Politics / Re: Benue Government Yet To Take Any Loan - Governor Alia Counters The Punch by Ohibenemma(m): 7:12am On Apr 01 |
I'm happy that many of the current governing class are against unnecessary borrowing. When necessary, it's not a bad thing to borrow; but for many Governors, borrowing irresponsibly used to be the thing. Even worse was how they'd end up looting the borrowed funds for themselves and their cronies. 1 Like |

The thing is that some of these people didn't make their money through legit/honest means. So it's not in them to be generous to the truly needy. Haven't you seen how such will commit billions to a rich friend's political ambition without batting an eyelid, but can't help finance the education of a poor cousin's son? I'm not saying that's the case with the aforementioned, but... 8 Likes |

Oshiomhole has been a problem to the party since his successful 2 terms as Governor. This obsession with control will be his undoing at the end of it all. How one develops this tendency to want control by all means is mind boggling. Even if Dennis Idahosa emerges, who says they won't have issues in the nearest future? 3 Likes |

A day to the Primaries! There's something he's seeing that he ain't telling us... Meanwhile, I support Ernest AFOLABI UMAKHIHE. He's proven to be a developer, even as a civil servant; one can only wonder what he would achieve if granted Executive powers. Otherwise, I'd likely support a candidate from another party. All in all, it is well. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TV/Movies / Re: Blood Vessel: Ratings And Review by Ohibenemma(m): 10:16pm On Dec 11, 2023 |
To imagine that I've just finished watching the movie some minutes ago! Great movie! Thumbs up to the conception and production teams. The movie left me kinda confused after the first few scenes, but once it set off, I could only look forward to the next action with anticipation. With a majority of the story shot on a ship, I was apprehensive of a boring storyline (which, exactly, had been the case with a couple of foreign movies in similar settings I've previously seen); but not Blood Vessel. The suspense was topnotch and for long stretches, I could only hope for a positive outcome. In the typical home video, there's this apparent reluctance to kill off the actors, but not in BV. Whoever needed to die at any point was so easily shot off. Until the end, I somehow hoped the pretty Oyinbrakemi would somehow survive the carnage or resurrect mysteriously, but home video done dey change o! So Tekena is gone forever? May his soul rest in peace... 13 Likes |

One thing I like about the Israeli government is that they don't make threats and fail. They say what they intend to do and carry it to the letter, without any care for the opinions of others. No one tests their resolve without kwolletin. 113 Likes 12 Shares |

Going on strike is one thing; its impact is another. When we had it good and fairly stable, we accused the president of the day of being clueless. Now, it's all gone bad - almost rotten, and we've run out of adjectives to describe the current president. BTW, what magic made gas cheap, but for a few weeks? Politics / Re: Navy Set Up Operations Base To Protect N19 Trillion Investment In Lagos by Ohibenemma(m): 6:23am On Aug 19, 2023 |
All these show how favoured, both divine and temporal, Lagos has been. All these show that the state of Lagos today isn't the result of any man (least BAT's) strategic thinking and planning. With the resources abundant in Lagos; with the massive investments by the Federal Government of our commonwealth in Lagos; with her strategic positioning, a truly strategic thinker would have taken Lagos to much greater heights than her current state. But alas! In true administrative terms, orderliness and quality of life, we still can't compare her to any of the major cities in Africa, not to talk of those outside the continent. We have already seen Fashola's rocket science claims about electricity generation blown out; we're currently witnessing Tinubu's acclaimed administrative sagacity being questioned by all and sundry... 6 Likes |

Crime / Re: UK-Based Nigerian Doctor Loses Custody Of 16-Year-Old Son For Flogging Him by Ohibenemma(m): 11:51am On Jul 27, 2023 |
I remember the story of a friend some years ago. His sister, who had lived in the UK for many years was having serious issues disciplining her son of about six/seven in the Nigerian way because of the UK laws. Well, she bottled up her feelings until the next visit to Nigeria for a very close loved one's burial. The boy was happy to accompany her to see grandma and others, not knowing his mum had other plans. The floodgates opened at the airport with an unending flow of slaps and knocks and what have you for the slightest mischief. The boy, thinking it was business as usual, had run to a uniformed policeman to report his mother's assault, but he got the shock of his life when the policeman lent the criminal a helping hand by twisting his ears before returning him to his mum. He'd spend the next three years in Nigeria with an aunt, only returning to the UK when there was sufficient proof of a changed behaviour. 16 Likes 1 Share |

It's obvious that those who grabbed power by mischief can't refrain from insulting the sensibilities of genuine voters by their irresponsible statements. After all, they think that they wouldn't need the latter to return to power should occasion call for it. 8 Likes 1 Share |

As a Nigerian, I'm rooting for Naija. BUT there WAS always this drabness about female football, no matter how competitive. There was this sort of tuning down in pace, physicality and intuitiveness that seemed to rub off the excitement for me. Maybe tis better now. It's been a while I last saw a female match. 3 Likes |

It's expected of him to so claim. I guess Messi would claim same about the MLS, but his fans wouldn't accuse him of jealousy. He spoke in response to an interview by journalists after losing to Celta Vigo. What did you expect him to say? That his opinion attracts so much reaction is more than sufficient proof of his brand potency. 4 Likes |
