Anita Odegwa Oyakhilome and Chris Oyakhilome, flamboyant pastor and founder of Christ Embassy Church have now finally gone their separate ways, with a seal of a Family court in the United Kingdom. The court in High Holborn, London, granted Anita’s divorce wishes based on the unreasonable behaviour and marital infidelity of her former husband, Chris. The divorce was granted 8 February. Anita’s lawyers, Attwaters Jameson Hill Solicitors, announced the break up on their website thus: “We have been requested by Anita Oyakhilome to confirm that on the 8th February 2016 a decree absolute was pronounced in the High Court of Justice Principal Registry of the Family Division dissolving her marriage to Christian Onehirokpeana Oyakhilome. “Anita Oyakhilome would like to confirm that she is no longer involved in or part of Christ Embassy AKA Believers Loveworld inc.”Anita’s divorce statement. The divorce was filed by Anita on 9 April 2014 on the grounds of “adultery” and “unreasonable behaviours”. The case was marked No FD14D01650.After months of keeping the matter out of public domain, a Nigerian online medium, The Cable, brought it back to public consciousness on 29 August. The medium said, apart from “adultery” and “unreasonable behaviours,” Anita cited as grounds for seeking to end her marriage to Oyakhilome, other allegations in the divorce suit are too damning to be reported without inviting the services of lawyers. The embarrassed church reacted two days after by deleting Anita’s pictures and personal information from its official website,www.christembassy.org. Anita was supposed to be the Vice-president of the church.Signs that all was not well between Chris and Anita emerged in May 2014. In a post on a Facebook account opened by Anita’s supporters with title, ‘Where is Rev. Anita Oyakhilome?’, Oyakhilome was quoted as saying that his marriage was hitting the rocks and the end was imminent. The post purported to be the summary of Pastor Chris’ speech with United Kingdom-based pastors and deacons of Christ Embassy at the Bermondsey branch of the church on 16 May stated that, “I am here for your concerns about the ongoing domestic issue with my wife and I know it affects you directly, being the ones under her leadership.” READ: Oyakhilome Removes Wife’s Name, Photo From Publication He allegedly asked the pastors not disposed to the developments in the church to quit. He was quoted as saying, “You don’t join a woman to fight her husband. Bitterness is prolonged and accumulated anger. My wife is always angry and bitter. Some pastors’ wives think when they marry a pastor, they are equal to the pastor. My wife thinks so. As a matter of fact, Rev. Tom was her pastor before I married her and Rev. Ray and Evang. Owase were her leaders long before I married her. How come she thinks she’s senior to them now? I already started Christ Embassy before I married her. I didn’t marry her and said we should start Christ Embassy. I was already ‘pastoring.’ I already set my sail and knew my direction before I married her. I only said ‘come and help me. Be careful of the friends you keep. My wife keeps friends who bring out the worst in her and help her see the worst in people, instead of keeping friends that will help her vision, especially as the wife of a global pastor like me.” The couple’s marriage, two decades ago, produced two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/02/18/its-over-oyakhilome-anita-divorce-in-uk-court/

Lassa fever or Lassa hemorrhagic fever ( LHF ) is an acute viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus and first described in 1969 in the town of Lassa, in Borno State , Nigeria. [1] Lassa fever is a member of the Arenaviridae virus family. Similar to ebola, [2] clinical cases of the disease had been known for over a decade, but had not been connected with a viral pathogen. Lassa frequently infects people in West Africa. It results in 300,000 to 500,000 cases annually and causes about 5,000 deaths each year. [3] Outbreaks of the disease have been observed in Nigeria , Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea , and the Central African Republic . The primary animal host of the Lassa virus is the Natal multimammate mouse ( Mastomys natalensis), an animal found in most of sub-Saharan Africa. [4] The virus is probably transmitted by contact with the feces or urine of animals accessing grain stores in residences. [4] Given its high rate of incidence, Lassa fever is a major problem in affected countries. [5][6] Signs and symptoms In 80% of cases, the disease is asymptomatic , but in the remaining 20%, it takes a complicated course. The virus is estimated to be responsible for about 5,000 deaths annually. The fever accounts for up to one-third of deaths in hospitals within the affected regions and 10 to 16% of total cases. [7] After an incubation period of six to 21 days, an acute illness with multiorgan involvement develops. Nonspecific symptoms include fever, facial swelling, and muscle fatigue, as well as conjunctivitis and mucosal