When Imo State wanted to build an Airport through public donations, he was amongst the largest contributors . Chief Iwuanyanwu fought in the Biafran war on the side of his people and was at one time head of the Biafran Army Engineers corpse. He continued his career as an Engineer after the war, founding a construction company called Hardel constructions. Iwuanyanwus business empire would grow to over 20 different companies

He aspired three times to be Presidential nominee of various political parties, including PDP, but failed. He remained a Chieftain of PDP for many years. When he retired from politics 3 years ago, he was beckoned to become Ohanaeze President after the sudden death of the incumbent President, Prof George Obiozor. Chief Iwuanyanwu passed away three days ago after a brief illness, aged 82
