Wait, I never knew rent was exempted from tax. When I added rent to place for rent, the tax value actually reduced compared to when I did the calculation without rent.

For me, it is Fidelity that made the most movement within a 2 year period.

If you meniton GTB you should also mention Zenith in same breath since they have a very high correlation.

Joyful365:
Stanbic is amongst the lowest with 15+ billion outstanding shares. The rest are running wild with their share issuance:

First bank - 41+ billion
Fcmb - 39+ billion with another 10 billion in the pipeline
UBA - 44+ billion
GTCO - 32+ billion
Access Bank - 53+ billion
Zenith - 41+ billion
Fidelity - 50+ billion

The only good thing about the banks with huge OS is that they're good for trading as they're highly liquid.

In terms of holding for capital appreciation, aside GTCO, you're better off looking elsewhere.

If anyone wants to learn from my experience, I will suggest that the person should not sell. Like I said in a previous post, I sold at 2k+ and was feeling fly, but see where it is today. That stock from my own little observations only does pull backs, almost never declines, why it does not seem to draw too much attention is that it's climb is usually under the radar, almost unnoticed.

Another good reason to keep it, at least with the benefit of hindsight is that their dividends is at least 3 times a year. You just wake up one morning and see alert from them multiple times in one year.

Usual disclaimer: I cannot deny that this is a financial advice, but it is not a forced one. Everyone remains the CEO of his/her portfolio

LOL.... I have many similar experiences. Eg, I put small money then in prestige and a lot more on MTN, prestige did 100%, MTN lag for a long time playing between 175 and 195 before eventually moving to around 245 much later. Even dipped to around 216 before this present rally to 400+.

My learning so far is yearning towards good stocks that were idle for a while or had bad patches eg NB. That one has done 100% in a far less time frame for me.

The firm itself will tell you how to fund them. Most international organizations even schools have very strict methods of accepting money. Even though they want to expand, they still want to ensure the money is clean.

Check if they accept wise, if they do then you can create an account on wise and I think that will be a good and flexible way to fund.

Next question after that should be how do you receive your money when you sell, but first check if they accept wise so we can know what next step you can take.

Note, all of the above is based on the assumption that you stay in Nigeria.

You call Seplat a trap? A stock you should be thanking God for?

I bought at around 384 naira, sold at around 2k+, was feeling fly like a guru only to see it climbing up to this 5k+.

The affolabi unit of around 36k purchase amount is showing as 500k+ if I were to sell today, you can imagine what the worth of the full stock would have been if I had left it.

And from this 36k worth of shares, I got 17k dividends this year, that is around 50% ROI on the 36K worth of investment I left behind.

It is the reason I was considering enter Aradel, since they seem to be the an alternative to Seplat, but I want to be sure they are not at their peak yet.

Majority of the tax avoidance techniques you have listed here work more in the US than anywhere else in the world, particularly Nigeria. I am not too sure our tax agency care that much about business expense so trying to make a personal expense become a business expense may not fly.
Mankind2024:
The Federal Government of Nigeria kept to its promise that there would be a new undertaker in the country(NRS). The undertaker was proposed to take the wealth of the rich for the poor. In the whole universe, the rich are not known to be victims of tax undertakers. They devise several legal means of rendering the tax undertakers powerless; in the end, the poor are the real victims of tax undertakers(NRS)

What NSEMPA forum investors must do to render the new undertaker(NRS) a toothless bulldog:

1. Be a sole proprietor; register your business.
2. Borrow to invest; use your portfolio as collateral at a great bargain. No one pays tax on borrowed funds.
3. As the CEO (the Tony Elumelu of your company), the business takes care of you and your family's day-to-day expenditures, including business retreats to Rwanda and London. Same way our resources take care of the politicians and all goverment workers.
4. Any good thing you see in any well-furnished bank or government office also qualifies to be in your business office and home by virtue of being a director.
5. Consider an offshore current account in the Isle of Jersey for a family investment corporation; this would grant you access to all the free brokers in the US. An alternative to this is citizenship by investment in selected overseas countries. This would counter their Panama choice, since Nigerian pastors and politicians and Panama are numbers 5, 6, and 7.
6. As a director, all your family members' responsibilities and those over 18 years are qualified for non-taxable minimum wage.
7. A company accountant or bookkeeper is necessary for documenting all expenditures.
8. A small room in your house is needed for the purpose of transferring all domestic expenditures to the registered business. As a matter of fact, the registered business address should be your house. No more electricity bills, petrol, or diesel for running generators from your pocket.
9. At the end of the day, the new tax undertaker(NRS) would need to refund you year in and year out since you are only expected to pay tax after profit. Directors earn zero salary; only non-taxable allowances.
10. Finally, year 1: capital loss; year 2: VAT refunds from all brokerage commissions, purchases and bank charges. Yes, here we come. The undertaker is effectively buried.☠️💀😵

Nice one.
This is why data is very important. Before now, my perking order has always been South or North, then East if push comes to shove and West only if you are interested in getting the last lap of the sun's journey.