bleeding. The other symptoms arising from the affected organs are: Gastrointestinal tract Nausea Vomiting (bloody) Diarrhea (bloody) Stomach ache Constipation Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) Hepatitis Cardiovascular system Pericarditis Hypertension Hypotension Tachycardia (abnormally high heart rate) Respiratory tract Cough Chest pain Dyspnoea Pharyngitis Pleuritis Nervous system Encephalitis Meningitis Unilateral or bilateral hearing deficit Seizures Clinically, Lassa fever infections are difficult to distinguish from other viral hemorrhagic fevers such as Ebola and Marburg , and from more common febrile illnesses such as malaria. The virus is excreted in urine for 3-9 weeks and in semen for three months. Cause Mastomys natalensis, the natural reservoir of the Lassa fever virus Lassa virus is zoonotic (transmitted from animals), in that it spreads to humans from rodents, specifically multimammate mice ( Mastomys natalensis). [8] This is probably the most common mouse in equatorial Africa, ubiquitous in human households and eaten as a delicacy in some areas. [8] In these rodents, infection is in a persistent asymptomatic state. The virus is shed in their excreta (urine and feces), which can be aerosolized. In fatal cases, Lassa fever is characterized by impaired or delayed cellular immunity leading to fulminant viremia . Infection in humans typically occurs by exposure to animal excrement through the respiratory or gastrointestinal tracts. Inhalation of tiny particles of infectious material (aerosol) is believed to be the most significant means of exposure. It is possible to acquire the infection through broken skin or mucous membranes that are directly exposed to infectious material. Transmission from person to person has also been established, presenting a disease risk for healthcare workers. Frequency of transmission by sexual contact has not been established. Diagnosis A range of laboratory investigations are performed to diagnose the disease and assess its course and complications. An ELISA test for antigen and IgM antibodies give 88% sensitivity and 90% specificity for the presence of the infection. Other laboratory findings in Lassa fever include lymphopenia (low white blood cell count), thrombocytopenia (low platelets), and elevated aspartate aminotransferase levels in the blood. Lassa fever virus can also be found in cerebrospinal fluid . [9] In West Africa, where Lassa is most prevalent, it is difficult for doctors to diagnose due to the absence of proper equipment to perform tests. [10] In cases with abdominal pain , diagnoses in countries where Lassa is endemic are often made for other illnesses, such as appendicitis and intussusception , delaying treatment with ribavirin. [11] Prevention Main article: Prevention of viral hemorrhagic fever Community education material for Lassa fever Control of the Mastomys rodent population is impractical, so measures are limited to keeping rodents out of homes and food supplies, as well as maintaining effective personal hygiene. Gloves, masks, laboratory coats, and goggles are advised while in contact with an infected person. These issues in many countries are monitored by a department of public health . In less developed countries, these types of organizations may not have the necessary means to effectively control outbreaks. Researchers at the USAMRIID facility, where military biologists study infectious diseases, have a promising vaccine candidate. [12] They have developed a replication-competent vaccine against Lassa virus based on recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus vectors expressing the Lassa virus glycoprotein. After a single intramuscular injection , test primates have survived lethal challenge, while showing no clinical symptoms. [13] Treatment All persons suspected of Lassa fever infection should be admitted to isolation facilities and their body fluids and excreta properly disposed of. Early and aggressive treatment using ribavirin was pioneered by Joe McCormick in 1979. After extensive testing, early administration was determined to be critical to success. Additionally, ribavirin is almost twice as effective when given intravenously as when taken by mouth. [14] Ribavirin is a prodrug which appears to interfere with viral replication by inhibiting RNA-dependent nucleic acid synthesis, although the precise mechanism of action is disputed. [15] The drug is relatively inexpensive, but the cost of the drug is still very high for many of those in West African states. Fluid replacement, blood transfusion, and fighting hypotension are usually required. Intravenous interferon therapy has also been used. [ citation needed] When Lassa fever infects pregnant women late in their third trimester, induction of delivery is necessary for the mother to have a good chance of survival. [16] This is because the virus has an affinity for the placenta and other highly vascular tissues. The fetus has only a one in ten chance of survival no matter what course of action is taken; hence, the