TKM-Ebola, a drug developed by Tekmira Pharmaceuticals Corp. has been approved by U.S. regulators. The Food and Drug Administration had previously put tests of the drug on hold. The Vancouver-based company said yesterday that the agency altered the therapy’s status to possibly allow its use in those infected with the virus that has killed 932 people in West Africa since March http://www.ecruzi.com/ebola-outbreak-us-regulator-approves-drug-for-human-treatment/ |
Angered FG acceeding to 24 points raised by NMA. JOHESU has decided to call its members in the nation's public hospitals off work... 'double wahala for ....bodies' Ebola and Health workers, nobody wanna die. www.medicalworldnigeria.com/2014/08/joint-health-sector-unions-johesu-issues-two-weeks-ultimatum-as-government-accedes-to-nma-24-commandments/#.U-SLRV2t-o8 for details His Excellency, Sen. Anyim pius Anyim Secretary to the government of the federation, Aguda House, Abuja Your Excellency, Inclusive Labour Relations - Essential for Public Health care Delivery We bring you good tidings and continue to wish your excellency the vvery best as you tackle various challenges in the task of nation building. Recent developments, with regards to the health sector, compel us to reach out to you again, as they pose a danger to the necessary stability for qualifity public health care delivery. www.medicalworldnigeria.com The Joint health sector unions have continued to observe and appraise governments negotiations with the striking doctors under the aegis of the NMA. Ordinaritly, in line with existing labour laws, the NMA, a professional association of doctors is certainly not a legitimate platform to negotiate conditions of service of its members. We have on numerous occasions drawn the attention of the federal government to this reality in addition to a court judgement on same by the national industrial court of nigeria, enugu, unfortunatley though, Governments continued negotiations with NMA has confirmed that the government has found it convenient to sacrifce the interet of other health professionals and the rule of law yet again to favour the NMA. While the government gives the impression on one hand to JOHESU that some of our demands have been referred to the yayale ahmed presidential committee for mediation, government has actually gone ahead to accede to all the 24 comandments of the NMA, including issuing new circulars in june and july to ourtrightly jeopardize the MOU of june 5, 2014 as authenticated by our team and that of government. Specifically, we put on record that government has outrightly compromised the welfare of our members and the promotion of harmonoius industrial relations and peace in the health sector in the reflected areas: 1) That appointments into the position of deputy chairman - Medical advisory committe (DCMAC) will continue. This is despite the fact that the enabling act setting up teaching hospitals in Nigeia has no provision for this position, making such appointment outrightly illegal. 2) Government has agreed with NMA that health workers will no longer be allowed to get to the apex of their careers in the public service as provided for in their schemes of service to satisfy the ego trip of nigeria doctors. 3) An approval of the skipping of CONMESS 3 by doctors amounts to a violation in the relativity of the CONHESS and CONMESS Scales. This relativity should remain sacrosant in the spirit of the 2009 collective barganing agrement. www.medicalworldnigeria.com 4) Tragically, and in what is certainly a climax of the absurd, government has again traded away the rights of all health workers, other than doctors, to be designated consultants in their areas of competence through a new circular that now provides unholy clauses that read inter alia "the designation of consultants should only be used for personnel with qualifications registrable with the medical and dental council of nigeria" MH/PM 138/Vol.111/83 18th july 2014. It is ridiculous that consultancy status approved for health care providers will be at the whims and caprices of MDCN, an agency that regulates only doctors. 5) Government contunues to dilly dally on the payment of arrears of our members, following approval of adjustments on the CONHESS Scale as approved since jan 2014, while it has now come with specific action plan for payment of doctors 6) The distateful withdrawal of the CBN circular on the importation of invitro diagnostic, on the prompting of NMA, gives the impression that government will never stop treating the welfare of other healthworkers with disdain as NMA and its members continue to enjoy a free reign in dictating the latitudes and dimensions the interest of its members can be regulated in the health sector. 7) Government policy now compels a formal training at the expense of the federal government, exclusimedicalworldnigeria.comvely for resident doctors in a multidisciplinary sector, where a plethora of care providers are burdened with training and manpower development at their own costs. Attempts by government to formally restrict appointments of CMD/CMACs to only doctors while deceiving the joing healht sector unions that the matter had been refered to the yayale ahmed presidential panel for mediation |

Boko Haram sect has adopted the Palestinian model of Jihadism in its usage of young girls as suicide bombers on buses and crowded places, a source close to the sect tells 247ureports. It was learnt that Boko Haram has also gone into a partnership with leaders of Hezbollah to help recruit and train young innocent girls as potential suicide bombers for use in parts of northern Nigeria. The partnership between the Middle Eastern Jihadist group and the Nigerian Jihadist group reportedly have resulted in the successful recruitment and training of over 177 young girls under the ages of 15. The source continued to reveal that out of the 177 suicide bombers, 75 were already in Nigeria to execute suicide missions in three northern States of Katsina, Kano and the Federal Capital Territory [FCT], Abuja. The types of attacks, the source indicates would not take the shape of attacks that the Nigerian security authorities are used to, or would anticipate. “The year will end as the year of