lead on this issue. He answered yes. I then asked him how do I go about getting tested. He asked who are you? Who gave you my number? I told him I'm an Abuja resident and him number is on a circular at the NCDC office. He told us he doesn't know. He said we should go to NCDC. I told him but they referred us to you. He was silent. I then asked him to advise us. He told us to go to "National Health Disease Control" which doesn't exist. I will send a copy of the circular to this forum. Obviously they are doing selective testing which is dangerous. It means a lot of people might have been infected already but for lack of testing they are moving about infecting others.
While the information from the official channels are saying people are not coming forth, the truth is that people are going but are been turned away. And I know because I was turned away first hand.
It also tells you that either the NCDC are lying to us or they are not coordinated at all. How will you explain three branches of the office each denying responsibility and pointing us to the next instead of just explaining to us the laid down procedures by the NCDC Have you finally gotten tested? Because I want to get tested. Can we discuss on WhatsApp? |

kingteeee: Hi Nairalander, Advice is needed here please help me out, I was using Lexus ES330 2005 for over 2 years which I had no issue with it but late last year I involved in an accident which cost some damages on the car and after repair I sold the car but now I need a car again and my budget is between 1.7m - 2.1m I think I should go for a low maintenance car so I’m confused maybe I should buy Corolla 2005-2007 model or Camry 2007-2009 model. Thanks They are both good cars. But coming from a Lexus ES330, If I were you, I will buy a Camry. With 1.9m, you should be able to get a good '08 Camry. If you are in Abuja or close by, I can hook you up with a reliable dealer. |

Heartbender: You might want to ask boko haram since you're an investigative journalist my point is bloggers should not capitalise on very sad and heartbreaking incidents such as this to draw up stories and conclusions in a bid to drive traffic to their blogs. I have followed this story as well as that of the Doctor's wife who was unfortunately killed by her abductors. Let's be guided please. It will be very wrong to give out misleading information. One might assume all these happened in the North East, which doesn't make it better though, rather than making people understand how unsafe this country has become and how much evil is perpetrated in the North. |

MumuCountry: My guy, I am Ghanaian and I live in Ghana. Ghana’s per capital is less than $2,000? What was the figure a few years ago? You will agree that there has been significant improvement. I have my own business here in Ghana, and I am doing very well. Generally, the economy is doing great, growing at more than 6%.
There are some factors you have to take into account in establishing whether things are getting better or not in Ghana. Do you know how much Ghanaians pay for a liter of petrol? Do you know how much Ghanaians pay for VAT? Even electricity charges in Ghana are far higher than in Nigeria. But we make these sacrifices expecting the government to deliver on providing the environment for Ghanaians to thrive economically.
Today, the government provides free education to Ghanaians from primary to secondary. The government even feeds them, clothes them and provide some basic needs of pupils. There are tangible improvements in living standards. It is very slow, but at least the country is making progress.
Life is difficult in most parts of the world. I travel a lot and I have come to realize that life can very tough in countries that are supposedly very rich, if you are not gainfully employed. The challenge for African states is therefore empowering the people. If the people are working and earning good morning, nobody will complain. True, I agree with everything you have said. My point is that, it's quite erroneous to use the exchange rate of a currency to the dollar as an index for economic growth. There are factors that contribute to the value of a currency especially against the dollar i.e gdp, export/import volume, devaluation and inflation. One Ghana cedi exchanges for about $0.18 but is the purchasing power the same? A huge No...I wish Ghana all the best in the quest to improve their economy but the major focus shouldn't be on the exchange rate to the dollar but on how robust their economy is. If the value of export somehow equals that of import, the dollar will crash hugely. This is one area where Naira loses value the most. |

All this lie lie statistics. Ghana's Per Capita Income is less than $2000. They should focus on improving that. |

Reference: They are your representation in goverment. They are the only say you have, the only influence you have. They are your voice.
The Executive comes to goverment with ITS agenda. The Legislature comes to goverment with YOUR agenda so you better get learned and stop idolatry.
In every working Presidential or Parliamentary democracy citizens donot joke with or deride their Representatives. Weaken them and watch suffering dramatically rise by excess power given to the Executive.
Nigerians must learn how democracy works and how it can be made to work for them. I understand how the government institutions work but do you understand how government is run in Nigeria and how each institution interface? |

Racoon:
See the audacity with which these murderer & terrorists challenge everyone because they have backers in government.SW over to you guys. What say ya? You are really a right thinking person. This has been my exact sentiment since this Amotekun issue started. The North and Miyetti Allah have always said that the killer herdsmen are not Nigerians, the police have no strong response against them, infact if you are traveling through the southwest highways, once it's 4:30pm, you will not see any security personnel on the road, you are strictly on your own. In that case, why are the Northerners so opposed to Amotekun and why is Miyetti Allah jittery about it too? So, they are well aware of how Fulani herdsmen drive their cows to people's farms and villages, kill them if they protest, rape their woman and steal from them too...I hope the Yoruba people will develop some strong sense of reasoning from their experiences in the struggle for Amotekun. |

Most people who will feel sympathy for Maryam Sanda probably never know the real story. She is a murderer and with murder comes consequences. Call it anger, jealousy or pride, all that is immaterial right now. She has taken a life and the constitution is clear on matters like this. |