focus is always on saving the life of the mother. [ citation needed] Following delivery, women should receive the same treatment as other Lassa fever patients. Work on a vaccine is continuing, with multiple approaches showing positive results in animal trials. [ citation needed] Prognosis About 15-20% of hospitalized Lassa fever patients will die from the illness. The overall mortality rate is estimated to be 1%, but during epidemics , mortality can climb as high as 50%. The mortality rate is greater than 80% when it occurs in pregnant women during their third trimester; fetal death also occurs in nearly all those cases. Abortion decreases the risk of death to the mother. [17] Some survivors experience lasting effects of the disease. [18] Because of treatment with ribavirin, fatality rates are continuing to decline. [ citation needed] Epidemiology The dissemination of the infection can be assessed by prevalence of antibodies to the virus in populations of: Sierra Leone - 8–52% Guinea - 4–55% Nigeria - about 21% Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic fever in West Africa. [10] Studies show up to half a million cases of Lassa fever per year in West Africa, with about 5,000 resulting in death. [19] Lassa virus was detected in 25 of 60 (42%) patients in northern and central Edo State. [20] The Lassa Virus affects adults and children alike. [20] While most humans are infected either from contact with an infected rat or inhalation of air contaminated with rat excretions, like other hemorrhagic fevers, Lassa fever can be transmitted directly from one human to another. It can be contracted through direct contact with infected human blood excretions and secretions, including through sexual contact. No evidence of airborne transmission person-to-person is seen. [21] Transmission through breast milk has also been observed. |
We found out exactly what happened when Jose Mourinho was betrayed a final time, and the tale is a familiar one. Michael Emenalo cut a fine figure as he walked onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge. Big stony eyes, an ancient face, dignified and refined features, he seemed more sculpture than man. His heaviness leant itself to the occasion. This weight burdened the crowd that bustled into the stadium. There were the usual murmurs and sounds that comes with many people being in one place, but their eyes were transfixed on the man striding to the center of the pitch. They watched him intently, with the fear and respect that a child watches for his father after he has done wrong. They were awaiting punishment. The shared guilt sat in with the audience, in the empty seats, by the stairs, it made its residence between the rapid heartbeats and silent conversations. Yet, no one could speak of the wrong that had been done. The dawn was arriving and the cool December air made Emenalo rub his hands together as he reached the center circle. He looked into the crowd, not expecting but anticipating the players to be situated in the front rows. He only saw but a few of them. The rest must have been with their families -- after all, they had been given the day off. The audience quieted as he scanned the Bridge for more notable faces to no avail. Maybe they were there in secret; hidden in the middle of thousands of people, leaning against the walls in the tunnel, or watching on the television from their homes. He could feel their presence. As he studied the environment, a ball-boy rushed to him. The ancient man lowered his heavy head and saw the boy, breathless and disheveled, holding out a microphone. He took the gift, smiled back at the child and the boy happy at this payment, ran back towards the tunnel. At that moment, he made a gesture with his right hand and the crowd, mesmerized, followed it. As the boy disappeared, a procession of eleven men carrying a slab of marble stone covered in a white sheet took his place. Leading them was a lone woman. She threw her curly-haired head back in song, looking beyond Emenalo, beyond the sky and the present, this lonesome time, as tears began to rim her golden eyes. The crowd stilled completely. Emenalo waited as the procession made its way to, around and then watched the men settle the stone behind him. He stood as the woman worked to the climax of the song before settling beside him. He showed no emotion. When all was done, the great man cleared his throat into the microphone. The crowd recoiled. He looked straight-forward, at nothing, at everything and began to speak: "Jose Mourinho has left the club by mutual consent!" He paused and invited the rumble of anger that resonated through the crowd. "It was a decision to protect the interests of the club. One point above relegation is not good enough, not for Chelsea Football Club, not for you. The club is in trouble and something needed to be done. A tough decision had to be made." He turned around to the large marble stone and ripped off the white sheet to reveal the body of the Special One. Cold, pale and still, it was unnerving to see such