Your Calculation from this data seems to be proving otherwise

jmaine:
Yes, I did... Both the North and South facing Panels had marked drops in output in specific parts of the year, approximately 5-6 months annually, when compared to the West facing ones.

From the annual data below: The west panels came a close second with a 2.4% lesser yield than the south-facing panel.
Annual Sum for Each Region:
WEST: 2025.04
SOUTH: 2074.30
NORTH: 1913.00
EAST: 1973.08

Furthermore, the rainy season, which was your major concern, the North panels (964.99) had just a little advantage over the West panel (955). See data below:
Estimates from April - September:
WEST: 955.82
SOUTH: 903.80
NORTH: 964.99
EAST: 917.61

Invariably, the data shows that South and West-facing panels will have better yield than the North or East facing panel all year round.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 3:17pm On Jun 11, 2025
Are you sure you got that info from the same data? The only months it seems more, you will notice that the difference is not much compared to the months where it is not high
jmaine:
Thanks for this data. So much to harvest from there... I am not surprised that the west-facing panels posted great results, especially in the rainy season, based on my personal observation....

Appears a southwest-facing panel could be a best of both worlds... Especially for southwestern inhabitants in Nigeria...
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 3:40pm On Jun 10, 2025
I was hoping we could tap from your own practical data, however, the data you provided here seems to support that the months during which we have lots of rain May-Sept benefit from the North facing panels, I am surprise to see that the west facing ones are not that far behind.

The difference during the dry season when the South produce more is greater than during the raining season when the North produces more.

Interesting

lexi28:
I once undertook to extract data from the PVGIS website, to show a client why the south face was overall the best orientation to place the panels. The data represents conservative averages over 2005-2020 for hourly PV production per 1kw. The data is for ILORIN particularly, I assume the data will vary for other locations due to unique sun path at each location.
MONTH: ORIENTATION WITH HIGHEST PV OUTPUT/KW
JAN : SOUTH
FEB: SOUTH
MAR: SOUTH
APR: FLAT
MAY: NORTH
JUN: NORTH
JUL: NORTH
AUG: WEST
SEP: WEST
OCT: SOUTH
NOV: SOUTH
DEC : SOUTH

Practical results may vary.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojesymsym: 11:15am On Jun 10, 2025
Glad to finally see someone who has panels facing both North and South.

There is a school of thought that believes that the position of the sun during the raining season favors solar panels that are facing the North, if you haven't already compared the output of both panels (you can use ratios if there are of different capacity), would you be kind enough to do run the average output data over a period?

GloryJoyeux:
@ mctfopt

Hi,

See the picture of this particular mount, ignore the pv I scribbled out, these 6 visible panels are the JA solar mount facing north.

Edit: For transparency, I’ve included the picture without the scribbled panels to show they are different panels, those are jinkos and part of the south facing string.

I have pv input on other mppt strings facing south (not visible in the picture).

Our experience with Scanfrost seem similar, because i also bought around 2011 and started leaking around 2022/23. Since the compressor was still working, sold it to someone who did not mind making the freezer a surface piping.

However, I do know if it was the one I bought or it is a scanfrost thing. Even though it took a short time for the freezer to freeze, it also did not take too long to defrost. In short, you could have a stone block freezer after say 2 days of power but if there was no power for one full day, by the end of that day you would almost not believe it was same freezer that was stone block just yesterday. Since you speak so well of it, I am assuming that was not your own experience.
omotoda:
Did I mention that in the 12 years I never did a single repair until 2023 when internal leakage occured and it was not cooling well.I was told it has internal leakge and was advised to change the internal piping but decided to buy a new one.It is still sitting somehwere in my house to be sold as scrap when I have the time.

How does Aradel compare with Seplat in terms of pricing?

I know Aradel is selling at a tenth of the cost of Seplat but does it mean that it has a value that is also around 1/10 of Seplat?

I watched Seplat move from around 367 to 5000+, does Aradel have the potential for that kind of movement or it is already at that peak?

Technically, they are now rivals since they both own refineries. Before now NNPC PLC was more or less a regulator and probably could have done what you are suggesting if they had remained that way.

Also, I am not sure where people got the news that DR will no longer sell PMS to Nigeria again, my understanding of it is that without the direct Crude to Naira swap, he will start factoring in the price with which he gets his fuel from whatever source and use that to fix his price.