Boko Haram” says the source as he tried to emphasize on the preparedness of the Islamic Jihadist group in unraveling the polity before the campaigns for 2015. The source who claims to have full access to the Islamist group explained that the group has become highly tuned into the politics of Nigeria in the sense that it intends to shape the outcome of the presidential elections in 2015 to favor a Muslim candidate. He explained that the attack on Malam [General] Buhari was largely part of the 2015 equation. He explained that their preferred candidate for the office of the presidency was the person of General Buhari. But Buhari’s recent and sudden criticism of the Islamic group angered the group immensely because, according to the group, Buhari’s credibility within the north may add a big bite towards discrediting the Boko Haram in the north. The source notes that the Boko Haram group perceives themselves as well accepted by the ‘core’ Islamic north. For this reason, criticism coming from a person in the stature of Malam Buhari may cause many within the core Islamic north to back away from secretly supporting Boko Haram. The Islamic group did not want Buhari criticisms to continue to become his campaign mantra for 2015. |
The Belgian has returned to Goodison Park permanently, where he scored 15 league goals on loan from Chelsea last term, after falling further down the Stamford Bridge pecking order Jul 30, 2014 20:55:00 Everton have completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea on a five- year deal for a fee of £28 million (€35m). The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park, scoring 15 Premier League goals, and has now made his move permanent after not featuring in Blues boss Jose Mourinho's plans for the new campaign. Everton made a breakthrough in agreeing terms on a deal for the Belgium international - a fee that eclipses the previous €19m club- record signing of Marouane Fellaini. Lukaku, who enjoyed an extended break after his World Cup exploits with Belgium, was thought to be keen to be reunited with Roberto Martinez, under whom he flourished last term. And, upon completing his move, he told Everton's official website: "I am really excited about rejoining Everton. I had a fantastic experience last season and a great relationship with the manager, the chairman, the staff, the players and the fans. "I can't wait to get started again and I'm looking forward to a successful season." Manager Martinez added: "Welcoming Romelu Lukaku back to Everton on a permanent basis is the news that all Evertonians wanted to hear. A man has been tested for Ebola in Birmingham and another has visited a UK hospital over fears he was showing symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus. The checks come after the Government’s chief scientist warned that deadly diseases such as Ebola are a “potentially major threat” to Britain following the death of an American man who was able to travel through an international hub. A man, who had travelled from Benin in Nigeria via Paris to the Midlands was taken to hospital in Birmingham on Monday after he said he felt feverish. He was given the all clear, as was a second man in his twenties who went to Charing Cross Hospital in London this week, the Sun reported. His symptoms were confirmed as not being linked to the bug and doctors ruled out the need for an Ebola test. The Department for Health confirmed the Birmingham incident. A spokesman added: “We’re well prepared to identifyand deal with any potential cases, though there has never been a case in this country.” The disease, which can be fatal for up to 90 per cent of infected victims, has already killed almost 700 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Doctors in Britain have been put on alert to watch out for signs of the disease as officials said the disease was “clearly not under control.” However Professor Jeremy Farrar said we are “not in grave danger of a global epidemic.” “What we are in danger of is this spreading much further across Africa,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. “I don’t think closing borders and restricting travel will have much of an impact.” Prof Farrar said he would not avoid travelling to the infected countries in Africa but said he felt there needed to be more education about the disease so people in these countries had the confidence to come forward if they had symptoms. “I hope that at some point in the future we will have vaccines and drugs but these will not be available in the very near future. “In the short term it will be about infection control.” Sir Mark Walport, the government’s Chief Scientific Advisor, has told the Telegraph that the increasingly ‘interconnected’ world was placing Britons at risk. Sheik Umar Jhan, the doctor leading Sierra Leone’s fight against the virus died of Ebola on Tuesday. Doctors in Britain have been put on alert to watch out for signs of the disease as officials said the disease was “clearly not under control.” |
General Overseer of God of Champion Royal Assembly, Abuja, Brother Joshua Iginla, has prophesied that a lower rank officer of the Nigerian Army will shoot Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, before arresting him. According to The Sun, Iginla reminded members of his congregation of an earlier prophecy he gave about the Nigerian Air Force helicopter that crashed in the Southern part of Bama, Borno State, wherein he prophesied that there would be survivors three months ago. The Abuja-based cleric also called on the country’s security apparatus to tighten security in the nation’s capital between today and Wednesday. He said, “I hear the sound of bomb in the city and I call on security agencies to tighten security in Abuja between Monday and Wednesday”. He also predicted that a private jet carrying some governors, who are opposed to certain decisions in the country, would crash. “I have warned them through my broadcast on Champions Television and I have tried to reach out to those I saw in my prediction. “It is going to happen soon and nobody should blame anybody for it. It is either they retreat from that meeting they want to attend or they will perish”. On the 2015 general elections, Ignila said he saw President Goodluck Jonathan retaining his seat. “It is not winning the election that is the issue, but the problem that would emerge after the election. It will make the present insecurity in the country a child’s play”, Iginla added. |