a man in this state. He had been silenced. Emenalo called upon all of his wits to keep his nerve. The crowd groaned louder. Emenalo stood taller than ever, his left hand holding the microphone and his right directed towards the old Portuguese. "When he returned, by our honor, we gave our word to support and fight for Mourinho with all of our strength. We swore to stand by his side and to rage against those who would fail to do the same." He leaned in to the body of Mourinho and whispered: "Forgive our failures old friend. Forgive us for our broken promises." He stepped away from the body and turned his gaze towards the crowd again. For a moment, he thought he saw the faces that he had searched for earlier and his blood began to boil. Boldness built up within his soul. "Mourinho loved Chelsea. And Chelsea loved her greatest ever manager but would not save him. There will be no repercussions for his demise, for the millions in wages paid to his traitors and ambitions of the club could not hold back the treachery. No matter the conditions set for a man, he will only go as far as his heart takes him." The curly-haired woman glanced up in silent warning but he would not meet her eye. The crowd made a low growl. He turned to the eleven men behind him and ordered them to lift the body up besides him. They exchanged worried looks between themselves, and they would have found the courage to refuse, to see through the performance of the ravenous man in front of them if he had not barked the order at them again, and if the crowd had not began to chant his words in unison. They lifted his body and brought it in front of Emenalo, who pitied and touched the body in regret. "Diego Costa struck the first blow ... here!" He said. He circled the hanging body and pressed his hand against its back. "Cesc Fabregas wounded him here, next to the first," he began to grit his teeth. "Nemanja Matic, carved out his piece of flesh ... here." Several of the eleven men looked at each other in horror before dropping the body and running out of the stadium. "Still Mourinho fought! Still he endured!" He held up the right arm of the body. "Gary Cahill made a cut here, a long gash." Then he crouched near it, grabbing the head and lifting it upon his knee so the crowd could see the victim clearly. They moaned. "John Terry sliced him here!" He made a slashing motion across the forehead before letting the head drop and bounce off the grass. The rage of the fans began to grow, they surged forward from their seats and began to jump over the railings to come closer to the body. "Mourinho tried his hardest, yet no one would stand for him. He was alone with these men, these players that he had given glory just a year ago. They abused him, and they would not so." He began to pant heavily. Wiping his forehead, he continued: "Branislav Ivanovic stabbed the Special One then, digging his dagger into his stomach." He turned the body flat on its back and the crowd now closer, saw the injury that he pushed open with his fingers. "The blood poured but still Mourinho went on. He was a man who believed in himself, one that pulled himself up from the depths of poverty to the apex of the football world. These men could not destroy him!" He began gasping for air, his vision blurred and exhaustion made him weak in limbs. The mass of people grew even closer, angry and wild but hypnotized by his words. "He saw Eden Hazard through the arms of his traitors. The man who he had defended countless times. The flamboyant winger who he had molded into a lethal playmaker and goalscorer. The one that he held above Cristiano Ronaldo. Mourinho saw his favorite player and for a moment, for a heartbeat, in the midst of this betrayal, he must have thought that he was saved. That he had a friend. He must have thought he would live." Tears came to his eyes then. He let them drip down his face. It was almost over. "He saw that Hazard carried a blade like the rest. His heart broke and he could then no longer fight." He brushed his hand across Mourinho's face again and pitied it. "Mou would not look at them after that. He laid there as Hazard approached and joined in at the tearing of his flesh and legacy. Perhaps he did not feel the final blade, we can never know." A great number of people in the circle began to weep, some wailed in pain as if each blow had cut into them as well. "And to think, Mourinho made many of these men what they are today, on this ground, between these blades of grass. They owe their lives, fortunes and fame to him. Yet they brought him down. He made himself the best manager in the world, and it did not save him." Emenalo raised his head when a lone voiced yelled out in the crowd. "Why should they continue on then?" He opened his mouth to reply, but countless voices shouting angry curses drowned him out. The question had sparked the wildfire in their hearts and the noise spread and grew until thousands of people began to move as one unit towards the main office for an answer. Their rage roared throughout all of England.

