They actually didn't need to win any state, just get 25% in majority of the states which they did, they even went above and beyond by winning some states in the North. The SW votes canceled out SS/SE votes hence the North was the true deciding factor. Now here's the crazy part, unless you want to argue that LP had more valid votes in the North than APC, you can clearly see that there was no way LP could have won this election.
