CrimeMrs Jonathan Resigns by Oibrahim(op): 1:14pm On Nov 06, 2014
Yes, that was how I first saw the headline too
late Thursday October 23, 2014. Another
headline screamed at me, “Wife of President
Jonathan Resigns.” Well, that almost ruined
my evening and I had moderate heart
palpitations. I mean, of all the news you don’t
want to hear, that was right up there. Mrs
Patience Jonathan resigned?
It was only after I had gone through a few
lines of the ‘breaking news’ that I realised Mrs
Jonathan merely resigned her job as a
Permanent Secretary in the much discomfited
State of Bayelsa.
For those who might not be aware, since the
summer of 2012, Mrs Jonathan has doubled
as a Permanent Secretary (of Education, would
you believe!) down in Bayelsa. It is one of
those things that only happens in Nigeria; so
no real need to try and understand it now.
Anyway, apparently, the lady’s had enough of
whatever it was she was doing – or not doing
– and has packed that gig in. Presumably,
she wants to concentrate her considerable
energies on other things. Fair enough.
I don’t blame Mrs Jonathan. I’d have done
the same thing if I were in her shoes; what
with Valentine Day 2015 fast approaching.
That day, the Jonathans will be sharing more
than a large box of chocolate cake. The
President hasn’t put together a campaign
committee yet, not to talk of a proper
campaign team. Though the signs suggest
that the APC is getting ready to blow the
presidential contest, nevertheless, in Nigeria,
you do not take chances; you do not take
anything for granted. So I can understand
entirely why Mrs Jonathan would shift her
attention away from Bayelsa’s Ministry of
Education.
Furthermore, there’s the little matter of the
upcoming governorship tussles in Rivers and
Bayelsa states. I’m pretty sure Mrs Jonathan
would not want another Amaechi in either of
those states for a while as she seeks to
consolidate her godmama-hood for the
greater good.
Moreover, from a distance, Mrs Jonathan
doesn’t strike me as one to willingly give up a
largesse. So perhaps it is time for Governor
Dickson to start to worry. All very interesting.
We continue to ‘watch this space.’
But I have to admit my relief when I realised
that Mrs Jonathan had not resigned her post
as First and Second Lady (seriously, when was
the last time you heard of Hadjia Mrs Sambo?)
In those roles, Mrs Jonathan has provided all
of us invaluable social and psychological
service. This is not just about entertainment
value. It is more than that. It is not for
nothing that Nigerians were scored the
happiest people on earth. Mrs Jonathan’s
contribution in this respect has been
significant and continues to be greatly
appreciated. Her unique style and often times
intentional witticism does help a lot.
Nigeria is not an easy terrain. Look at what
the Super Eagles and brother Keshi have done
to us. There is NEPA, tipsy policemen, 419ers
and women wearing biker shorts as panties
just about everywhere you look. I tell you, it’s
not easy at all. So it is good to laugh every
now and again to keep hope alive and to
ensure one’s sanity. Our stand-up comedians
seem to have had it and are beginning to
recycle the same jokes. Also, regrettably, our
pastors seem to have put divine entertainment
on hold for the pursuit of other gods like
private jets, yachts, etc, etc. However, Mrs
Jonathan is still going strong and she keeps it
fresh. You have to appreciate that. In fact,
the lady spoils us. What more can a people
ask for?
You can see why I was petrified when I first
set eyes on those frightful headlines. So I am
very glad that Mrs Jonathan is still our First
Lady. Inshallah, she will continue to so be for
a very long time yet.
And for the records, it is not true that Mrs
Jonathan is being lined up as a possible
Permanent Secretary at the Federal level
having garnered much expertise and valuable
experience at the state level, and having
straightened out education in Bayelsa State.
Similarly, those shapeless rumours that she
resigned to put together an Aba-made, home-
grown dictionary are mildly exaggerated.
It only remains for our newspaper and online
Editors to please watch how they present news
to us. Some of those headlines are not good
for my heart…

CelebritiesChinese Embassy In Nigeria Denies Students Visa On Grounds Of Ebola by Oibrahim(op): 8:18pm On Oct 08, 2014
Chinese Embassy in
Nigeria denies students
visa on grounds of Ebola
The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has denied
visas to some students of Ekiti State
University on the grounds of Ebola despite
the World Health Organization declaring
Nigeria an Ebola free country.
The students were invited to participate in
ENACTUS 2014 (En trepreneurial Act ion Us),
an international competition of young
entrepreneurs involving 36 countries slated
for 22 - 24th of October 2014 in China in
which Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Egypt
are to represent Africa. But the Chinese
Embassy here refused to grant the student
visas to go to China.
The Ekiti State University students, who
were picked to represent Nigeria having
won the ENACTUS Promoted Innovation
Competition earlier in the year, have written
an open letter about the situation. Find it
after the cut...