The protest that was held outside the palace of the Emir of Kano shortly after a courtesy call on the on the monarch, attracted hundreds of youths believed to be students drawn from tertiary institution in Kano. Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, appealed for calm and enjoins the youth to imbibe the lesson of peace in their entire endeavour considering the critical role they play in nation building. Sanusi II told the protesting youths during a courtesy call on him that “it is only natural that people of different and divergent culture to live in one entity as a nation, and I enjoin you people to imbibe the lesson of peace considering your role in nation development”. The youth carrying placard with inscription that support the dissolution of the country hold a rally outside the palace and was addressed by the Secretary General of the Group, Comrade Alfred Solomon who decaalred that their stand was informed by what he called “continued intimidation of Northerners by the federal Government.” Some of the placard bore the message “Hold your petro dollars, let everyone goes his direction”, Southerners are not welcome here in the north”, Southerners must Go, Shegu” Nigeria belong to all of us not militants” we say no to Northern identification in southern Nigeria”. Other messages on the placards also reads “Southerners are militants, kidnappers/ rituals, armed robbers, drug pushers, terrorists, sons/daughters are products of baby factory”. A prepared speech jointly signed by National President and Secretary General, Barrister Aliyu M Usman, and Alfred Solomon respectively but read by the Secretary General during the protest urged northerners to “rise and support agitation for peaceful dissolution of this union called Nigeria for every region to go its own way.” Alfred directed that “we urged all artisans, students, public and private sector servants , traders business holders currently operating , residing or intending to do so in any part of Nigeria to relocate back home within the next two weeks” Alfred Solomon in the same vein further advised non Northerners residing in any part of the northern Nigeria to relocate to their various regins of origin within two weeks to make room for accommodating our northern brothers who would be returning home. Solomon noted that the “measure would bring an end to the mutual suspicion that is presently causing some southern states to demand Northerners to obtain resident permits and perhaps any similar action that may arise from northern state Government as a consequence”. The rally that was originally schedule to criss cross designated streets in Kano was cancelled while no reason was given also by the organizers for canceling of visit to the Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at the Government House. |

Chief Femi Falana (SAN) has reminded delegates at the ongoing National Conference that Nigeria was in trouble as the demand for Nigerian oil by foreign countries continues to drop . The human rights lawyer , who is also a delegate at the conference noted that there was an increase in the oil production of some countries like Angola . Other countries like Kenya and Uganda have also found oil and are planning to go into commercial production. “The government of Nigeria has fallen into problems as regards getting buyers for our oil . As of today the united states of america has stopped buying our oil because it has got an alternative and before now the total import for the U . S was about 10 % of fuel imported to the U . S . Most West African countries have struck oil . Angola has increased its production , we believe that the crisis in Libya and Iraq would cause problems with respect to oil production and it has proved to be true and as a matter of fact the crisis has stopped oil production . “And presently Europe is experiencing oil blocks and India that we have been pleading with to buy our oil is now turning to china Russia and Indonesia . Currently President Putin is going round the world assuring more countries that they are going to give them oil and gas . Currently Nigeria is in trouble. So when we are talking of sharing we need to take this into cognizance that there will be nobody to buy our oil , ” he stated . |

The ongoing strike by the Nigeria Medical Association will soon be over as talks are ongoing between the Federal Government and the association to put an end to this action that has led to untold sufferings of patients across the nation. This was revealed on Friday at the Government House, Asaba, by the Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, during an interview session with newsmen. Dr Uduaghan revealed that a meeting of some elders of the medical profession and Government representatives held in Abuja on Thursday night. He gave assurance that some of the pressing issues were addressed and resolved at the meeting and by the end of the week, the strike would be called off. Present at the meeting were the Delta State Governor; the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa; Dr Doyin Okupe, the Health Minister, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu; Minister for Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr Anyim Pius Anyim and members of the medical association. Governor Uduaghan, while admitting that there were indeed challenges in the health sector, urged medical professionals to be weary of strike which does more harm than good, because every life lost during the period of strike cannot be brought back. The Federal Government has also corroborated the claim by saying that the nationwide doctors’ strike may be called off next Monday, following the Thursday meeting between the leadership of the NMA and representatives of Government. The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the end of the 10-hour meeting between the two parties http://www.medicalworldnigeria.com/2014/07/nma-and-fg-sign-memorandum-of-understanding-minister-of-health/#.U7ckTkikrFo |