The Great Dictator is a 1940 American satirical political comedy-drama film written, directed, produced, scored by and starring Charlie Chaplin, following the tradition of many of his other films. Having been the only Hollywood film-maker to continue to make silent films well into the period of sound films, this was Chaplin's first true talking picture. Chaplin's film advanced a stirring, controversial condemnation of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, fascism, antisemitism, and the Nazis. At the time of its first release, the United States was still formally at peace with Nazi Germany. Chaplin plays both leading roles: a ruthless fascist dictator, and a persecuted Jewish barber. The Great Dictator was popular with audiences, becoming Chaplin's most commercially successful film. Modern critics have also praised it as a historically significant film and an important work of satire. The Great Dictator was nominated for five Academy Awards. The Great Dictator's Speech: I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone - if possible - Jew, Gentile - black man - white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness - not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate, has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.... The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men - cries out for universal brotherhood - for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world - millions of despairing men, women, and little children - victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me, I say - do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed - the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish. ..... Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes - men who despise you - enslave you - who regiment your lives - tell you what to do - what to think and what to feel! Who drill you - diet you - treat you like cattle, use you as cannon fodder. Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men - machine men with machine minds and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate - the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty! In the 17th Chapter of St Luke it is written: “the Kingdom of God is within man” - not one man nor a group of men, but in all men! In you! You, the people have the power - the power to create machines. The power to create happiness! You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power. But they lie! They do not fulfil that promise. They never will! Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people! Now let us fight to fulfil that promise! Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness. Soldiers! in the name of democracy, let us all unite |

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said October 31 remains the deadline for bank customers to obtain their Bank Verification Numbers. The Director, Banking and Payment System Department of CBN, Dipo Fatokun, re-affirmed this while speaking to journalists on Wednesday in Abuja. Mr. Fatokun said at the deadline, bank customers that had not enrolled for BVN would not be able to access their accounts. “Last week Friday the bankers communicated that there is no extension on the BVN. “If you have not registered go and register and of course submit your BVN to your bank, no extension on the deadline of October 31. “By November 1 if you don’t have a BVN you won’t be able to operate your account, but that does not mean that your money will be confiscated as some people have said. “No, what it means is that you should go and do your BVN, once you do your BVN and you link it to your account, you continue to operate your account.” The BVN is a unique identity number that can be verified across the Nigerian banking industry. It was inaugurated in February 2014 with the aim of protecting customers’ accounts from unauthorised access to reduce the incidence of theft and exposure to fraud.

Former governor of Bayelsa state, Timipre Sylva, has described Adams Oshiomhole, as a liar for claiming that he scuttled and manipulated the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa. Sylva accused Oshiomhole of coming to the venue of the election with an agenda to frustrate him and make sure he does not win at all cost. The former governor also blamed the governor of Edo state for coming to late for the election and heating things up by seeming partial. He said: “First, on his request, the primary was shifted from its earlier date of Saturday, September 19 to the Tuesday, September 22 date. The grouse of the delegates was that the primaries had been shifted once on Oshiomhole’s request. That shift caused enough hardship already. The ‘comrade’ was again shifting the goal post, without giving consideration to these hapless delegates. It was that frustration that we were managing. It is so sad that the governor did not appreciate our effort.” “Second, as chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Oshiomhole knew full well that accreditation of delegates was to begin at 8am on Tuesday, September 22, but he came to the venue of the programme well past 12 noon. After he arrived at that late hour, he proceeded with a meeting with the committee members and another meeting with the aspirants. He clearly had preconceived plans about the Bayelsa APC governorship primary. “Third, Oshiomhole cannot really say anything about the primary election because he had left the venue at the time voting commenced. Oshiomhole set the process in motion for voting to commence before he excused himself on the grounds that he was going to eat, and he mandated other members of the committee to carry on without him. “The world needs to know that the Bayelsa State Electoral Committee is made up of seven members, and of the seven only Oshiomhole left. The other six remained, conducted the primary and declared Sylva winner of the exercise. “Fourth, it bothers on pettiness for Governor Oshiomhole to quote me as antagonist to new entrants to our party. Every discussion I had with the governor was