REPRESENTATION OF NIGERIA AT THE
ENACTUS WORLD COMPETITION IN CHINA:
DISCRIMINATORY DENIAL OF VISA
BECAUSE OF EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE
We write to introduce ENACTUS
( Entrepreneurial Act ion Us ), an
international non-profit organization that
works with leaders in business and
educational Institutions to mobilize
university and polytechnic students to
make economic difference in their
communities while developing the skills to
become socially responsible business
leaders.
We are pleased to inform you that
Students of Ekiti State University are slated
to represent Nigeria this October in China
having won the ENACTUS Promoted
Innovation Competition earlier in the year.
It should be noted that our institution
along with over 40 others in Nigeria have
worked tirelessly to contribute positively to
the development of our dear nation Nigeria
through the ENACTUS (En trepreneurial
Act ion Us ) Platform by embarking on micro
economic impacting projects which has
improved the quality of life and standard of
living of people in our various communities
by stimulating economic demand for
locally produced products.
Annually, ENACTUS participating
institutions come together to share their
success stories and the institution with the
best innovation that meets all judging
criteria represents Nigeria at the
International competition which is hosted
at different countries. At these international
competitions, Nigeria has been duly
represented over the years as the leading
African country and most consistent top
five institution in the Final round of the
competition. As a matter of fact, Nigeria,
represented by Kaduna Polytechnic won the
Third position amongst 32 countries at the
international competition which was held in
Mexico October, 2013.
ENACTUS Ekiti State University is to
represent our dear nation Nigeria this
ENACTUS year on October 22nd -24 th, 2014
at Beijing, China. However, we have been
denied VISA by the Chinese Embassy to
participate at the competition due to the
incidence of the Ebola Virus in Nigeria this
year.
Your Excellency, it is our considered
opinion that this an act of international
discrimination which needs Your
Excellency'surgent attention and
intervention. The concerted effort of both
the Nigerian Government and her citizens
in overcoming the scourge of the dreaded
Ebola virus should be praised by the
international community rather than it
being an excuse for any country that has a
strong bilateral relationship and economic
ties tothe Federal Government of Nigeria to
prevent or deny citizens of this great nation
theopportunity to promote our innovation
and competitiveness in the global stage.
We believe that this denial is not only
experienced by ENACTUS Ekiti State
University but also so many Nigerian
citizens travelling to China at this time, we
make to the recent International youth
Olympics where the Nigerian contingent
were isolated thus causing the Hon.
Minister for Sports into recalling the
contingent back home. We therefore believe
that if this trend is not nipped in the bud,
Nigeria may soon become pariah state
amongst the comity of nations starting the
Chinese.
We hereby seek Your Excellency's to lend a
strong voice and action of Support to tell
the world in very loud and clear voice that
Nigeria is Ebola Free through the ENACTUS
EKSU Move tagged "Nigeria is Ebola Free"
to give every Nigerian access to his / her
right and freedom of association without
intimidation and stigmatization at the
International level.
In view of the above, we have initiated a
social media campaign #NGIsEbolaFree
and we plan to spread this message
through the social media space to gain
international attention.
Please accept the appreciation of our
highest regards as we look forward to a
quick resolution of the issues not only
because of our situation but to save
Nigeria's image.
Yours Sincerely.
PhonesHow To Use The New Android Remote Lock Option by Oibrahim(op): 10:53pm On Nov 29, 2013
» How To Use The New Android Remote Lock Option < Earlier in September, an update to the Google Settings app for Android tipped off that a remote device lock and password reset feature was on its way to the Android Device Manager.
On Monday, the service finally went live for most users through the ADM Website. Previously, the ADM would only let you ring a misplaced device or do a remote wipe if you lost your handset or it fell into the wrong hands.
The addition of remote password reset and screen lock brings ADM ever closer to the features Apple offers with Find My iPhone. Overall, ADM's remote lock feature worked very well and incredibly quickly.
Once you enter a new lock device password online, the data is immediately sent to your Android device and will override any current pass codes on your smartphone or tablet. If your handset's home screen is visible, the display shuts down. Once you turn the screen back on, your device is locked and will require the new password to open up again.
To use the new features, you have to make sure your device is running Android 2.2 or later and authorize remote lock and wipe on your device. If you haven't done this yet, open the Google Settings app, tap on Android Device Manager at the bottom of the screen, and then tap the check box next to "Allow remote lock and factory reset."

ADM first rolled out with remote alert and wipe features in early August filling in a gap long occupied by several third-party solutions such as Lookout Security and Antivirus and Total Defense Mobile Security.
Popular third-party custom Android ROM CyanogenMod is also working on its own ADM-like solution drop ur comment