public. “The only private conversation I had with him was when he walked up to me and asked me if I truly believed he was working against my interest. To that I answered ‘YES’. As a man of integrity (?) he even offered to step down as chairman. If he had stepped down would that have invalidated the primaries? We should refrain from exaggerating our worth and integrity. Let other good people judge our character.” “After all, I was the one that received all new entrants. Oshiomhole was invited and he did not come. Fifth, Oshiomhole came to Yenagoa with a clear agenda, which was to get me out of the race at all cost. We are aware that he had been lobbying at the centre to get me out of the race in order to pave the way for one of the aspirants. Indeed, one of the aspirants had boasted openly that Oshiomhole would cancel the primary once he arrived, shortly before his arrival. “Oshiomhole should not tell lies, if I was not there, contrary to his insinuation that I rented thugs to manhandle him, the crowd would have manhandled him. I personally accompanied Oshiomhole to the gate when he was going to eat. “Seventh, if Oshiomhole has anything personal against me, let him tell the world. We are shocked that the man who claims to be morally upright with a strong ethical orientation would land in Yenagoa for an exercise in which he ought to be an impartial arbiter with a helicopter provided by a friend of one of the aspirants.” |
President Franklin Roosevelt of the United States inherited a сomparatively similar economic atmosphere with that of President Muhammadu Buhari during the second rescue mission. When Roosevelt assumed office on March 4, 1933, the American economy was in a sorry state. A quarter of the workforce was jobless, 250,000 families defaulted on their mortgages, and 1.2 million Americans were homeless. As for the financial sector, 9000 banks holding the savings of 27 million families failed; inflation accounted for 25%-30%. You can probably imagine the level of financial collapse in the US that historians termed the Great Depression. President Buhari inherited a fairly better economy than his American counterpart. According to the World Bank records, at the end of 2014 the Nigerian economy experienced sustainable growth averaging 7%, with poverty rate accounting for 60% of the population and a rebased GDP figure of $509 billion. The data from the CBN showed that the new government met a foreign exchange reserve of $36.1 billion, excess crude reserve of $2.45 billion and unemployment rate of 24%. Stock market capitalization stood at N11.477 trillion. It is very safe to posit that President Buhari inherited these economic indices with a pledge of improving them. However, as a result of Buhari’s 100 days in office, market capitalization fell by N10.108 trillion as of September 3, 2015, foreign investments dropped by N309 billion, and unemployment rate rose by 8.2%. In the 2015 report the National Bureau of Statistics noted that 19.6 million Nigerians are unemployed – this is, actually, more than the population of most African countries. The reasons for such poor economic outcomes are mostly engineered by the economic players’ considerations in relation to the economic agenda President Buhari is going to pursue. One hundred days have passed, however, the investors, both local and foreign, are still guessing and waiting, and the Nigerian economy is stagnant – all because Buhari is not able to find saints among 170 million Nigerians to appoint ministers. It looks a if he is the only honest Nigerian left, as he has made the international community believe. Roosevelt vs. Buhari The difference between Roosevelt and Buhari is that Roosevelt knew what was at stake – for Buhari seems not to. A few days after being sworn in, Roosevelt summoned a special session of the Congress, and made the following declaration: “I shall ask the Congress for the one remaining instrument to meet the crisis – a broad Executive power to wage a war against the emergency, as great as the power that would be given to me if we were in fact invaded by a foreign foe”. Within the first 100 days in office, President Roosevelt pushed 15 major bills through the Congress, which were meant to reshape every aspect of the economy, from banking and capital market to mortgage system, manufacturing and agriculture. Most of those bills are still in place in the US – Roosevelt laid a solid foundation for the modern American economy. As for Nigeria, after 100 days the National Assembly is in disarray going from one recess into another, Buhari is threatening the PDP members with probe, and civil servants, who are even more corrupt than politicians, are becoming liaison officers to the president. Nigerians are ignorantly recording all Jonathan’s achievements as what Buhari has achieved within 100 days, because they love his personality. Undoubtedly, President Buhari has stabilized power and petroleum supply, however, the trick behind these changes is that the economic saboteurs are still watching and studying the present government. if President Buhari continues with his “I will”, “I shall”, “the PDP did not do this or that”, the enemies of our development will commence their unpatriotic business. Tide of history When “Oga Jona” was still in the good books of Nigerians, precisely during his first 100 days in office, Nigerians used to excuse most of his flaws saying: “Jonathan means good for this country”. However, Jonathan failed to create jobs, end insurgency in the north-east and eliminate corruption in the oil sector. Moreover, good intentions didn’t secure him a return ticket to Aso Rock. Today Nigerians lay Buhari’s shortcomings on the altar of good personality. Personality, just like good intentions, is an abstract concept. One hundred days without government policy framework and ministers, one hundred days of obvious ethnic bias in the appointments will soon erode Buhari’s good personality. Change cannot be the government agenda, because change is something ambiguous with two extreme poles – negative and positive. Government policy is different from party policy. The much criticized Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state made the judiciary functional, and paid salary arrears accumulated by the previous government. He was able to itemize what the previous administration stole from the treasury and the channels, through which money were leaking. He achieved this all within 100 days. One hundred days – not enough? No one is asking President Buhari to resurrect the dead infrastructure within 100 days. However, we claim that 100 days is enough for a serious government to show focus and direction. The electorate needs to know what economic path the government wishes to follow so as to give the economy a favourable perception, and boost investment and the stock market activity. The federal government should cease using the media to prosecute suspected corrupt officers of the previous government and shamelessly cancel the development projects that will benefit the regions having given Buhari 5% of votes. Buhari should start the real probe by bringing these cases to court. Based on the firm evidence, “Oga Jona” and his accomplices should be jailed and made to pay back whatever they looted. If President Buhari fails to adhere to the wishes of Nigerians, he will be surprised that those, who shouted “hosanna, hosanna” for him this year, will chorus “crucify him, crucify him” in 2019. Considering his age, I am sure Buhari is not going to rerun for presidency, but for the sake of his party, he should give the government a direction and act like a Nigerian president, not an ethnic lord. |
Surely, the saying which says “Let food be thy medicine”, knew beforehand the unknown great benefits of garlic, a specie in the onion genus, Allium. Aside being a taste enhancer for recipes, garlic, which has been around for quite a while is of unbelievable benefits. While some countries believe garlic can be used to ward off vampires and evil spirits, it has been classified among the world healthiest food. With a history of human use of over 7,000 years, garlic is native to central Asia, and has long been a staple in the Mediterranean region, as well as a frequent seasoning in Asia, Africa, and Europe. It was known to Ancient Egyptians, and has been used for both culinary and medicinal purposes. In fact this wonder food has more uses than you can think of, and some really interesting ones. 1 . Garlic has been used over the years to make evil spirits and vampires run away. It is said to be the flag-bearer of white magic in Europe. Central European legends describe garlic as a powerful ward against evil spirits and vampires. 2. The great smell of garlic has made Muslims to be advised against taking it before prayer time. This is because its smell is distracting. Quite a lot of Hindus do not eat it for a similar reason. For them it is a taboo because it increases carnal desires and destroys piousness. For same reason also, followers of Jainism and some sections of Buddhism completely run away from garlic. 3 . Fear of garlic is medically defined as Alliumphobia. 4. If you forgot to buy insecticides, burning garlic with camphor keeps away mosquitoes, insects and flies. Crushed garlic mixed with water is a green alternative to insecticides. 5. Garlic has been said to be one of the world healthiest foods, no wonder it contains 17 amino acids. Amino acids are essential to nearly every bodily function, and make up 75% of the human body. 6. Garlic not just is good for heart as it brings down cholesterol levels. It also fights cough and cold and is a pro-biotic and keeps the gut healthy. 7. To remove the odour of garlic from hands, rub them on a stainless steel object under cold water. |

COALITION OF KOGI WEST AND CENTRAL PROGRESSIVES OUR CASE: WHY 2015 POWER SHIFT (some quarters say “POWER CHANGE”) PROJECT IMMINENT AFTER 24 (TWENTY FOUR) YEARS OF ETHNIC DOMINANCE AND RUINE? The power shift project is a collective majority right of well-meaning people of Kogi State who are presently under a repressive political and economic hostage. Consequently, the people of Kogi State from the Central and Western Senatorial Zones are set to let themselves loosed from the claws of the political monsters. The brief historical profile of Kogi State came by way of Kabba Province in Northern Region with major tribes which includes Igbira, Okun,Igala, Bassa, Oworo and Nupe. The political profile came by way of Kabba province with three major divisions i.e. Igbira, Kabba and Igala Division. However, Igbira and Kabba was part of Kwara State while Igala in Benue until Kogi State was created in 1991 at the instance of Kabba (Western Senatorial District) and Igbira (Central Senatorial District with the consideration and co-option of Igala (Eastern Senatorial District) from Benue State. The State had 16 LGA’s and later 21 LGA’s i.e. Kogi East – 9LGAs, Kogi West 7 LGAs and Kogi Central-5 LGAs. During the formation of the government the State, the breakdown of political units and the magnanimity of the Central and Western Senatorial zones decided to zone the governorship position to their perceived brothers from Kogi East (Igalas) for intending general progress with the arrangement to rotate the power among the three Senatorial Districts. But the Eastern senatorial District has failed to appreciate the peaceful accord; they have since the creation of the State from 1991 held and used the political power of the State to marginalize, oppress and with all efforts to reduce the other tribes to the point of irrelevance which the people has now resolved to pull themselves out of being extinct, politically, economically and generational succession come 2015. It is worthy to note that other ethnic groups in Kogi State include Ebira Mozum, Ebira, Igu, Ogori-Magongo, Oworo, etc. The datas presented below generates volumes of questions which begs for an answer and solutions. A popular Indian god, Brahma is commonly
depicted as a man with four arms. India now has
a human symbol of its god --a baby born with
four arms and four legs.
This boy was born with four arms and four legs.
The boy has been named 'god-boy', and the
hospital he was born in, turned into a pilgrimage
ground as people are travelling from across the
region to the city in West Bengal State to get a
glimpse of the child.
Scientifically, the baby boy's extra limbs is a birth
defect, the remains of an underdeveloped co-
joined twin. However, the family are overjoyed at
their new addition and see the baby boy as the
son Hindu God Brahma, who is depicted with
eight limbs.
"When he first came out we couldn't believe it," a
relative told local TV. "The nurses said he was
badly deformed but I could see that this was a
sign from God. In fact, this is a miracle, its God's
baby. Indian god's have extra limbs just like
this."
Chukka Rao, 67, from a neighbouring village, said
"When we first heard about God Boy we were
slightly skeptical. But we came to see because we
were intrigued by all the news we were hearing
from friends and others. When we eventually saw
a picture of the child it was a wonder."
With the village being overrun by curious believers
from across the region, local police say they are
having trouble controlling them. A police
spokesman said, "This is a freak baby and it is
tragic, there is nothing godly about him at all. But
the crowds are going berserk and clamouring to
see the child. Hundreds are crying in the streets,
hundreds of others are praying and setting up
camp here. Some are even panicking and believe
this is a sign of the end of the world. I have never
seen anything like this in my whole career."
The child's family member added, "It is
understandable that there is a lot of excitement
about this. It is only natural that people want to
see the god-baby."

President Muhammadu Buhari on July 22, Wednesday at the National Democratic Institute in Washington DC, has accepted that he is not too confident about his memory. President Buhari Nigerian leader was speaking when he responded to questions asked by members of the Civil society audience during the session provided by the United States Institute of Peace. READ ALSO: Buhari Makes A Blunder While Talking About The APC The president said: “I am not too confident about my memory. Let me answer one question at a time.” Buhari had only yesterday blundered the full meaning of his ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the All Nigeria People’s Congress a repeated mistake by the 72 year old leader of the nation that continues to call for concerns from Nigerians. He had before now refereed to Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, as the President of West African Germany which brings to question the memory of the president and how often his knowledge to comprehend fully on issues can affect his ability to deliver on his promises. READ ALSO: President Buhari Leaves USA At the question and answer event tagged “A Conversation with President Muhammadu Buhari ”, the Nigerian President reaffirmed an earlier statement made during his inaugural speech where he stated, “Remember I said I belong to nobody I belong to everybody. I will work for all the constituencies.” http://www.naij.com/495620-buhari-cracks-jokes-on-his-own-memory.html |
Buhari is visiting Washington DC, the US Capital for his meeting with American President Barack Obama this week Monday with an announced 32-man delegation as well as unannounced aides numbering an average of 10 that would be accompanying Governors, Ex- Governors, State House Officials and Businessmen. This will bring the total of Nigerians on the trip with the President to 229, the largest in history, with the total cost of N2.2billion. Presidency had earlier announced that those expected to join the President on the visit include Governors Kasim Shettima(Borno) , Rochas Okorocha(Imo) , Adams Oshiomhole(Edo) , Tanko Al-Makura(Nasarawa) and Abiola Ajimobi(Oyo) . The large delegation will also have former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Buhari’s running mate, Pastor Tunde Bakare and many more. Apart from the number about 10 government officials have already left for the United States in what they claimed is preparing grounds for the visit. http://www.heynaija.com/extravagant-president-muhammadu-buhari-us-visit-229-people-cost-n2-2billion/ |

FIFA's Blatter Interrupted at Start of News Conference A press conference called to give details of the Feb. 26 meeting to elect a replacement to Joseph “Sepp” Blatter was interrupted by an English comedian throwing money around the dias. Blatter, who took over in 1998, has promised to step down by early next year. The group’s board is meeting today to discuss the election and changes that may prevent some practices that the U.S. Justice Department alleges were part of two decades of “rampant” corruption. The intruder, Simon Brodkin, mentioned giving FIFA money to award the 2026 World Cup to North Korea. Brodkin has been detained for previous pranks, including getting through security in an attempt to board the England national team’s airplane to the last World Cup. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-07-20/fifa-media-conference-delayed-by-comedian-interrupting-blatter |
